I'm joined today by fan favorite author Lee Morgan to discuss his newest work, The Rag and Bone Man. This book has a 'head, heart, and hands' component that looks at the Victorian Age and Spiritualism and its relationship with witchcraft, from a research angle, from a creative writing angle, and finally from a practical grimoire one.Rag & Bone Man by Lee MorganWho comes meandering along your street in the dawn hours. He's looking for old things that still have a bit of fat left in them, including off-cuts of the dreams of outsiders. If you decide to stop and talk to him, he will tell you the old tales of how to tease out the teeming world of spirits that bulges behind our reality. The Rag & Bone Man's uncanny narrative, bookended with historical context and a grimoire inspired by the novel, bridges the gap between old ideas and new paradigms with a watchful eye focused on historical biases.Find the book and Lee:The Rag & Bone Man: https://www.crossedcrowbooks.com/shop-crossed-crow-books/p/the-rag-bone-man Website: https://www.leemorganbooks.com/Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/u19417687

Neptune transits Aries: 1/26/26- 3/23/2039: Impact on Your Zodiac Sign

Book your 2026 reading at : www.jilljardineastrology.com/shop Buy Jill's Book:  Sacred Sound Formulas to Awaken the Modern Mind:  www.jilljardine.com Neptune in Aries from 2026-2039 marks a powerful new collective cycle where spiritual vision seeks bold, immediate expression. Neptune governs dreams, intuition, imagination, and collective consciousness—along with illusion and confusion—while Aries represents action, courage, individuality, and initiation. Together, they fuse inspired ideals with raw impulse, urging people to act on their visions rather than merely believe in them. Collectively, this transit signals new beginnings in spiritual, creative, and humanistic directions. There is a shift away from passive, Piscean spirituality toward action-oriented spiritual sovereignty, where individuals follow inner knowing rather than external authorities. This may manifest through activism, innovation, creative leadership, and new social or spiritual movements grounded in personal purpose. Charismatic leaders and trailblazers are likely to arise, replacing outdated power structures. Historically, the last Neptune-in-Aries cycle (1862–1875) coincided with ideological upheaval, war, rapid invention, and major spiritual movements—from evangelical revivals to esoteric traditions like Spiritualism and Theosophy. Similar patterns may re-emerge now: visionary breakthroughs, cultural renewal, and technological advances, alongside fanaticism, misinformation, cult dynamics, and conflicts driven by misplaced zeal. On the global stage, Neptune in Aries can dissolve old leadership models and ignite radical shifts in governance, religion, and innovation. While this may bring enlightened reform and pioneering solutions, it also carries risks of authoritarianism, spiritual delusion, media deception, and impulsive reactions to uncertainty. At its best, this transit encourages courageous compassion—turning dreams into action while serving the greater good. At its worst, it can blur truth and inflate egos. The key lesson is discernment: balancing inspiration with grounding, strength with empathy, and individuality with collective responsibility. When integrated wisely, Neptune in Aries ignites a divine creative spark capable of reshaping culture, spirituality, and personal purpose for an entire generation. Here's a summary for the impact on each Zodiac sign but listen to the episode for more details: Aries: A profound identity reset begins. Old roles, relationships, and self-images dissolve so you can redefine who you truly are. Intuition and creativity increase, but clarity and health must be prioritized to avoid drifting or burnout. This is a powerful period for spiritual leadership and personal reinvention—stay grounded. Taurus: A deeply introspective cycle focused on release, healing, and spiritual integration. Past patterns surface for closure. Ideal for therapy, meditation, and creative work, though escapism should be avoided. Surrender leads to renewal. Gemini: Your social circles and future goals evolve. You may find your true tribe, become involved in activism, or align with visionary groups. Inspiration is high, but discernment is essential to avoid idealizing people or movements. Cancer: Career paths may dissolve or shift dramatically, pushing you toward work aligned with your soul purpose. Disillusionment can lead to meaningful reinvention. Avoid over-giving at work and maintain emotional boundaries. Leo: Your worldview expands through travel, education, or spiritual study. New philosophies and adventures beckon. Stay discerning—some opportunities or teachings may not be what they seem. Virgo: Deep psychological and financial transformation unfolds. Old fears, attachments, and money patterns dissolve. This is a powerful rebirth cycle—clarity, boundaries, and conscious financial choices are key. Libra: Relationships are tested and redefined. You may experience spiritual connections or idealize partners. Balance, mutual exchange, and healthy boundaries are essential to avoid co-dependence or disappointment. Scorpio: Daily routines, work life, and health need conscious restructuring. Intuitive approaches to wellness and service are beneficial, but consistency and practical systems are crucial to avoid burnout or chaos. Sagittariius: A fertile period for artistic expression, romance, and passion projects. Imagination and inspiration flourish. Avoid unrealistic expectations in love or creative ventures. Capricorn: Your sense of home, family, and emotional security evolves. Changes in living situations or family responsibilities may arise. Healing ancestral patterns and creating new foundations bring long-term stability. Aquarius: Your voice becomes more intuitive, creative, and influential. Writing, teaching, and visionary communication are favored. Stay mindful of misinformation or unclear thinking. Pisces: Your relationship with money, self-worth, and material security shifts. New income visions may emerge, but practicality is essential. Spiritual values reshape how you define succe Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. How Haunted? Podcast | Horrible Histories, Real Life Ghost Stories, and Paranormal Investigations from Some of the Most Haunt

Something a little bit different, this isn't an episode of How Haunted? but rather an episode of a podcast I'm a huge fan of, and we agreed to do a feed swap. So I bring you episode 606 of History Goes Bump. I hope you enjoy it. Episode 606 - There are two main Spiritualist Camps in America dating back to the Victorian Era: Lilydale in New York and Cassadaga in Florida. We've visited Cassadaga several times, which is known as the Psychic Capital of the World. Almost as often as St. Augustine, and like St. Augustine, Cassadaga oozes spiritual energy. While some people might think that Spiritualism was just a craze during the Victorian Era, it is a real religion that still exists today and is recognized by the military as a standard religion. There are around 13 million practicing Spiritualists in the world today. Many of them still live in Cassadaga and there seems to be many spirits in this small town, not only of the Spiritualists who have already transitioned, but perhaps of the many spirits called to the town. Join us for the history and hauntings of the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp. Why does spiritism hold such a powerful grip on people — especially during times of grief, fear, and uncertainty? In this episode, Blake and Grayson continue their American Cults series by examining the appeal of Spiritism, why Scripture consistently forbids it, and how it distorts good, God-given desires for eternity, comfort, and knowledge. Through biblical teaching and pastoral reflection, they explore: Why humanity longs for life beyond death The dangers of seeking revelation without repentance Saul and the Witch of Endor (1 Samuel 28) How spiritism traps the grieving rather than healing them Why Christ alone defeats death and removes its fear Spiritism offers promises it can never keep. The Gospel offers resurrection, peace, and hope that does not fade.   Connect Website & Blog: www.chorusinthechaos.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chorusinthec... Journalist and researcher Brian Baker, founder of The Superstitious Times, joins Haunted Talks to discuss his new book, Eerie Whispers: Exploring Canada's Reluctant Relationship with Its Ghostly Lore. Why is Canada, a country overflowing with ghost stories, so hesitant to talk about them? Brian shares a chilling childhood encounter he has never quite shaken, unpacks his idea of Canada as "the introvert on the global stage," and takes us across the country to explore why some regions embrace the paranormal while others keep it at arm's length. We also dive into Toronto's legendary Philip Experiment, where a group of researchers appeared to summon a ghost they invented, raising unsettling questions about belief, storytelling, and what might be shaping a haunting. Along the way, we explore fear, pop culture, and Indigenous perspectives that challenge the very word "paranormal." Ghosts spoke. Women listened. Everything changed. It began with whispers in a dimly lit room. In the 1840s, the Fox Sisters―and the legions of mediums they inspired―ignited the Spiritualist movement that swept through Victorian parlors and presidential campaigns alike. Contacting the dead wasn't merely a parlor trick: It was a political statement, a declaration of self that still echoes. Séances attracted suffragists and scientists, skeptics and charlatans, giving women a voice in a society that often refused to hear them. But as Spiritualism surged, it also blurred the lines between faith, fraud, feminism, and financial opportunity, drawing figures as varied as Harry Houdini, Victoria Woodhull, and even modern self-help gurus into its ever-expanding orbit. From wartime séances to the rise of televangelists, from Victorian ghosts to goop-approved wellness rituals, When We Spoke to the Dead unearths the forgotten roots of today's obsession with manifestation, mysticism, and the power of belief. Exploring America's deep-seated hunger for the unseen―whether through politics, personal empowerment, or grief―this book traces how the supernatural, once condemned as heresy, became the ultimate commodity.Step inside the séance room. Beginning with a biblical narrative—the chilling account of Saul and the Witch of Endor—the episode moves through the dramatic story of the Fox Sisters, the national craze for seances, and the cultural wounds left open by the Civil War. You'll discover how spiritualism promised comfort in a time of uncertainty, why it grew so quickly, and even how magician Harry Houdini became its most vocal opponent. Blending historical storytelling, cultural analysis, and theological clarity, this episode shines a light on a movement that still shapes modern (evil) ideas about mediums, ghosts, and “communicating with the dead.”   Connect Website & Blog: www.chorusinthechaos.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chorusinthec... To hear the entire interview, please consider joining my Patreon and becoming a member; alternately, this episode can be purchased for a one-time fee. More information at www.patreon.com/RejectedReligion.My guest this month is Dr. Bastiaan van Rijn.Bastiaan is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. During his PhD, he has investigated how practitioners of different movements in the nineteenth century tried to scientifically prove life after death exists. The outcome of this project is the book Afterlife Research (forthcoming), as well as several open-access articles. Beside this, he is also interested in playful approaches to religion and divination in the contemporary West. His newest project centers on spiritual tourism. This interview takes us into the fascinating world of Mesmerism—also known as animal magnetism—and its enduring influence on the boundaries between science, mysticism, and spiritual inquiry. Bastiaan gives a brief bio of Franz Anton Mesmer, who in the late 18th century proposed that an invisible fluid flowed through all living beings, capable of healing and revealing hidden truths. Though controversial and dismissed by many, Mesmer's ideas sparked a lineage of thought that continues to shape contemporary conversations about consciousness, healing, and the legitimacy of scientific inquiry. We discuss how Mesmerism blended science and mysticism, influenced public perception, and laid the groundwork for practices ranging from hypnotism and New Thought to modern-day energetic healing. Bastiaan's own research picks up this thread, tracing how the experimental impulse to make the invisible visible evolved into afterlife studies, somnambulism, and psychical research. From there, we dive into Bastiaan's dissertation, which examines the emergence of a “scientific culture” in afterlife research—one grappling with empirical inaccessibility, unreliable intermediaries, and skeptical resistance. Through case studies of three spiritual animal magnetizers, Bastiaan uncovers how different strategies were used to stabilize claims and navigate the tension between belief and method.Ultimately, this conversation invites us to rethink what counts as scientific, Bastiaan invites us to consider not just what these researchers claimed to find, but how they tried to find it, as well as how experimental practices in esoteric and spiritual domains contribute to broader dialogues about religion, and the unseen dimensions of human experience. What emerges is a rich, transhistorical culture of inquiry—one that challenges our assumptions about science, religion, and the boundaries of legitimate knowledge.PROGRAM NOTESFind Bastiaan:Bastiaan Benjamin Van Rijn - University of FribourgBastiaan van Rijn | LinkedInInstagramResearchGate – all research[PhD Diss.] The Experimental Culture of Afterlife Research: Attempts by Spiritual Animal Magnetizers to Prove Life after Death | Request PDF(PDF) Chapter 9 Building a Typology for Intentional Transformative Experiences: Louis- Alphonse Cahagnet's Experiments with Magnetic Somnambulism and HashishBastiaan van Rijn (0000-0003-4247-9198) - ORCIDOther Resources:1784: The Marquis de Puységur and the psychological turn in the west - PubMedThe seeress of Prevorst; being revelations concerning the inner-life of man, and the inter-diffusion of a world of spirits in the one we inhabit : Kerner, Justinus Andreas Christian, 1786-1862 : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet ArchiveInvestigations of psychic/spiritual phenomena in the nineteenth century: somnambulism and spiritualism, 1811-1860A Republic of Mind and Spirit – Wonderful history of Metaphysics in the USA

Born in London in 1911, Flint grew up in modest circumstances but claimed to hear voices of the departed from childhood. Those early experiences set him on a lifelong path toward Spiritualism and the exploration of life after death. Unlike trance mediums who spoke on behalf of spirits, Flint's séances were said to produce independent voices, clearly audible to everyone in the room, appearing to come from midair rather than from the medium himself.Sitters described conversations that were intimate, humorous, and deeply emotional. The voices called people by name, shared private memories, and even argued or joked. Among them were recurring personalities such as “Mickey,” a lively Cockney boy spirit, and “Dr. Charles Marshall,” a calm, guiding presence who oversaw communication from the other side.During the Second World War, when grief touched nearly every British home, Flint's séances offered solace. Widows and parents reported hearing the familiar tones of loved ones lost in battle. Others claimed to encounter famous figures, Oscar Wilde, Queen Victoria, Mahatma Gandhi, each speaking in distinct character and style. To many, these sessions felt less like performances than reunions across the boundary of death.Flint was repeatedly tested. Investigators sealed his mouth, filled it with colored water, even bound him to a chair, yet the voices continued. Hundreds of hours of these sessions were recorded and can still be heard today through the Leslie Flint Educational Trust. Whether regarded as genuine spirit communication or an extraordinary unexplained acoustic phenomenon, they remain some of the clearest evidence of voices without visible source ever documented. In this episode, I take you through Flint's life, the atmosphere of his séances, and the enduring mystery of those voices in the dark. Was Leslie Flint truly speaking for the dead, or revealing new dimensions of consciousness still beyond our science? https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/ourparanormalafterlifeMy book 'Verified Near Death Experiences' https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXKRGDFP Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Happy Halloween! Today on Sense of Soul we have Dr Kate Cherrell, she is a writer and broadcaster specialising in paranormal history, 19th-century Spiritualism and British folklore. She is the author of the gothic novel Begotten (2025) and a forthcoming work of non-fiction, Buried England (2026). She writes commercially on supernatural history and has worked with museum and cemetery trusts nationwide. As a paranormal historian, she has co-hosted Haunted Homecoming with Jack Osbourne and Jonathan Ross, Unexplained: Caught on Camera, The Yorkshire Exorcist II and has provided historical expertise on Paranormal: Britain's Last Witch, Weird Britain and Spectre or Spectacle. She received the GPN Top Investigator award in May 2025 for her work in paranormal investigation. She has blogged under the name Burials and Beyond since 2017 and – when not exploring cemeteries or haunted locations – she can usually be found in some dark, dusty corner with a big glass of wine and a good book. She is the author of ‘Begotten' a neo-Victorian novel set in the fictional county of Duncain, spiritualism impacts an Anglo-Irish family. Following the death of her father, Alice Crofton returns to her family's crumbling house, believing she will settle the estate and leave. But nothing in Duncain ever truly leaves. In her absence, spiritualism has gripped the rural county and charismatic mediums have encroached into the household, setting their sights on Alice's family - and her inheritance. Alice tries to hold on to her family and her sanity as hysteria and hauntings take over all she once knew. Written in gothic and ghost story traditions, Begotten's dark - and sometimes humorous - narrative raises questions about the trustworthiness of one's senses and the very nature of ghosts. https://katecherrell.com https://burialsandbeyond.com https://www.facebook.com/burialsandbeyond/ www.instagram.com/burialsandbeyond www.twitter.com/burialsbeyond Book Link: https://www.collectiveinkbooks.com/roundfire-books/our-books/begotten-gothic-novel Visit: www.senseofsoulpodcast.com

From Sally's tearful plea for the aunts to bring Michael back, to the infamous “trash witch” attempt that saw Sally and Gillian raise Jimmy from the dead, we're unpacking how Practical Magic intertwines resurrection with grief, consequence, and feminine power. We'll also trace these cinematic moments back through history — to the rise of Spiritualism in the 19th century, when séances, spirit boards, and table-tipping became tools for mourning and mysticism alike. What drew people to the idea of crossing that veil? Author Ilise S. Carter joins us to discuss her new book, When We Spoke to the Dead: How Ghosts Gave American Women Their Voice, a captivating exploration of how the Spiritualism movement reshaped faith, culture, and even feminism. It all began in 1848, when two sisters from upstate New York—the famous Fox Sisters—claimed they could speak to the dead through mysterious knocks on the walls of their farmhouse. Their story sparked a global fascination that transformed parlors into séance rooms and gave rise to one of the most influential movements of the 19th century. Spiritualism wasn't just about ghosts—it was about change. Mediums, often women, claimed to channel the voices of the departed through raps, trances, and automatic writing, gaining social power in a world that rarely let them speak.  Step into the séance room—where belief met rebellion, and the voices of the dead helped shape the living. Today on The Grave Talks, When We Spoke to the Dead, a conversation with author Ilise S. Carter. Love real ghost stories? Imagine if you had a few thousand dollars to spend however you wanted? What would you do? A few of my friends might put a down payment on a house. Others would take a long-dreamed about vacation. Or buy an expensive piece of art. Most would give some money to their favorite charity. Yes, Americans certainly are generous with their money. In 2023, individuals gave $374 billion dollars, representing 67% of total giving, according to Giving USA. Americans gave to organizations and grantmaking foundations working in human services, health, education, environment, and the arts, financially supporting an array of causes and programs essential to the social fabric of our communities. But by far, Americans gave to religious institutions and organizations: the churches, synagogues, and mosques that offer spiritual guidance and solace – a community of the faithful. Chris Spencer knows something about the importance of supporting your parish church. As CEO and President of the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana, Chris manages nearly $250 million on behalf of churches and philanthropists in the state, using his background in banking to help Methodist churches manage their investments and help donors with planned and legacy giving. The spiritual can be found in nature, too, and in different art movements, including Surrealism, Symbolism, and Spiritualism, a 19th-century movement that directly influenced modern art. Cana Brumfield began her exploration of art at a young age. Inspired by her mother, an art therapist and teacher, Cana grew up taking art classes and going to art camps. In 2024, Cana began selling her art to the public under the brand name Luna Leaf Studio. Incorporating upcycled materials, Cana’s art evokes a childlike love and wonder for nature and the environment by incorporating whimsical aspects of design. Her work can be found at local art markets, including Brickyard South and The Magical Spring market at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge. Art and religion have long shared an inseparable bond. From ancient cave paintings and illuminated medieval manuscripts to grand cathedrals and temple sculptures, art has historically functioned as a visual language of faith. And, all along, but perhaps today more than ever, art and religion both rely to some extent on a foundation of finance. Which is what brings Chris and Cana together over lunch on a show about business in Baton Rouge! Out to Lunch is recorded live over lunch at Mansurs on the Boulevard. Larry Ostola speaks with Anton Wagner about his book, The Spiritualist Prime Minister: Volume 1: Mackenzie King and the New Revelation, along with the author of the foreword, Walter Meyer zu Erpen. The Spiritualist Prime Minister by Anton Wagner is a groundbreaking two-volume biography that reveals the deep influence of Spiritualism and the occult on William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada's longest-serving Prime Minister. Based on ten years of meticulous research, Wagner documents over 130 of King's interactions with mediums, psychics, and other spiritual practitioners. King's primary motivation was to communicate with his deceased mother and close associates, often consulting spiritualists during pivotal moments in his political career, including the Great Depression and World War II. The biography situates King's beliefs within the broader international context of early 20th-century Spiritualism, referencing figures like Arthur Conan Doyle. Wagner's work offers a detailed psychological portrait of King, exploring both his mystical pursuits and controversial views, including instances of racism and antisemitism. Richly illustrated and thoroughly researched, this biography provides new insights into the private life and decision-making of one of Canada's most influential leaders. Anton Wagner is a founding executive member of the Canadian Association for Theatre Research, editor of ten books on Canadian theatre, and an accomplished researcher, writer, and documentary filmmaker. Walter Meyer zu Erpen is president and archivist of the Survival Research Institute of Canada. If you like our work, please consider supporting it: bit.ly/support_WTY. In the summer of 1878, eighteen-year-old Esther Cox was assaulted at gunpoint by a male acquaintance, leaving the Nova Scotia teenager traumatized and afraid. In the days that followed, Esther and those with whom she shared a house in rural Amherst began to notice unusual things occurring around the house including knocking on the walls and floors, objects flying around the house, and Esther suffering frequent seizures without any apparent cause. In the months and years that followed, the “Great Amherst Mystery,” as it came to be known, was investigated by various clergy, scientists, and paranormal investigators, all intent on proving or disproving the poltergeist activity. While none of the investigators were ever able to identify the origins of the haunting in the Cox house, the attention made Esther a prominent national figure in spiritualist circles until several bad experiences led her to flee Canada for good several years later.Thank you to the incredible Dave White for research and writing assistance!ReferencesAllen, Alexander. 1970. There are two main Spiritualist Camps in America dating back to the Victorian Era: Lilydale in New York and Cassadaga in Florida. The Moment in Oddity features the Lung Tree. Read the deep-dive article about Patience Worth on the Weird Darkness website: https://weirddarkness.com/patience-worth-ghost-writer/In 1913, a St. Louis housewife with no literary education began receiving messages through a Ouija board from someone calling herself Patience Worth, who claimed to have died centuries earlier. Over the next 25 years, Pearl Curran would produce 400,000 words of historically accurate novels, plays, and poetry that literary experts said she couldn't possibly have written herself.Join the DARKNESS SYNDICATE for the ad-free version: https://weirddarkness.com/syndicateTake the WEIRD DARKNESS LISTENER SURVEY and help mold the future of the podcast: https://weirddarkness.com/surveyIN THIS EPISODE: How did Pearl Curran, an ordinary St. Louis housewife, become the center of one of the greatest paranormal mysteries of all time? (Patience Worth And The Ouija Board) *** A home in India is grappling with an angry ghost that apparently has chosen to throw potatoes at it. (Terrifying Tater Tosser) *** It began with a blast the power of a nuclear bomb, lights filled the skies, a fireball the size of the moon streaked across the sky. But this wasn't a UFO or anything paranormal or supernatural. This was all man-made – and it was only the beginning of something much more sinister that was planned. (The Japanese Death Cult's Plan To Split The World In Two) *** John Hatfield could not stay out of trouble. Probably due to the fact that he kept making up false identifies for himself, and getting into trouble with those identities. His antics were so well known that later, a woman who created a falsehood about herself was accused of being an imposter just like him. We'll look at both of their strange stories! (The Keswick Imposter, and the Fasting-Woman of Tutbury) *** Long before Sybil and the Three Faces of Eve, there was Doris Fischer and her case is still considered a classic.
