In this episode, we take a look at 5 mistakes youth pastors often make when they are faced with the reality that their youth group is shrinking in size. To be clear, the size of your youth group doesn't automatically equal effectiveness, and not every youth ministry is destined for thousands of attendees. However, when you sense momentum has disappeared or attendance is declining, it requires thoughtful investigation rather than hasty reactions. In this strategic episode, we take a look at the challenging reality of student ministry stagnation and offer practical tips for reversing the course.=========We love hearing from you all and we do our best to provide powerful and insightful youth ministry content on a weekly basis to be that coach and mentor you may not have, but desperately need.If you have an episode idea, please E-Mail us at MinistryCoachPodcast@gmail.com!If you have it on your heart to support this ministry, please consider going to our Patreon page at: www.patreon.com/ministrycoach=========You may also enjoy these episodes:(#235) SPORTS vs. YOUTH GROUP: 5 Ways to Win the Battle of Priorities!(#240) Do Numbers Matter? "...As far as East is from West..." (Psalm 103:12) That's how far God separates our sins from us. He gives us MERCY when we deserve punishment. He Gives us GRACE when we deserve to be chewed up and left in our misery... or worse. Billy's (one of my former youth students) story is a humbling one for a senior in high school. I hope his story helps you to see one of your young teenage students the way God sees them. God has personally shown me plenty of MERCY and GRACE that I do not deserve. I hope as you listen in to this episode that you see how God is speaking through you. _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? Rainy days can be challenging, but it's all in how we look at them. In this episode, I refer to Elijah praying 3 times, but instead he prayed 7 times in 1 Kings 18:43-46. Often we will pray once or twice for something and decide that God is not going to do what we asking. Jim Halstead (who has 2 interviews on this podcast), prayed for me and my ministry every week for more than 10 years. It kept our student ministry on task and gaining spiritual ground in our church and community. It was almost 20 years before I knew about that and those prayers, but it made spiritual sense. There was a spiritual rainfall in our student ministry for almost 3 decades and Jim had something to do with that awakening in our community through our student ministry. Enjoy The Rain! God's Blessing over a dry and burned up land. The rain is on its way! Get out there and plant the seeds of faith before it comes, so you will be ready for the rain. _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? Invite Your Enemies by Lucas Bane. April 27, 2025. BIG IDEA: We have spent the year talking about inviting your friends and the cause circle, what if I told you are also called to pray, care for, and share the gospel with your enemies. How do you treat people you don't like? The people you have beef with. The ones who spread rumors about you or have betrayed you. I promise you that it matters to God how you treat them. We invite our friends because we love them and want them to know Christ. Jesus calls us to extend his love and gospel to those that we call enemies, so that they can go from enemies to brothers/sisters in Christ. He calls us to invite our enemies. EDGE Student Ministries.

You have a life license to Create! God created in advance good works for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). We are limited by our desire and trust that God is for us, not against us. The passion inside you can be nurtured or it can be crushed. You must decide! I spoke at a funeral for a 75 year old relative a few weeks ago. Then this week I heard a podcast about a famous rock star who at 75 is doing more for music and business than he has ever done. Check outGrowYourYouthMinistry.com *** As a youth pastor, do you ever feel like you are becoming just a program director? This question haunted me early in youth ministry, especially as our youth group grew. What I discovered transformed our approach—program isn't the goal, but rather the vehicle that creates community, which in turn facilitates genuine discipleship and Christ-centered transformation. In this episode, we unpack five practical strategies that have revolutionized our ministry's impact. Youth ministry should never be measured by attendance numbers or entertainment value. Success is creating communities where students find belonging and discipleship that sustains their faith journey long after graduation.=========
Eat 10,000 Calories... 365 Days A Year! That's Right... You read the title correctly. But there is always an "IF" thrown somewhere in there... One of those guys said by the time the competition for Mr. Universe rolled around, we were exhausted from eating. What IF we devoured the word of God and prayed 365 Days a year like we were preparing for the Olympics? What IF we told people about the good news of Jesus Christ with the enthusiasm of a trained Olympian Athlete? How would it look if we believed that God had made us, the students, volunteers, staff, our friends and family to do great things, bigger than we ever believed that we were capable of? Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father" - John 14:12 What IF? _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? Do you know what to do with LPa and ApoB?Listen in this week as host Karli Burridge speaks with Josh Wageman, author of the newly released book titled: "The Home Security System and the Lipid Neighborhood: Un-Complicating Cholesterol and Cardiovascular Disease"It sounds like the start of a bad joke…or perhaps a confusingly awesome dream. A Physical Therapist, ex-collegiate track athlete, Ivy league grad, Youth Pastor, and some dude with a PhD start having a conversation about cholesterol. And then you realize all those guys are THE SAME GUY, and that guy takes you on a whimsical pilgrimage that results in YOU having a framework for NOT having heart attacks, strokes, and dementia. Employing a smorgasbord of metaphors, pictures, and catchphrases, The Home Security System and the Lipid Neighborhood serves as a valuable reference for clinicians and non-clinicians alike, bringing refreshing relatability to complex biochemical topics. Through a lipid-lens, you'll learn, laugh, and love your way through its pages…and in the end, you'll undoubtedly add “life to your years!”Available at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DR33FPZF?ref_=pe_93986420_775043100On X: https://x.com/joshjwagemanInstagram Tag is @wagemanjosh and you're welcome to find Josh on LinkedIn and FacebookSupport the showThe Gaining Health Podcast will release a new episode monthly, every second or third Wednesday of the month.
