Omar discusses with the Jesus Field Youth Group that though our society is generally accepting of contracts, lawsuits, retaliation, and a general disdain for people who are different, that Jesus called us to be counter-cultural and be honest, turn the other cheek, and love our enemies.

Omar speaks to the Jesus Field Youth Group about how everyone has the same amount of faith, but that not everyone puts their faith in God. Some put their faith in material wealth, 401Ks, and the stock market while others put their faith in their country, military, or sports team. Regardless of where we "say" we put our faith, our actions prove what we truly believe as our beliefs are the foundation of our lives.

Omar speaks to the Jesus Field Youth Group about "worry". Far too often we worry about things that are out of our control... When a person has great faith, there is no longer room for worry. #GodAlwaysProvides

Omar & Rockmore discuss how their views, philosophies, and theologies evolve as their perspectives change and their understanding increases. Not only do they conclude that this is ok, but that it is expected as "knowing and understanding everything" is an unrealistic expectation. Here's to being comfortable with "it depends".

Rockmore and Omar speak with local St. Pete Comedian Allen Canning about growing up in Ohio, living through his parent's divorce, moving to Florida, what it was like to deal with alcoholism as a teen, and what it was like to get sober. Through his sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek comedy, Allen is able to speak about difficult situations all while maintaining hope for the future. Show Notes: Here are a couple of short clips from Allen's regular stand-up routine: Allen Canning Comedy on YouTube
Rockmore and Omar discuss strategies on how to turn a toxic work environment into a positive work environment... From what defines a great boss to how everyone is in the customer service business. We also do a little catching up on what's good and what media we're consuming. Here are a couple of reference links from our discussions: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho Unapologetic by Francis Spufford The Rockville LP by O.A.R. ("We'll Pick Up Where We Left Off")
Omar speaks with Spencer Boulter (President, 6:8 Ministries) on what it was like for him to grow up in Lake City, Florida, have his parents' divorce, get in trouble as a youth, and then join the Army Special Forces. The conversation includes how he met Molly (his wife), started a family, and then moved them all to the barrios of Costa Rica to start a ministry. Talk about an awesome Journey!
We talk to Blake Clark (Lead Pastor, Radius Church) about what it was like to grow up in the Bible Belt, be 'called by God', serve as a Youth Pastor at a startup church and an affluent church, and then quit to work 90-hours / week in guard shack at the top of a mountain in West Virginia. We also discuss what he has learned in the first year after starting Radius Church. This episode runs a bit long, but there was no way I was going to cut Blake's story short - Life is a Journey and sometimes it just doesn't fit into a 60-minute interview. Not to worry because our one listener (Bonnie) doesn't mind. Questions? If you have a follow up / clarification question about anything on the show, or even about something completely off topic, send us an email (questions@journey-notes.com) and we'll do our best to answer your question on our next show! Show Notes Radius Church - http://radchurch.com/
This could be called the "hot drama" episode, but that's not how we roll... In this episode, we discuss the controversial topics of "Is America the greatest country?", Supreme Court decisions on Obamacare, Same-Sex Marriage, Donald Trumps Immigration Policy, the Confederate Flag, and Net Neutrality! Apparently, no topic is off limits :)
We continue to catch up on the past 16 months... This time, Rockmore interviews Omar about moving across the country, starting a new job, finding a new church home, having a 2nd child, volunteering at a youth group and more. Show Notes Shout Outs to the following: Bobby Wood [Redemption Church] Brock Johnson [Buena Vista Sports Academy] Spencer Boulter [6:8 Ministries] Bea Espinoza [Corazon Youth Group] Marcus Trujillo [Jesus Field Youth Group]
After a 16-month hiatus, Journey Notes is back with Season Two! In this episode, Omar interviews Rockmore about what has been going on in his life over the past 16-months. Dan & Crystal Kemp - At just 24 years old, Dan & Crystal are raising three young boys, working full time, going to school full time, and doing everything they can to do God's will in their lives. In this episode, we spoke with Dan & Crystal about their story, about being unconventional and going against the normal protocol of life, how they manage their crazy schedule, the definition of passion, finding peace, raising kids, and thinking about where their journey might be leading them (maybe Africa as missionaries?). Overall, it is a bit overwhelming to think about all the responsibilities that this young couple is managing, and yet they are still focused on the betterment of the world around them. Count me as inspired. Here is the MLK quote we used: "The trouble isn't so much that we don't know enough, but it's as if we aren't good enough. The trouble isn't so much that our scientific genius lags behind, but our moral genius lags behind. (Well) The great problem facing modern man is that, that the means by which we live (Help him God) have outdistanced the spiritual ends for which we live. (That's right) So we find ourselves caught in a messed-up world. (Well) The problem is with man himself and man's soul. We haven't learned how to be just and honest and kind and true and loving. And that is the basis of our problem. The real problem is that through our scientific genius we've made of the world a neighborhood, but through our moral and spiritual genius we've failed to make of it a brotherhood." Update: After the show, I came up with my official definition of passion: Passion is a desire so intense, that if unfulfilled, will prevent us from achieving our greatest purposes in life.
In this episode, we dug a little deeper into Rockmore's Subplot and discussed the importance about finding your passion. We talked about how Omar broke the news to his students that he was leaving through a "Resignation Lecture", the benefits of recording important life events (like Steve's Baptism), the different ways to explore new (crazy) ideas, and we gave a preview of our upcoming Kickstarter project.
A podcast about our journeys through life, the characters who inspire us, the ideas that empower us, and the positives with which we engage. Season 01, Episode 01 Show Notes: As this was our first ever podcast, we discussed the format of the show, Rockmore explained how this whole idea came about, and we each took turns introducing each other (which was a bit of a love-fest, gross!). We then moved on to the subjects of goal setting using awesome tools like the Passion Planner and My Subplot. Lastly, Omar announced his big move and that led us to talking about how we make big life decisions.
