That's exactly what awaits at Spence Hot Springs, tucked away in New Mexico's breathtaking Jemez Mountains.Nestled within the Santa Fe National Forest just outside Jemez Springs, these thermal pools offer a perfect blend of accessibility and natural beauty. After a quick 0.4-mile hike across the Jemez River, you'll discover a series of warm, soothing pools cascading down the mountainside. The main upper pool accommodates about a dozen people, while smaller pools below create a natural multi-tiered spa experience. Perhaps most intriguing is the small cave adjacent to the main pool – a natural sauna where the warm water makes a perfect retreat from the mountain air.My midweek visit revealed the stark advantage of weekday exploration. With the place nearly to myself, I could fully appreciate the tranquil sounds of flowing water and the pristine mountain surroundings without distraction. The water temperature feels like a comfortable, warm bath, perfect for soaking tired muscles while taking in panoramic views of the national forest. While not scalding hot, the springs provide a gentler thermal experience that many find more enjoyable than intensely hot springs elsewhere.Visitors should note the limited parking (approximately eight spaces), potential weekend crowds, and the importance of responsible stewardship. Remember not to ingest the spring water, pack out all trash, and respect clothing requirements due to the springs' proximity to public areas. These simple courtesies help preserve this natural treasure for future explorers.Have you experienced New Mexico's hot springs? At the age of twenty-two, Dr Grace Spence Green's spine was broken at the fourth thoracic vertebra. One day, she was in hospital supporting patients, the next she was fighting for her own life. As Grace came to understand her new life as a wheelchair user, she also had to reconceptualise how she could be both a doctor and a patient, and her now deeply personal understanding of society's persistent ableism. She joins Dr Xand van Tulleken to share her journey, from how people's perception of her post-injury changed dramatically due to ableist mindsets, to how her own experience navigating the medical system as a patient helped her better understand her own patients, to how her patients have in turn helped her in surprising and deeply human reciprocity. Grace shares her own passion for disability advocacy, and calls for us all to change the narrative about disability and ableism. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

How would you encourage sustainable behaviour? You might assume logical messages work best. Stuff like “the average three-hour flight creates ~250–400 kg of CO₂”. But today's guest on Nudge has tested logical messages. And they don't work. Today on Nudge, Toby Park from the Behavioural Insights Team explains how renaming a meat-free dish doubled its sales. The Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) June Manufacturing PMI report showed a better-than-expected reading of 49.0, but the sector remains in contraction territory for the first time in nearly a decade. ISM's Susan Spence attributes the weakness to ongoing trade policy uncertainty, citing executives expressing concern. Despite a slight uptick in production, she notes that new orders and backlogs continue to contract. Spence emphasizes that companies need clarity around tariffs and trade policy to make informed decisions to invest in their businesses, rather than relying on short-term fixes.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. It's time for Collect No. 6! The LA cut—known for its raspy tone from top to bottom—has been one of our most requested calls for a while now. Well, we heard you, and the guys have delivered. This week, Drake Levey and Riley Bennett from our tuning room sit down with Spence to talk about the new call model, the BruteLA, dropping July 7th. It also makes up this month's batch of 40 Collect Calls.
Giving back to the community is one of the most importnat things for Rolling Thunder, wether it's hosting a quick lunch for the local guys or setting up a charity golf scramble, we enjoy it all! This week Spence is joined by Haley Duffey from the Carl Perkins Center here in Somerville. Years ago Spence called Haley and asked if he and some friends could donate leftover money from a golf scramble to the Carl Perkins Center, and ever since that day our golf scrambled has donated all proceeds to Haley in hopes of making a lasing impact on the lives of young children. Haley gives us insght on her job, and how they work with young children everyday to make life better!
