In the last episode, we'll be concluding the psychology and sociology part of the MCAT. We went over the social theories through a medical lens, population demographics and dynamics and then went through vocab involving culture, urbanization and more. I ended the podcast with a conversation on social inequality (although I branched over into financial inequality and cultural inequality as well) and lastly talked about how we measure things in psychology: the different types of tests, analysis methods, etc. It was a pleasure making this podcast for you guys and if you need any more help, feel free to reach out at groseriesmcat@gmail.com!
In this episode, we'll talk about a ton of different social concepts in psychology and throw in a decent amount of vocab as we do it. Gonna start off with things like attachment, aggression, and altruism and shift into social interactions and the concepts regarding that. We went over some sociology concepts with Learning Objective 9 and concluded talking about some influential psychological theories: functionalism, symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, feminist theory, and social constructionism.
Amid the COVID-19 craziness (dang I should've put the mass hysteria/riot segment in this episode not the last), we'll be discussing society. We'll talk all about the theories of development and the psychologists associated, important vocab about self-identity and then we'll conclude with social perception, prejudice, and bias.
In this episode, we'll talk about socialization and all the vocab words you need to know that fall under that category. Along with that, I'll get into learning but really focus on classical conditioning and operant conditioning. I'll break down how persuasion works, the different models and theories regarding it. Lastly I’ll dive into control, both self control and personal control. This episode is very sociology heavy but very manageable. Hope you enjoy the episode!
In this episode, we talk about personality, including the theories about personality and the psychologists associated. After that, we get into the whole list of mental disorders, but we focus on 4 interesting ones: schizophrenia, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Lastly, we get into conformity, obedience, compliance and more. I’ll talk about how Asch, Milgram, and Zimbardo are linked to conformity and obedience. Also, I decided on this episode I’d try to do a “high yield summary” at the end to talk about the most important topics, if you guys like that I’ll stick with it.
In this episode, we get super involved with the nervous system, especially the central nervous system. I'll also talk about fertilization and the biology aspect of how we become who we are. After all that physiological psychology, we'll conclude with behaviors, attitudes and various psychological theories explaining why we are who we are.
In this episode, we'll go over a lot of terms and jump all over the place. Not much physiology in this episode, it's more about theories and specific psychologists. We'll talk about attention, memory, and emotions especially in regards to development throughout life.
This episode will go over a wide range of subjects, we'll get more involved in the process of sound, somatosensation, taste, and smell. Then we'll delve into sleep and all the processes and theories of sleeping and dreaming. Lastly, we'll talk about drugs, including the different types and reward pathways. Lots of content as usual!
In this episode, we'll be discussing various parts of sensory processing such as vision, sound and more. We'll also break down the physiology of the vestibular system and the eye, layer by layer.
This episode is just a quick summary of my reasoning for doing this podcast and what I plan to cover.
