How can we learn to be at ease in our bodies so that we can be fully “in the moment” during sex? Anxiety about body image is one of the biggest obstacles to a happy, fulfilled sex life. Many people seek therapy to help them relax and enjoy sex with their partner, others struggle on in low-sex or no-sex relationships.  In this classic episode, Andrew talks to KATE MOYLE, a psychosexual and relationship therapist, about the knots we tie ourselves up in over how we look. Our culture's esteem for youth and beauty, (expressed in social media images of physical perfection) can make it very hard to inhabit our normal, imperfect bodies. Yet the self-confidence we need to enjoy sex is grounded in how we feel, not how we look.  As well as her work as a therapist, Kate Moyle is host of The Sexual Wellness Sessions Podcast, and also appeared on BBC Three's Sex on the Couch. Kate helps people to work through challenges in their sex lives and relationships; moving towards a place of sexual health, happiness and wellbeing. Her podcast hosts discussions that focus on normalising sex and relationships talk, and tackling the topics that are often left out of mainstream conversation; and she is a regular media contributor on the topic of sex and relationships. We're still here, folks, and we're going to be here until the wheels fall off this thing. Kris doesn't have a recommendation this week, but Tara has come through with not one but two Christmas romances. Official Recommendations From Tara: A New Leash on Love and Frosted by the Girl Next Door by Jaime Clevenger and Aurora Rey This week, Tara is recommending two Christmas romances that take place in a small Colorado town and run in parallel with each other. A New Leash on Love by Jaime Clevenger and Aurora Rey (Bella Books) is about an interior designer who's back in the hometown she hates, only to fall for Shawn. Shawn is as sweet as the cupcakes her sister bakes for the family business and can't help falling for Kit right back. Frosted by the Girl Next Door by Aurora Rey and Jaime Clevenger (Bold Strokes Books) features Shawn's sister Tara falling for Kit's friend Casey. Casey's new to town and opens a sex shop next door to their cupcake store. Is the shop a town scandal or the best thing that's happened to it in a long time? Read it to find out! In a conversation with Stella O'Malley, founder and director of Genspect, Andrew Gold @andrewgoldheretics explores why people—even very intelligent ones—are drawn to cult-like beliefs. He shares stories from his investigative work, including his study of exorcisms in Argentina, and connects these experiences to how modern groups can sometimes take on cult-like behaviors. Through his work with former cult members, Andrew explains the challenges of leaving these intense belief systems and the importance of questioning groupthink in our lives. Andrew Gold is a British journalist, author, and YouTuber known for his investigative work on cults and extreme ideologies. This podcast is a deeply personal one for me. Not just because I resonate so much with Jassa and his experience of not having a true sense of identity, but because I'm expecting a child with my wife late this year who will be of mixed heritage. My wife is Italian and I'm Indian so our child will be both Indian and Italian, rather than half Indian and half Italian. I never really thought of being half something and half something else as ever really something to pay attention to, but recording this podcast with Jassa and reading his story has made a real impact on me.In the same way John Agard educated us all with his wildly popular poem “half caste”, about the impact of words on people's sense of worth, I feel Jassa has educated me on the use of my words and thoughts, regardless of whether there is ill intent or malice behind them. Words mean so much and I'd never want anyone, let alone my unborn child, to feel anything other than a whole person.Jassa Ahluwalia is a British actor, writer, filmmaker and trade unionist. Born in Coventry to a white English mum and a brown Punjabi dad in 1990, he attended school in Leicester and was raised in an extended family environment. He spoke English in the playground, Punjabi with his grandparents, and spent various summer holidays in India. He came to prominence as Rocky in the hit BBC Three series Some Girls, followed by starring roles in Unforgotten, Ripper Street, and Peaky Blinders. He's also one of the funniest comedians I've ever come across on social media. Please watch some of his sketches online!Jassa created the hashtag #BothNotHalf to explore mixed identity in light of his own British-Indian heritage. How has the porn industry shifted over the past 20 years, and how is it that Hollywood still gets it wrong when it comes to intimacy? What are the most common fantasies that women have based on their top porn interests? What about men/other genders? If I identify as a feminist and yet I'm super attracted to porn that involves dominance and submission, and maybe even some rough sex, can I still be a feminist while thinking this is hot? How can gang bang scenes (and gang bangs in general) be empowering? Can the woman receiving all the D be in control? About our guest: Erika Lust is an award-winning indie erotic filmmaker who creates sex-positive adult cinema by portraying relatable characters and realistic hot sex, going beyond gender stereotypes and harmful fetishization to offer a ground-breaking alternative to mass-produced mainstream porn. Over the past 20 years, the Erika Lust brand has gone from strength to strength. Erika has directed 6 feature films and series, over 130 short films, and produced around 180 more. In 2015, Erika gave her essential TEDx talk 'It's Time for Porn to Change'. Her story was featured in the Netflix documentary series 'Hot Girls Wanted: Turned On (“Women on Top”)', directed by Rashida Jones, and 'Principles of Pleasure', directed by Niharika Desai. In 2019, Erika was named one of the BBC 100 Women's most influential women of the year, and in 2022, her alternative vision of porn was featured in The New York Times and in the BBC Three & HULU series 'Planet Sex with Cara Delevingne'.  Want to see for yourself? What she thought would be a straightforward entry into adulthood turns out to be an hilariously twisted adventure. We like to think of Pilot TV as the height of professionalism — a finely-honed product in which some of TV journalism's finest minds come together to share their wisdom. We like to think that. Evidence here to the contrary, though, as this one is an absolute shambles. James and Kay arrive unprepared, Boyd decides he'd much rather work with Helen and Dan, plus there's a whole thing about musicals. Honestly, it's a miracle we got through it at all. Still, we did find time to watch Black Cake on Disney+ (well, some of us), engage in some witchery with Domino Day on BBC Three, and catch up with Here We Go (again).

False beliefs about what does and doesn't constitute rape are more deeply ingrained in young people than we might think. The Crown Prosecution Service has conducted research into what these misconceptions are, and the impact they're having on the justice system when it comes to rape convictions. Anita Rani is joined by Baljit Ubhey from the CPS and Andrea Simon from End Violence Against Women to hear more.Julia Bullock is an American classical singer. Her debut solo album, Walking in the Dark, was nominated for a Grammy award. Next week, she is bringing her mixed-media project History's Persistent Voice to London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. It shines a light on the words, work and experiences of Black American and British artists, and includes new songs commissioned from leading Black women composers. She joins Anita to discuss her music, her influences and her passions. Journalist Helen Carroll faced a backlash online when she revealed she pays her son £40 a month to load the dishwasher. This sparked a discussion - were you paid as a child to do household chores? Or do you think children should just be doing things around the house anyway without money? Parenting coach and psychologist Sue Atkins joins Anita to discuss. Domino Day is a brand new series coming to BBC Three which combines the world of modern dating with the world of the supernatural. Series writer Lauren Sequeira speaks to Anita about why the show's themes of modern relationships and female empowerment are so important to her, and why she wanted to show witches in a whole new light.
