I talk with my dear friend Jia Johnson about the topic of love and rage. Oftentimes, the two feelings are placed in opposition to one another, but Jia dismantles that idea to help us understand that there is not only connection but also goodness within our rage. ------- SHOW NOTES Love and Rage, Lama Rod Owens https://bookshop.org/books/love-and-rage-the-path-of-liberation-through-anger-9781623174095/9781623174095 Teaching to Transgress, bell hooks https://bookshop.org/books/teaching-to-transgress-education-as-the-practice-of-freedom/9780415908085 The 1619 Project, Nikole Hannah-Jones https://bookshop.org/books/the-1619-project-a-new-origin-story/9780593230572 ------- Connect with Camille Website: www.camillehernandez.com Instagram, TikTok, Twitter: @hellocamilleh Connect with Jia Website: www.jiajohnson.com Instagram: @jiaajohnson Twitter: @lejiajohnson
Today I talk with Nallely Lopez about the process of spiritual direction to find out freedom. Nallely López is a Lawtina, Spiritual Director, Pastor, and Eldest Daughter of Immigrant Parents. I serve Jesus and my community wholeheartedly as both a challenger and advocate. As a Lawtina, she strives to be a protector of the people who fight like Nehemiah did with a sword in one hand and a tool in the other. For the past years, Nallely has been reclaiming her Pentecostal background as she taps into the spiritual strengths of Hispanic/Latino ministry leaders and students, exploring Pentecostalism and Charismatic theology, identifying the work of the Holy Spirit within the contemplative stream and build upon the strong communal values with the Hispanic/Latino community. ---------- CONNECT WITH CAMILLE www.camillehernandez.com Instagram, Twitter, TikTok @hellocamilleh CONNECT WITH NALLELY Instagram: @wonder_nelly ---------- Resources... The practice of hope requires us to journey through grief. Today's meditation is inspired by the verses in Matthew 2:17-18 which confirms a prophesy foretold in the Hebrew Bible (Jeremiah 31:15). Together we're reflecting on the hope we've built in this year by naming our joy, acknowledging what we grieve and seeing the connections we've made along the way.
I speak with Meleca Consultado, a Filipina-American educator and organizer, about how she uses celebration as a tool for resistance and remembrance. In this conversation we talk about preserving our Filipinx heritage through gathering, the importance of context & intentionality, the differences between hope and toxic positivity, why we need to expand the idea of registries beyond weddings & babies, and the cultural relevance of Filipino spaghetti (#IYKYK). ______ Meleca and I reference our strengthsfinder talents and the enneagram. In this episode I have a conversation with activist and theologian Heidi Lepe on our experiences with body policing within the church and how it perpetuated spiritual abuse, objectification, and hindered the healing path of sexual abuse survivors. Interwoven in this conversation is how the life of Mary inspires our collective liberation from these systems of dominance. ---- Latinas Evangelicas https://bookshop.org/books/latina-evangelicas-a-theological-survey-from-the-margins/9781608991365 ----- CONNECT WITH CAMILLE: www.camillehernandez.com Follow on instagram, twitter and tiktok at @hellocamilleh ----- CONNECT WITH HEIDI: Twitter @heidilepe Instagram: @shetheordinary and @heidilizabeth
Today's podcast is a meditation to help us visualize finding safety and setting boundaries. For today's interview I speak with Sharday Renee about all the things relevant to us as Black, Indigenous and Asian moms with trauma. We start the conversation with our experiences birthing our pandemic babies, how the Black maternal health crisis impacts our maternal care, why gentle parenting isn't enough for moms with trauma, and creating our own vision for a restorative-ancestral-wisdom-spiritual-healing-based motherhood. Sharday is a wife to one, mama to three young royalty. She is a social reformer currently returning home to the art of storytelling. This tradition is an artform that is deeply embedded into her through her afro-Indigenous roots. Sharday is most aligned within herself when she nurtures empowered-interwoven stories to inspire those around her to rise. Join Camille as she speaks with Alicia T. Crosby about the harm caused by purity culture, their efforts to reclaim the parts of their sexuality they denied, and their exploits as heauxs. ---- Alicia T. Crosby (she/hers) is a justice educator, activist, and minister whose work addresses the spiritual, systemic, and interpersonal harm people experience. Through her teaching, writing, speaking, and space curation, Alicia helps individuals, communities, and institutions explore and unpack topics related to identity, justice, journey, and intersectional equity.
