Bewoners in Amsterdam-Zuidoost overspoelen de omgevingsdienst van de gemeente Amsterdam met bezwaarschriften tegen de komst van een groot datacenter van Equinix. Dat meldt de Telegraaf. Volgens de krant maken de bewoners zich vooral zorgen om de milieu-impact van het datacenter. De omgevingsdienst wil nog niet ingaan op de zaak. Verder wil Amazon-oprichter Jeff Bezos mede-eigenaar van Liverpool FC worden en heeft de Efteling een nieuwe high-tech 'attractie'. Niels Kooloos vertelt erover in deze Tech Update. In de zienswijzen, zoals de documenten heten waarin de bewoners hun mening over het datacenter kunnen delen, schrijven bewoners onder andere dat de Drinkwaterwet wordt overtreden met de bouw van het datacenter van Equinix. Het datacenter zou 274 miljoen liter drinkwater per jaar verbruiken en uiteindelijk zelfs een miljard liter. Ook stellen de bewoners dat het 'in directe strijd met de maatschappelijke doelen van de Omgevingswet' is om de bouw van een datacenter boven de wettelijke taak en maatschappelijke opgave van de overheid om voldoende woningen te bouwen is. Hoewel het datacenter van Equinix een groot beroep gaat doen op het al overspannen stroomnet, werd de vergunning voor de bouw nog vóór het verbod op nieuwe datacenters van de gemeente Amsterdam aangevraagd. Daardoor kan het plan alsnog doorgaan, hoewel de omgevingsdienst nog wel een definitief besluit moet nemen over de vergunning. Dat wordt in ieder geval na 17 augustus pas gedaan, omdat bewoners tot die datum hebben om hun zienswijzen te delen. Bezos wil mede-eigenaar van Liverpool FC worden Jeff Bezos wil samen met Facebook-mede-oprichter Eduardo Saverin en investeerder Amit Bhatia mede-eigenaar van voetbalclub Liverpool FC worden. Dat meldt SkyNews. Het drietal is uit op een belang van een derde in de club. Later deze week wordt de deal waarschijnlijk bevestigd door de eigenaar van de club: Fenway Sports Group. Efteling krijgt een nieuwe 'attractie' Bezoekers van de Efteling kunnen vanaf woensdag in een nieuwe 'attractie' stappen, als is het geen wilde achtbaan of sprookjesachtige tour. Het gaat om een nieuwe buslijn van vervoerder Arrive, die volledig bediend gaat worden door een zelfrijdende bus. Die stopt langs de hotels van het attractiepark en is gratis te gebruiken. Achter het stuur van de zelfrijdende bus zit nog wel een chauffeur, maar die zit er alleen om een oogje in het zeil te houden. De zelfrijdende bus is nog wel een pilot van Arriva. Vanaf woensdag rijdt de bus acht weken lang van woensdag tot en met zondag in de ochtend- en avonduren. Daarna wordt er besloten of de bus blijft. Sports play a large role in how countries display their soft power, but it can often be confused for cooperation. Indeed all power is contested and soft power is no exception, and the contest is clear when two national teams meet in a sports contest. Examples of soft power interactions in sports include the US beating the USSR in hockey in the 1980 Winter Games or the Soviets defeating the US in basketball at the 1972 Olympics during the height of the Cold War. No sport, however, garners more international interest than soccer (or what the rest of the world calls football).
