In this summer repeat, Patrick and Jonah turn from the mystery of heaven toward the mystery of hell. Beginning again with Christ's words in John 8, “I am the light of the world,” they ask what this light means in relation to darkness, death, and the fallen world. The conversation explores biblical images of hell as distance from God: the belly of the beast, the depths of the sea, the dust realm, the pit, and the powers of death that threaten to bind the human soul to what is passing away. Patrick and Jonah consider how Christ enters this realm not by escaping death, but by passing through it, transforming death itself into a servant of life.Together they reflect on Golgotha as the decisive encounter between the light of Christ and the powers of darkness, and on what it means for human beings to remain connected to heaven on earth even in the presence of despair. At the heart of the episode is the Easter mystery: that the place of death can become the very place where new life begins.Ask us a question here!Support the showThe Light in Every Thing is a podcast of The Seminary of The Christian Community in North America. Even as air quality warnings have been issues as a result of raging fires in the Western USA, we once again find ourselves in the midst of camping season, So, while campgrounds are on our minds, why not think creatively about how to sustain those resources while contributing to environmental justice? As you'll hear in this episode in the Climate Brewing Series that originally aired in July of 2024, there are several things we can do. Join host Susan Oxley, as she sits down with fellow Climate Justice Team member, Joan Thompson, to discuss some of those “doable” things. You may be surprised at how easy some of these ideas are to implement. In a denomination where camping has had a huge impact on communal and spiritual growth... we can't afford to do nothing. Last academic year colleges and universities across the US struggled with whether to mandate COVID vaccinations for their students. While colleges often require vaccines, the political controversy surrounding the COVID shots made adopting a vaccine policy a complicated undertaking. But according to one study, it had a profound impact on the national COVID death toll last fall. That's the focus of this episode of Stats and Stories with guest Riley Acton. Riley Acton is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Miami University, as well as a Research Affiliate at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) and the College Crisis Initiative (C2i). She is an applied microeconomist who specializes in labor economics and the economics of education. Her current work examines the causes and consequences of decisions made by higher education institutions, the effect of local labor market shocks on K-12 and college students, and the impact of school finance policies on educational outcomes.

What happens when the founder of Mint.com takes on one of healthcare's most broken experiences—patient communication? In this episode of Bright Spots in Healthcare, Eric Glazer sits down with Aaron Patzer, Founder and CEO of Vital, to explore how simplicity, clarity, and human-centered design can drive real impact in healthcare. Drawing from his journey building Mint, Aaron shares why most healthcare technology misses the mark, how better communication improves outcomes and ROI, and what leaders must do to design experiences people actually use. The conversation goes deep on: Why simplifying complexity—not adding more tech—is the real innovation How better patient communication drives measurable ROI for hospitals What healthcare leaders can learn from consumer tech about trust, adoption, and engagement The leadership principles Aaron relies on when innovating inside highly regulated, slow-moving systems If you're a healthcare leader navigating digital transformation, AI investment decisions, or experience strategy, this episode offers clear thinking, hard-earned lessons, and proof that when you make it easier for people to understand what's happening, everything works better. References: Book Reference - The Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman About Aaron: Aaron Patzer is a renowned entrepreneur, engineer, and innovator best known as the founder of Mint.com, the personal finance platform that revolutionized money management for millions of users. After launching Mint in 2007, Patzer led it to rapid success, growing the user base to over 25 million and overseeing its acquisition by Intuit in 2009. A passionate advocate for user-centered design and simplicity in complex systems, Patzer built Mint.com by combining his technical acumen with a deep understanding of user experience and behavioral finance. He holds degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and a Master's from Princeton University. Following Mint, Patzer continued to push boundaries in tech and health innovation. He co-founded Vital, a healthcare startup focused on improving hospital emergency room, urgent care, and inpatient experiences using AI and design thinking. Ranked by KLAS as #1 in patient experience, Vital achieves concrete results: 30–50% fewer LWOBS/AMA, 10–15% higher NPS, stronger HCAHPS scores, reduced ED bounce- back, and 10% lower 30-day readmissions. Designed to integrate seamlessly with existing EHR systems, Vital provides a user-friendly interface that engages patients, resulting in 60%+ adoption rates, 5-10x higher than the competition. In this solo episode, Travis Chappell breaks down eye-opening stats from a five-year study on the daily habits that separate the wealthy from the poor. From credit score savvy to flossing and networking, he shares personal stories—like the time his truck's wheel fell off in Las Vegas—and actionable mindset shifts to level up your financial game. On this episode we talk about: The massive gap in credit score awareness (72% wealthy vs. 5% poor) and Travis's wild credit drop after maxing a business card Why the poor play the lottery 77% vs. just 6% of the wealthy—and how it traps you in a scarcity mindset Goal focus, flossing, fitness, and screen time stats that reveal how self-discipline builds wealth Networking (79% wealthy spend 5+ hours/month), the 80/20 rule, and rejecting "random luck" as your wealth plan The ultimate divider: 79% of wealthy take full responsibility for their finances vs. 18% of the poor Top 3 Takeaways 1. Know your credit score and how utilization/inquiries work—it unlocks better rates and leverage, even if Dave Ramsey disagrees. 2. Focus on one big goal, cut recreational screen time under 1 hour/day, and network relentlessly—small habits compound into wealth. 3. Own your financial situation 100%, regardless of fault; responsibility is where wealth creation truly begins. Notable Quotes "72% of the wealthy know their credit score versus 5% of the poor." "Your ability to create wealth for yourself will depend on your ability to take full responsibility for your situation." "The more shots on goal you take, the more likely it is that you're going to hit one in." During the summer break, the 15-Minute History team will be republishing some of your favorite episodes. This episode originally aired on November 3, 2025.---In the popular mind, John Adams' life and one term as President of the United States is often treated as a footnote alongside the careers of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington. But Adams left an indelible mark on his country's history. So as we continue our look into the revolutionary period, this episode shares three elements from his life that capture the essence of this fascinating man.
Travis Chappell solo-hosts this episode of Travis Makes Money, sharing hard-won life lessons from his own journey as a creator, entrepreneur, and podcast coach. He breaks down mindset traps that keep people stuck—like perfectionism, negativity bias, and emotional reactivity—and offers practical tools for building resilience, happiness, and momentum in both life and business. Through stories, analogies, and real-life examples (including a tense pickup basketball game), Travis gives listeners concrete ways to rewire their thinking for long-term success and peace of mind. On this episode we talk about: Why “done is better than perfect” and how perfectionism turns into procrastination The importance of shipping imperfect work to get real-world feedback How to hardwire happiness by revisiting positive moments and strengthening neural pathways Using gratitude and visualization to combat negativity bias and anxiety Stoic principles: external events vs. your perception and reaction Practical strategies to pause before reacting and respond in ways that serve your goals Top 3 Takeaways Done beats perfect every time. Waiting for perfection keeps you from ever launching the book, product, or podcast that will actually teach you what needs to improve. You can train your brain toward happiness. By intensifying and revisiting moments of joy and gratitude, you widen the mental “paths” that make it easier to access positive emotional states. Events aren't the problem—your reaction is. Your long-term happiness is tied less to what happens and more to the way you choose to interpret and respond, especially in emotionally charged moments. Notable Quotes “Done is better than perfect, because perfectionism is just procrastination in disguise.” “The ability to be happy or grateful in the absence of reasons to be is a superpower.” “External events are not the problem. It's your perception of them that's the problem.” Connect with Travis Chappell: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travischappell Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/traviscchappell Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/travischappell Other: https://travischappell.com A Word from Our Sponsors:- Visit DrinkAG1.com/TMM to get a free AG1 Travel Case with 7 free AG1Travel Packs in your Welcome Kit with your first AG1 subscription order while supplieslast. - Go to Leesa.com for 30% OFF select mattresses (through July 12, 2026) PLUS get an extra $50 off with promo code TMM, exclusive for my listeners - To learn more about Mode Mobile and its investor community, go to https://invest.modemobile.com/travismakesmoney -Travis Makes Money is made possible by High Level – the All-In-One Sales & Marketing Platform built for agencies, by an agency.Capture leads, nurture them, and close more deals—all from one powerful platform.Get an extended free trial at gohighlevel.com/travis Learn more about your ad choices. In this summer repeat, Patrick and Jonah continue their conversation on heaven and hell by exploring the “three heavens”: the primal heaven from which we come and to which we return in sleep and death, the hidden kingdom of heaven now present on earth through Christ, and the future New Jerusalem toward which creation is moving.Together they ask what it means that Christ is “the Lord of the heavenly forces upon earth,” and why the earth is the place where human freedom, moral responsibility, and sacrificial love can truly awaken. The conversation moves through the mystery of death, near-death experience, the soul's journey, reincarnation, purification, and the ongoing work of becoming human beings who can shine with the light of Christ. At the heart of the episode is the picture that the heaven we often imagine as the final destination is not simply where we go when we die, but the fruit of a long creative process already beginning in us, between us, and on the earth.Ask us a question here!Support the showThe Light in Every Thing is a podcast of The Seminary of The Christian Community in North America. This episode was originally published on March 16th, 2017. The term "ghosting" isn't a new concept anymore—the idea that someone suddenly and inexplicably disappears from your life. In the past, a total halt to communication with a friend might leave you feeling concerned that something bad happened to him/her. But at a time when our devices have made us more accessible than ever, this can leave the person who's been ghosted feeling rejected or unworthy. The Sugars discuss ghosting with the essayist and cartoonist Tim Kreider. He's the author of We Learn Nothing, a collection of essays that includes a story about being ghosted by a childhood friend.
On this solo episode, host Travis Chappell breaks down one of the core values that has transformed his life and business: radical responsibility. Drawing from his background in door-to-door sales, leadership, and entrepreneurship, Travis shares hard-earned lessons about refusing to blame circumstances and instead reclaiming control over outcomes. Through real stories—from struggling sales reps to young first-time employees and heavy life situations like health crises—he lays out a practical, mindset-first framework for taking ownership so you can actually change your results. On this episode we talk about: Why adopting your own values (instead of inherited beliefs) is essential to growth. What radical responsibility really means and how it differs from simple self-awareness. The difference between “producing results” and “producing excuses” in sales and business. How taking ownership (even when it doesn't feel like your fault) gives you power and control back. Why fault and responsibility are not the same—and how this applies to unfair or painful life circumstances. Top 3 Takeaways Radical responsibility is the starting point for becoming the person you want to be; if nothing is ever your fault, there is no path to improvement. You are always producing something—either results or excuses—and only those who own their mistakes can actually learn, adjust, and win long term. Something can be “not your fault” and still 100% your responsibility; you can't control the cards you're dealt, but you can control how you play them. Notable Quotes “Everybody produces. You're just either producing results or you're producing excuses.” “Blame feels good, but it destroys all agency. Responsibility gives you your power back.” “You can't control the cards that you get dealt, but it is your responsibility to play them to the best of your ability.” Connect with Travis Chappell: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travischappell Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/traviscchappell Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/travischappell Other: https://www.travischappell.com A Word from Our Sponsors:- Visit DrinkAG1.com/TMM to get a free AG1 Travel Case with 7 free AG1Travel Packs in your Welcome Kit with your first AG1 subscription order while supplieslast. There is no shame in being thankful for one's blessings, especially as they relate to one's country of origin or residence...as long as the gratitude is grounded in an understanding that God doesn't favor any one nation over another. After all, God is God of all the nations. It's important to remember that people everywhere are God's children ... all of whom have common hopes and dreams. Join host Robin Linkhart for a spiritual practice of dwelling in a hymn that helps us remember just that. Harold Carter, PharmD, SVP of Trade Relations, joins host Eric Glazer to discuss how one of the nation's largest PBMs is navigating this disruptive moment in healthcare. Harold shares how Express Scripts is: Capping costs of GLP-1 therapies to expand patient access while keeping plan spending predictable. Redesigning funding models to strike a balance between affordability, predictability, and outcomes. Leveraging digital tools and AI to reduce friction in the member experience and support long-term adherence. Rethinking formularies not just as cost-control tools but as part of a broader population health and behavioral change ecosystem. You'll also hear his forward-looking perspective on how PBMs will evolve over the next three to five years, and the key questions health plans and employers should be asking today to prepare for the future of pharmacy benefits. In this solo episode, Travis Chappell reflects on his conversation with Whitney Miller—a former Miss USA, MMA competitor, and now country music singer-songwriter. Whitney's journey is a masterclass in reinvention, proving that success isn't about staying in one lane forever—it's about having the courage to pursue what truly calls you. Travis shares the biggest lessons from their conversation on following your passion, embracing change, and surrounding yourself with the right people. On this episode we talk about: Why the dream you keep avoiding may be the one you're meant to pursue The power of saying yes before you feel ready Why reinvention is a strength—not a lack of commitment How relationships create opportunities, especially in competitive industries Why intentional networking is more effective than cutting people out of your life Top 3 Takeaways Persistent desires deserve your attention. If a dream keeps resurfacing despite your other accomplishments, it may be pointing you toward the work you're truly meant to do. Growth comes from action, not readiness. Saying yes before you feel fully prepared creates opportunities that confidence alone never will. Relationships are often the biggest career multiplier. Talent and hard work matter, but the people who believe in you and open doors can dramatically accelerate your path. Notable Quotes "The thing that you keep running from is the thing that you're supposed to run toward." "Saying yes before you're ready is always the move." "You don't have to cut people off. Just be intentional about who you seek out." In this summer repeat, Patrick and Jonah continue their conversation on the mysteries of heaven and hell by exploring what it means for Christ to be “the Lord of the heavenly forces upon earth.” Beginning with John 8:12 and the image of Christ as the light of the world, they consider the ancient experience of the skies, sun, moon, stars, and seasons as living revelations of divine activity. The conversation moves through Psalm 19, ancient sacred sites aligned with the sun, the Hebrew movement away from worshiping created things, and the Christian understanding that the heavenly forces have come to earth through Christ. Patrick and Jonah reflect on how these forces are no longer simply “out there” in the heavens, but are meant to awaken within human beings as light, wisdom, love, and moral strength.Together they ask how human beings can learn to shine without burning out, how community can become a constellation of light, and how Golgotha becomes not only an event in history, but a living reality within us.Ask us a question here!Support the showThe Light in Every Thing is a podcast of The Seminary of The Christian Community in North America. In this solo episode, Travis Chappell reflects on his conversation with entrepreneur and business coach Tanner Chidester. After transforming his life through fitness, Tanner went on to build multiple eight-figure coaching businesses and generate more than $120 million in sales. Travis breaks down the biggest lessons from their conversation, covering confidence, success, trust, and why meaning matters just as much as money. On this episode we talk about: Why proving that effort creates results can permanently change your mindset How real confidence is built through evidence, not affirmations Why achieving your biggest financial goal won't automatically bring fulfillment The growing importance of trust and authenticity in online business Why you shouldn't form opinions about people from short clips and social media sound bites Top 3 Takeaways Confidence is earned through action. Every challenge you overcome becomes evidence that you can figure out the next one, making confidence transferable across every area of life. Money doesn't answer life's biggest questions. Reaching financial goals often creates space for deeper questions about purpose, fulfillment, and the impact you want to have. Trust is today's most valuable business asset. In a crowded online marketplace, delivering real value and building credibility will outperform hype and empty promises over the long term. Notable Quotes "The first time you prove to yourself that effort produces results, it is life-changing." "Confidence isn't something you talk yourself into. It's something you build with evidence." "You can't form a real opinion about someone from sound bites." Do you have heart flutters, palpitations, or chest tightness , but your EKG comes back "perfect" and your stress test says you're fine? Dr. Chris Motley breaks down a connection most doctors never check: the direct link between your kidneys, bladder, and urinary tract system and the health of your heart. In this episode, Dr. Motley explains how hidden kidney infections, bladder infections, UTIs, and even kidney stones can create heart palpitations, brain fog, tingling in the hands and feet, and shortness of breath — all while standard urine tests come back completely normal. He breaks down why most UTI testing only screens for E. coli and misses dozens of other bacteria, fungi, and parasites that can colonize your urinary tract. What is the Christian Church? Why is it important for Christians to meet together in fellowship and worship? In a social climate where division and marginalization of others seem to be trending in the wrong direction, it's important for us to remember the place and purpose of the Church. Join host Carla Long and guests Tony and Charmaine Chvala-Smith for this discussion on various models the church can be and its theological purpose as they explore the term "ecclesiology," which originally aired on January 9, 2020. "If what I want is for someone else to respect my time, then maybe I'm the one who needs to respect my time first." Oof. That realization hit me right between the eyes. Have you ever noticed how quickly frustration turns into a story about someone else? The person who cancelled. The coworker who dropped the ball. The partner who isn't helping. The kids who need one more thing. And sometimes that's true. But sometimes the thing you're frustrated with isn't actually the problem. "Your frustration isn't the problem. It's the clue." Sometimes frustration is the moment your needs, boundaries, exhaustion, or truth have been trying to get your attention for a while—and you've been too busy carrying everything else to hear them. In this solo episode, I'm unpacking two frustrating experiences from my own life and walking you through the exact process I use to understand what frustration might actually be trying to tell me. Because emotions aren't the problem. They're information. And frustration is one of the most revealing emotions we have. Together we'll explore why frustration almost never stands alone, how it can point us toward unmet needs and hidden truths, and a simple framework you can use to move from irritation to clarity. In This Episode • Why frustration is always trying to tell you something • The surprising difference between being frustrated with someone else and being frustrated with yourself • How irritation can reveal needs you've been overlooking • Why emotions work like an internal compass • A simple reflection process you can use anytime frustration shows up • The powerful shift that happens when you stop asking "Why am I so frustrated?" and start asking "What is this trying to teach me?" Three Takeaways Your frustration isn't the problem. It's the clue. Frustration often points toward something important that needs your attention. Sometimes frustration is what happens when you've abandoned yourself. Not intentionally. Not dramatically. Just quietly, one small compromise at a time. Emotional clarity begins with curiosity. The goal isn't to get rid of the feeling. It's to understand what it's trying to show you. Reflection Question What would your frustration say if it trusted you enough to tell you the truth? Before you go... If this episode felt like a conversation you needed today, would you share it with someone who might need it too? Follow the podcast, leave a rating or review, and help more high-functioning humans with big feelings find a little more clarity, connection, and calm without having to earn it.
