If you are a fan of the scene you are most likely going to come across this gentleman pretty soon upon hanging out for a bit, but unless you dive deep you won't know Chris. Talk about prolific, Chris Harford has been making amazing music since his high school days with no signs of stopping soon. Not only does he write, record and produce his own music, he also runs his own record label supporting other awesome independent artists and collaborators. You could keep digging into this guy's career all day and still not get to everything! For the sake of sanity, we stuck to a few points for this interview, and it will take us awhile to unpack all of these! We spoke with Chris about his early bands, including the cult favorite Three Colors, which he started in college with some fellow art students. The seminal album "Be Headed" that just happens to be the major label debut of some of our other musical friends being released in 1992. The independent record label "Soul Selects" that Chris and his friends started in the 80's and still run to this day. Living with Andrew Weiss and Sim Cain while the early Ween albums were being made, and Chris explains to everyone once and for all what the hell the "Zion House of Flesh" actually is!!Chris explains what it was like to be produced by Mickey and working on the Chocodog Records release of his record "Looking out for Number 6"; a true anomaly among the Chocodog and Schnitzel projects. We also talk about some of the really cool current projects that Chris has worked on within the last few years; like the Birdfeeder collaboration with Mark Mulcahy of Polaris and Miracle Legion. The very groovy instrumental record he made with the Philly based Jazz band Channel Collective, and his travels with Paul Muldoon and the rock-poetry group Rogue Oliphant. Please go to Soul Selects.com to see all of the available releases by the record label, and Chris Harford.com to download all of the catalog releases by Chris and his constantly evolving Band of Changes.Join us on Patreon.com for some more fun and exclusive material including the entire Chris interview where we discuss Chris' Dub project Blanc du Blanc, his thoughts on vinyl vs and download, and some other fun surprises! Also live is a new episode of Shane's Ween Vinyl featuring the Chris Album "Looking out for Number 6", its a cool mini-sode talking about the albums vinyl and some fun facts about the CD compared to the record. Thank You and Please enjoy!!!

Join us for an intimate dive into two Warren Zevon albums - 'Life'll Kill Ya' (2000) and 'My Ride's Here' (2002). In this third episode of a three part tribute to Warren Zevon, LEGENDS: Podcast by All Day Vinyl and host Scott Dudelson take you on an journey deep into two albums that showcase Zevon's unflinching wit, deep introspection, and fearless exploration of life, death, and everything in between. To peel back the layers of these remarkable records, we are joined by two of Zevon's closest collaborators: Jorge Calderón, his trusted lifetime co-writer and multi-instrumentalist, and Noah Scot Snyder, the engineer and mixer who helped bring 'My Ride's Here' to life. Together, they share personal insights, untold stories, and a wealth of behind-the-scenes moments that bring Zevon's genius into sharp focus. What You'll Discover in This Episode: A Deep Dive into the Creative Process: Learn how songs like “Porcelain Monkey” emerged from everyday conversations and vivid storytelling. Jorge shares how a Graceland postcard sparked the song's haunting narrative about Elvis Presley. Zevon's Evolving Career: Explore how 'Life'll Kill Ya' marked Zevon's return after years of struggling for a record deal, with much of the album being self-recorded in his home studio, aptly named Anatomy of a Headache. Dark Humor Meets Mortality: Hear the story behind “My Shit's F***ed Up,” a raw and prophetic anthem written years before Zevon's cancer diagnosis, as well as the poignant “Don't Let Us Get Sick." Collaborating with Legends: We dive into Zevon's experience co-writing with literary giants like Hunter S. Thompson and Paul Muldoon, and how that experience carved the path into Zevon's final album "The Wind." The Practical Realities of Creativity: Noah Scot Snyder reflects on working with a meticulous artist who pushed the limits of early digital recording technology while mentoring a young engineer in the process. The Lost Tapes: The pair reveal that the Master tapes for 'Life'll Kill Ya' are lost and only because of Zevon & Snyder's foresight were the tapes for his follow up album "The Wind" preserved & stored properly. Why This Episode Matters: 'Life'll Kill Ya' and 'My Ride's Here' represent two of Zevon's most introspective and uncompromising works, created during a period of significant personal and professional transformation. Through the anecdotes, humor, and heartfelt reflections of those who knew him best, this episode offers an intimate portrait of a man who refused to compromise his artistic vision. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to Warren Zevon's music, this conversation sheds light on the creative genius and enduring legacy of one of rock's most distinctive voices. The UBP is honored to partner once again with the good folks at Pushkin, as we proudly present Season 2, Episode 3 of McCartney: A Life In Lyrics. This week, T.J., Producer Casey, and a rather talkative, dialed-in, obviously present Tony, listen in and discuss Macca and Paul Muldoon's deep-dish of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". Bang Bang! On the door, baby! ----- McCartney: A Life in Lyrics | Maxwell's Silver Hammer One day in the car, Paul McCartney heard a BBC production of the absurdist play “Ubu Cocu” by French writer Alfred Jarry. Taken by the rebelliousness of the radio play, McCartney wrote a sweet-sounding tune about a murderous medical student that seemingly lives in the same universe as Ubu: “Maxwell's Silver Hammer.” “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” is a co-production between iHeart Media, MPL and Pushkin Industries. The series was produced by Pejk Malinovski and Sara McCrea; written by Sara McCrea; edited by Dan O'Donnell and Sophie Crane; mastered by Jason Gambrell with assistance from Jake Gorski and sound design by Pejk Malinovski. The series is executive produced by Leital Molad, Justin Richmond, Lee Eastman and Scott Rodger. Thanks to Lee Eastman, Richard Ewbank, Scott Rodger, Aoife Corbett and Steve Ithell. -- McCartney: A Life in Lyrics offers listeners the opportunity to sit in on conversations between Paul McCartney and poet Paul Muldoon dissecting the people, experiences, and art that inspired McCartney's songwriting. These conversations were held during the past several years as the two collaborated on the best selling book, “The Lyrics: 1965 to Present.” Over two seasons and 24 episodes of McCartney: A Life in Lyrics, you'll hear a combination master class, memoir, and improvised journey with one of the most beloved figures in popular music. Each episode focuses on one song from McCartney's iconic catalog – spanning early Beatles through his solo work. “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” is a co-production between iHeart Media, MPL and Pushkin Industries.
From his earliest days as a songwriter, Paul McCartney was interested in love songs. But by the time of Wing's 1976 album “At the Speed of Sound” McCartney had become tired of critics suggesting that was all he wrote. And so he wrote the album's lead single, a defiant anthem about the importance of love in our lives, and named it “Silly Love Songs.” Through discussing this song with Paul Muldoon, McCartney also touches on some of the other love songs in his catalogue: “Can't Buy Me Love,” “All My Loving,” “I Will” and one he wrote for his wife, Nancy —”My Valentine.” “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” is a co-production between iHeart Media, MPL and Pushkin Industries. SUMMARY Unseen Paul builds on our earlier episodes by sharing even more quotes, stories, and insights about young Paul McCartney, who deserves a nuanced and dynamic portrait in any Beatles biography. We explore some of his more overlooked character traits: his quirks and gifts; his stressors and anxieties; his unusual interests and values. These features reveal him as a fascinatingly dualistic artist and person. We're so excited to welcome poet and editor Paul Muldoon to the podcast, to talk about his work on Paul McCartney's book, The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, and the companion podcast, Paul McCartney: A Life in Lyrics. Paul Muldoon has been described as “the most significant English-language poet born since the second world war.” He is a recipient of the Pulitzer prize for poetry, holds ten honorary doctorates, and is currently the sitting Ireland Professor of Poetry. Additionally, he served as poetry editor for the New Yorker, and is currently a professor at Princeton University. Beatle fans will know him as the editor of Paul McCartney: THE LYRICS: 1956–Present, published in 2021. A new paperback edition was released this month, and includes 7 new commentaries. The Lyrics is the result of five years of candid conversations that Paul Muldoon had with Paul McCartney about the circumstances surrounding the songs' creation, the people and places that inspired them, and what Paul thinks of them today. The original hardback edition of The Lyrics was a huge success, winning the 2022 British Book Award for Best Nonfiction Lifestyle book, and it was named 2021 book of the year for both Waterstones bookstore in the UK and Barnes and Noble in the US. Beyond the book, Paul Mulddon is also the narrator of the new companion podcast, Paul McCartney: A Life in Lyrics. Each episode focuses on a single song featured in the lyrics. We hear recordings of the candid conversations Paul Muldoon had with Paul McCartney to create the book, further augmented by narration, music, and historical soundbites. --------------------- +Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter/X for photos, videos, and more from this episode & past episodes — we're @bcthebeatles everywhere. +Follow BC the Beatles on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you're listening now. +Buy us a coffee! www.ko-fi.com/bcthebeatles +Contact us at bcthebeatles@gmail.com.

Todo mundo perdeu o medo do processinho, será? Ele continua por aí rondando as cabeças dos irresponsáveis. 8. “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” busca explorar todo o entorno do artista para entender o que o inspirou a compor as músicas. Cue the Salt 'N' Pepa: Pu-Pu-Pushkin's real good…at producing podcasts and audiobooks! They're the force behind the just-dropped “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” pod, which is off to a delightfully entertaining and insightful start. The dulcet tones of Paul Muldoon had better be the future voice of AI. (We're talking about practice. Not a game.) And on this very special episode of the UBP, the Gab Two is proud to present, in partnership with Pushkin, a special airing of “McCartney: A Life in Lyrics” Episode 2. How cool is that?! This one one's a Double Paul deep-dish on “Back In The U.S.S.R.”, a definitive #FileUnderRock track, though, as the episode sadly fails to acknowledge, was largely unknown until Billy Joel's live take on “Kohuept” (2 LP's on 1 CD!). We'll be back with our usual chicanery and a whole new episode/world, DON'T YOU DARE CLOSE YOUR EYES, next week. In the meantime, all 3.5 of us at the UBP are absolutely honoured to be associated with anything Macca-related. We hope you will enjoy the show as much as we did. Five Freaking Fabs! ----- McCartney: A Life in Lyrics | Back in the U.S.S.R What's Paul McCartney, a Liverpudlian, doing writing about the Soviet Union in 1968? Turns out McCartney was doing a little Chuck Berry, a bit of The Beach Boys, some pastiche and a lot of subversion. Opening “The White Album”, “Back in the U.S.S.R.” raised some eyebrows. And because of The Beatles' evolving position within the former Eastern Bloc the song has over the years taken on a life of its own, following the trajectory of the West's often fraught relationship with the region.

Broken Record with Rick Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam and Justin Richmond
Today we are sharing a very special project we've been working on at Pushkin, a new podcast with the one and only, Sir Paul McCartney. The show's called McCartney: A Life in Lyrics and it's full of insightful conversations between Paul McCartney and his friend, the Irish poet Paul Muldoon. Together they taped years of conversations digging into Paul's lyrics and songwriting process. And because it's impossible to separate the art from the man, a lot of McCartney's personal life gets revealed along the way, like insight into his family life in Liverpool, the success and breakup of the Beatles, Wings and so much more. McCartney: A Life in Lyrics dropped with two episodes today—one on The Beatles "Eleanor Rigby," and the one we're presenting here for you today on "Back In the U.S.S.R." If you love music and songwriting and have ever wanted to be a fly on the wall for in-depth conversations with a Beatle, then McCartney: A Life in Lyrics won't disappoint. You can binge the entire first season now by subscribing to Pushkin+ on Apple Podcasts.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“You're much more productive when you actually feel like getting out of bed for the day. And I just think that you don't have to be in a dark place to write a dark song. And realizing that has opened up a lot of opportunities for me to live a more healthy life.” - Anthony D'AmatoSinger Songwriter Anthony D'Amato joins Rhett on this episode to talk about going from publicity intern to client at Shore Fire Media, and what he learned by coming up on the business side of the music industry. Anthony shares the story of working on a St Vincent publicity campaign, explains why the idea of being a sellout has gone out the window, and the two discuss Fantastic Cat, his side project that is “something of a supergroup”.Anthony D'Amato first rose to international attention with the ‘The Shipwreck From The Shore,' his 2014 debut for New West Records. Inspired in part by time spent studying with the Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon, the album garnered rave reviews on both sides of the pond. Along the way, D'Amato toured extensively across the US and Europe, sharing bills with the likes of Ben Folds, Valerie June, Keb' Mo', The Felice Brothers, American Aquarium, and many more. Most recently, D'Amato headed west for his new album, At First There Was Nothing, marking his first first full-length release in six years.
