Is it possible or productive to organise around a common language in order to reimagine how we produce grain and bread? In the third and final part of Good Bread, Kim and Ruth reflect on some of their experiences working on the project and consider what the future of good bread might look like. Good Bread is a three part series made with Farmerama exploring The Body Lab, a participatory arts and research project by baker Kimberley Bell and artist Ruth Levene considering standardised grain testing and the possibility of reimagining measurement within the system that surrounds bread production.  The Body Lab is funded by Farming The Future. Good Bread is hosted and produced by Lucy Dearlove. Thanks to everyone at Farmerama who has helped on this series in various ways: Jo Barratt, who was a fantastic exec, Abby Rose, Dora Taylor, Olivia Oldham, Annie Landless, Eliza Jenkins and Lucy Fisher. The music is by Owen Barratt. The artwork was by Hannah Grace.  Thanks also to everyone else who has been part of the series: Fred Price at Gothelney Farm, Rosy Benson at Field Bakery + Mill and Chris Holister at Shipton Mill. This week's guest is Kimberley Bell.Body shaming and having a distorted self-body image can lead to negative thought patterns and these thoughts can sometimes trigger eating disorders in some people, which can be life-threatening such as bulimia, binge eating and at the opposite end of the spectrum, anorexia. Kimberley Bell who is a Registered Nutritionist and Master NLP Practitioner, is this week's guest on our show and she candidly opens up about her own personal struggles with an eating disorder which resulted from being body-shamed as a teenager going through puberty. She shares how this ultimately led to her relationship with food spiralling out of control and she became a binge eater. What she discovered when she went to seek help was, that in order to beat binging, you have to fix both the physical and emotional triggers. She tells us, that it doesn't matter how mentally strong you are, if your body is crying out for nutrients, it's going to be extremely difficult to resist a binge on mental strength alone. Kimberley found that the most powerful way to stop is to target both the physical and mental aspects. In today's show, Kimberley explains the benefits of the program she has founded in order to help other women overcome eating disorders, called Mind Your Nutrition, and she also gives us some excellent advice on what sensible eating for good nutrition consists of. There is so much great information shared in this episode that relates to all of us, irrespective of whether we or someone we know is struggling with an eating disorder. In this episode05:05 — Kimberley's career and early nutrition journey16:58 — 3 Main Eating Disorder Categories19:27 — When do eating disorders become life threatening?20:59 — Signs of an Eating Disorder24:41 — Has COVID-19 spiked an increase in Eating Disorder cases?25:11 — Does Social Media play a big role in food and body relationships?27:21 — Kimberley's Nutrition Program31:41 — Should the word “diet” be removed / replaced from the English language?36:42 — Food companies' propaganda's and advertising impact40:24 — Worst foods to eat in terms of overall health45:24 — Types of Weight Loss Diets48:02 — Benefits and Importance of Fasting51:24 — Correlation between eating a type of food and mental health issues55:30 — Kimberley's nutrition advice for the voice communityKimberley's LinksInstagram: @mindyournutritionnzWebsite: www.mindyournutrition.co.nzYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnSXXpPGuH87R9WVdO_4qTAFor more go to https://drmarisaleenaismith.com/64Like this episode? Hello and welcome to the NGFP Local Lunch Friday podcast. Nottingham Good Food Partnership is the go to organisation for all things sustainable food in our fair City. Now normally you would be listening in to me, Shona Munro and the magnificent Penney Poyzer however Penney has totally lost her voice so for this abridged 8 minute episode you will have to make do with my dulcet tones! At NGFP we are steered by the 6 key issues laid out by Sustainable Food Cities, which when looked at together provide a solid framework for relocalising the food system. The focus of this episode is on Key Issue 4: Catalyse a vibrant and diverse, sustainable food economy that expands local food production and shortens supply chains. One of the ways we as citizens of Nottingham can contribute to this ambition, is to shop locally. So today is all about Nottingham's online 'click and collect' local food shopping platform, www.neighbourfood.co.uk/markets/nottingham . It's a social, low carbon way to shop where you get to meet the producers who tend, grow, harvest and bake the food you eat. You place your order online, the shop opens on Thursday evening and closes at 11.59pm the following Tuesday. You then collect your order which is ready packed for you (no plastic packaging wherever possible) between 6-7.30pm from Primary which is located at 33 Seely Road, NG7 1NU. Have you ever experienced vertigo? What are the causes of dizziness? Dr. Kimberley Bell, DPT has been a Physical Therapist for nearly 15 years, and she specializes in helping people with dizziness.  She assesses and treats vertigo, dizziness, and imbalance in people of all ages.  She also helps with other issues thought to be related to aging as well. I brought her on the show to talk about the causes of dizziness, and also some potential treatments that can help. What is Balance? You might have heard of the five senses. These five senses are hearing, taste, sight, smell, and touch.  But there is another sense that we don't talk about. That is the sense of balance.  Without it, you wouldn't be able to sit or stand upright because you wouldn't be able to tell which way “up” was.  And you couldn't tell where “here or “there” was.  Without a sense of balance, gravity, wouldn't mean anything.  It would be fair to say that without any sense of balance, life would be unimaginably disabling.1 Dr. Bell was a wealth of information, especially if you know someone, or you are personally experiences vertigo, equilibrium problems, or the like. She told a story of a client who had experienced vertigo since she was 56 years old.  This person had CT scans, MRIs, and cardiac testing to try to find the causes of dizziness. Dr. Bell did an assessment and found crystals in her inner ear.  BPPV, or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, occurs when a patient has crystals in her inner ear.  It's the most common cause of vertigo, which is that feeling of spinning that some people get. This feeling is not life-threatening (unless you fall and hit your head!).  It comes on suddenly and is usually brief.  You can trigger BPPV when you hold your head a certain way or move your head a certain way.  And of course, its a type of vertigo, or a false sense of movement. Oh, and by the way, it can sometimes be cured by the right therapist. As a matter of fact, Dr. Bell was able to solve her patient's problem (in the story above) in just a few visits. Why can't my doctor find what my causes of dizziness are? Many physicians don't know how to diagnose it, and they are also not trained in how to solve the problem.  Many don't know the causes of dizziness in their patients. The difficulty of making the right vestibular diagnosis is reflected in the fact that in some populations, more than one-third of the patients with a vestibular disease consult more than one physician – in some cases up to more than fifteen.2  Not only that but one recent large epidemiological study estimates that as many as 35% of adults aged 40 years or older in the United States—approximately 69 million Americans—have experienced some form of vestibular dysfunction 3   Dr. Bell shares a story in her blog:   Since February 21, the medical care that I have personally received has caused me to experience vertigo anytime I chew solid food. This was never a problem before. Obviously, I’m not still working with that healthcare provider whose treatment worsened my symptoms, but recovering from the harmful results of the care that I received has taken me now over six weeks. My symptoms have been so bad that my husband has taken off work one or two days every week in order to take care of me. If I didn’t have him, I’m sure I would’ve had to hire a caregiver by now! I’ve been living with mild to severe vertigo off and on since I was five years old, after my first childhood concussion.4  Dr. Bell shares a lot of information in the episode.
