There are two ways to get saving for your children wrong. You can undersave and leave your kids with student loans. You can oversave and hand a nineteen year old a pile of money with no strings attached. Physician families tend to worry about the first one and end up closer to the second. In our new episode, we discuss which accounts help keep you out of both ditches! We also answer your colleagues' questions A Surgeon in Arizona says, “My portfolio has drifted way off from where I set it a few years ago because stocks ran up so much. Do I actually need to rebalance, and if so, how do I do it without triggering a big tax bill?” A Hospitalist in Texas asks, “I've got a 401(k), a Roth IRA, an HSA, and a taxable brokerage account, and I have no idea what's supposed to go where. Does it matter which investments live in which account, or can I just buy the same thing across all of them?” A Gastro doc in Michigan writes, “Every time the market drops, I get the urge to sell and wait until things calm down. Is there ever a good reason for a long-term investor to move to cash, or is that always a mistake?” Are you ready to turn worries about taxes and investing into a plan for college and retirement? Welcome to Season 6 of the Pass the Baton podcast! As a new school year begins, Kathryn and Theresa kick off the season by looking beyond lesson plans, classroom setup, and first-day logistics to explore the invisible decisions that shape the entire year. Through five reflective questions, they discuss what teachers can truly control, what students should own, how classroom routines communicate trust, when compliance is necessary (and when it isn't), and which traditions are worth keeping—or reimagining. Together, they challenge listeners to create learning environments that prioritize student ownership, creativity, and meaningful engagement from day one.Rather than offering another back-to-school checklist, this conversation encourages educators to begin the year with intentionality. Kathryn and Theresa share practical examples from their own classrooms while reminding listeners that small mindset shifts can have a lasting impact on students' confidence and growth. The episode concludes with a simple intentions exercise, inviting teachers to reflect on what they want students to leave their classroom believing, what they will stop doing this year, and what they want students to truly own as learners.Join the Back-to-School Challenge! Check out the Coffee Club back-to-school sale - good through August 31, 2026. A note from our Sponsor:You Love Teaching. Episode 666 - How Running Helped Kat Booth Rebuild Her Life

    The FitMIND FitBODY Podcast

In this episode of the ZenRUN Podcast, I chat with the wonderfully energetic, endlessly entertaining and slightly foot-obsessed Kat Booth. If you have been anywhere near the Delirious W.E.S.T. events, you may already know Kat as the nurse who appears when your feet have stopped resembling feet. She is the calm, capable and very funny person runners trust with their blisters, wounds, mysterious swelling, chafing, exhaustion, hallucinations and occasionally very questionable toes. But there is so much more to Kat than feet. Kat grew up in Western Australia and loved running and cross-country from an early age. Sprinting was never her thing, but give her about a kilometre to warm up and she was ready to keep going. Her nursing career began with a slightly rocky start when she failed her first haematology exam and was promptly removed from nursing school. Rather than giving up, Kat went away, worked in aged care, reapplied the following year and returned determined to prove she belonged there. She worked her backside off, passed the same subject with an excellent result and went on to build a fascinating career across orthopaedics, plastics, skin grafting, wound care, education and health program management. Along the way, Kat also somehow found herself running errands through Airtasker, chasing an escaped chicken down the street, delivering hundreds of plants, building furniture, creating grazing boards inspired by trails, finding a stranger's passport hidden inside socks and helping her mum darn a collection of expensive flamingo socks for a very grateful burly bloke. As you do. Behind Kat's humour and huge personality is also an extraordinary story of survival. After experiencing serious violence in a relationship, Kat was left with an acquired traumatic brain injury. She had to relearn how to walk, write, speak and navigate everyday life. There is a period of around two years that she still cannot remember. Her recovery involved jumbo pencils, repeating the same songs until she could find words again, artwork, ballroom dancing, handstands, walking enormous distances and slowly learning to trust her body and brain. Running became an important part of that recovery. After experiencing panic attacks and feeling afraid to return to the community, Kat began attending parkrun and later volunteered at a Light Horse event. There, she discovered Ultra Series, trail running and a community where she felt safe. Naturally, after a major brain injury and problems with balance, Kat decided that running over rocks in the dark with a head torch sounded like an excellent idea. And remarkably, it helped. Trail running improved her balance, strength and confidence. It also reduced her parkrun time from around 33 minutes to approximately 27:30. Kat eventually stepped onto the other side of the event herself at Light Horse, where she completed an incredible 62.7 kilometres without a watch, a distance goal or even a blister. Unfortunately, a serious sesamoid injury and the return of foot-drop symptoms have now brought Kat's running to an unexpected end. She speaks honestly about the sadness of losing something that helped her so deeply, while also finding new ways to remain part of the trails she loves. Kat is now preparing to walk the 21-kilometre event at Tarawera with friends and is determined to keep moving, exploring and contributing to the running community. We also talk about Kat's incredible travels, including Oktoberfest, living in Whistler, meeting Kevin Costner, surfing in Bali, eating twice-daily gelato in Florence and being stalked by a cougar during her very first multi-day hike on Canada's West Coast Trail. And, of course, we hear some classic stories from her time as a Delirious medic, including sleep-deprived hallucinations, seriously battered feet and the memorable day a nearly 70-year-old runner tried caffeine for the first time during a 200-mile race. This episode is funny, honest, moving and full of reminders that life does not always go to plan, but it can still be fascinating, adventurous and full of beautiful moments. Kat's Tips for Runners Kat encourages runners to occasionally leave the watch, pace goals and headphones behind. Take your phone for safety, but allow yourself to run without worrying about distance, speed or what the session is supposed to achieve. Listen to the birds, notice the trail and allow your body to tell you what it needs that day. It does not have to be part of a training plan. Sometimes, the best run is simply the one where you head outside, explore and have fun. Kat also reminds us to appreciate the small moments. A city view from the trail, adding a rock to a cairn, leaving a tiny surprise for another runner or even successfully cooking the perfect soft-boiled egg can all become moments worth celebrating. And if you are running a very long event, look after your feet early. Do not wait until the blister, rubbing or swelling becomes a major problem before asking for help. Pass the Baton Kat answers Sally Pymer's question: What makes you smile the most on your runs? Her answer includes birds, beautiful city views, rock piles and tiny fruit characters secretly left beside the trail to make other people smile. Kat also leaves a very fitting question for the next ZenRUN Podcast guest. You will need to listen to the episode to hear what it is. This is a conversation about running, recovery, adventure, community, brains, feet, flamingo socks and making the most of your 4,000 weeks. Enjoy!

PPP 518 | Why Better AI Prompts Aren't Enough for Better Decisions, with author Cheryl Strauss Einhorn

Summary In this episode, Andy welcomes Cheryl Strauss Einhorn, founder and CEO of the decision sciences company Decisive and author of The Human Edge: Smarter Decisions in the Age of AI. Cheryl has spent decades helping people make better decisions, and her message here is a simple one: AI can gather, summarize, and compare, but it can't know what matters most unless we do the thinking first. Andy and Cheryl talk about why "AI first" can quietly turn into AI only, and why a poor answer from AI is actually useful feedback about your own thinking. Cheryl explains why separating the what of a decision from the why can change the path forward, shares her vision of success question, and walks through how human bias and AI bias reinforce each other. You'll also hear a practical way to use AI personas to pressure test your thinking before a big stakeholder conversation, plus what parents can do to help kids strengthen their decision-making muscles instead of letting them atrophy. If you're looking for practical ways to make smarter decisions in the age of AI, this episode is for you! Sound Bites "AI is about patterns, but we're about purpose." "We need to be the chief deciders in our own life." "We need to make sure that we actually have a way to push back and check the veracity of what it's giving us because it's a known liar." "And so the authenticity of human interaction is what actually builds trust, strengthens relationships, and really gives us a lot of the connections that are important to us in our home life and our work life." "You don't need to have a perfect prompt for AI." "AI is going to give you other people's answers." "'Knowledge is power' isn't as true now. It's what you are able to do with the knowledge, and it's why you want to collect the knowledge in the first place." "I almost never would accept AI's first answer." "We tend to have evolving hypotheses unless we really build an audit trail of our thinking." "So in the world of medicine, a fever tells you something is wrong, but it tells you nothing about what is wrong or where to look." "So first we know AI's a sycophant, right?" "If it's 99% accurate in its conclusion, but its underlying data is the wrong data set, you've got the wrong answer." "I would say the more that I've studied these cognitive biases, these mental shortcuts, the more I realize that we see the world through a dirty windshield." "Our brains are muscles, and just like we exercise to strengthen our muscles, if we don't exercise, they atrophy." Chapters 00:00 Introduction 02:00 Start of Interview 02:12 Growing Up Surrounded by Questions 04:30 What Leaders Should Watch Out for in "AI First" 07:07 When AI Confidently Makes Things Up 09:04 How AI First Turns into AI Only 09:20 Why Polished Doesn't Mean Authentic 11:59 A Prompting Problem or a Problem Definition Problem? 14:37 The Vision of Success Question 15:45 Why a Bad Answer Is Useful Feedback 19:06 Separating the What from the Why 20:32 Research: More Information Isn't Better Judgment 24:35 Progressive Prompting and Never Accepting the First Answer 25:18 Fabricated Quotes and the Trouble with Attribution 26:50 Documenting Assumptions and Building an Audit Trail 29:25 Committing to Your Own Thinking 32:29 How Human Bias and AI Bias Reinforce Each Other 34:55 Knowing About Biases Doesn't Make You Immune 36:51 Using AI Personas to Challenge Your Thinking 40:20 AI and Stakeholder Management 42:42 Helping Kids Become Better Decision-Makers 44:25 End of Interview 44:51 Andy Comments After the Interview 48:13 Outtakes Learn More You can learn more about Cheryl and her work at AREAMethod.com. For more learning on this topic, check out: Episode 460 with Joe Sutherland. It's an interesting look at the intersection of AI, data, and decision-making, and a great follow-up to this discussion. Beau Martonik sits down with Joel Burham of Whitetail Fit, who moved to Iowa, got his residency, turned down an invite to a phenomenal private farm, and hunted public ground and only public ground for the whole season to see what it would teach him. They get into the full self-filming rig Joel runs out of a saddle, the buck he figured at 160 that he had broadside at 20 yards and lost to the camera, the two public land giants he found that will never show up in a video, and what happened when he came to full draw on a three-and-a-half-year-old and let down. Joel also lays out the only test he uses to decide whether a deer is worth his tag, which has nothing to do with a score. Also covered: starting from zero with no hunting family, three miles deep on Kansas public on the last day of a 10-day hunt, hiring his brother as a cameraman and then telling him he'd outgrown the job, and why time is the one thing in hunting you can't shortcut. 00:00:00 — Intro 00:07:09 — Starting with no hunting family 00:12:04 — First deer off a lawn chair 00:15:22 — Where "Whitetail Fit" came from 00:19:57 — Three miles deep on Kansas public 00:22:16 — How fitness changes your access 00:38:13 — What this job really looks like 00:47:49 — The 160 at 20 yards he passed 00:58:28 — Hiring his brother, then letting go 01:11:16 — Self-filming rig for a saddle 01:16:38 — Bodies, lenses, and low light 01:29:56 — Arm height, ISO, shutter speed 01:39:10 — Iowa public land only 01:46:57 — The bucks that never made the film 01:49:56 — Pressure and older deer 01:54:43 — The 190 and a wind switch 02:01:29 — Full draw, then let down 02:10:00 — What makes you grab your bow 02:19:34 — Where to find Whitetail Fit Joel's IG: https://www.instagram.com/whitetail_fit/ Whitetail Fit YT: https://www.youtube.com/@WhitetailFit Instagram:   @eastmeetswesthunt @beau.martonik Facebook:   East Meets West Outdoors Shop Hunting Gear and Apparel: https://www.eastmeetswesthunt.com/ YouTube: Beau Martonik - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQJon93sYfu9HUMKpCMps3w Partner Discounts and Affiliate Links: https://www.eastmeetswesthunt.com/partners Amazon Influencer Page https://www.amazon.com/shop/beau.martonik Learn more about your ad choices.
