When Rodger Kennedy was 17 years old, he dropped out of high school. He worked to survive on his own. Over a decade later, right before Rodger turned 30, he decided to get his GED. He wanted to prove a point to his son Sam. “I did it to show them that it's never too late to follow through and finish that goal,” Rodger said. In this week’s episode, we finish our three-part series on OPB’s “Class of 2025.” It’s a project we created back in 2012 when former Oregon governor John Kitzhaber declared the ambitious goal of one-hundred percent graduation by 2025. That’s when OPB decided to document the stories of a kindergarten class on their journey all the way through high school: to capture what it’s like to grow up in the Oregon education system, and all the other life experiences that make us who we are along the way. Thirteen years after Kitzhaber’s State of the State address, one-hundred percent high school graduation is no longer the goal. Today, we tell the stories of the unsung heroes we’ve met along the way: the parents and guardians of the class of 2025 students. Education reporter Elizabeth Miller tells us the story of Rodger and his son Sam, plus all the other ways parents have impacted their kids in the project. It's another new segment! On this series, we will look at some truly forgotten, OFF THE RADAR movies - mostly ones that were never released beyond VHS, if they even got a home video release at all. For our inaugral episode, Ryan chose Meet the Parents - not the 2000 film starring Ben Stiller and Robert DeNiro, but rather the independent 1992 film of the same name that inspired the former, directed by and starring Greg Glienna. Universal aquired the rights to this movie along with Greg's script and have since refused to release this wonderful dark comedy. This week on The Commentary Booth, Jamie Apps and Corrina Mabey take a nostalgic trip back to 2000 to revisit Meet The Parents! As we celebrate our own engagement, we couldn't resist dissecting a rom-com that hilariously captures the chaos of proposing and meeting the in-laws. We dive into the chaotic misadventures of Greg Focker (Ben Stiller), a male nurse whose plans to propose to his girlfriend, Pam (Teri Polo), spiral into disaster when he meets her overprotective father (Robert De Niro). From lie detector tests to milking cats and flaming gazebos, no awkward moment is left unturned!Highlights Breakdown: - Awkward First Impressions – Greg Focker's nightmare weekend with Jack Byrnes - Comedic Chemistry – Why Robert De Niro & Ben Stiller's duo still shines - Timeless or Outdated? – Does Meet The Parents hold up in 2025? - Our Proposal Stories! – How our engagement compares (hopefully, with less drama!)Press play for laughs, nostalgia, and wedding talk! This week's episode is brought to you byAustralian Wrestling CardsCheck out more great content from Pario Magazine on our website.-------------------------------------------------------------SUPPORT PARIO MAGAZINE & THE COMMENTARY BOOTH- PATREON- SAVE 15% ON OODIE- TUBEBUDDY- COMPLETE PAID SURVEYS WITH OCTOPUS GROUP- COMPLETE PAID SURVEYS WITH PUREPROFILE- COMPLETE PAID SURVEYS WITH SURVEYZ- PRODUCTIVITY PLANNER NOTIONMY EQUIPMENT- Elgato Facecam- Rode PodMic- Elgato Wave Mic Arm LP- Streamlabs Talk StudioFOLLOW JAMIE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram- TikTokFOLLOW PARIO MAGAZINE ON SOCIAL MEDIA- Twitter- Facebook- Instagram

Remember Comedies? Remember Shuffle looks back at a now-dead art form and examines the mechanics of the 90 minute feature film comedy. Comedies typically age very poorly, but the simple grounded premise of Meet the Parents allows it to be immortal. We talk about what makes Meet the Parents funny and how it differs fundamentally from a movie like Jerry Seinfeld's Unfrosted. And because it's Remember Shuffle, we'll talk about class and the CIA. Give Remember Shuffle a follow on TwitterAnd on Instagram @RememberShufflePod to interact with the show between episodes. It also makes it easier to book guests.
Ever had a rough first meeting with the in-laws? Well, Meet the Parents takes it to a whole new level! Will our review earn a place in the Byrnes Circle of Trust, or are we getting sent straight to the doghouse? Tune in, laugh with us, and join the discussion—just don't mess with Jinxy!

Things have been a little tough in Los Angeles this month, so we are bringing you our first ever Dead Pilots Society Rerun. This is one of our all-time favorite episodes. From way back in 2020, it's Eternally Yours from Joe Port & Joe Wiseman (Ghosts, The Office, New Girl), about a family of normal looking but emotionally closed off, stuck-together-for-eternity vampires. If you think there's no fresh spins left in the vampire genre, you need to listen to this one. Eternally Yours was recorded live at The Improv in Hollywood and stars Ed Weeks as Charles, Briga Heelan as Liz, Asif Ali as Max, Vella Lovell as Emma, Tony Cavalero as Jesse, Yassir Lester as Benji, Matt Walsh as Mort/Sigmund Freud, Mindy Sterling as Phyllis/Woman/Kristen Stewart, Brendan Scannell as Steve The Blood Guy/Man, David Fumero as Henry, and Andrew Reich with stage directions.
Producer Jane Rosenthal joins us to discuss family comedy Meet the Parents and the successful franchise it inspired. What began as the simple yet wildly entertaining premise of meeting a tough, mobster-like father-in-law like the iconic Robert De Niro turned into a comedic phenomenon. Rosenthal reveals how De Niro's commitment to blending realism with laugh-out-loud absurdity created unforgettable moments for audiences everywhere. She shares how the film's success was rooted in the nerve-wracking and often awkward universal experience of meeting your partner's parents, a moment that viewers can bring their personal experience to. The sequel, Meet the Fockers, was envisioned during the first film's production, with Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand quickly cast as Ben Stiller's on-screen parents. With rumors of a new installment in the franchise, audiences can look forward to more laughs with the family! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
