hello folks! welcome to episode 42. This episode concerns the great confessional poet, Sylvia Plath. I believe she is a second or third generation confessional poet from Robert Lowell and Elizabeth Bishop as prime mentors/teachers and I believe they were first or second generational confessional poets. I have not confirmed this as of yet. Thank you for your support folks. NOTE: Ariel was the second book of Sylvia Plath's poetry to be published. It was originally published in 1965, two years after her death by suicide. (Wikipedia) Originally published: 1965. In the copy of Ariel I read from there are publishing dates of 1961 up to 1965(published by the poet Ted Hughes who I believe represented the estate as well) --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ckhanson81/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ckhanson81/support

Hello folks. Welcome to episode 31 of POET-THREAD w/ckhanson81. In this episode I will talk of two great compositions of literature, namely, THE CANTERBURY TALES & TROILUS AND CRISEYDE by the magnificent Geoffrey Chaucer. Geoffrey Chaucer (/ˈtʃɔːsər/; c. 1340s – 25 October 1400) was an English poet and author. Widely considered the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages, he is best known for The Canterbury Tales.[1] He has been called the "father of English literature", or, alternatively, the "father of English poetry".[2] He was the first writer to be buried in what has since come to be called Poets' Corner, in Westminster Abbey.[3] Chaucer also gained fame as a philosopher and astronomer, composing the scientific A Treatise on the Astrolabe for his 10-year-old son Lewis. He maintained a career in the civil service as a bureaucrat, courtier, diplomat, and member of parliament. Greetings, how are you? Ckhanson81 will attempt to light your poetic fire with this episode. He mentions Basquiat(artist) and Former poet laureate Billy Collins, as well as 18th century Alexander Pope type poets who like to use rhyming couplets often in their verse and 19th century romantics like Byron and Keats and later 19th century poets like Emily Dickinson and Poe who break with the rhyming schematics as per the standard of the 18th century aesthetic. Why do poets write- how many poets out there currently write- is writing competitive? I think so. How to solve writers block and is it really an issue in the end? Thanks for listening folks. best wishes, sincerely, Ckhanson81
