80 year old Bhim Kohli decided to pop over the road into the Franklin park and take his dog for a walk. It was his regular activity and of course didn't expect to be assaulted by 2 young people. I can't name the young people was they have had their names made private but what I can say is that they brutally assaulted Bhim in a catastrophic way and left him to be fond by his family after running off. Even worse, they filmed the whole thing. Just horrific. Join me where I discuss the events of that day in September 2024. Em x

In this episode, Father Matt and Father Brian discuss Thunderbolts* (2025), the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They explore the film's central themes of trauma and the power of love to overcome conflict, drawing connections to Christian understandings of suffering. The episode also includes reflections on recent films they've watched, commentary on the direction of the Marvel franchise, and a fun mythology quiz to wrap things up. 0:28: Fr. Brian and Fr. Matt begin by catching up on the few months since they last recorded an episode, discussing the appointment of Archbishop Weisenburger as Archbishop of Detroit and the election of Pope Leo XIV. They also catch up on some of the movies they've recently seen, including The Agony and the Ecstasy (1965) depicting the relationship between Michelangelo and Pope Julius II during the painting of the Sistine Chapel; Pride and Prejudice, the 2005 remake starring Keira Knightley; Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005); Snow White (2025); and Warfare, (2025) about he real-life experiences of soldiers in the 2003-2011 Iraq War. 10:41: Fr. Brian introduces the film that is the focus of this episode, Thunderbolts*. Released in 2025, the 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was directed by Jake Schreier and written by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo. 11:48: Fr. Matt and Fr. Brian discuss the expansiveness of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which shows and movies they've seen, and how keeping up with all this content can make it difficult for casual viewers to keep up with the characters, plots, and maintain a sense of engagement with the heroic characters. Our hosts also discuss how the last several Marvel shows and films seem to have been trying to convey a message or promote an agenda rather than simply tell an entertaining story. 16:33: Fr. Matt provides a brief overview of the plot and main characters of Thunderbolts*. 24:41: Fr. Brian and Fr. Matt discuss some of the major themes in the film: how to deal with the parts of ourselves that we may not like, managing the effects of wounds from our pasts, and breaking the stranglehold that psychological trauma can have on our lives. 28:46: Fr. Matt talks about how the film depicts the power of love to overcome conflict. Fr Brian adds to that discussion, noting that for the characters in the film, their success only comes when they stop working in isolation and begin working together. This is very much akin to our understanding that we do not suffer alone; Christ enters into our suffering with us. 30:56: Fr. Matt notes that the film also portrays the notion that we are not defined by our worst moments and that great freedom can come from bringing them to the light. 34:16: Our hosts share their “seeds of the word” ratings for the film, based on how clearly they saw goodness, truth, and beauty reflected in the story. 39:46: In the last segment, Fr. Brain quizzes Fr. Matt about characters from Roman and Greek mythology.

On this Memorial Day weekend, we reflected on the idea of a “wake-up call”—those moments in life when God, out of love, confronts us with truth that is hard to hear but necessary for our growth. Using Paul's relationship with the church in Corinth as our guide, we saw how even the most faithful can face seasons of pain, misunderstanding, and the need for hard conversations. Paul, after pouring his life into the Corinthians, learned that his integrity was being attacked by outsiders, and the church he loved did nothing to stop it. Instead of ignoring the issue, Paul wrote a severe, heartfelt letter—one that was painful to write and painful to receive, but absolutely necessary for the health of the community and for their spiritual growth. We explored how God often uses these moments of confrontation—whether through others or through circumstances—to forge us, much like metal is shaped in fire. Sometimes, the pain we experience is not the result of random suffering, but of God's purposeful, redemptive work in our lives. The question is not whether we will face these wake-up calls, but how we will respond: will we receive them and grow, or will we resist and remain unchanged?Through stories of real people—one battling addiction, another struggling with character issues, and even my own experience as a teenager—we saw that the wake-up call is not the end, but the beginning of transformation. Godly sorrow, the kind that leads to repentance and change, is different from worldly sorrow, which only brings regret and death. God's desire is not to punish, but to rescue, to bring us back from destructive paths and into abundant life.We ended with the story of the prodigal son, a reminder that when we finally respond to God's call and turn back to Him, He runs to meet us with open arms. No matter how far we've wandered or how deep the mess, our Father celebrates the return of rebels. The invitation is simple but profound: don't ignore the wake-up call. Lean into the forging, trust God's love, and take a step toward Him today.[00:00] - Welcome[02:55] - Paul's Transformation and Mission[06:57] - The Strategic Importance of Corinth[09:07] - Attacks on Paul's Integrity[10:43] - The “Severe Letter” and Hard Conversations[13:08] - The Pain and Necessity of Confrontation[15:28] - The Forging Process: God's Purpose in Pain[17:35] - When Suffering Is Self-Inflicted[19:06] - Responding to God's Wake-Up Call[20:11] - Paul's Agony and Waiting for Titus[22:04] - The Weight of Reputation and Fear[23:28] - Real-Life Wake-Up Calls: Stories of Addiction and Growth[33:25] - The Joy of Repentance and Change[34:04] - Redemptive Pain vs. Worldly Sorrow[39:20] - Parenting, Discipline, and Redemptive Pain[47:12] - Godly Sorrow and True Repentance[52:01] - The Prodigal Son: God's Heart for Return[53:08] - Invitation to Respond and Prayer[57:03] - Closing Prayer and Blessing

Mary stood at the foot of the cross as her son, Jesus Christ, died in front of her. Despite this great anguish she experienced, she offers us an example of hope that God provides and will always prevail. Listen to Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C share more in this segment from the Son Rise Morning Show on Sacred Heart Radio, in his reflection on Pope Francis' Bull of Indiction for the Jubilee Year, Spes Non Confundit.24. Hope finds its supreme witness in the Mother of God. In the Blessed Virgin, we see that hope is not naive optimism but a gift of grace amid the realities of life. Like every mother, whenever Mary looked at her Son, she thought of his future. Surely she kept pondering in her heart the words spoken to her in the Temple by the elderly Simeon: “This child is destined for the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be opposed, so that the inner thoughts of many will be revealed – and a sword will pierce your own soul too” (Lk 2:34-35). At the foot of the cross, she witnessed the passion and death of Jesus, her innocent son. Overwhelmed with grief, she nonetheless renewed her “fiat”, never abandoning her hope and trust in God. In this way, Mary cooperated for our sake in the fulfilment of all that her Son had foretold in announcing that he would have to “undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again” (Mk 8:31). In the travail of that sorrow, offered in love, Mary became our Mother, the Mother of Hope. It is not by chance that popular piety continues to invoke the Blessed Virgin as Stella Maris, a title that bespeaks the sure hope that, amid the tempests of this life, the Mother of God comes to our aid, sustains us and encourages us to persevere in hope and trust. In this regard, I would note that the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City is preparing to celebrate, in 2031, the fifth centenary of Our Lady's first apparition. Through Juan Diego, the Mother of God brought a revolutionary message of hope that she continues to bring to every pilgrim and all the faithful: “Am I not here, who am your Mother?” [20] That message continues to touch hearts in the many Marian shrines throughout the world, where countless pilgrims commend to the holy Mother of God their cares, their sorrows and their hopes. During the Jubilee Year, may these shrines be sacred places of welcome and privileged spaces for the rebirth of hope. I encourage all pilgrims to Rome to spend time in prayer in the Marian shrines of the City, in order to venerate the Blessed Mother and to implore her protection. I am confident that everyone, especially the suffering and those most in need, will come to know the closeness of Mary, the most affectionate of mothers, who never abandons her children and who, for the holy people of God, is “a sign of certain hope and comfort”. 1st published 1875The Shadow of Calvary is a classic of Christian literature in which Hugh Martin leads us through the garden of Gethsemane to the arrest and the trial of Jesus. Martin interprets these events in the light of the fulfillment of the Scriptures. Chance is that you do not entirely understand what Calvary meant to Jesus. Here Martin leads us through the biblical account of Calvary taking you through every step of the Shadow of Calvary. Most modern preaching and writing simply scraps the surface of God's Word, Martin reaches the heart of the sacrifice and love shown on the cross.
In this episode, the Agony Aunties address a listener's concern about feeling invisible in their mid-fifties due to ageism in both work and social spaces. Reflecting on their own experiences, the Agony Aunties discuss the psychological challenges and societal biases that come with aging, particularly for women. They emphasise the importance of valuing oneself, embracing inner strengths, and finding liberation in this new phase of life. They also touch upon the cultural obsession with anti-aging and all the benefits of reaching one's fifties. Please subscribe and leave a review—it truly makes all the difference! Welcome to a special Good Friday edition of The Patrick Madrid Show. In this compelling hour, Patrick opens with a prayer before a crucifix and then focuses on the mystery of the Shroud of Turin—one of Christianity’s most debated relics. Patrick examines both scientific studies and theological perspectives, discussing topics such as controversial carbon dating, forensic insights into the wounds shown on the Shroud, and recent high-tech tests that reveal features scientists still can’t fully explain. Patrick considers the possibility that the Shroud is truly the burial cloth of Jesus, connecting its rare blood markers, anatomically accurate wounds, and unusual image formation to the story of the Crucifixion. He invites listeners to deepen their understanding of Good Friday and reflect on what Christ endured for all of humanity. Sloane (9-years-old)- Would I go to heaven if I died without Confirmation? (19:26) Mercedes - Regarding 7 last words of Christ. Why are the 7 last words called that when they are actually 7 sentences? (24:38) Cindy - When Jesus was in the Agony of the Garden, what did he mean by praying not to undergo the test? (26:57) Luke (12-years-old) – In Matthew Chapter 25 v14-16: Judas went straight to the priests. I always thought the priests approached Judas. (39:42) Lina - Is it a venial sin not to be truthful? (35:30) Joanne - I am a Mormon married to a Catholic convert. I feel like I should be able to practice my Mormon faith. (41:14)
