The way of Jesus is the way of humility—and yet pride lurks in every one of our hearts. Pride keeps us comparing, striving, and resisting God, while humility positions us to receive His grace. True Christian leadership is not marked by pride or self-importance but by a posture of humility, following the example of Jesus who became a servant. Scripture is clear: God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). True humility is not misery, weakness, or hiding who you are—it's seeing everything as a gift, boasting only in Christ, and living to serve others. Pride deceives us, but humility frees us to walk in the strength and joy of becoming more like Jesus. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. Life presents us with many paths, but not all of them lead to life. David shows us in Psalm 16 that confidence, joy, and lasting satisfaction are only found in God. We often run after “functional gods” like career, romance, money, or approval, but they multiply sorrow instead of bringing peace. The narrow path of following Jesus may not always feel comfortable, but it leads to true joy and pleasures that never end. David reminds us that in God's presence there is fullness of joy, and that apart from Him we have no good thing. He speaks truth to his soul, declaring the Lord as his refuge, portion, and treasure. As we fast, we echo David's cry: nothing I desire besides You, Lord. Fasting becomes a way to tune our hearts back to Him, a holy homesickness for the One in whose presence we find life forevermore. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. The Gospel of Mark: Render to God the Things that are God's

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 17, 2025 36:27

Whose authority are you living under? When confronted with a politically charged trap, Jesus shows Himself to be the wisest person on earth. The Pharisees and Herodians, enemies who unite only because they hate Him more, try to corner Him with a question about taxes. But Jesus doesn't take the bait. Instead, He exposes the deeper issue—our rebellion against God. “Why put Me to the test?” He asks, cutting straight to the heart. His answer, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's,” challenges our view of ownership and authority. Taxes may belong to Caesar, but our very lives belong to God. To render to Him is not to pay from what we think is ours, but to surrender what has always been His. This call feels costly, but it comes from the One who gave up His own riches, stepped down into poverty, and bore the cost of our rebellion so we could be made rich in Him. The real question is not whose authority Jesus affirms—but whether we have surrendered ourselves fully to God.You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. The Gospel of Mark: The Lord of the Vineyard

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 3, 2025 35:00

When Jesus comes with authority, does your heart welcome Him or push back? Jesus tells a parable about a vineyard, unfaithful tenants, and a rejected son—a clear rebuke of the religious leaders who continually resisted God's messengers. Drawing from Isaiah's vineyard prophecy, Jesus reveals God's long-suffering patience toward His people despite their repeated rejection. But when the Son arrives, they don't just ignore Him—they scheme to remove Him and take control. This isn't just about ancient Israel; it's a window into every human heart that resists God's authority. We want to be in charge. But to come to Jesus is to surrender—to receive Him not only as Savior, but as King. God holds leaders accountable, yes—but He also calls each of us to live with humility, faithfulness, and a willingness to let go of control. The rejected Son has become the Cornerstone—and He alone is worthy to lead our lives. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. The Gospel of Mark: Faith That Pleases God

Jesus is King—and He's not just building a new way forward, He's dismantling what's broken. As He passes the fig tree and speaks of moving mountains, He's not offering a blank check for our desires; He's declaring judgment on a religious system that had lost its way. This passage has often been misunderstood, fueling teachings that twist faith into a formula for getting what we want. But Jesus wasn't pointing to name-it-and-claim-it faith—He was revealing the kind of faith that trusts God's will, stands on His Word, and rests in His grace. He's calling His followers into a new kind of prayer life: rooted in humility, sustained by grace, and marked by forgiveness. True faith doesn't manipulate God—it submits to Him. As we align our hearts with His, we become people who pray boldly, trust deeply, and interpret Scripture with care, anchoring ourselves in His character and His kingdom. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. The Gospel of Mark: Surrendering to Jesus as King

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 20, 2025 45:01

Sometimes the Jesus we want isn't the Jesus we get. As Jesus begins His journey to the cross, He reveals His true identity—and it demands a response. The crowds shout “Hosanna,” hoping for the kind of king they expected. But Jesus came not just to save, but to rule. His Lordship means dethroning ourselves and surrendering fully to Him. From the fig tree that appeared alive but bore no fruit, to the temple He cleared with righteous authority, Jesus exposes spiritual hypocrisy and calls us to full submission. He is King, Judge, and Lord of all—and when we welcome Him in, He comes with authority, ready to purify our hearts and realign our lives with His mission and His ways. That purification may bring disruption, but it's a holy disruption—a reordering of our lives under His rule. It challenges us to ask: does Jesus have access to every area of our lives—our time, our resources, our giftings—or are we still holding the reins? You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. The Gospel of Mark: Jesus Opens the Eyes of the Blind

When was the last time you cried out to Jesus with everything you had? Bartimaeus was a blind beggar—overlooked, desperate, and clinging to hope. Day after day, he sat by the road, listening to stories about a man named Jesus—stories of healing, of power, of mercy. And then one day, Jesus passed by. In that moment, Bartimaeus didn't hold back. He cried out with everything he had: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! Even when others tried to silence him, he refused to stay quiet. And Jesus stopped. He saw him, called him close, and healed him. But the story didn't end there—Bartimaeus didn't just receive his sight. He chose to follow Jesus from that day forward. Why do we seek God's power in our lives? Is it just to feel better, fix a problem, or move on? Or is it so we can truly follow Him? Jesus is still opening blind eyes—helping us see Him as the treasure we've been longing for all along. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. That means we have to first receive the reality that He gave His life to rescue us from sin and from the empty, self-focused ways we used to live. But it doesn't stop there—ransomed people live differently. We don't cling to status or success. We don't demand to be served. We follow the example of Jesus and live to serve others. How do we know if we are true disciples of Jesus? How do we know if we have truly repented and believed in the gospel? This week, Chris Nagel brought us back to our Mark series, looking at chapter 9 where Jesus teaches about the heart of a true disciple. True disciples seek true greatness in God's eyes, not the appearance of greatness. True disciples are much more concerned about their own allegiance to Jesus than about policing everyone else's. And true disciples are not casual about sin, but fight sin ruthlessly in their lives. Jesus' words and warnings in this passage help us see the true state of our own hearts so that we can repent and realign our lives with Him.You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. Culture shapes how we see the world—but often in ways that distort what's true. It elevates feelings over truth, self-fulfillment over sacrifice, and emotional comfort over obedience. But Jesus calls us to something better. As families, we're meant to walk in spiritual truth—not cultural trends. That means building a shared identity centered on Jesus, openly sharing our stories of His faithfulness, and treasuring God's Word together. It means creating a home where grace is practiced, repentance is modeled, forgiveness is freely given, and each person is honored for who God made them to be. We choose humility over pride, truth over emotion, and connection to God's family—the Church—over isolation. In a world pulling us in every direction, we're invited to live with intention, shaping families marked by truth, devotion, and a love that always points back to Jesus. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. Family Legacy: Raising Kids with God's Authority

Parenting is a sacred calling—one where God entrusts parents with real, God-given authority to shepherd their children toward His purposes. This authority isn't about control, but about representing God through love, truth, discipline, and consistency. Our children are like arrows—meant to be shaped, aimed, and released with intention. But they won't hit the target by chance. At the core of our parenting is a spiritual battle: our kids, like all of us, are born with a desire for self-autonomy, a sinful pull to live apart from God's authority. As parents, we are called to lovingly confront that pull and point them to the only One who can set them free—Jesus. Without stepping into our role as ambassadorial authority, we risk sending our children into a world unprepared for what truly matters. God's Word gives us everything we need to raise children who know their purpose, honor their parents, and live under the life-giving authority of God.You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. The Gospel of Mark: Following the Real Jesus

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 6, 2025 37:28

Sometimes we come to Jesus thinking we see clearly, but like Peter in this passage, we often only see part of the picture. When Jesus asks, “Who do you say I am?” Peter gets the right answer—“You are the Christ.” But he still doesn't fully understand what that means. He's holding onto his own ideas of who Jesus should be, and it leads him to push back against Jesus' plan to suffer and be killed. We can do the same. We can hold on to our own ideas, our preconceived notions about Jesus. But following Jesus means laying all of that down - laying down our very life! As we surrender and trust Jesus, one obedient step at a time, we get a greater revelation of who He is, and we experience true life in Him.You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning.
