Building a Company That Doesn't Depend on You Naveh Ben Dror is the co-founder and CEO of Spikerz, a startup protecting the social media and digital accounts of brands and public figures from increasingly sophisticated attacks. Spikerz works with more than 100 customers, including major global brands, athletes and celebrities, and has raised $7 million. Naveh is 30. But his education in entrepreneurship started long before Spikerz. He was born into a company Naveh grew up with two entrepreneurial parents who built a sports distribution business together. Business wasn't something that happened at an office. It happened at home. At six, he was helping unpack boxes in the warehouse. Friday night conversations included exchange rates and deals. His mother went back to work three days after giving birth because the business needed her. "I grew up into a world where business is part of the family." The problem that found them Spikerz didn't begin with three founders sitting in a room trying to invent a startup idea. Naveh was working in digital marketing when he got a call at 1:00 in the morning. Someone had taken over the company's account. Everyone had been kicked out. Nobody knew what to do. Naveh called a friend with an intelligence background and asked a simple question: "How come nobody protects this?" They assumed somebody did. Nobody did. "The ideation phase hit us like a lightning strike." AI changed the attack Naveh shares the story of a social media manager at one of the world's largest football clubs. The attack began with a personalized LinkedIn message from what appeared to be a UEFA recruiter. The recruiter's profile looked real. The job description matched. The landing page was built specifically for him. He entered his password. The attackers reached accounts with more than 70 million followers and used them for a crypto scam. "You can become a phishing attacker from your bedroom... for fun if you wanted to or just gain a few bucks." What stays after this episode Naveh grew up watching entrepreneurship up close. Not the mythology of it. The work. The bad years. The personal price. Now he's building Spikerz in much the same way. Not by needing to have every answer himself. By learning quickly, bringing the right people together, and trusting the team to get to a better answer than any one person could alone. Endurance gets you through the difficult parts. But you don't build something meaningful alone.

The last six days has seen the departure of fan favorite and Designated Player, Manu Garcia. The arrival of the fourth most expensive player in MLS history in Andre Luiz. A rumored even more expensive transfer of Nico Fernandez Mercau.But Saturday night may be the biggest news yet. Fabrizio Romano and Tom Bogert are reporting that Dejan Joveljic is moving within the conference to the Seattle Sounders! You'd think it'd be a massive transfer fee, but instead it's only $6 million for one of the best goal scorers in Major League Soccer. Yes, it's a 50 percent profit after only 18 months, but it's a stunner.We go through all the reasons this could be happening and try to make sense of the news. Did Dejan want out? Did he not like how the Manu saga went down this week? Sheena did live sleuthing on the podcast and noticed he'd been absent from their social media all week. When David Lee told us midweek that teams are calling about their players, it seems clear Dejan was always the answer, and he may have already been negotiating at that time.Beyond that, is Dejan just not a system fit for Lee and Rapha Wicky? Or perhaps Lee just wants his guys. The typical starting lineup only has two players that were around more than 11 months ago in Jake Davis and Zorhan Bassong. Is the General Allocation Money (GAM) just too much to pass up?We go through all the permutations. And we talk about what comes next. More Designated Players have to be arriving, right? We also went through all the big points from David Lee's press conference and tried to figure out what DPs Lee could sign. I threw out Cucho Hernandez as a former player who did great in MLS and Sheena went a lot more out of left field with USA-loving Erling Haaland. It's nonsense, but it least it was fun nonsense.Speaking of DPs, we talk about new signing Andre Luiz, the rumored transfer for Nico Fernandez and all the other fallout of the week for Sporting KC. It's weird to record a day before a game, but the news just became too much.
