New podcast by @meghanensell and @emjaye_mcdonald!
The ladies are back -- and boy have things changed. Meg and her family are living in a hotel, while Emjaye is growing her brood. That's right, she's in her second trimester and feeling it. Listen in to find out if she's having a boy or girl! They also talk about kindergarten graduations -- should they be a thing? And how young is too young to send your kid on an errand by themselves? Oh, and the kids got to go to the beach over Memorial Day!
It's the season finale, you guys! And it's a GREAT one. The ladies recap their holidays (along with their mutual hatred of Elf on the Shelf), discuss time-out procedures and devolve into eating disorders. And then, it gets good! Their guest, Kelly, shares her experience with infertility, IVF treatments and birthing her daughter -- one nurse said could never happen -- and then twins! She offers advice for those experiencing infertility and also for those who have a loved one struggling with infertility. Thanks to all of our supporters this year! We will be back with Season 2 on Mother's Day!
It's almost Thanksgiving so naturally, the ladies are talking about holiday traditions. When is too soon to put up that tree? Emjaye shares the perks of parenting post-divorce, while Meg drools at the thought of all that free time! Meanwhile, Meg talks about taking separate date nights with her husband and wonders why babysitters have to be so expensive. They end by sharing research about why kids lie and a horrifying news story about an IVF gone wrong.
It's Halloween! The ladies celebrate by discussing kids who kill their parents and why. They come up with a myriad of reasons, such as personality disorders, mental illness and you know, shitty parents. Other things that can be scary? Pooping at work. But Emjaye doesn't think so. She thinks of it as her right as an employee. You be the judge. Listen while you're enjoying your kid's Halloween candy!
Moms aren't immune to mental health issues -- but we are stigmatized for them. In this episode, the ladies divulge their own struggles with mental illness. Meg had postpartum and (has) generalized anxiety, while Emjaye lives with depression. They also are wonderfully mothers! (Gasp.). Em a d Meg go on to discuss how to talk to your kids about mental illness.
Emjaye celebrated her birthday while Meghan curled up on the couch, sick. The two discuss the repercussions of strict/controlling parents before they dive (face first) into food issues. Meghan realizes she's a food pusher and Emjaye relates by sharing she, too, is a member of the clean-plate club. They end by talking about the differences between parenting today versus the previous generation. Spoiler: it involved less screen time and more child autonomy!
Emjaye celebrates her birthday in Idaho and takes a spill, meanwhile Meghan goes on vacation in LA and gets sick. Meghan's 5 y/o son asks about adoption and she's pretty sure she screwed it up. The ladies talk about separation anxiety and assuring your kids you're not leaving (even if you fantasize about it!). They end the episode by each sharing a mom hack that failed.
In this episode, the ladies discuss some of their past criminal behavior (pre-kids, of course!). They also dive into how moms should dress and whether or not we should prompt our kids to apologize. Meghan's son, Archer, shares his (adorable) apology story at the end of the episode! And Emjaye name drops -- apparently her other mother tried to punch Bruce Willis!
You guys! Emjaye broke up with Nerdstick -- deservedly so. So let's talk about revenge stories! Also, Meg shares boring stuff about school uniforms. Listen now.
Warning: this episode is chaos! But, so what? Our lives are, too. We start out rocky, sharing a bit about our mom-cation (rehydrating IVs and couples massages); then we go deep with Kathy, Meg's MIL. She shares what it's like to be the mom of a bullied child (be nice, people!), the differences in siblings, and how she coped with the death of her brother and estrangement with her sister. Grab the tissues and press play, MotherF_ckers! Don't worry though, we end on a high note: Emjaye's daughter tells us about farting and bribery.
Emjaye and Meghan talk about the times they were bridesmaids (and woman-of-honor) and the drama it entailed (a dress causes a break-up). Then they take a U-turn and answer a listener question. Divorced dad wants to know how to handle a child who doesn't want to see the mom. The ladies also discuss how to fight fair. Oh, and mom-cations!
Emjaye is preparing to leave town, again--this time for her cousin's wedding and she's writing the vows. Meghan shares that she wrote her own vows and wonders just how important they are. The ladies take two listener questions. A divorced dad questions how his ex's plastic surgery may affect his young daughters; while another divorced dude wonders how long he must wait to jump into bed with another woman. Spoiler alert: Emjaye and Meg give him full permission (as long as the kiddos aren't around).
Yo! Emjaye and Meghan get interviewed by a rapper. You read that right. So what are two middle-aged mothers doing with a rapper, you ask? Representing motherhood. Remember when the ladies said they were top-notch interviewers last week? They lied. Yung-Rare takes the cake ... or microphone. For a 20-something male with no kids, the dude asks some insightful and thoughtful questions. But he doesn't get off the hook -- the ladies hit him with some questions at the end. This is a good one, Mother F_ckers!
The ladies go deep on this episode, you guys! We are talking Oprah-level interviewing. OK, that's hyperbole but Emjaye and Meghan do conduct interviews -- with each other! Emjaye hits hard, and asks Meghan to recount losing her virginity; while Meghan is dying to know how Emjaye broached the topic of divorce with her ex. Things go sideways when Meghan shares the time she found out she was knocked up -- after she tried hard drugs at a music festival and broke up with the embryo's dad. Oh, and Emjaye sneaks in a humblebrag about skipping a grade in high school.
The ladies welcome their first guest: Meg's mom, Sandy. Sandy dishes about her first date with a man we refer to as "Dollar Bill" but not for the reasons you're thinking. Meanwhile, Emjaye and Sandy smoke while Meg tells them about her son's phobia with underwear. We end with Emjaye bragging about traveling with nerdstick. She better bring back wine.
Meghan's family rescues a bird, and then it dies; meanwhile Emjaye introduces her boyfriend to her mom and unfortunately its anticlimactic. Then the ladies share two different stories of when meeting the parents goes very wrong. But, you be the judge of which one is worse!
Meghan and Emjaye discuss the differences of raising boys vs girls; Meghan wonders if she's inadvertently (and grumpily) raising non-binary kids; Emjaye fields a listener question about how to get a 7-year-old to express his emotions; Meghan pops a Xanax as her son goes into oral surgery and Emjaye teases a meeting between her boyfriend and parents.
Meghan and Emjaye recap their week -- involving a tampon and a pandemic birth. Then, the two go DEEP. We are talking divorce, infidelity allegations and explaining it all to the kiddos. They end on an up note, or should we say "plump" note.
Meghan and Emjaye recap their very different vacations; Meghan shares her son's pre-vacation activity, which involves a buffalo and a penis; Emjaye tells of the time she almost took her son to the ER because he had an erection; and they end with similar stories of their kids finding and playing with their sex toys!
Emjaye and Meghan recap their Mother's Day, Meghan wonders if her kid is a kleptomaniac as she shares a discipline story; meanwhile Emjaye reveals her own brush with the law; and finally, the two take on a listener's question.
Welcome! We covered the basics you guys. Also: is Meghan's kid racist and is Emjaye's kid republican? But really, who cares?
