In this series we’ve been asking some big theological questions, like: What is the Bible, What is God the Father, and what is God the Son, what is God the Holy Spirit. And over the past couple of weeks we looked at the questions What is Sin and Salvation and What is Eternal Security. Today we’re looking at another ‘What is…’ question—What is The Great Commandment—a question that is asked of and directly answered by Jesus Himself.
This homily focuses on a reflection on St. Mark 12:28-34, in which Jesus identifies the greatest commandments as loving God completely and loving one's neighbor as oneself. It emphasizes that while humans possess a natural moral code to do good and avoid evil, Christ provides a necessary shortcut to understanding our true obligations amidst life's many distractions. True faith is not merely about possessing knowledge or offering empty sacrifices, but rather about auditing one's life to ensure actions align with these dual commands. The reflection encourages listeners to dedicate every faculty—including the heart, mind, soul, and strength—to the service of God and the practical care of even the most difficult neighbors. Ultimately, the homily suggests that loving others is the essential litmus test for one's genuine love for the Creator.
Welcome to Greatheart's Table. Pull up a chair as we revisit an episode first aired in early 2022. My concern then as now is that as critical as evangelism and kingdom growth and the Great Commission are, none of that trumps the importance of the Great Commandment. We have, it seems to me, been dancing with the wrong partner. I'd love to know what you think. There is plenty of room around Greatheart's Table, so please invite others to join us. The podcast world is a densely populated space. We will go unnoticed without your help. Link to us on social media, and tell others about us on your platforms. Every bit helps. Go Love Together - looks at the three “Greats” in the New Testament - The Great Commandment , the Great Commission, and the Great Collaboration. We are all familiar with the Great Commission and the challenge to “Go.” There has been much taught on the Great Commandment and the need to go with “Love.” But it is the last part of Jesus' mission – which was Jesus' final prayer – that we have forgotten. It's the Great Collaboration – that we are to go in love Together!

Summary: Our hearts were designed to find satisfaction by delighting in God. In fact, satisfying our heart in this way is the foundational starting point for our mission. God has designed life so that our heart loves must be ordered properly. The first commandment and Great Commandment are about giving God first place in our affections—“Have no gods before me.” “Love me with all of your heart, mind, soul, and strength.” We were created to be worshippers, to delight ourselves in the Lord—to find pleasure in praising God's moral beauty. In fact, Peter tells us that the purpose of our redemption is to fulfill our created role first and foremost as worshippers. Peter writes, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Pet 2:9). Nehemiah 12 is the story of God's people celebrating God and proclaiming his excellencies. From it we remember again how to keep our heart properly aligned by filling our heart with the joy of praising him For Further Prayerful Thought. Why do we not devote ourselves more to delighting ourselves in him?Nehemiah inspired thankfulness to God in his people's hearts for what God had done (enabling them to complete the wall in 53 days) by having them physically walking on the wall they built. How can we, as Christians, do a better job of setting our focus on what God has done for us?What else stood out to you about this joyful worship celebration planned by Nehemiah? For the printed version of this message click here. For a summary of topics addressed by podcast series, click here. For FREE downloadable studies on men's issues click here.To make an online contribution to enable others to hear about the podcast: (Click link and scroll down to bottom left)
The Great Commandment & The Great CommissionWhat happens when the joy of following Jesus meets the call to go?In this message, we explore the powerful connection between the Great Commandment—loving God and loving people—and the Great Commission—going and making disciples. These aren't separate ideas; they are deeply intertwined. When love is the foundation, sharing our faith becomes a natural overflow, not a heavy obligation. If you've ever felt unsure, awkward, or overwhelmed about sharing your faith, you're not alone. The first disciples felt it too. But Jesus' encouragement remains the same: trust Him, live with intention, and let love lead the way.In this sermon, we unpack:-What it really means to “go” in everyday life-How to walk alongside others in authentic discipleship-Why love is the driving force behind mission-Practical, natural ways to share your faith without pressure-This message is an invitation to shift from fear to freedom—to see people as people, not projects, and to trust God with the outcome. This week's challenge: Think of one person. What's one small, loving step you can take toward them?To support the ministry of Melbourne Inclusive Church go to: www.michurch.org.au/giveMelbourne Inclusive Church boldly and proudly proclaims Christ's equal love for all people regardless of their ability, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, gender, race, ethnicity, or culture.Melbourne Inclusive Church is part of the EMI Global family of churches.
In this powerful message, Pastor Peter announces a divine season of spiritual renewal and the nearness of the Lord, inviting the church to move beyond a "spirit of sameness" and embrace a fresh move of God. As the community begins "Seek Week," a dedicated time of prayer and fasting, listeners are encouraged to trade natural distractions for time "feasting on the Lord" to gain mental sharpness and spiritual momentum. Grounded in Psalm 103:5, Pastor Peter explains that God desires to renew our youth like the eagles, providing a buoyant, missionary spirit that rejects lethargy and weariness, regardless of one's age. This teaching challenges us to return to the "ancient path" of the gospel, becoming a community that fulfills the Great Commandment to love God and the Great Commission to reach those far from Him (Mark 16:15). Ultimately, we are called to draw near to God with a holy awe, trusting that His presence will revitalize our lives, our families, and our entire region.
Message by: Scott Treadway In the Great Commandment, Jesus invites us to love God "with all our minds", yet so much of church life resists thinking deeply about faith. What we believe and why we believe it is rarely questioned or challenged, perhaps for fear of getting it wrong or being judged. This message frees us to enjoy the journey of our God-given mind as our faith stretches and grows by thinking, reasoning, learning, and even questioning. In this message, Pastor Mark Butler unpacks three foundational pillars that shape a strong and enduring walk with God. He begins with The Great Commitment, revealing how our ability to stay steady through life's pressures is directly tied to understanding God's unwavering commitment to us. From there, he moves into The Great Commission, challenging believers to move beyond passive faith and embrace their role in reaching others with the Gospel in everyday life. Finally, he brings it all together with The Great Commandment, calling us back to the heart of it all, loving God fully and loving people authentically.
Spurgeon speaks of the greatest commandment of all, yet one we scarcely discuss. After telling the beauty of the law, he reminds us that we in no way can keep it. Be sure to listen to the very end!
In Deuteronomy 6, God gives his people one great commandment that summarizes the entire law: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” This message explores what it truly means to love God—not as fleeting emotion, but through treasuring his word, remaining loyal in every season, selflessly serving him, and reflecting his love to the next generation. We also see how Jesus perfectly fulfilled this commandment where […]

The Great Commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. But it seems like the mind part of that gets left out. More than just strictly an emotional thing, loving God involves loving Him with our mind as well.

What does it really mean to live sent? In this message, we explore how mission doesn't start with going far; it starts with loving close. Jesus built His mission through ordinary people who were willing to show up, stay faithful, and be present in everyday life. From the Great Commandment to the Great Commission, this teaching challenges the idea that mission is only for professionals and reminds us that every follower of Jesus is sent; into homes, neighborhoods, workplaces, and beyond. Learn how proximity shapes influence, why obedience matters more than outcomes, and how faithful presence can change lives over time.2.8.2026 - Message 4
Week 1 of "The Call" series.
Introduction What is the hardest commandment for you to obey that the Lord has given? Don't lie Don't steal (that includes things like downloading stuff for free that you didn't pay for or mooching off the wifi of your neighbor) Don't commit adultery (or better yet, don't lust) Don't dishonor father…
To be human is to be on a quest. Whether we realise it or not, our lives are always moving toward what we love. Our desires shape our direction, and our worship quietly forms who we are becoming. In this episode, we explore the truth that we are primarily loving beings — not just thinking ones. What you love will shape you. Jesus invites us into true humanity through the Great Commandment: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength — not as pressure, but as freedom.
In this episode of No Compromise Radio, Pastor Mike explores the biblical narrative of Mary and Martha from Luke 10:38–42 to provide a framework for healthy Christian ministry. Addressing pastors and laypeople alike, Mike warns that losing focus on Jesus leads to "ministry burnout," resentment, and a "pity party" mentality. He contrasts Martha’s "distracted" service with Mary’s "good portion"—the countercultural act of sitting at the Lord's feet as a disciple. By linking this passage to the Great Commandments, the episode argues that while service is necessary, the primary "means of grace" must be prioritized to sustain a life of faith and prevent ministerial frustration. What does it really mean to have a radical focus on Jesus? Many of us believe the right things and stay connected to church, yet our lives can feel blurry and unfocused. In this message, Pastor AK Kuruvilla explores why focusing on Jesus is foundational to a well-lived life and how loving Him is always expressed through obedience. By looking at the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, we are reminded that following Jesus is not about extremes but about exclusive allegiance. • A radical focus on Jesus is the root of how we live, love, and follow Him• Loving Jesus is evidenced by obedience, even when it's difficult• Discipleship happens in the gap between knowing truth and living it outKey Scriptures:Matthew 22:36–40Matthew 28:18–20John 14:15–23Colossians 2:6–7Psalm 16:1–11Ask yourself where your focus may have drifted and what obedience to Jesus looks like in this season of life. By Ron Davenport - In this message we explore how John used the word agape and the examples of the actions of God and Jesus Christ to define what agape is.
2 Timothy 2:2 - In this message, the pastor emphasizes that the church's mission is grounded in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission — to love God, love others, and make disciples who make disciples. He contrasts a consumer model of church with Jesus' organic, relational model of training and reproducing disciples through teaching, tasking, and accountability.
Pastor Ike casts vision for 2026, calling the church to pursue God's preferred future by living out the Great Commission, the Great Commandments, and the Great Compassion. This message challenges us to reach our community with both hands—showing compassion and justice while boldly inviting others to follow Jesus—and to believe that the gospel can truly change lives and the world.

Pastor Sam Rainer preaches on the fundamentals of the faith. What really matters today for the church? We believe every Christian should practice the Great Commandment. In the kingdom, love for God is not separated from love for people. You cannot love God while neglecting your neighbors.
In studying Scripture, we learn that the world defines love differently from how the Bible does. Today, we look at Matthew 22:34-40 and the Great Commandment.

Join us for "The Great Commandment and The Great Commission" A discussion with Dr. Matt Homeyer from the sermon series Making Room in the Heart. This episode aired on November 23rd, 2025.
What if loving your neighbor isn't optional, but the heartbeat of following Jesus? In “The Great Commandment” we're challenged to move beyond good intentions and take simple, practical steps to love God and love people right where we live. When we do, everyday relationships can become the front lines of God's transforming love.
Revival begins with God awakening His people to the Great Commandment, and the Great Commission. Pastor Banning reminds us that discipleship isn't just for a few, it's something every believer is called to. True discipleship means walking with people, inviting God to work through our lives, and helping others become more like Jesus. Who are you investing in?
Today, on Karl and Crew, we continued our theme "Five Stunning Realities of the Gospel. Our scripture reference was Mark 6:42. We had a great discussion on how the Gospel is about provision, yet it's always about satisfaction. God wants us to be satisfied in the soul. We heard so many listener calls sharing the joy they have in God's provisions in their lives...and usually it's the simplest things. We spoke with Dr. David Nelms, the Founder of The Timothy Initiative (TTI). He shared that one of the most significant provisions of the Gospel is that we can love others and tell others about the Gospel. The Great Commission is great, but the Great Commandment to love others as God has loved us and tell them the Good News is even greater! Dr. Alex McFarland also joined us. He's a Christian apologist, author, evangelist, and culture analyst. He emphasized that the greatest satisfaction found in the Gospel is the cross! Every other provision and satisfaction comes from what happened on the cross. People can miss the blessings because they don't understand and culture is unstable. He offered 10 Questions Every Christian is asking or soon will be (to receive: text TEN to 1-800-555-7898). Also, his latest book is called "100 Bible Questions and Answers on Prophecy and the End Times". You can listen to the highlights of today's program on the Karl and Crew Showcast.
