From London's nightclub scene to global handstand workshops, Miles Mortensen didn't find yoga through flexibility or discipline. He found it because he was struggling, and it changed the way he related to his mind, his body and his life.In part one of this conversation, we sit down with international teacher and movement educator Miles Mortensen to talk about the real reason many people start yoga, and why the practice isn't actually about poses at all.Miles shares how yoga entered his life during a period of anxiety, body image struggles and burnout, not as a fitness routine, but as a way to understand himself. What began as a coping tool eventually became a lifelong exploration of movement, teaching and self awareness. We also dive deep into one of the most controversial topics in modern yoga: cross-training. Why are yogis often expected to perform advanced poses without any conditioning? And what happens when we bring strength training, circus arts and rehabilitation work into yoga spaces? This episode explores:Why yoga doesn't “fix” your problems, but changes your relationship with themThe hidden injuries behind traditional yoga cultureWhy conditioning, weights and bands might be essential for healthy yoga practiceThe danger of blindly following cuesWhy questioning teachers should be encouraged, not discouragedThe importance of updating yoga education with evolving scienceMiles challenges the idea that yoga must look a certain way and instead reframes it as a broader exploration of connection, curiosity and personal growth. If you've ever wondered why some classes feel incredible and others don't, or why your body responds differently than expected, this episode will make you rethink how yoga is taught and practiced.Part two continues the conversation into mindset, philosophy and what actually creates progress in practice.About MilesMiles grew up in Sydney, Australia. His mother was a yoga teacher so its practices and teachings were always there in the background of his life. The much-anticipated novel from preeminent journalist and royal biographer Omid Scobie and National Book Award-winner Robin Benway, two bestselling and beloved authors who are drawing from their real world expertise, an irresistibly entertaining story about a young American woman who takes a job at Buckingham Palace-where she finds herself tangled in a royal mess she might not be able to spin her way out of.She can handle the press...but can she handle the Palace? With the British monarchy reeling from a wave of scandals, young American politico Lauren Morgan is plucked from the White House press office to breathe new life into the Buckingham Palace communications team and improve the royal family's streak of bad headlines. But the Palace is an institution steeped in tradition and strict protocol, and Lauren quickly discovers that change is far from easy, or welcome, especially when you're dealing with culture clashes, displeased royal aides, and a risky new love interest-or two.Just as Lauren finds her footing at work-and with a charming royal reporter who may be more than just a press contact-an unexpected encounter from her past threatens the career she's worked so hard to build. And when scandal looms over the dashing duke who Lauren has developed a special bond with, she finds herself torn between duty, loyalty, success, and happiness. From London's high society clubs to the sacred corridors and rarely seen spaces of Buckingham Palace, Royal Spin is a fun, humorous, and heartfelt novel that reminds us of the importance of chasing your dreams, and that the most rewarding journeys are often the messiest.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Send us your feedback — we're listeningPhilippians 4:7 — Jesus, Calm My Mind Tonight and Silence Every Anxious Thought Rising Against Me TUESDAY 18 FEBRUARY 2026 — 3:00 A.M. From London to Wellington, Johannesburg, Houston, Belfast, Vancouver, Seoul, and Tel Aviv, this 3 a.m. devotional speaks directly into the global search cries rising in the darkest hours — “overthinking at night,” “Jesus calm my mind,” “Holy Spirit peace,” “I can't stop thinking,” “night anxiety,” “panic at 3 a.m.,” “prayer for racing thoughts,” “fear of tomorrow at night.” Philippians 4:7 (NIV): “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Isaiah 26:3 (NIV): “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” Jesus, here in the early hours, when the mind refuses to settle and anxious thoughts spiral without mercy, I turn to You. You see the overthinking that intensifies when everything is quiet, the looping fears, the replayed conversations, the imagined disasters, the dread of tomorrow, the emotional heaviness that hits hardest in the night, the fear of losing control, the mental storms that refuse to ease. And these reflect the very searches being typed across the world right now — Jesus calm my mind, overthinking at night, prayer for anxiety, Holy Spirit guard my thoughts, fear of tomorrow at 3am, intrusive thoughts prayer, peace for my mind, help me breathe again, settle me, steady me, protect me. Jesus, speak Your peace into my mind. Guard my thoughts with the power of Your presence. Build a hedge of peace around my heart. Holy Spirit, draw near and quiet every internal storm. Lift the fear that tightens its grip. Break the cycle of overthinking. Cover my mind with Your light. Let the peace of God become the atmosphere of this moment — deeper than fear, stronger than anxiety, greater than every thought that rises to overwhelm me. I declare that my mind is guarded by Christ. Peace belongs to me. Anxiety will not rule me. Panic will not control me. My thoughts will bow to the name of Jesus. Tonight I receive the perfect peace that only God can give, and I will rest under His unfailing protection. Jesus calm my mind, overthinking at night, 3am anxiety prayer, Holy Spirit peace, intrusive thoughts prayer, global devotional night prayer, Philippians 4:7 prayer, fear of tomorrow at nightSupport the showFor more inspiring content, visit RBChristianRadio.net — your home for daily devotionals, global prayer, and biblical encouragement for every season of life. In this episode of Building Doors, host Lauren Karan sits down with Mark Simister, a globally experienced program leader who has spent three decades reshaping how infrastructure is delivered. From London's crumbling water network to disaster recovery in Queensland and Christchurch, and ultimately transforming Sydney Water into one of the world's top-performing programs, Mark's story proves that collaboration is not a buzzword. It is a system that works when leaders are brave enough to implement it.Mark opens up about his unconventional journey from the British Army to hydrogeology to major program delivery. He shares inside stories from rebuilding regions after natural disasters, pioneering early contractor involvement, cutting years out of procurement cycles, and leading one of the most influential collaborative frameworks in Australia.Whether you work in water, transport, energy, major projects, or leadership more broadly, this conversation will challenge you to rethink how teams engage, how contracts shape behavior, and how cultural clarity lifts productivity. Mark shows what happens when you replace fear-based systems with trust-based delivery: better outcomes, higher morale, and programs people are proud to be part of.What You'll Learn in This Episode:Leadership & Career Journey:How Mark went from the British Army to hydrogeology to multimillion-dollar program leadership. Why early exposure to NEC contracts shaped his lifelong passion for collaboration. How major disaster events (2011 floods, Christchurch earthquake) taught him the power of co-location and shared purpose.Collaboration & High-Performance Delivery:Why early-contractor involvement removes waste before it starts. How co-located teams eliminate rework and build trust. Why standardized contracts accelerate decisions and cut procurement delays. How shared KPIs and open-book data create accountability instead of adversarial behavior.Procurement Reform & Industry Challenges:Why traditional tendering creates fear, inefficiency, and poor outcomes. How Sydney Water shifted from adversarial contracting to 10-year partnership frameworks. How behavioral scoring using organizational psychologists created world-class team alignment. Why governance should enable, not police, major programs.Culture, People & LegacyWhy emotional intelligence matters as much as engineering intelligence. How embedding finance, communications, and support staff into frontline teams boosts morale. Why Mark believes mature engagement between owners and contractors must define Australia's next decade of delivery. What meaningful legacy looks like when billions of public dollars are on the line.Key Quotes from Mark Simister:“I want to see people enjoying being at work. I want to see a maturity in the engagement between owner and contractor.”“Everyone will work in a spirit of mutual trust and cooperation, that's written into NEC, and it changes everything.”“Get what you want. Gold's holding strong near $4,000, and demand from both investors and industry is pushing supply to its limits. Listen now as senior analyst James Anderson breaks down what's really driving this historic silver surge—and what it means for everyday Americans watching from the sidelines. Silver hit a historic milestone: Silver officially closed above $50 an ounce 10/10/2025 — the highest nominal weekly close ever in U.S. dollars. It's a major psychological mark the market's been eyeing for years. London's running short on big silver bars: 1,000-ounce bars — the kind traded between banks and refiners — are in tight supply. Lease rates in London skyrocketed to levels not seen since Warren Buffett's silver play back in 1998.
The war that we now call the American Revolution was not only fought in the colonies with muskets and bayonets. On both sides of the Atlantic, artists armed with paint, canvas, and wax played an integral role in forging revolutionary ideals. In The Painter's Fire: A Forgotten History of the Artists Who Championed the American Revolution (Harvard UP, 2025), Dr. Zara Anishanslin charts the intertwined lives of three such figures who dared to defy the British monarchy: Robert Edge Pine, Prince Demah, and Patience Wright. From London to Boston, from Jamaica to Paris, from Bath to Philadelphia, these largely forgotten patriots boldly risked their reputations and their lives to declare independence. Mostly excluded from formal political or military power, these artists and their circles fired salvos against the king on the walls of the Royal Academy as well as on the battlefields of North America. They used their talents to inspire rebellion, define American patriotism, and fashion a new political culture, often alongside more familiar revolutionary figures such as Benjamin Franklin and Phillis Wheatley. Pine, an award-winning British artist rumored to be of African descent, infused massive history paintings with politics and eventually emigrated to the young United States. Demah, the first identifiable enslaved portrait painter in America, was Pine's pupil in London before self-emancipating and enlisting to fight for the Patriot cause. And Wright, a Long Island–born wax sculptor who became a sensation in London, loudly advocated for revolution while acting as an informal patriot spy. Illuminating a transatlantic and cosmopolitan world of revolutionary fervor, The Painter's Fire reveals an extraordinary cohort whose experiences testify to both the promise and the limits of liberty in the founding era. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Mike Pekovich and Phil Huber join Ben to debrief their week-long woodworking tour of England—part museum crawl, part shop class, all inspiration. From London's Building Crafts College (trade-focused millwork and stonemasonry) to the Snowdon School of Furniture (studio furniture, domestic woods, and a “rip-only” tablesaw philosophy), they compare shop practices and rethink joinery workflows (tenoners, Domino, band-sawn cheeks, using the miter saw's depth stop). The trip winds through the Westonbirt Arboretum and an unforgettable boxwood deep-dive with a Baroque oboe maker, then into the V&A's technique-curated furniture gallery. In the Cotswolds, Rodmarton Manor (Barnsley/Gimson) and the Gordon Russell Museum spark lessons in design “grammar,” chamfers, and English drawer slips you'll want to steal. There's even a pub-hall turning demo with Paul Hannaby—pints included. Plus: a quick preview of next week's Woodworking in America in Des Moines and what Ben, Phil, and friends will be teaching and doing on site. Both moves come in the shadow of Charlie Kirk's death, which has become a rallying point for conservatives worldwide. From London to Washington, Kirk's legacy and the populist surge are colliding with establishment forces, fueling a moment that feels bigger than politics: a fight for culture, faith, and the future of the West. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Andrew Wakefield, physician-turned-filmmaker and one of the most controversial voices in modern medicine. From his early days as a gastroenterologist in the UK to becoming an outspoken critic of vaccine policy, Andy shares the story of how listening to parents and pursuing uncomfortable questions about children's health ultimately cost him his profession, country, and medical license. Andy and I discuss the rise in autism diagnoses, the explosion of the vaccine schedule, and the erosion of public trust in health authorities—alongside the role of media, censorship, and film in shaping public awareness.Whether you agree with him or not, Andy's perspective challenges us to confront uncomfortable questions about integrity, power, and responsibility in medicine. It's a conversation about courage, conviction, and what it takes to speak out when the stakes are at their highest.
