Meet Lola, a stripper of almost 15 years who started dancing in 2007 comes onto the podcast to talk extensively about her entrance to the stripping industry, the importance of harm reduction and obtaining an ideal stripping work environment. Seeing an increase in opioid overdoses in Philadelphia, she found it important to help educate people on harm reduction and how we can help others struggling with addiction. The strip club industry is primarily a nightlife industry and like any other nightlife environment strippers may be susceptible to harmful intoxicants or situations that might not be recognized as harmful. Lola explains the importance of harm reduction in a general sense as well as how it is vital for the stripping industry. They discuss different forms of harm reduction that branch out beyond drugs or alcohol as well as ethical club practices. What kind of organizations or groups such as a harm reduction coalitions will it take to help create a better work environment for strippers? Residing upstate, her club in Pennsylvania only opened up 3 months ago so we discuss her covid-19 experience. Lola found other forms of income during the pandemic such as life drawing through zoom and continuing her day job as a dental hygienist part time. Aurora and Lola go into the concept of the healing aspects of stripping like the intimacy of touch and having a person to converse with. The dichotomy between pole dancers and strippers has been a topic of discussion for several years now and it seems to not be settling. What can be fun fitness can be harmful without recognition of where pole came from. Can pole studios help humanize sex workers? Similarly to how burlesque became more accepted overtime, do pole fitness dancers hold a vital role in legitimizing our labor? Reach out to us to share your opinion! Do you like what you hear? The new SB315 bill that recently passed in Texas isn't something new to Alexandria. Recently having left Louisiana, she experienced the passing of a similar bill that effected the stripping community regardless of what age you were. In this episode, Alexandria and Aurora discuss the parallels of the two bills and how this will affect the future for Texas strippers. Alexandria is multifaceted with SW and also is working on a BS in psychology. We say it often, strippers are like therapists a lot of the time and we talk about how her schooling on the human psyche has been used inside and outside the club. Do you like what you hear? Meet our guest Layla, a multifaceted sex worker who began working on cam, boats and soon after the strip club. Born in Pakistan, Layla describes her experience with being doxxed numerous times, stripping in a predominantly white city to a more diverse city, becoming more accepting of her appearance and being a full time student. Now moving to NYC for grad school, Layla shares with us her thesis on decriminalizing sex work for the sake of public health. We also discuss the importance of organizing with your fellow sex workers in your community and how grassroots efforts are vital in moving towards decriminalization. Layla gives us an honest idea of what it takes to be a sex worker all the while accepting the hilarity behind some of the grievances we face in the industry. If you're a student who's interested in stripping or you're a student currently stripping looking for something relatable, this is it. In this two part episode of TPM, we go over some key points on Instagram and Facebook's policy list and community guidelines. What exactly are they and how can they affect strippers?
