The WBC approved Alvarez's move up to cruiserweight so he can take on current champion Ilunga "Junior" Makabu. Details about the fight are not yet known, though it is expected to take place in May and could happen in Makabu's native Democratic Republic of Congo, per ESPN."I know ... what he has done with the heavyweights he spars with, and that is why we asked for the fight," Canelo's trainer and manager Eddy Reynoso said, via ESPN Deportes' Salvador Rodriguez. "We know that [Makabu] is strong, but Canelo can beat him. ... Many may say that it is crazy, but they also said that it was crazy when Canelo was junior middleweight champion and we were looking for middleweights, super middleweight, light heavyweights."I have a lot of confidence in Canelo. He is very strong and has many qualities, and I know that he is going to win that fight." The WBC is also set to move the cruiserweight limit down from 200 to 190 pounds.Join this channel to get access to perks:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcKT39KR_e3ZliHe4cyC06A/joinOne Free Month of Dazn On TBV http://bit.ly/ThaBoxingVoicexDAZNhttps://www.patreon.com/ThaboxingvoiceBUY THA BOXING VOICE T-SHIRT HERE http://thaboxingvoice.com/storePLEASE SUPPORT!!! On this edition of Across The Park extra, Millsy and Judgy are joined via zoom by former WBC Cruiserweight Champion of the world and huge Evertonian, Tony Bellew. Tony has the lads in stitches with tales of growing up as a "rebellious" Evertonian, inspired by his older brother, to memories of the two infamous "great escapes" in 1994 and 1998. Tony also spoke about how he went from being a regular Evertonian, to training at Finch Farm, as part of a special relationship he developed with his beloved club. Tony tells us about the time he first met David Moyes, which almost led to him getting into a fight and how Moyes helped him meet Dave Billows, his fitness coach, who became a huge influence on his career. No punches are pulled in Tony’s opinion on how special David Moyes’ time was at the club, his relationship and love for Bill Kenwright and how he feels the inside of the club changed for the worse during a period of changing managers and personnel. We ask Tony about "that special night" at Goodison Park when he captured the WBC Cruiserweight title in dramatic fashion against Ilunga Makabu and just how much pressure he felt personally in fighting at the place he loved most. This is a fantastic insight into the real Anthony Bellew. His love for his family, Everton and appreciation of the opportunities he has had through boxing shine through with a side of typical "scouse humour". Tony is a shining example that dreams can come true but he is also humble and honest enough to concede that he has had his fair share of tough moments and this note, the three blues share their own recognition of the significance of mental health in modern society before signing off. For any Football or Boxing fans, this is a must listen.
Tony Bellew, former WBC Cruiserweight world champion, swaps the gloves for a deck of Colin Murray’s 52 cards. Talking about the inspirational man who forged his career, the greatest boxer he met in the ring, the bizarre encounter with Tyson Fury in a hotel and of course, his former nemesis David Haye - revealing the one question he wants to ask him…. The answer is coming up in our next episode!
