What does it really mean to live sent? In this message, we explore how mission doesn't start with going far; it starts with loving close. Jesus built His mission through ordinary people who were willing to show up, stay faithful, and be present in everyday life. From the Great Commandment to the Great Commission, this teaching challenges the idea that mission is only for professionals and reminds us that every follower of Jesus is sent; into homes, neighborhoods, workplaces, and beyond. Learn how proximity shapes influence, why obedience matters more than outcomes, and how faithful presence can change lives over time.2.8.2026 - Message 4
Week 1 of "The Call" series.
Introduction What is the hardest commandment for you to obey that the Lord has given? Don't lie Don't steal (that includes things like downloading stuff for free that you didn't pay for or mooching off the wifi of your neighbor) Don't commit adultery (or better yet, don't lust) Don't dishonor father…
To be human is to be on a quest. Whether we realise it or not, our lives are always moving toward what we love. Our desires shape our direction, and our worship quietly forms who we are becoming. In this episode, we explore the truth that we are primarily loving beings — not just thinking ones. What you love will shape you. Jesus invites us into true humanity through the Great Commandment: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength — not as pressure, but as freedom.
In this episode of No Compromise Radio, Pastor Mike explores the biblical narrative of Mary and Martha from Luke 10:38–42 to provide a framework for healthy Christian ministry. Addressing pastors and laypeople alike, Mike warns that losing focus on Jesus leads to "ministry burnout," resentment, and a "pity party" mentality. He contrasts Martha’s "distracted" service with Mary’s "good portion"—the countercultural act of sitting at the Lord's feet as a disciple. By linking this passage to the Great Commandments, the episode argues that while service is necessary, the primary "means of grace" must be prioritized to sustain a life of faith and prevent ministerial frustration. What does it really mean to have a radical focus on Jesus? Many of us believe the right things and stay connected to church, yet our lives can feel blurry and unfocused. In this message, Pastor AK Kuruvilla explores why focusing on Jesus is foundational to a well-lived life and how loving Him is always expressed through obedience. By looking at the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, we are reminded that following Jesus is not about extremes but about exclusive allegiance. • A radical focus on Jesus is the root of how we live, love, and follow Him• Loving Jesus is evidenced by obedience, even when it's difficult• Discipleship happens in the gap between knowing truth and living it outKey Scriptures:Matthew 22:36–40Matthew 28:18–20John 14:15–23Colossians 2:6–7Psalm 16:1–11Ask yourself where your focus may have drifted and what obedience to Jesus looks like in this season of life. Commit to growing alongside others by stepping into biblical community, and share this message with someone who desires a life centered on Christ.Bayou City Fellowship Spring Branch Campus | AK Kuruvilla | January 18, 2026https://linktr.ee/bayoucityfellowship
By Ron Davenport - In this message we explore how John used the word agape and the examples of the actions of God and Jesus Christ to define what agape is.
For in [Christ] all things were created…all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together…For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross (Colossians 1:16-17, 19-20) Again, I want to address the question, "Why produce a weekly podcast on the subject of work?" Work must be understood here as more than what we do to earn a paycheck. It includes that, of course, but also other regular things we do to live in this world. Things like the laundry, the dishes, mowing the grass or shoveling snow. It includes driving our children or grandchildren to school or dance lessons. Often, we preachers make it sound like these are irrelevant to the mission of God in the world. That is wrong. Dorothy Sayers once advised preachers, When you find a [person] who is a Christian praising God by the excellence of their work—do not distract them and take them away from their proper vocation to address religious meetings... Let them serve God in the way to which God has called them... [Do] not take them away from it, so that they may do ecclesiastical work for you. But, if you have any power, see that [they] are set free to do their own work as well as it may be done. They are not there to serve you; they are there to serve God by serving their work (Creed or Chaos?). In these weekly podcasts addressing work, I hope to "set you free to do your work as well as it may be done…to serve God by serving your work". I hope you come to understand more deeply that the mission of God includes your whole life. This mission includes the Great commission to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20) and the Great Commandment to love God and neighbour (Matthew 22:36-40). But it also includes the Cultural Mandate to explore, name, develop and cultivate the creation (Genesis 1:28). Neither the arrival of sin, nor the arrival of Jesus to redeem creation nullified that mandate. The Great Commission and the Great Commandment do not lessen the value of our work. What better way to participate in this mandate then to do our everyday, mundane, ordinary work well, offering it to God for his glory and for the good of humanity? When you are at work you are in a context where pastors and missionaries rarely if ever show up. It is in that place that God has called you to cultivate creation, love your neighbour and bear witness to the goodness of the gospel. The mission of God includes the renewal, restoration, and reformation of all things. All Christian, in all industries, are invited to participate in this comprehensive mission. Our workplaces are the critical spaces where we will either learn to follow Christ faithfully or walk away from him. Our workspaces are integral to the mission of God, no sideshow. There, you are at the leading edge of God's reconciling work. As you journey on, go with the blessing of God: Wherever God takes you today, may He fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit and that you may live carefully—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity.
2 Timothy 2:2 - In this message, the pastor emphasizes that the church's mission is grounded in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission — to love God, love others, and make disciples who make disciples. He contrasts a consumer model of church with Jesus' organic, relational model of training and reproducing disciples through teaching, tasking, and accountability.
Pastor Ike casts vision for 2026, calling the church to pursue God's preferred future by living out the Great Commission, the Great Commandments, and the Great Compassion. This message challenges us to reach our community with both hands—showing compassion and justice while boldly inviting others to follow Jesus—and to believe that the gospel can truly change lives and the world.

In studying Scripture, we learn that the world defines love differently from how the Bible does. Today, we look at Matthew 22:34-40 and the Great Commandment.
Matthew 22:34-40 | 14 December 2025
Join us for "The Great Commandment and The Great Commission" A discussion with Dr. Matt Homeyer from the sermon series Making Room in the Heart. This episode aired on November 23rd, 2025.
What if loving your neighbor isn't optional, but the heartbeat of following Jesus? In “The Great Commandment” we're challenged to move beyond good intentions and take simple, practical steps to love God and love people right where we live. When we do, everyday relationships can become the front lines of God's transforming love.
The Great Commandment to love your neighbor as yourself assumes you already love yourself well. Many struggle with self-love because they've accepted false substitutes like possessiveness, dependency, or self-neglect instead of true biblical love. True love is a volitional choice that seeks genuine good regardless of merit or cost. To love yourself properly, you must see yourself through God's eyes, forgive yourself for past mistakes, take personal responsibility for your actions and healing, set healthy boundaries, and develop a theology of self-care. When you understand your worth to God and care for yourself authentically, you can love others from a place of wholeness rather than neediness.
Revival begins with God awakening His people to the Great Commandment, and the Great Commission. Pastor Banning reminds us that discipleship isn't just for a few, it's something every believer is called to. True discipleship means walking with people, inviting God to work through our lives, and helping others become more like Jesus. Who are you investing in?
Community vs Sacred CommunityThis week we continued our series on Sacred Community and dug into a big question: what is the difference between regular community and sacred community?Community is something most of us experience by default. You can have community just by living in a town, being part of a neighborhood, or sitting in a church service. It can feel comforting, familiar, and even good for us. Yet community alone is not what Jesus called us to.Sacred community is different. It does not happen by accident. It takes purpose, sacrifice, commitment, and real engagement with others. You cannot experience sacred community by simply showing up, filling a seat, and consuming spiritual content. Sacred community requires us to invest in each other, support each other, and grow in Christ together.Scripture reminds us how powerful and necessary this is:Where two or three gather in My name, I am with them (Matthew 18:20)Two are better than one… a cord of three strands is not easily broken (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)Sacred community happens in homes, around tables, in daily life… not just on Sundays. We looked at the three “Great” callings Jesus gives us:Great Commandment – Love God fully and love people deeply (Matthew 22:37-40)Great Commission – Make disciples, baptize, and teach (Matthew 28:19-20)Great Compassion – Serve, care, and love the least of these (Matthew 25:34-40)When we live out all three, we don't just have church community. We live as a sacred community shaped by Jesus. We were challenged to shift from “church is here to serve me” to “I am here to serve others.” If we already have Jesus and believe He truly is enough, then our mission is to give Him away. Faith is not meant to be consumed but lived and shared. As Dr. Andy Haskins said:A commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, lived out with Great Compassion, creates a great church. At Light & Life, our purpose is clear:To expand God's Kingdom by developing and equipping faithful followers of Jesus.People are not our problem.People are our purpose. We are not called to be spectators, fans, or attendees. We are called to be disciples who make disciples. Sacred community forms where we intentionally love, serve, encourage, challenge, and walk alongside others.Let's not settle for just being in the room.Let's build something holy together. Thanks for joining us for a weekly message from DuBois Light & Life Church. Today you will hear encouraging words, worship, and a message. Our goal is that you would find Hope, Healing, and Purpose in Jesus Christ. Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our theme "Five Stunning Realities of the Gospel. Our scripture reference was Mark 6:42. We had a great discussion on how the Gospel is about provision, yet it's always about satisfaction. God wants us to be satisfied in the soul. We heard so many listener calls sharing the joy they have in God's provisions in their lives...and usually it's the simplest things. We spoke with Dr. David Nelms, the Founder of The Timothy Initiative (TTI). He shared that one of the most significant provisions of the Gospel is that we can love others and tell others about the Gospel. The Great Commission is great, but the Great Commandment to love others as God has loved us and tell them the Good News is even greater! Dr. Alex McFarland also joined us. He's a Christian apologist, author, evangelist, and culture analyst. He emphasized that the greatest satisfaction found in the Gospel is the cross! Every other provision and satisfaction comes from what happened on the cross. People can miss the blessings because they don't understand and culture is unstable. He offered 10 Questions Every Christian is asking or soon will be (to receive: text TEN to 1-800-555-7898). Also, his latest book is called "100 Bible Questions and Answers on Prophecy and the End Times". You can listen to the highlights of today's program on the Karl and Crew Showcast. Sermon from Matthew 22:34–46 preached on October 19, 2025, by Nathan Lugbill
Sermon at 14:58. Bulletin: Trinity 18 Bulletin 25 Congregation at Prayer: CaP, 10/19/25
In this episode of Side Notes, Josh and Arch share inspiring stories of everyday people stepping into love and service. They explore what it looks like to live the Great Commandment and the Great Commission beyond Sunday mornings and challenge listeners to ask: "How can I be more intentional about loving God and loving others today?" This isn't just church planning—this is church living. It's about transforming neighborhoods, building authentic relationships, and living missionally wherever God has placed you.
This week, Terrence reminded us of the undeniable call for Christians to be known by their love. Drawing from Matthew 25, he challenged us to reflect on our “love life”—not in a romantic sense, but in how our faith moves us to action for others. Jesus shows us that love isn't passive—it's creative, costly, deep, and sometimes uncomfortable—but it is always our calling. As a church, we're stepping boldly into partnerships with the "church. at Bashford Manor" and their five immigrant congregations, living out the Great Commission and the Great Commandment: loving God, loving our neighbors, and serving the least among us. The invitation is clear and urgent: join God where He is already at work, live faithfully as Kingdom people, and let your love shine as a public witness of Christ's transforming power. Will you join us in this prayer? "God, whatever You are doing in this season, don't do it without us."
The day of salvation is now, and it is not something to put off for tomorrow. God calls each of us to reach one person for Christ, but to do this, we need three things:To reach your ONE, you need three things:An uncommon concernAn uncommon connectionAn uncommon callingThis sermon challenges you to act today, recognizing that now is the time of salvation. In this powerful episode of the Decisions Podcast, host Jonathan Pitts sits down with Roland Warren, President and CEO of Care Net, to discuss what it truly means to champion life with both compassion and conviction. Drawing from his personal journey and his new book, The Alternative to Abortion: Why We Must Be Pro Abundant Life, Roland challenges the church to go beyond simply opposing abortion and instead offer a holistic, Christ-centered vision of abundant life. From his own story of facing an unplanned pregnancy as a young college student to his leadership in the pro-life movement, Roland shares how God has used pivotal moments to shape his calling and impact. This episode is a bold and inspiring call to action for believers to embrace the sanctity of life, marriage, and family as part of living out the Great Commandment and Great Commission. In this episode of Side Notes, Josh and Arch explore what it means to live out the Great Commandment and Great Commission. From behind-the-scenes stories and moments of levity to practical examples like explaining communion, baptism, and student ministry events, they show how faith is put into action every day. Reflecting on the church's roots in the neighborhood, they discuss how honoring the past shapes the future—equipping people to love God, love others, and make disciples in their schools, workplaces, and communities.
☞ ABOUT THIS MESSAGE Andrew explains that we are called to be living witnesses in a divine courtroom, reflecting God's character to the world. Using Jesus as our perfect example, we are encouraged to live out the Great Commandment and Great Commission. The challenge is to move beyond just holding the title of Christian to living an authentic testimony. Despite the church's historical successes and failures, we, like a cracked mirror, can still reflect Jesus without being perfect. ☞ BIBLE APP NOTES https://www.bible.com/events/49486935 ☞ GROUP LEADER GUIDE https://page.church.tech/ef3d3a6e ☞ NEXT STEPS
