The biggest threat to grid modernization? It might be hiding in your GIS. Utilities are racing toward smarter, more dynamic grid systems—layering on DERs, EVs, ADMS, and DERMS. But there's a hidden bottleneck holding everything back: the massive disconnect between field data and back-office systems. In this episode of Power Perspectives, Adrian McNulty, Vice President of Utility Solutions at IQGeo, joins to dig into why real-time, mobile-first GIS systems are the unsung heroes of the modern grid. Adrian draws from more than two decades of experience in utility software to explain why outdated systems and poor field connectivity are dragging down the potential of advanced grid technologies—and how forward-thinking utilities are fixing it. Tune in to learn why traditional GIS platforms are falling short in the DER era, what it means to truly unify the field and the office around a single source of truth, and how utilities can streamline tools into one spatial solution. Every Sunday, millions watched him deliver breaking NFL news with his signature confidence, but what they couldn't see was the panic attack often happening behind his eyes. Send Steve a Text MessageHave you ever hit a plateau in your guitar playing despite hours of practice? The missing piece might not be more practice videos or tab books, but something far more valuable: honest assessment and feedback.Steve Stine delves into why receiving quality evaluation of your playing is absolutely essential for guitar progress. Drawing from decades of teaching experience, he explains that without proper assessment, guitarists often develop blind spots—technical issues or inefficient approaches they simply cannot see themselves. As Steve puts it, "You don't know what you don't know," which perfectly captures why external feedback is irreplaceable. The discussion explores practical aspects of finding the right assessment source, whether through formal lessons or trusted musical friends. Steve emphasizes creating a comfortable environment where you can play without performance anxiety, selecting someone whose opinion comes from a genuine place of wanting to help rather than criticize. He shares his approach to giving constructive feedback—focusing on one or two key areas rather than overwhelming students with a laundry list of corrections, and using the "compliment sandwich" method to keep motivation high while addressing areas for improvement.Whether you're struggling with picking technique, finger positioning, or playing through complete songs, targeted assessment helps identify the specific adjustments that will make the biggest difference in your playing. Steve invites listeners to explore the GuitarZoom Academy, where personalized assessment and structured guidance create a roadmap to help you achieve your specific guitar goals. Ready to break through your playing barriers? The right feedback might be all you need. Story at-a-glance Your immune system's frontline defenders, called neutrophils, are most powerful in the early morning when activated by daylight exposure Light works like an internal alarm, switching your immune response on at the right time and boosting your body's ability to fight infection When you stay up late, miss morning sunlight or get too much artificial light at night, your immune rhythm falls out of sync, leaving you more vulnerable Research shows that your immune system is not only reactive but timed, meaning when you're exposed to pathogens matters as much as how your body fights them Simple changes, like getting outside in the morning and limiting screen use before bed, reprogram your immune system to respond faster and more effectively

Overdrive's June Trucker of the Month Scott Smith, owner-operator of Sapphire Cartage out of Searcy, Arkansas, has a couple of secret weapons when it comes to bookkeeping, tax accounting and business analysis. The first is his wife, Stephanie, who after time in the health care field and then with Scott rearing four young children, found new work Scott Smith describes in this week's edition of Overdrive Radio. Stephanie's built accounting expertise as support for a small-biz accounting software system, and her expert handling of the Sapphire Cartage back office has taken that load off of the independent. The second of those secret weapons regular readers encountered in the June 30 feature detailing Smith's history trucking: https://www.overdriveonline.com/trucker-of-the-year/article/15749527/trucker-of-the-month-bets-on-equipment-diversity-as-failsafe Namely, it's a custom spreadsheet the owner-operator built himself to effectively analyze per-ton rates in the hopper-bottom freight business when it comes to load offers. But not only that -- it's his go-to tool for week-to-week business performance as well. As was detailed in the story, Smith uses the spreadsheet to set revenues against not only hard costs like those for fuel but his weekly home needs, his own personal driver salary, if you will. What he needs to contribute to household take-home figures as an expense there, on a weekly basis. What he describes in the podcast brings to mind in some ways Overdrive's own Load Profit Analyzer tool you can access at any time to game out rate scenarios or compare load offers: https://overdriveonline.com/load-analyzer With that tool, using your own fixed cost per day, variable cost per mile and that self-pay salary figure per day to then compare as many loads as you like for profit potential, you too can set those driver-pay needs to be calculated on the expense side of the profit analysis. For June Trucker of the Month Scott Smith, though, it's his own system that accounts for all of it -- indeed a now not-so-secret weapon we'd wager many owners out there might do well to emulate in whatever form works best for the operation. In the podcast, hear more about Smith's operation and history trucking from the start, back in the early 2010s when like many out there he just happened into a love for the road via work in a different sector than the hopper- and flatbed-hauling work he does today. "I know we live in an age where people avoid commitment. We avoid committing to a job, a marriage, a country, a church. So, all around us there are these “floating believers” who hop from church to church … when they choose to go at all. There are a whole lot of Christians who are looking to get fed, but with no real desire to do whatever they can to contribute to the health of their family. It's kind of like … kind of like a guy who hops around the neighborhood from house to house looking for a meal and bed for the night, but never really contributing to those who serve him. That wouldn't work, would it? According to the apostle Paul, it's kind of like a body part – a hand, or a foot, or an elbow, or a knee, that refuses to attach to a body. Or maybe, this week I'll attach to his body, and the next week I'll attach to hers. Kind of a stupid picture, isn't it? Listen: “You are members of God's very own family … and you belong in God's household with every other Christian.” You were not made to go it alone. Together we give and we are given to, together we serve and we are served, together we love and we are loved … if a church family does it right. And life is better."
Steve Forbes explains that President Trump can take on the Federal Reserve in its intransigent refusal to cut rates: have the Treasury issue bonds in gold, which would provide a simple, everyday metric as to whether Washington is undermining the dollar's integrity or maintaining its value.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this week's episode of the Jewellers Academy podcast, host Elin Horgan is joined by Hannah Royce-Greensill, founder of Slab Jewellery, whose path to becoming a full-time jeweller began in an unexpected place, freelance web design. Hannah shares how she balanced both careers in the early stages, using her digital skills to support herself while slowly and steadily growing her jewellery business. Hannah opens up about the power of being bold in growing her jewellery business and how a single, heartfelt Instagram post about her dream to be stocked at Clifton Rocks in Bristol led to real-world results. With guidance on refining her collection and setting pricing with stockists in mind, Hannah began transforming her creative passion into a sustainable, professional business. We also dive into her unique approach to events and selling. Rather than traditional craft fairs, Hannah found success in alternative spaces like tattoo conventions, where her hand-carved skulls and spiky designs resonate deeply with the crowd. She shares how travelling to new cities has helped her build a following and forge lasting connections. Even without formal training, Hannah's journey shows how belief in your work, customer engagement, and smart business planning can fuel a thriving jewellery brand. At 96 years old, Jimmy Pattison still runs his $16 billion empire personally. He's built it over 63 years without outside capital or a college degree. He owns 100% of car dealerships, billboards, radio stations—even Ripley's Believe It or Not—with a philosophy of: "No partners, no shareholders, no relatives." This episode reveals the principles behind one of North America's great private empires: how to build and compound a reputation, why the best deals happen in silence, and what a Japanese bicycle taught him about operational excellence. You'll learn the hidden advantage of selling “souvenir editions” instead of newspapers, how he turned a ghost radio station into a ratings leader overnight, and why he once fired the entire bottom 10% of his staff—then took them out for steak. Most people play for approval. Pattison plays for permanence through reputation, relentless clarity, and never mistaking flash for fundamentals. This episode is for informational purposes only and is based on Jimmy: An Autobiography by Jim Pattison and Paul Grescoe.
