Dear Friends In the space of recording this podcast with Lynn Taylor, one of the founders of community growing in Nottingham and a font of local food system knowledge, we have emerged out of our cosy chrysalis blinking into the light of a new reality. Have a listen to Lynn, her gentle voice and wisdom about community will soothe you. Please have listen to the back catalogue - so many interesting people, so many food heroes who will give you hope. We need to massively ramp up food growing and social eating spaces - there is a glorious necklace of community gardens - and a farm - across the city but we need to not only expand these important gathering and teaching spaces but to revalue available land and get growing at scale. We are trying to work out how to do podcasts in social isolation - we will have a test run and hopefully will resume weekly broadcasts then! With love Penney and Shona --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ngfplocallunch/message
Hello and welcome to our weekly NGFP Local Lunch podcast trailer where we provide you, our lovely listeners with everything you need to know about Nottingham’s local food heroes and how you can get more involved in our vibrant local food scene! Local lunch is brought to you by me Shona Munro and me Penney Poyzer of Nottingham Good Food Partnership the go to organisation for sustainable food in our fair city. This week our guest is Lynn Taylor. We have both known Lynn for many years and her knowledge of the local food growing scene is un-paralled - and she knows everyone! Lynn is a highly respected community co-ordinator who has worked with a broad spectrum of communities across the city including Asian women, the Vietnamese community and the long established Polish community to name just a few. Very early on in her career she realised that to draw people together you had to be in the heart of those communities and that by offering good food , you can build relationships and then the work flows from there - it's all about trust. We will hear from Lynn about why food has been at the heart of her work and learn about her long relationship with St Ann’s allotments, Social Farms and Gardens and how so much of her work has enabled the network of community gardens to bloom and expand around the city. This network is known as the Nottingham Growing Network which Lynn coordinates, has grown to 24 organisations all of which are building social and natural capacity for the communities in which they flourish. It is going to be a fascinating programme and we very much look forward to introducing Lynn to you. So tune in this Friday at 1.30pm. David’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that plants use to take up and accumulate the essential mineral nutrients that they need for normal growth and development. He is also interested in how plants mistakenly accumulate potentially toxic trace elements such as cadmium and arsenic. These issues are important for agriculture, human health as plants are a major source of dietary mineral, and food safety due to accumulation of potentially toxic trace elements in food. David is also the Director of the University's Future Food Beacon of Excellence, a new research cluster which addresses the challenges of feeding a growing population in a changing world. The Future Food Beacon is an open research platform that brings together expertise from across the food chain – from soils, crop and livestock production, to food production, nutrition, food access and the historical and cultural aspects of food– to deliver sustainable solutions to global food and nutritional security. David is also a skilled gardener, has been known to make cheese and play the guitar. Hello and welcome to the NGFP Local Lunch Friday podcast. Nottingham Good Food Partnership is the go to organisation for all things sustainable food in our fair City. Now normally you would be listening in to me, Shona Munro and the magnificent Penney Poyzer however Penney has totally lost her voice so for this abridged 8 minute episode you will have to make do with my dulcet tones! At NGFP we are steered by the 6 key issues laid out by Sustainable Food Cities, which when looked at together provide a solid framework for relocalising the food system. The focus of this episode is on Key Issue 4: Catalyse a vibrant and diverse, sustainable food economy that expands local food production and shortens supply chains. One of the ways we as citizens of Nottingham can contribute to this ambition, is to shop locally. So today is all about Nottingham's online 'click and collect' local food shopping platform, www.neighbourfood.co.uk/markets/nottingham . It's a social, low carbon way to shop where you get to meet the producers who tend, grow, harvest and bake the food you eat. You place your order online, the shop opens on Thursday evening and closes at 11.59pm the following Tuesday. You then collect your order which is ready packed for you (no plastic packaging wherever possible) between 6-7.30pm from Primary which is located at 33 Seely Road, NG7 1NU. You also have the option to have your order delivered for £4.50 if you reside within a 4 mile radios of Primary. Next week we will be chatting to the inspirational Kimberley Bell, founder of Small Food Bakery. Kimberley is on a mission to #shortenthefoodchain. You can learn about her fascinating journey next week, so make sure to tune in at 1.30pm. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ngfplocallunch/message

Hello! Come and join us for a tasty lunch of sauteed seasonal veggies in a Thai inspired coconut broth. Yum. We will chat to local food hero Sally Rootham about how she achieved a wonderful life balance combining her love of healthy cooking - and growing food. NGFP have been busy this week - speaking at a sustainability conference for student union officers from around the country, hosted by Nottingham Trent University and NTSU. Delegates took part in workshops focussed on climate change, sustainable fashion, plastic waste and food insecurity/food waste. We led the food workshop and also gave a bit of a keynote speech at the end. Loved the energy and ideas of the student union officers. Joining us for lunch tomorrow is our guest Sally Rootham, gardener and volunteer coordinator at Arkwright meadows Community Gardens and also owner of Stripey Beetroot, a successful catering company providing high quality, healthy food for training courses and corporate meetings. Sally was fed up with the beige bland food served at training courses and identified a gap in the market. Sally has lifelong love of cooking freshly made, nutritious tasty food packed with vitamins to feed the mind and body – far more conducive to productivity than a manky sausage roll! Sally has combined her love of cooking and gardening and created a work life that satisfies her soul! Now Sally also does some catering for Nottingham Trent University, which brings us very neatly to the subject of food security in our student population. Find out about what we discovered at a conference we presented at earlier this week – there are some shocking statistics! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ngfplocallunch/message
