Hosts Mike & Dave discuss the Canadian sci-fi show, Continuum, airing on Showcase and Syfy. Also included are interviews with several actors and crew members involved with the show.
We were honored and grateful to have Simon Barry take the time to get together with us and a large turnout of Continuum fans in a live chat on Monday, October 19 on Blab. Simon answered a ton of fan questions and told us a little bit more about his upcoming projects with RDF, Inc., his new production company.
No one could have predicted this ending, yet not only is it heartbreakingly perfect, it almost seems obvious when you think back on it all. What an incredible conclusion to this unparalleled series! We're sad to see it end, but everyone had their moment, told Kiera what she meant to them, and said their goodbyes.
Chaos reigns in The Desperate Hours! Besides some rip-roaring action and another shocking death, this Continuum episode delivers great character moments of transition as each person has to decide what's really important to them. Will Alec be able to use the portal to send Kiera to the future, or is their plan now shot to hell?
Hugely important time travel questions are finally answered in Zero Hour, and there's no turning back now! Will Kiera be able to use the Time Marines' portal to get back to her time, or will they have to destroy it before an invading force can arrive? I have the feeling I know which option Kellog would pick!
We had so much listener feedback, we had to publish a bonus podcast, but we didn't want to just shuffle it off to one side. So we invited the writers of the latest Continuum episode (Power Hour), Todd Ireland and Jeremy Smith, to join us in listening to fan theories. Not that they could confirm or deny much, but they did share some nice tidbits such as where the Theseus Manifesto came from and a bookend possibility for the season (or is it series?).
Several characters are having to embrace their destinies in Power Hour, and some relationships are suffering because of it. But what is it that Marcellus and his gang are really building? Should Kiera have let Garza blow it up? Would that have changed the tragic end to the battle?
Emily's rescue takes center stage as Kiera, Kellog, and even Liber8 jockey for position. What will her departure mean for Alec and his motley crew? Can Brad and Kiera really trust each other any more? And what is with all of the items Marcellus wants Kellog to buy?
At long last, Continuum has returned, and we're back to discuss the final episodes, starting with Lost Hours. Things pick up where they left off, and the "time marines" are in full force. What will Kellog do now that he's in charge of Piron, and how will Alec and his motley crew overcome his dominance of the future?
The season finale, Last Minute, did NOT disappoint! The team-up we've all been waiting for; a conclusion to the Alec vs. Alec conflict; and a final determination to whether they've changed things... or is it? Plenty of questions still abound, and we're here to discuss them all!
Things certainly have changed for everyone in the series, but no one can say The Dying Minutes didn't give us a few answers even as it posed new ones and took treasured characters away. Some of our questions this week: Who is the Traveler? What are Curtis and Kellog up to? What will Kiera, Alec, and Carlos do now?
It should be no surprise to anyone that our discussion is longer this week - 3 Minutes to Midnight was a real mind bender! So many secrets revealed and questions answered that we have to give them all their due. Hopefully, we can help a few of you solidify your theories and further understanding of the time travel implications, but there's one question we can't help you with: WHAT NOW?
As we expected, Revolutions Per Minute finds Kiera starting to play into the hands of Liber8 for what she perceives to be the greater good. Alec also appears to believe he's acting in everyone's best interests as well, but perhaps they both will suffer unforeseen consequences. The involvement of Kellog and Julian is already a huge wild card, and the Freelancers and perhaps even John Doe will become adversaries soon.
Internet outages and family illnesses delayed our podcast this week, but we managed to cobble together a patchwork of a discussion for Minute of Silence, which will no doubt go down in the annals as the episode that introduced Ryan Robbins' John Doe character. Will this be a romantic interest for our hero? Between Kellog's new strategy and Alec's increasingly abhorrent behavior, the remaining episodes should have some interesting things in store.
If you've enjoyed the webisodes this season as much as we have, whether through the Showcase website or other means, then you absolutely MUST listen to this great interview with the writer of the extra scenes, Todd Ireland. Not only does he give an in-depth description of what it takes to bring a script to the screen, he also talks about interacting with fans on social media as the man behind the ContinuumSeries Twitter and Facebook accounts. And as a special incentive, we have audio commentary from Luvia Petersen, Jennifer Spence, Omari Newton, Michelle Harrison, and Jonathan Walker, plus special message from Simon Barry. WARNING: Spoilers for episode 308!
Kiera's point of view, as promised, is starting to turn, but how will her awakening be affected by the tragic loss in this episode? Speculation is running rampant in So Do Our Minutes Hasten as to the missions of Curtis, Kellog, and even Alec with his new technology.
It's what you've all been waiting for! Waning Minute is a flashback episode that gives us a flavor of the future like never before. Kiera's awakening may be the most pivotal moment of the series, and we're so excited to see what happens next. As you might imagine, our episode discussion ran quite long this week!
Now that the central mystery of who killed Kiera is presumably solved, let's move onto the next big question: Who is behind the door? Wasted Minute is by far the most Liber8-sympathetic episode yet of Continuum, and it's hard not to agree with the now desk-bound Carlos about them finally doing some good. But with the battle of Alec vs. Alec coming to a close in an unexpected way, we are wondering if Kiera made the right choice.
We'll definitely be seeing more of Michelle Harrison as Firing Point anchor, Diana Bolton, on future episodes of Continuum, so we figured why not find out more about this wonderful actor who has joined the cast in season 3? Did you know her husband was also on the show in episode 303? Also find out where you may have seen her before and what other projects, including coaching and singing, Michelle is involved with in this interview edition of our podcast.
Liber8 continues their plan to take down the corporations with their own dirty little secrets as Dillon and Travis take to the air waves in 30 Minutes to Air, a commentary on the role of the media in the selling out of everyone's personal freedoms. The Alecs further differentiate themselves, Carlos gets a break from his funk, and Betty uses her position as a mole to save lives. But a new mole is set to be placed within Liber8...
Are we witnessing the rise of a more media savvy Julian? Will the downward descent of Carlos and Betty stop? Which Alec should we be rooting for? These questions and more are explored this week as we discuss Minute Changes.
A re-imagining of Lucas' mind control technology expertise has Liber8 conducting a whole new battle strategy against some of the corporations that rule the future as the Corporate Congress in Minute To Win It. What an appropriate time for Alec to take over the reins at Piron! Deepening feelings of conflict for Kiera, Carlos, and Emily also take center stage.
In this episode entitled Minute Man, we ask which Alec can Kiera trust? Are we witnessing the rise of Kellog and the resurgence of Liber8? Now that Alec has successfully prevented Emily from being killed, we have a lot questions to answer.
Season 3 is off to a roaring start with this initial episode, Minute by Minute, answering a lot of our questions while tantalizing us with new ones. We have to determine what we think the new direction will be for many of our characters, most notably Alec, Kiera, and Kellog. Garza and Emily also take a new path, but what about Liber8? Join us as we discuss the ins and outs of the season premiere, and we're back with our Weekly Nitpicks and Predictions, too! Plus, play our Continuum Closeup game, carried over from the season 2 rewatch.
We've all enjoyed Travis Verta on Continuum, but Roger Cross is also beloved by fans of Arrow, Motive, 24, and a whole slew of other shows, Canadian and American. Roger shares some great stories in this interview including one time he almost died early in his career and why his character in Arrow didn't show up much. What an honor to speak with this veteran actor! Will he be back for season 3 of Continuum? We sure hope so!
We were able to catch Simon Barry in the calm before the storm of filming for Continuum Season 3, and what an honor and privilege it was to get a peek behind the curtain! Simon instills the cast, crew, and fans of Continuum with an amazing amount of confidence in his knowledge of the content and abilities behind the camera, especially for a first-time showrunner. Join us in discovering who Simon's influences are and how he feels about social media's impact among other things in this, one of our best interviews yet!
Who doesn't love Clayton the coroner on Continuum? He's always eating something while briefing the detectives, and he even seems a little suspicious of Kiera when her tech trumps his forensic findings, which makes him a great comic foil. Adam Greydon Reid is the actor behind this comic relief character, and he shared with us his story of the evolution of his character and his career. If you haven't seen his character, Bruno Delacourt, on Sanctuary, by the way, do yourself a favor and check it out!
With Showcase's social media campaign centering around Betty to determine the ending of Season 2, was there an alternate scene filmed? Find out in this interview with Continuum actor, Jennifer Spence, where we also talk about Stargate Universe, Down River, and how Carlos and Betty should totally do it. A very fun chat with a great actress - we're honored she joined us!
The season finale could spawn months of discussion, and it's a good thing since the long hiatus awaits us! Besides this top-notch episode, Mike & Dave discuss new time travel revelations, freelancer motivations, and what might happen next.
It's all about the time travel device, and everyone wants it: Kiera, Alec, Escher, the freelancers. Do you think Jason is really Alec's father? Mike & Dave discuss this masterfully written episode artfully directed by Amanda Tapping.
We knew ARC could be turned to dark purposes by future Alec, but who knew it could be abused in our own time? Dillon's extremism becomes scary, Kellog meets his competition, and the Terry's Chocolate Orange is complete once again! Dave has a whopper of a crackpot theory to share this week, but so do some of our listeners.
Escher makes a move, Julian gathers power, and Garza gets grabbed... twice! For some reason, this episode sparked tons of branching and circular timeline theories from us and our listening audience, which is why this podcast is a tad longer. Once you get going on time travel, it's hard to stop!
It was tough to wrap our heads around this one - so many conflicting character traits to deal with! Follow us down the dark path as we discuss the new motivations of Kiera, Dillon, Julian, and even the suddenly mysterious Lucas!
This one's been in the works for awhile, but I'm glad we waited since Emily's been kicking ass in recent episodes - literally! We talked to Magda Apanowicz about her role on Continuum and her experience as an actor in other genre shows like Caprica and Kyle XY.
This Garza-centric episode rocks on many levels: Alec learns to deal with his possible future through the revealing (in more ways than one) of Garza's hidden talents and secret mission. We still have a lot of questions about the body-snatching - join us as we discuss the increasingly intricate relationships, especially with newer characters Emily, Jason, and Escher. BONUS: Luvia Petersen chats with us mid-podcast! You won't want to miss her speculations about Garza!
The aftermath of Kiera's revelations to Carlos are explored in this episode, and Emily appears to have her "second degree" black belt in one of several amazing fight scenes. Mike and Dave explore the new relationships that emerge as well as coming up with their regular nitpicks and predictions.
We absolutely HAD to talk to Jonathan Lloyd Walker, who penned Continuum Season 2 Episode 6: Second Truths, to ask him about how on earth the idea to name this episode's serial killers after us came about. Jonathan also shared with us some facts about Escher's development, Alec's education, and the life of a writer on such a stellar show.
Some gigantic revelations in this episode of Continuum, including an eye-opener for Carlos and an "eye-opening" pair of serial killers not coincidentally named Mike and Dave! As Kiera starts to share her secrets, the number of people with their own agendas increases - this week Dillon, Emily, and the mysterious Mr. Escher to that list (although that last guy was already on it).
Get your tissues ready! Kiera has her most emotional scene yet in this episode which has Gardiner hunting for a mole inside the VPD. Mike and Dave have a lot of questions about where certain characters are headed, including Alec, Jason, Dillon, and, of course, Betty.
Both factions of Liber8 and Kiera race to find an interesting item that showed up at a yard sale, and an old friend makes an appearance. Gardiner makes himself generally annoying but shares with Kiera an important bit of information about Escher.
Everyone's having second thoughts! Alec's not too sure about his new business partnership, Sonya's doubting her latest takeover strategy, and many Vancouverites are experiencing "thoughts" a "second" time through the new street drug, flash. Mike & Dave discuss the possible paths for Liber8, what Alec's memories imply, and what on earth Jason is up to.
Factions everywhere! Loyalties shift and the action ramps up to a fever pitch worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster! Mike and Dave discuss the brilliant dialogue and the mounting questions posed by this top-notch episode. Nitpicks are minor, predictions are bold, and Life in 2077 reveals new possibilities.
Continuum heads down a darker but more satisfyingly deep path where relationships are strained and struggles have shifted. Mike and Dave jump back into the nitpicking, predicting (at long last, NEW predictions!), sci-fi news, life in 2077, fan shout-outs, weekly polls, and more!
Hopefully, we haven't seen the last of Kagame on Continuum nor of Tony Amendola, who played him so masterfully. Whether you've enjoyed his acting on Continuum, Once Upon a Time, Stargate SG-1, or anywhere else, this interview will give you a more intimate picture of Tony's illustrious acting career in sci-fi television and beyond. We were privileged and honored to speak with him for this podcast.
Inspector Dillon is a pretty nice boss; he let's Carlos get away with just about everything. Actor Brian Markinson, who plays Dillon, is equally nice, and he was gracious enough to join us for a Skype interview to discuss his penchant for guest roles in which he has a big bark.
Another Liber8 member agrees to chat with Mike and Dave! This time, sci-fi veteran Lexa Doig a.k.a. "The Queen of Hearts," Sonya Valentine, chatted with us about everything from her skills with techno-babble to her anxieties about Twitter.
Matthew Kellog is someone we'd all like to interrogate a bit, to be honest. You can really tell Stephen Lobo loves the role, and who wouldn't? He's not even the guy you love to hate; you just love him for being who he is.
Adam Stern and Artifex Studios not only did an amazing job with the visual effects for Continuum, they also did a fantastic job of interacting with the fans of the show on Twitter and Facebook. Whether it's Kiera's HUD, the CPS Flyers, or the unfolding gun, the VFX are as big a part of the show as any other element.
Mike and Dave were honored and privileged to speak with Omari Newton (Lucas Ingram) and Luvia Petersen (Jasmine Garza) about their characters, the show, and their other artistic endeavors. I can't think of anything else to write because I'm still amazed by the experience of talking to these two.
The season finale blows our minds even now, after we've seen it several times. Mike and Dave discuss the new characters introduced in this episode as well as the ins and outs of the time travel discussion between Kagame and Alec. Who knew what and when?
Julian goes down a dark path, Carlos and Alec meet, and Kellog takes on new dimensions in this penultimate episode of Season 1. Mike and Dave delve into the consequences of miscommunication and feelings of guilt that permeate the episode.
We were fortunate enough to persuade one of the Continuum writers, Jonathan Lloyd Walker, who also will appear in front of the camera in episodes 9 and 10, to speak with us during his long Vancouver commute.
