IN THIS EPISODE: Two thirds of your potential audience may not've ever actually heard the episode. You're able to access an entire other two thirds of potential audience members out there through your social media by reposting older episodes #Rock the Podcast host Jessica Rhodes, founder and CEO of InterviewConnections.com interviews Traci DeForge, founder and CEO of Produce Your Podcast about all things podcasting. Below is a transcription of this episode: Voice Over: If you're ready to launch a podcast or you're currently podcasting and want to kick things up a notch here's another infopod from Produce your Podcast designed to take your show to the next level. Have a question leave us a message or fill out the online contact form that's produce your podcast. Jessica Rhodes: Can you talk a little bit about the importance of promoting past episodes especially if you're producing evergreen content. Traci DeForge: The one thing that is I think is really important for podcasters to realize is that it's still such a new medium. And right now, and this is going to be a bit flabbergasting when you hear it. But it is factual. Right now, two thirds of your potential audience may not have ever actually heard your episode. And so what I mean by that is You're still able to access an entire other two thirds of potential audience members out there through your social media and through your other outreach efforts. So if you are putting out previous episodes that have evergreen content what happens is is that you always have the chance to speak to somebody who may want to hear that particular message. If you only release the episode one time and market it during that one week then you're only going to hit the people that are on social media or following fans and your guest followers and fans during that one week. So what we've found is that especially with our client shows, one of our clients for example that uses this really effectively is an autism expert that we produce out of Denver. Her show is Behind the Breakthroughs and she speaks to parents with kids with autism, she speaks to a therapists around her protocol for treating autism and working with children with autism. She's also a woman business owner and she talks about integrating her business into her life and effective ways to run her business and then she also share some really heartwarming but almost can be humorous behind the scenes stories of working with her client base. So all those have different messages targeted towards different people. So if she was only to market that one episode during that one week she could really miss out on developing her reach outside of just what that one topic might be. IN THIS EPISODE: Traci outlines a comprehensive strategy for growing your email list by repurposing your content in multiple areas. #Rock the Podcast host Jessica Rhodes, founder and CEO of InterviewConnections.com interviews Traci DeForge, founder and CEO of Produce Your Podcast about all things podcasting. Below is a transcription of this episode: Voice Over: If you're ready to launch a podcast or you're currently podcasting and want to kick things up a notch here's another infopod from Produce your Podcast designed to take your show to the next level. Jessica Rhodes: What tips do you have when you're working with entrepreneurs on building their list from their podcast? Traci DeForge: Oh my gosh. Another great question. So in my experience one of the things that and I've worked with thousands of entrepreneurs over the last 10 years which has such has been such a great catalyst to get me to this place with podcasting marketing strategy and one of the things that I guess there's one word and it's repurpose, repurpose, repurpose and that is probably one of the best investments that you can make using integrating podcasting as a marketing tool because it can become the hub of everything else you do to build your list. And what I mean by that is first and foremost you invest your time and resources in getting a show quality produced and ready to go and ready to be released. Once that audio is released then you can have that audio transcribed. Once you have that audio transcribed then you can take the transcription and you can extract social media post, content posts, you can take that full transcription and you can edit it into a blog post and then one of the things that you can utilize in terms of audience building is that you can take the transcription and turn it into a newsletter. If you're working ahead which can be a challenge for all of us entrepreneurs to work ahead then you can also as a secondary audience building tool is to release that newsletter in advance of the release of your actual episode which then provides your audience a bit of a VIP access. And in that way you can encourage people with a call to action which is if you sign up for our newsletter then you'll have access to either behind the scene content or content that gets released in advance of when the general public can access it. So they're all different kinds of ways but the most important thing to remember is that start with your podcast audio and repurpose, repurpose, repurpose, repurpose. IN THIS EPISODE: Traci lays out a comprehensive 5 step marketing strategy you can implement for every episode of your podcast. Jessica Rhodes: Let's start with your tips on gaining more listeners. Traci DeForge: Oh my gosh that is such a great question and one that we address in a very detail oriented way with our clients because one thing we all know for sure is that as much fun as you might be having creating and producing and having your own show if no one's out there listening to it and especially if you're utilizing it as part of a marketing tool and you're not getting the activation in the response that you're looking for then what's really the point, right? So we recommend that you have your show tile (that's your album art) on the show on iTunes and all the other platforms but recreate and have a specific graphic tile for each episode and when you release your episode utilize that and post that throughout the day, on the day, that it's released. But on social media, that's not enough. We all know that. So what we recommend is then secondarily come back and create a quote tile. Extract some content... something that was a quote from one of your guests in the show. Like for example we recently used Margie's quote of "Don't limit yourself" that she said on our Journey to There show. We created a quote tile that has the quote, the guest name and we also promote the links to the show. Again, in regards to the links to the show... don't just use your iTunes link. Use your link to iTunes, use your link to the website and when you alternate your posts make sure you alternate your links because people get access to their podcasts in different places and in different ways. And then thirdly, we use a program and you can access it.I think they still have a free account but the pro accounts are really cost effective and that's a program called wavve where you can actually insert your audio and use video. You can also upload those to youtube and then the 4 step is that is we'll pull back a previous episode so that we're still promoting the show but maybe a previous episode that has been released and then say you have a really great review on iTunes then we put out a 5 star social media image with the review from the show. It's a fully comprehensive per week social media strategy that's encapsulated from the day that the episode releases all the way through pulling back a previous episode and wrapping it up with a review for the show. Below is a transcription of this episode: Voice Over: If you're ready to launch a podcast or you're currently podcasting and want to kick things up a notch here's another infopod from Produce your Podcast designed to take your show to the next level. Traci DeForge: When I launched my own podcast which is Journey to There; Exploring the intersection between personal and business growth. I know myself well enough to know in my business development strategy company that my clients almost always come first before anything else. And so in order for me to have a consistent and well executed show I was going to need a lot of support and that's when Russ didn't just show up in my life for twenty five years or more but I texted him from an airport when I was traveling back and said, Do you produce podcasts?" And he said, "For you I would" and the Rest was history. And then we developed all of the systems and all the first full service turn key aspect of it because we know there are a lot of people like me who just don't want to touch anything but. Just have fun. Voice Over: Our experts are here to elevate your podcast Produce Your Podcast is a full service turnkey podcast consulting agency. Visit our website at produceyourpodcast.com.
