The former baker turned businessman comes from a well-known family of successful Liverpool restauranteurs, and told us about branching out on his own with a venue based in one of Liverpool’s most iconic streets. 

Jack Foster is the Founder & Director of Liverpool-based roastery & coffee shop Crosby Coffee. From experimenting with his first roasts in a popcorn maker at his mum's house to a successful and growing business, he shares his entrepreneurial success story. 

Dean Garnett is a pro MMA fighter (9-2-1) from Liverpool who featured in a BBC Three documentary on weight cutting before a fight in 2017. He is also a qualified coach, and founded Aspire MMA gym in Liverpool alongside his business partner. Dean returns to fighting on November 15th in Bahrain. He tells us about his career, what needs to change to make MMA safer and his strong views on a range of other issues such as vaccinations and the global elite.

Simon Mason is a former “chemist” to some of the biggest bands of the 90s and became the go-to guy for class A drugs to stars during the peak Britpop era. He was sexually abused as a child at a Catholic boarding school, which sent him on a downward spiral resulting in him becoming dependent on heroin & crack either side of his brush with rock n roll stardom. In 2013, he published his powerful memoir; “Too High, Too Far, Too Soon” & now fronts a band, The Hightown Pirates, alongside recovering addicts.

Ellis Barrie is a chef who, alongside his brother Liam gradually built a former Anglesey caravan site greasy spoon cafe into renowned restaurant The Marram Grass. Previously a Great British Menu finalist, Ellis is part of the Ready, Steady, Cook reboot in 2020 and the Barrie Bros are set to enjoy a homecoming-of-sorts in Autumn 2019 with the opening of their yet-to-be-named second restaurant in Liverpool’s historic Royal Albert Dock.

In our 10th episode (high five!) we spoke to The Mind PT aka Phil Steele; a sports psychologist and therapist who has worked with top Premier League footballers, MMA fighters and boxing stars such as World Champion Callum Smith, and Scouse heavyweight David Price. Phil taught us some life hacks about keeping a healthy mind in testing times, tips for a good night's sleep and shared his inspirational story from leaving an office job that left him unfulfilled to live his dream.

In this episode we sat down with former WBC Cruiserweight champion, and one of Britain's best-known sportsmem, Tony Bellew. 'The Bomber' opened-up about his career highs and lows, retirement, how big-money fights really get made and when the tabloid press tried to stitch him up in a nightclub. He also talked poignantly about fatherhood, fame and growing-up in Wavertree. Not just one for fight fans, this was Tony at his raw, honest and fascinating best...as ever, he pulled no punches.

In this episode we spoke to the UK's most feared comedian AKA Frankie Allen, who went viral last year after decades touring the country as a jobbing stand-up. Frankie was joined by his manager, and son, Will for a fascinating glimpse into his life, experiences on the road and second chance at success.

In this episode we spoke to PJ Smith who is one of the biggest talents in the UK's spoken-word performance scene with the edgy character Roy. A former alcoholic, PJ told us his raw, poignant, funny and inspirational personal story. He also gives us a great insight into the increasingly must-see La Violette Societa gigs he helps host across the country. In his own words he talks about "Roy, Daddy issues, darkness, desperation, writing, Violette and all that. I do go on a bit, like." We're glad he did.

This week we spoke to Clemens Wangerin, who has been part of the games industry since 1993. After moving to Liverpool in 1997 to work at local company Psygnosis, he became Studio Director when it merged with Sony Computer Entertainment. Since then has been involved in several technology start-ups in the city. He is currently Managing Director of vTime, an innovation company focusing on Virtual Reality based in the Baltic Creative hub. He is an industry expert in games, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and mobile with a track record of leading exciting start ups, new markets and raising investment. It was a fascinating chat with someone who helped put Liverpool on the global gaming map.

We chatted with Billy Moore, whose autobiographical account of imprisonment in a Thai jail, 'A Prayer Before Dawn', was turned into a 2017 Hollywood film starring Joe Cole. Billy told us how a tough upbringing in Liverpool led to addiction and crime before he moved to Bangkok for a clean break only to fall foul of the law again. He eventually won his release by competing in prison Thai Boxing matches, and along the way witnessed murder, corruption and even briefly converted to Islam. It was a brutally raw and honest conversation with someone who has a very powerful story to tell. Enjoy!

This week we sat down with Dr Emilia Thompson - a nutritionist, online trainer and academic to talk about working out, keeping fit and staying in shape physically and mentally. Emilia blew away some bad bro-science, corrected some training myths and gave us an insight into what it takes to be an elite female bodybuilder (and why she walked away at the top). There were also great tips on losing/gaining weight, and striking the right balance between discipline and fun. Enjoy listening!

In our third episode we spoke to Steph Johnson AKA Scouse Bird Problems, the woman behind the hugely popular social media accounts and online retailer. Steph revealed how she started the Twitter account, and built it into a successful business while outing herself as the eponymous Scouse Bird along the way. Now with a shop, salon and podcast she's going from strength to strength. But it hasn't all been easy. She opened up about spirituality, struggles with trolls and anxiety.

In our second episode we sat down with Jonny Lacey and Cole Fraser from Bongo's Bingo to find out how they transformed a pub quiz into a global phenomenon. The lads had us in stitches throughout this manic, utterly honest and Buckfast-fuelled insight into the Bongo Empire (Long May It Reign.)
