In April 2019, the quiet Welsh island of Anglesey was rocked by a crime so bizarre and brutal it seemed almost fictional.74-year-old Gerald Corrigan was outside his remote coastal home when he was struck by a single crossbow bolt - a weapon more associated with medieval warfare than modern-day Wales. What initially appeared to be a tragic accident quickly unraveled into something far more chilling. Behind the peaceful setting lay a tangled web of deception, secrecy and calculated violence - and Gerald was caught right in the middle of it.Join my Patreon community at patreon.com/britishmurders for exclusive perks, including early access to ad-free episodes, bonus episodes and content, exciting giveaways, and welcome goodies!Follow me on social media:Facebook | British Murders with Stuart BluesInstagram | @britishmurdersTikTok | @britishmurdersJoin the private Facebook group:British Murders Podcast - Discussion GroupVisit my website:britishmurders.comIntro music:⁣David John Brady - 'Throw Down the Gauntlet'⁣davidjohnbrady.comDisclaimer:The case discussed in this podcast episode is real and represents the worst day in many people's lives. The Baptist Union of Wales has recently recognised a new type of minister. A 'Category 7 Minister' has a licence to pioneer. It may not be clear what a Pioneer Minister does, but there are more of them than we might think, across all the Christian denominations. For today's programme, Rosa Hunt travels to Anglesey and interviews 5 people involved in pioneering ministry. We meet the Reverend George Bearwood in Holyhead, who as well as being an Anglican vicar, has his own heavy metal radio show; Rev Deb Stammers, a Baptist minister in Holyhead, who is also a pioneer worker in the small village of Llanerchymedd; John Hay, who wrote a feasibility study about the future of Methodist churches on the Island; Hywel Meredydd, who planted a new church nearly 50 years ago in Llangefni, in a church formally pastored by Christmas Evans; and Rachel Radbourne, who leads a growing church for young families.

Show NotesWelcome back to The Angel Mystic podcast!I'm Amanda Tooke, and today we're diving deep into the fascinating topic of Angel numbers and what they truly mean for you. I get fired up about this subject because there's so much misinformation and commercialisation surrounding it. Angel numbers, those repetitive sequences like 111 or 222 that pop up on clocks, receipts, and license plates, are indeed powerful messages from the Universe. But their meanings are personal to you.In this episode, I'll explain how to interpret these signs in a way that resonates with your unique journey rather than relying on generic definitions. We'll explore how your Angels communicate through numbers, feathers, rainbows, or other signs, and I'll share practical steps to deepen your connection with them. You'll learn how to pause, reflect, trust your intuition, and build a relationship with your Angels.Your signs are dynamic and personal, not something that can be predefined. By the end of this episode, you'll have the tools to interpret your signs authentically and strengthen your spiritual connection. If you're eager to deepen your relationship with your Angels, consider joining me on our Angels in Anglesey retreat this November. Church Leadership – local, national and global Anthony and Ness discuss the challenges and opportunities of leading a church and a network of churches. Ness expressed her gratitude for being able to lead a local church and a network, as it allows her to connect with the complexities of church leadership and pass on her experiences.   They also touched on the importance of humility, love, and grace in navigating pastoral issues within the next generation in church.     Church Leadership Models and Adaptation Anthony and Ness discuss the future of church leadership and models. They agreed that the church should not professionalise leadership but should instead train and invest in leadership gifts. They also discussed the importance of understanding the context and culture to which they are called.   Ness mentioned that Pioneer Church does not have a one-size-fits-all model, but rather adapts to the specific setting and context of each church or church plant. They also touched on the success of a bilingual model at Lighthouse Church, Anglesey. Anthony shared his positive experience visiting Lighthouse Church with his wife Zoe.      Embracing Spiritual Gifts in Ministry They discuss the importance of embracing the spiritual gifts in their ministry. Ness emphasised the need for a high view of the spiritual gifts, proper training, and boundaries to ensure their effective use. She also highlighted the importance of creating space for these gifts and modeling good practice. They also stressed the significance of holding a high view of Scripture and honoring God's word and expressed a growing conviction about the centrality of the Word of God in their ministry.      Bible Reading as Discipleship Tool Ness shared a story about a 22-year-old electrician who became a Christian after reading the King James version of the Bible. This experience inspired Ness to give away more Bibles and to encourage people to read the Bible with others. To facilitate this, they placed a QR code sticker in the front of the Bibles, directing people to a link for meeting up with someone to read the Bible together.     Preparing for the Upcoming Launch Event Anthony and Ness discussed the upcoming LAUNCH event in June, with Ness expressing her excitement to be part of it. Anthony revealed the list of speakers, including Chip Ingram, Aaron Pierce and many others, for what they believe will be an important of gathering in preparing the church for the future.   Ness shared her belief that they are in a John the Baptist era, calling for the church to prepare and get ready for the coming of the King. Anthony agreed, stating that this is a year of expansion and not a time to hold back.      Spiritual Guidance for Younger Generations Anthony and Ness discussed the need for spiritual guidance and mentorship for the younger generation, particularly Gen. Z. Ness emphasized the importance of creating community and providing practical skills, such as cooking, to help young adults navigate life's challenges. They also discussed the potential of younger leaders stepping up into leadership roles and the need for churches to serve and support their communities.   Ness prayed for the group, asking for trust in God's plans and guidance, and for the power of the Holy Spirit to align them with God's work.      Upcoming Launch Event and Key Leaders Go to Launchcatalyst.org now to book in to the gathering Anthony and Ness discussed, which will focus on the theme of the "High Impact Church".   LAUNCH will be held on the 9th and 10th of June in Wigan and the 12th to 13th of June in Gold Hill Baptist, Buckinghamshire.

Thousands of Christmas travellers hoping to cross the Irish Sea by ferry face disruption due to Storm Darragh damage. The port of Holyhead – which provides the main ferry connection between Great Britain and Ireland – has been closed since last weekend, with no sailings to or from Dublin. Normally Stena Line and Irish Ferries have four daily ferries each way between the Anglesey and the Irish capital. Hundreds of motorists and foot passengers use the link each day, with “Rail & Sail” fares offered from stations in Wales, England and Scotland to Dublin. Holyhead-Dublin is also the main freight connection between Great Britain and the Republic. The port was damaged during “two separate berthing incidents” during Storm Darragh – the wild weather that swept across Wales on 6 and 7 December. No injuries were reported. Stena Line and Irish Ferries have cancelled all sailings between Dublin and Holyhead until Friday 20 December at the earliest. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics

Tacitus is the great historian of imperial Rome. His writing is beautiful, unsettling, extraordinarily persuasive. We know many of his likes and dislikes about people and politics, but facts about his personal life? Not so much. His memoir of Agricola tells us much fascinating detail about Roman Britain: that it's an island (the Roman fleet sailed all the way round, just to check), that it's very close to Spain (with only Ireland in between); that invading Anglesey was a great victory for the Romans. He notes that it rains a lot, but omits to mention the Druids. He is also, he says, dedicated to writing impartially. Natalie may disagree. Who needs evidence when you have Tacitus' persuasive prose? It's not as if we can cross-check, because so little of the written record of the time survives to us. Natalie's guest, (modern) historian Dan Snow, finds this hard to fathom. Her other guest, Professor Llewelyn Morgan, knows it's unwise to lament the lost work. We should value what remains and hope that some new bits of Tacitus may appear in the future. And it turns out that by boat, Britain IS actually close to Spain. Travelling overland was hard going in Tacitus' day, so compared to that, the sea journey to Spain was easy.Rock star mythologist' and reformed stand-up Natalie Haynes is obsessed with the ancient world. Here she explores key stories from ancient Rome and Greece that still have resonance today. They might be biographical, topographical, mythological or epic, but they are always hilarious, magical and tragic, mystifying and revelatory. And they tell us more about ourselves now than seems possible of stories from a couple of thousand years ago.Producer...Mary Ward-Lowery

In today's episode I talk to Richard Bland. Richard is the founder of the charity Bear Force. Bear Force the charity was established in 2023. The charity's goal is to provide tools for helping young children's mental health and assisting caregivers and schools. Bear Force and Bear Force Buddies aim to build positive mental health foundations from a very early age. He spent many years associated with the RAF Valley in Anglesey and did a lot of charity work with them, through his passion for aviation photography. Sadly by a twist of fate, Richard lost his son Drew to suicide, which turned his life around completely. At that time he had a teddy bear flying all over the world for charity. He was persuaded to write a children's book about his adventures, which was supported by the RAF and RAF Valley and it has sold thousands of copies. That took him on a different direction and he was introduced to Berni Hollywood, the entrepreneur and charity guru. Berni was embarking on a Transatlantic Boat race and wanted to take the teddy bear with him, which was the beginning of a successful collaboration. Today the charity has support from some of the most well known companies such as British Airways, Rolls Royce and the Red Arrows. AB Bear also began accompanying high profile people on their journeys, including H.R.H The Prince Of Wales. Richard talks about the tragic loss of his son, a deeply painful experience that profoundly impacted his life and his determination to transform his grief into a force for good, leading him to establish the charity Bear Force. Through Bear Force, Richard aims to provide support and resources for mental health, preventing similar tragedies from happening to others. His dedication to this cause is a testament to his love for his son and his commitment to making a difference. #welshwitch #welshwitchcraft #Swyngyfaredd Join us for an enlightening livestream discussion on "Welsh Folk Witchcraft," featuring Mhara Starling, a prominent figure in the resurgence and preservation of Welsh witchcraft traditions. This interview delves deep into the heart of Wales' rich magical heritage, exploring its unique practices and beliefs and the significance of its landscape in contemporary witchcraft. Mhara Starling was born in North Wales, raised on the Isle of Anglesey, and is a native Welsh speaker. She is a practitioner of Swyngyfaredd, a magical practice rooted in Welsh culture, and she runs her own coven today in the Welsh marches. In her native language, Mhara refers to herself as a Swynydd, a historical term for practitioners of folk magic which aided their community. The closest English translation to Swynydd would be a Welsh Folk Witch. She is also a published author, and spends her time delivering workshops and talks at conferences, museums, and online. This discussion will not only offer insights into the practical aspects of Welsh folk magic. Still, it will also address the broader implications of preserving indigenous magical traditions in a globalised world. You should expect to learn about the role of folklore, myth, and legend in shaping the practices and beliefs of Welsh witchcraft and how these elements contribute to a deeper understanding of the natural and supernatural world. One of the UK's most popular vocalists and broadcasters, Aled Jones MBE, today announces the release of his brand-new album which not only celebrates 40 years in show business but reveals some previously unreleased tracks, recently unearthed by Aled himself. Whilst visiting his family home in Anglesey earlier this year, Aled began reminiscing over the 40 years of memorabilia his parents have collected throughout his career. They literally had everything, even a collection of multi-coloured shirts and bow ties. Aled's mother explained they had been handmade for him by a BBC employee for a series he made in 1983, at the age of 13. This prompted Aled to go and find the original programme. He began to go through the footage and discovered recordings, which have never been released or even heard since the original broadcast 40 years ago. The album includes brand new arrangements of those classics including Ave Maria and Bright Eyes.Aptly titled, ‘One Voice – Full Circle', the new record is the fourth (and probably final, says Aled!) instalment in his utterly unique ‘One Voice' series in which, through the magic of technology, Aled is able to duet with his younger self: man and boy, baritone and treble. Here, album highlights include ‘Sailing', The Sutherland Brothers' 1972 track best known as a hit for Rod Stewart, Handel's ‘Where'er you Walk', from the musical drama Semele, Welsh love song ‘Bugeilo'r Gwenith Gwyn' and traditional ballad ‘Scarborough Fair'. Aled even tracked down the original 80's guitarist, Dylan Fowler, to re-record his part for this new recording. TRACKLIST:1. Bright Eyes 2. Sea Fever 3. Scarborough Fair 4. Where ‘ere You Walk 5. Dr Sian Williams leads a team charting the story of the Welsh codebreaker whose naked and decomposing body was found inside a bag in his bath at his flat in Central London in August 2010.Mystery still surrounds how and why Gareth Williams, from Anglesey, died - not least how he ended up inside the North Face sports bag in the first place. There were no fingerprints on the bag, on the padlock or in the bath.Gareth's death continues to baffle police with speculation as to the cause ranging from a sex game gone wrong to involvement of a rogue state, possibly Russia. The coroner Fiona Wilcox, who led the inquest into the 31 year old's death, gave a narrative verdict, concluding it was probable Gareth had been unlawfully killed but because there was no clear evidence she couldn't deliver an official verdict of unlawful killing.Gareth Williams normally worked for GCHQ in Cheltenham but had been seconded to the Secret Intelligence Service at MI6 in London. It's still unknown what the exact nature of his work was and evidence by the secret intelligence service at his inquest was minimal.Gareth Williams had not been seen by family or work colleagues for over a week when his body was found and it was only when his sister raised the alarm that MI6 contacted police who carried out a ‘welfare call' at his home in Pimlico. When officers entered his flat they found the heating was on full, (which was unusual for the middle of August) and this may have caused issues for pathologists investigating exactly how Gareth died.In this programme Sian and the team dig deeper into the story. We hear conflicting evidence from experts who attempted up to 300 times to lock themselves inside a North Face sports bag.We delve into some of the evidence not reported widely from the inquest into Gareth's death, we hear more about what his work at MI6 may have actually entailed and we find out some more about Gareth the child genius who went on to be recruited by the intelligence services because of his brilliant mind as a mathematician and codebreaker.Experts give their views on what may have happened to him. We delve some more into the various theories including possible Russian involvement - and we ask whether 13 years on, with notable improvements in DNA gathering procedures, if it's time to re-open the investigation into his death and to finally bring closure for the family and justice for Gareth.Among those Sian and the team meet over the series – Marina Litvinenko, widow of murdered Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko and former KGB agents as well as people who have worked for the British intelligence services and senior police officers who oversaw the enquiry into Gareth's death.Death of A Codebreaker is presented by Sian Williams with contributions from Dyfan Rees, Tracy Cardwell, Ashley Byrne, Wayne Wright and Lewis Allsopp. The series is produced by Wayne Wright. Daniel Renfrew is a typical American sixteen-year-old. His main gripe when the story opens is that his dad insists on home schooling even though Daniel would much prefer attending the local high school with his friends. When we meet him, Daniel is at the local shopping mall, where a local cop is hassling him as a potential truant. After side-stepping that threat, Daniel returns home to find his dad under assault from a sword-carrying stranger. Dad tosses Daniel a strange device and orders him to say “the bedtime rhyme.” Against his better judgment, Daniel complies. Next thing he knows, he's in a pine forest he doesn't recognize and has no idea what to do next. He screams for assistance, which brings out a very grumpy helper who self-identifies as Sam. Only then does Daniel learn that he comes from a family of time-jumpers, and he's landed in 1066. He's stuck in the past, not knowing whether his dad is dead or alive. And although his eccentric education has included all kinds of “weird” skills like sword play and fire building, Daniel is far from prepared for life in the eleventh century. Daniel and Sam's second adventure, The Celtic Deception, takes them to late Roman Britain, ca. 60 AD. The provincial governor has decided to make a stand against the Celts, especially the Druids—perceived as powerful sources of popular rebellion by the Roman army. The island now called Anglesey, off the coast of modern-day Wales, has become a sanctuary for Celts fleeing the invaders, so that becomes the governor's target. Daniel and Sam must scramble to discover their mission, never mind fix it—all while trying to protect the people who have taken them in.
