A sermon for Proper 7, June 22, 2025. Luke 8:26-39 Jesus and his disciples arrived at the country of the Gerasenes, which is opposite Galilee. As he stepped out on land, a man of the city who had demons met him. For a long time he had worn no clothes, and he did not live in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he fell down before him and shouted at the top of his voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me" -- for Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many times it had seized him; he was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles, but he would break the bonds and be driven by the demon into the wilds.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" He said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. They begged him not to order them to go back into the abyss. Now there on the hillside a large herd of swine was feeding; and the demons begged Jesus to let them enter these. So he gave them permission. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned. When the swineherds saw what had happened, they ran off and told it in the city and in the country. Then people came out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. Those who had seen it told them how the one who had been possessed by demons had been healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them; for they were seized with great fear. So he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but Jesus sent him away, saying, "Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." So he went away, proclaiming throughout the city how much Jesus had done for him.

The Toxic World Of Self Help | Generations Church GP Are you letting God, others, or yourself govern your thoughts? Whether you realize it or not, something, or someone, is always at the wheel of your mind. In this message, we dive into the profound truth of Romans 8:5-6, which reveals that the direction of your life is shaped by whatever is governing your thoughts. When your mind is ruled by the flesh, selfish desires, human approval, or cultural noise, it leads to anxiety, confusion, and spiritual death. But when your mind is governed by the Spirit of God, it brings life and peace. In today's world, our minds are constantly pulled in every direction, by social media comparison, the pressure to perform, or the temptation to rely on self-help solutions. Some of us are unknowingly handing the keys over to people's opinions, unresolved hurt, or the constant need for validation. Others have bought into the lie that we are our own saviors, trying to heal ourselves through self-talk and willpower. But self can't heal self. True transformation begins when we let the Holy Spirit govern our thoughts. Like driving a car, where you look is where you go. In moments of stress or crisis, your mind instinctively turns toward what it's been aligned with. So… what is your mind set on? What voice are you trusting to guide you? Alignment isn't just a concept, it's the difference between chaos and peace, confusion and clarity, bondage and freedom. This isn't just about mindset. It's about Lordship. Who's truly driving your life?

What if I told you that giving money to good causes won't necessarily change your heart? Many assume that if they invest their finances in the right places, their affections will follow. But what if the real issue isn't where our money goes, but what we treasure most? The Words of Jesus: Treasure and the HeartIn His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus offers one of the most profound insights into money and the human heart:"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21)Many interpret this to mean that if we direct our money toward good causes, such as ministries or charities, our hearts will naturally follow. And often, generosity does strengthen our connection to what we support. However, if money itself remains our treasure, even generous giving can leave our hearts tied to wealth rather than to God.What if Jesus wasn't just telling us to redirect our money but inviting us to reexamine what we treasure most? The real challenge isn't simply choosing better causes; it's choosing a better treasure. If our hearts cling to money, even when giving it away, we remain captive. But if we treasure God above all, our money will naturally reflect that devotion. The Widow's Offering: A Heart Aligned with GodConsider Jesus' observation of the widow's offering in Mark 12:"And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny." (Mark 12:41–42)The wealthy gave much more than the widow, but their giving didn't free them from money's grip. Their treasure was still rooted in their wealth.Jesus exposes a similar heart issue when He rebukes the Pharisees in Matthew 23:"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness." (Matthew 23:23)The Pharisees gave meticulously, yet their hearts were enslaved to pride and status. Their giving wasn't born from a love for God, but from a desire to maintain religious appearances.True Freedom in Treasuring GodIn contrast, the widow's tiny offering flowed from deep trust and surrender to God. She gave not to be seen, but because her greatest treasure was the One standing before her. Jesus praised her, not for the amount she gave, but because her heart fully belonged to Him.If giving alone could free us from money's hold, the Pharisees would have been the most spiritually free people of their day. But they weren't. True freedom comes not from giving more but from treasuring God most.As Pastor John Piper puts it:“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”How Do We Shift Our Hearts? So, if the issue isn't where we put our money but what we treasure, how do we shift our hearts?Recognize God as Your Greatest Treasure - Until God is our highest joy, we will always cling to lesser things.Seek First His Kingdom - When God's Kingdom is our priority, everything else—including money—falls into place.View Money As A Tool, Not A Treasure - If we treasure God, we will steward it wisely without being controlled by it.Store Up Treasures in Heaven - This means prioritizing what truly lasts—growing in Christ, loving others, and living generously. When our treasure is in God, our relationship with money changes. We give not to force our hearts to care, but because our desires are already aligned with what God cares about. We are freed from financial anxiety because our security is in God, not wealth (Matthew 6:25–34).If money is our treasure, our hearts will forever remain enslaved to it, no matter how generously we give. But if we treasure God, our hearts will be free, and our relationship with money will reflect that reality. The real question isn't, “Where is my money going?” but “What do I treasure most?” Because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.Partner with FaithFiThat's the heart behind everything we do at FaithFi. Now that I'm retired and drawing Social Security, pension, and business income, I'm wondering if I should continue to tithe. Everyone's talking about freedom. But what is it? We're told it means living without limits, but has that really brought the joy and meaning we're searching for? Romans 1 shows that casting off God doesn't lead to freedom; it leads to captivity. We become enslaved to our desires, our idols, and the pressure to define truth on our own. True freedom isn't found in autonomy but in being grounded in something greater. Like a kite held by a string, we soar not when we break free but when we're tethered to truth. Jesus said, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). Come discover the freedom you were made for—the kind that begins not in self-rule but in surrender to the One who made you.

Mark shares his personal journey from repression... to indulgence... to eventual freedom. Highlighting the moment everything changed for him he said: "If God is love, and love is self-giving, then the opposite isn't hatred—it's selfishness." This realization transformed his understanding of happiness and purpose. Here are three thought-provoking questions to discuss:How can the distortion of our natural desires lead to cultural and personal confusion, and what does it mean to “untwist” those desires in pursuit of authentic freedom?Mark Schmidt suggests that the opposite of love is not hatred but selfishness—how does this insight reshape our understanding of sin, especially in the context of modern struggles like pornography and indulgence? What role does radical trust and community play in healing from cultural malaise and reclaiming a sense of purpose, according to the vision laid out by John Paul II and St. Thérèse?Contact Jack: info@jp2renew.orgFollow Tom Hampson on SubstackFollow us and watch on X: John Paul II Renewal @JP2RenewalSubscribe to our Newly Resurrected YouTube Channel! On Rumble: JohnPaulIIRCIf you're interested in being a sponsor of the Become Who You Are Podcast, please email us at Info@JP2Renew.org Jack Latest Blog: Living on the Surface, Never Going Deep: Jenny, Jesus, Carl Jung and Bill WSupport the show

What happens when your lifestyle practice takes off faster than you ever expected?Andy Panko, founder of Tenon Financial, didn't set out to build a firm. After leaving the corporate finance world in 2019, his goal was simple: work with 50 clients, enjoy flexibility, and ease into retirement on his own terms. But within two years, he was at capacity—and suddenly facing a new question: Now what?In this episode, Andy shares how he navigated that inflection point and grew Tenon Financial without sacrificing the lifestyle he set out to protect. Rather than hiring assistants or junior staff to “scale,” he took a different route—bringing on experienced advisors with decades of prior careers who operate independently with their own client bases. The result is a lean team of three serving more clients without compromising autonomy or quality of life.Andy opens up about his approach to hiring, compensation, and why he places intentional limits on growth. “I don't want the business to consume me,” he says. “Since I started Tenon, I've never once felt like I had to go to work.”We also dive into industry-wide tensions around product sales and compensation structures. Andy, who owns an IUL policy himself but regularly calls out misleading marketing, offers a nuanced view on where insurance fits—and where it goes wrong. If you're a solo advisor wondering what comes next—or just want to hear what it looks like to grow without giving up control—this conversation is a must-listen. As Andy puts it: “When you take ‘just being about money' off the table, it's actually very liberating.”Andy's links and Social:retirementplanningeducation.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/andypanko/

True Freedom in Messiah - A Biblical Response to Deliverance Ministry Myths 25 Days of Spiritual Growth Devotional https://member.bulldozerfaith.com/product/25-days-of-spiritual-growth-devotional/In this teaching, we confront the growing errors within many modern deliverance ministries that externalize sin—labeling struggles like anger, lust, and addiction as demons to be cast out—rather than dealing with the biblical call to repentance, renewal, and spiritual growth. We explore how Scripture teaches freedom through salvation, sanctification, and Spirit-filled living, not through repeated exorcism rituals. Jesus cast out demons from unbelievers as a sign of the Kingdom, but for the born-again believer, the focus is on putting off the old nature and walking in the Spirit.Topics covered include:The truth behind so-called "spirits of anger, lust, and addiction"Why generational curses don't apply to those in ChristMisinterpretation of Mark 16:17 in modern deliverance practices. The biblical pattern of transformation through the Word, not performance-based deliverance.Anchored in verses like Galatians 5, Romans 6, and John 8:36, this message helps believers walk in true biblical freedom - not fear, theatrics, or confusion.

In one of the most raw and redemptive episodes of Ex-Psychic Saved, host Jenn Nizza welcomes friend, fellow ex-occultist, and ministry partner Jac Marino Chen for a deeply vulnerable conversation about the dark undercurrents of eating disorders, childhood trauma, and the lies of the New Age movement. From their firsthand experiences with divination, bulimia, and the desperate search for control and identity, Jen and Jac expose how the enemy disguises bondage as empowerment—and how only Christ brings true freedom. The two share their parallel journeys from deception to deliverance, offering candid reflections on the spiritual warfare behind self-destruction and how even “good” practices like yoga or crystals are gateways to deeper deception. But this isn't just a warning—it's a powerful testimony of healing. They reveal how surrendering to Jesus, immersing in God's Word, and anchoring their identity in Christ has transformed their minds, bodies, and spirits. This episode is a lifeline to anyone battling lies about their worth, struggling with food or image, or still entangled in the occult. Zarathustra transmits 5th Dimensional Quantum frequencies in each episode with transformational tools while discussing different topics to help you maintain this new frequency in your daily life.Zarathustra has created a practical system of transmitting the truth to his audience allowing transformation and freedom from suffering. Spiritual development requires an open heart. It is virtually impossible for a seeker to advance to higher consciousness if they don't love themselves. The belief system which has been ingrained in our cellular memory from childhood that we are not good enough results in a conditioned mind. The conditioned mind holds the false belief that there is something missing in our lives, that we are incomplete, that we need to gain something in order to become happy and whole, which is not true. After a life time of searching, Zarathustra has blended a practical system of Eastern and Western methods and techniques to help the Academy members to free themselves from anxiety, negative thoughts, lack of self-love and self-acceptance and destructive emotional patterns through a systematic way to raise your vibration to 5D Vibrational Frequency, which enables you to live a vibrant life of freedom and happiness. The Key Elements To Freedom:Zarathustra recognizes continuity and consistency are the key elements to freedom. In order to help you achieve your spiritual goals, it's best to have a highly effective spiritual practice, free of dogmas, false beliefs and superstition that helps you raise your vibration to 5D Vibrational Frequency as well as the ability to maintain this newly found higher level of consciousness. This translates to a life filled with inner peace, self-love and happiness which is the goal of every spiritual seeker.New knowledge and benefits are gained with each replay. Where have I been filling myself with things other than the Lord? Where have I been the unfaithful bride to the Lord? How do I rationalize your idols and areas of bondage in daily life? Do I allow myself to rest well and rest deeply?   Discussion Questions: How can we create a space in our home for people to rest? How have you experienced authentic freedom and sanctity in the “no's” of Christianity and the Commandments? What external and internal structures in different areas of your life help to sustain your freedom? How are you tempted to replace the honest work of doing your daily duty well with other good things?   Quote to Ponder: “But they lacked the garden-sanctuary of Eden. The Israelites were going to need a place where God could walk and talk with his children. Also, they had a long journey ahead through the desert to the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey (an image of Eden), so their meeting-place with God had to be portable. Therefore, Moses went back up the mountain to get instructions for the tabernacle. The tabernacle would be a portable Eden, a place of communion and rest.” (Jesus and the Jubilee, John Bergsma, Page 38)   Scripture for Lectio: “Every fifty years, the Day of Atonement also marked the beginning of the jubilee year. God commanded Moses on the day of atonement you shall send abroad the trumpet throughout all your land. And you shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants; it shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his family.” (Leviticus 25: 9–10)   Sponsor - Camp Wojtyla: Are you looking for a transformative experience for your middle school or high school student?
