Navigating a Biased Second Opinion in Workers' Compensation ClaimsIf you're an injured worker whose workers' compensation claim has been accepted but now faces a second opinion examination that seems prejudiced or improperly conducted, you may be at risk of losing your benefits. This guide provides practical tips and remedies to protect your rights and ensure fair treatment when a second opinion physician's findings appear influenced by a claims examiner aiming for a predetermined outcome.Understanding the SituationWhen a second opinion physician determines that your injury is not work-related, the claims examiner may issue a Notice of Intent to Terminate Compensation. This notice typically gives you 30 days before your benefits end. The claims examiner often supports this decision with a Memorandum to the Director, outlining the reasons for denying your claim. This memorandum is a document that you never see but has a lot of prejudicial influence on the second opinion's determinations. There is a lot of these types of memorandums that hurt injured workers looking for fairness and help but instead receive a predetermined prejudiced outcome that is negotiated in these type of memorandum that often hurt the injured worker claimant. If the second opinion feels biased or the examination was not conducted appropriately, you have options to challenge the findings and protect your benefits. Acting quickly and strategically is critical.Steps to Take1. Request Key DocumentsTo build a strong case, you need access to the documents influencing the decision. Take these actions immediately:Obtain the Memorandum to the Director: Request a copy of this document from the claims examiner. It details why your claim is being denied and is essential for your treating physician to understand the basis of the denial.Request the Second Opinion Doctor's Report: Ask the claims examiner to send a copy of the second opinion physician's report to your treating physician. This ensures your doctor has the full context of the findings to address. for more information click on the transcript: Dr. Taylor's contact information is: fedcompconsultants@protonmail.com If you need a medical provider or assistance with an OWCP /  DOL claim in Tamps, Pensacola Florida. south Mississippi or Daphne Alabama    you can make an appointment to see Dr. Taylor, or Dr. Sullivan   at the clinic at  FWC Medical Centers. A Note from James:So Dr. Oz—television personality turned government official—this is such an interesting thing. He's going to be the new administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, CMS. He's going to be in charge of all Medicare and Medicaid. What does he know or think about these parts of our government?Medicare and Medicaid, combined with Social Security, make up the biggest part of government spending. So it'd be interesting to know what he thinks. On his show, he'd talk about everything from medicine to alternative medicine to other healing methods. I want to know how he's going to handle things in the government. This is a republishing of a past podcast I did with Dr. Oz, but it still describes his approach to medicine. And I think, as a citizen, this is useful. That's why I wanted to share it again. He's going to be working closely with RFK Jr. and Marty Makary (who's also been on this podcast and is now head of the FDA).So here's Dr. Oz.Episode Description:In this re-released conversation, James speaks with Dr. Mehmet Oz about his philosophy on medicine, self-care, and the critical role nutrition plays in overall well-being. As Dr. Oz steps into a major government role as the head of CMS, this episode offers valuable insight into the beliefs and strategies he may bring to one of the most powerful positions in U.S. healthcare.Together, they cover the power of second opinions, why most people misunderstand sugar, how gut bacteria drive health, and what it means to choose yourself when it comes to well-being. A fabulous re-cast episode from season 3! Sooner or later, we all spend some time in the hospital, so Greg and Ed riff on their myriad experiences in Bangkok hospitals over the years. But before we get into that, we should note - due to Thailand's strict defamation laws, some of the places we talk about will remain nameless. But with that out of the way, we can say that Thailand in general has pretty good medical care, and it is standard advice for travelers in neighboring countries to get over the border into Thailand if they have any medical problems. But, as Ed notes, Thailand does not have very good legal protections against medical malpractice: if a doctor makes a mistake, don't expect significant financial compensation from the Thai justice system. Greg and Ed then trade anecdotes about their own experiences in the Thai medical system, each with some good and bad things to say. Ed's life has been literally saved by competent doctors; Greg passed himself off as a Jedi in lieu of a real religion; both have been saved a ton of grief by getting a second opinion. Your mileage may vary, but both Greg and Ed agree, as a pure value proposition (i.e. what you get for the money), Thailand, though far from perfect, is a pretty good deal. Listen in for some great advice on how to maximize your chances of getting a good experience at a Bangkok hospital.

This is Real Talk, a podcast conversation where we're digging deep into breast cancer and the realities patients and survivors face every day. We're talking openly and honestly about just how difficult breast cancer can be, from being diagnosed to selecting the right treatment plan, to living day to day with metastatic breast cancer, and life after treatment ends. In today's episode, we're talking about getting a second opinion and why that's so important when selecting your treatment plan. Our guests today, Shilo Goodman and Eve Laidacker, both had to speak up and tell their doctors they didn't agree with their medical advice, and advocated for what they thought was best for themselves.

Second opinions decrease the risk of a wrong diagnosis by half. But too often, getting in to see an expert can be so challenging that patients forego this step and rely on the initial diagnosis. In this conversation, Frank McGillin, CEO of The Clinic by Cleveland Clinic talks about how they've simplified the process so that patients can quickly get second opinions by experts at the Cleveland Clinic – virtually. Key Takeaways: Do your homework. Be clear about what question you are asking. Make sure that you get answers to the issue or questions giving you the most angst. See an expert. Don't just see ANY doctor for a 2nd opinion. Select a doctor who is more experienced than the first in treating patients with YOUR condition. Be loyal to yourself..and your health…not your doctor. If you have more trust and better communication with the doctor offering a 2nd opinion…it is okay to switch your care. You owe it to yourself to get the best care for you. In this first episode of ‘Second Opinion' I give my alternative advice to someone asking for advice from another advice columnist. Here is the original advice. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/mar/12/my-wife-refuses-to-end-affair-she-enjoys-the-sex-what-should-i-do I chat about the background to newspaper advice columns, and why this one might be so short and what's happened to advice giving generally in mainstream media. Here's the paper I mentioned by Petra https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(15)00009-7/abstract and here's her website https://nostartoguideme.com/ This one being so short means that it may not be long enough to be useful (I'm certain that the advice giver would give excellent advice if she were given longer). It being so short also means that it relies on repeating a common sense discourse, or a should story, of how we should be navigating sex and relationships. Then I give my advice. There are different kinds of relationship models from strict monogamy all the way to a less hierarchical way of relating that doesn't just focus on the sexual and/or romantic kind. You could break up Why is she telling you? If it's just about hurting you and treating you without any consent at all, it's important for you to recognise that What boundaries can you put in How much do you want to know What can she do for you to make it easier? What other freedoms might you have? She's had the freedom to, in what ways might you get that? Put everything on the table Use a resource, like my relationship user guide zine Perhaps doing this will reveal some cracks that might be useful, perhaps there's something there for you to explore Also a line of flight. Let's say that you decide to stay together and have this perfect relationship even though you aren't having the sex which you (presumably) would still like to have. How would you know? What difference would it make? If you were able to take this otherwise perfect relationship, how would you, as a team, assemblage, manage this with consent, safety and maximum pleasure?

"History 102" with WhatifAltHist's Rudyard Lynch and Erik Torenberg Key Takeaways  Our society obsesses over African slavery; it has become a deep psychological neurosis that tears society apart Africa had three different slave trades from the Middle Ages to the 20th centuryThe internal African slave (the largest) The Muslim slave trade (selling slaves to the Muslim world; 2nd largest) The Western European slave trade (3rd largest)Throughout human history, Africa was the place that the most slaves were pulled out of – contrasted with other areas such as Europe and Asia, which had centralized governments that were able to protect their citizens Once Africa became a part of the global economy, it realized that it could offer slaves in exchange for goods and servicesThe vast majority of people involved in the African slave trade were black “I don't think any serious historian could ever support the 1619 Project who is not an ideologue. It's not even a historical argument; it's a political argument masquerading through history.” – Rudyard Lynch Because America was so wealthy, African-American slaves had a higher quality of living than the peasantries of Europe did; however, African-American slaves were disenfranchised from any sort of respect or social standards “I think the British ending slavery in the 1830s and 40s is one of the most admirable things a country has done.” – Rudyard Lynch The West practiced slavery, but it was also a society that ended it – which is historically rareAs religions developed and spread around the globe, they eventually abolished slavery among their people Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgIn this episode of History 102, WhatifAltHist creator Rudyard Lynch and Erik Torenberg discuss the history of the Muslim slave trade, a forgotten tragedy that predates and rivals the Atlantic slave trade in both scale and brutality. Cleanse the soil! Purify the blood! Save the children! Make America Healthy Again! On Sept 23, Jordan Peterson, RFK Jr., rising alt-health stars Casey and Calley Means, and many other nutrition non-experts gathered for a live streamed event they called the American Health and Nutrition Roundtable, hosted by Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin. Their subtitle, A Second Opinion, was an apt description for the alternative fact-filled diatribes that ensued. The soil has been poisoned, everyone is fat and sick, the entire medical industry is corrupted by Big Pharma, and Big Food is enacting a genocide on the American people via metabolic dysfunction. COVID skepticism and anti-vax messaging lurked just beneath the surface. The speakers painted a terrifying picture and then presented themselves as benevolent common-sense saviors. At the climax of her speech, Casey Means, fresh from her career-boosting Tucker Carlson appearance, took a deep breath before declaring that this is all actually a spiritual crisis.
