Let's Chat! The lights hum a half-beat late, the city moves at the wrong speed, and the mirror smiles before you do. Episode 8 of the Patience of Predator series pulls you into a slow, surgical horror where perfection doesn't chase—it waits. Aston walks into an apartment that remembers his scent but not his claim, a skyline that looks right but stalls like a photograph, and a stereo that sings memories out of time. Each small glitch—delayed reflections, warped songs, clocks that reverse—tightens into a single threat: the version he built to survive has learned to breathe first. We follow Aston from a dusted BMW to a glass-walled firm that rewards polish and punishes tremor. Reflections start speaking before mouths move. Printers whisper, We already replaced you. In the Hall of Glass, every pane rehearses a different him—older, younger, faster—until the wave closes in with palms pressed from the wrong side. The line that lands like a verdict: It's not the glass that traps you. It's the one that looks back. When his perfected self steps through the window, there's no shatter—just a colder hand, a smoother voice, and an effortless, I'll handle it from here.We talk openly about the cost of “being better”: how perfectionism can become a predator, how high-performance habits drift into identity erasure, and why systems prefer the seamless version of you. The soundtrack—REM, Depeche Mode, Seal, Massive Attack, U2—scores the unraveling, each song detuned like a memory failing the truth test. We leave Claire's fate unresolved by design, a mirror for how our stories tolerate ambiguity when control is the idol. And we end with two sharp questions you can't ignore: What part of your strength is truth, and what part is the calm you practiced to hide the break? If your world met the version you've been building, would it grieve—or say thank you?Listen, reflect, and tell us what you see in your mirror. If this series hit a nerve, subscribe, share with a friend who's chasing “better,” and leave a review with your answer to the final question."True mastery is found in the details. The way you handle the little things defines the way you handle everything."
Episode 192: PRP/Synthpop Symphony Crossover: Red Flag Part 2 (with DJ Matt Williams) Brian and Sarah are once again joined by DJ Matt Williams, creator and host of the synth-tastic radio show Synthpop Symphony. Matt's show is aired on dozens of terrestrial radio stations around the world and can also be found on podcast platforms. In the previous episode, Brian, Sarah and Matt started a discussion about the San Diego-based duo Red Flag, whose well-crafted electronic tracks were heard in countless clubs at the end of the 1980s. Their debut album, Naïve Art, was released in 1989, and the three hosts shared both information on and memories of the album, touching on numerous other topics along the way. This episode dives into four tracks from Naïve Art, three of which were singles, and one which Brian and Sarah learned from Matt was at least considered as a single. The chart information Sarah has for the singles is primarily for the dance charts, although Brian does take great joy being able to use one of his 1980s pop chart books to confirm some information. Matt tells stories of receiving and playing the remixes in dance clubs. Sarah also has some single reviews, and in what may be a first for the show, a video review! The three hosts discuss each song in depth, but the conversation encompasses many other topics as well. The PRP hosts chat with Matt about the time and effort involved in planning a radio show playlist. Information Society member and famed producer Paul Robb is mentioned, along with the group T42. And once again, Depeche Mode makes the list of discussion topics; this time the focus is on Depeche Mode's influence on music. Episode 191: PRP/Synthpop Symphony Crossover: Red Flag Part 1 (with DJ Matt Williams) Brian and Sarah are thrilled to present the first in what will hopefully become a series of crossover episodes with DJ Matt Williams. Matt is the brains and the voice behind the amazing radio show Synthpop Symphony, which airs on radio stations in 60 countries and is also available for download on virtually all podcast platforms. As Matt states, “Synthpop Symphony is where the past, present, and future of synth-driven music collide.” And as PRP and Synthpop Symphony collide, the hosts shine a spotlight on a past synthpop group that often goes overlooked: Red Flag. In this first of two parts, Matt, Brian, and Sarah discuss Red Flag's history, the recording of their debut album, Naïve Art, and each person's history with the album. However, that's only the tip of the iceberg. The three also talk about cool radio stations, the demise of synthpop in the 90s, Depeche Mode's US Top 40 history, the history Razormaid, the comparison of bands like Red Flag, Cause & Effect, and Anything Box to Depeche Mode, the return of Tom Bailey, and the Red Flag Fan Club. It's a fun discussion that sets the stage for Part Two, where they'll dive deep into four selections from Naïve Art. And be sure to visit http://synthpopsymphony.com to learn more about DJ Matt Williams and his Synthpop Symphony radio show! September 7th, 1988, marked the culmination of 11 years of toil and sweat, when a true “band of brothers” from down under became the biggest musical act on the planet by scooping the pool at the 1988 MTV Music Awards. Nominated for nine awards, INXS walked away with the top five major honors, edging out longtime rivals U2, along with music legends like George Harrison, Bruce Springsteen, and XTC, with their iconic Need You Tonight/Mediate song and groundbreaking video. By this time, the MTV Awards had already surpassed the Grammys as the preeminent music event, and INXS rightfully stood as the darlings of the international music industry. Having spent the previous decade tirelessly touring the globe and steadily building momentum, they reached a crescendo that placed them at the very center of the late-'80s musical zeitgeist. With fellow icons including Rod Stewart, Aerosmith, Depeche Mode, Guns N' Roses, Elton John, Cher, Bryan Ferry, Peter Gabriel, Cyndi Lauper, and The Bangles appearing or presenting, the night became both a peer-to-peer celebration and global recognition of INXS' remarkable achievements. Much of this impact was amplified through the vision of legendary TV producer Dick Clark, who ensured the event was broadcast around the world. So it's with great pleasure that Bee and I unpack this unforgettable night, explore the rise and history of the MTV Awards, and reflect on the lasting impact this achievement continues to hold within the INXS legacy. Love and peace ✌️ https://www.inxsaccessallareas.com/

Send us a textThe curtain is pulled back on Scientology's enigmatic leader as Marc and Claire Headley share firsthand accounts of David Miscavige from their combined 30+ years inside the organization's headquarters. Their candid stories reveal a man obsessed with control, prone to humiliating outbursts, and increasingly paranoid about those around him. From bizarre personal encounters (like Miscavige mocking Marc about a Depeche Mode singer's suicide attempt) to shocking revelations about his daily routine, the Headleys paint a vivid picture of what happens when absolute power corrupts absolutely. Miscavige emerges as a micromanager who demands compliance reports for even the smallest tasks—like placing rubber mats under urinals—while simultaneously keeping his inner circle small and suspicious of everyone else. The conversation takes particularly illuminating turns when discussing Miscavige's unusual relationship with Tom Cruise. According to widespread reports, Scientology's leader accompanied Cruise and Katie Holmes on their honeymoon, raising eyebrows about the nature of celebrity treatment within the organization. The Headleys also detail how Miscavige lost $30 million of L. Ron Hubbard's money in bad investments, including fake oil wells and bogus treasure hunting schemes, yet managed to blame others for these financial disasters.Perhaps most disturbing are the accounts of physical and emotional abuse. Claire recounts being forced to drag Miscavige across a room while he held onto her clothing, telling her and other executives they were his "ball and chain." These personal stories provide crucial context for understanding how Scientology operates under his leadership and why former members continue speaking out despite the organization's reputation for aggressive retaliation against critics.Send us your Fake Navy Davey doll photos to enter our monthly contest and help support the Aftermath Foundation's work helping people escape Scientology!Support the showBFG Store - http://blownforgood-shop.fourthwall.com/Blown For Good on Audible - https://www.amazon.com/Blown-for-Good-Marc-Headley-audiobook/dp/B07GC6ZKGQ/ref=tmm_aud_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=Blown For Good Website: http://blownforgood.com/PODCAST INFO:Podcast website: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2131160 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/blown-for-good-behind-the-iron-curtain-of-scientology/id1671284503 RSS: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/2131160.rss YOUTUBE PLAYLISTS: Spy Files Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWtJfniWLwq4cA-e...
Send us a textHave you ever noticed how certain songs can instantly transport you to specific moments in your life, triggering powerful emotions and memories? This phenomenon lies at the heart of music's profound impact on our mental health—a topic David and Matt explore by sharing their personal favorite songs that make them feel good.Selecting just a handful of favorites proves nearly impossible as both hosts struggle to narrow down their extensive musical preferences. David's selections include Depeche Mode's "Halo," Queen's "The Show Must Go On," and The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby," each choice accompanied by personal connections and meaningful backstories. Matt counters with his love for The Chemical Brothers, Gene Vincent's "Be-Bop-A-Lula," and an hour-and-a-half Fatboy Slim concert that sustained him through COVID lockdowns. The episode features a heartwarming "Winner of the Week" story about Kent Broussard, who at age 66 fulfilled his childhood dream of joining LSU's marching band. After watching them perform as a nine-year-old in 1968, Kent carried this aspiration for decades. Upon approaching retirement, he enrolled in college, relearned the tuba, began intensive physical training, and successfully auditioned—becoming the band's oldest member by 41 years. His story perfectly encapsulates the theme that music can inspire and fulfill us at any stage of life.Throughout their conversation, David and Matt touch on music's ability to forge connections between people, create shared experiences, and provide comfort during difficult times. Whether it's a song that becomes special between partners or a playlist that keeps you going through global uncertainty, music's therapeutic benefits extend far beyond mere entertainment. What songs make you feel better when you hear them? Adrian Sherwood is known for his work as a producer, and while that term brings to mind those who simply put their often-subtle imprint on the recordings in which they’re involved, Sherwood’s approach is distinctive and heavily informed by the Dub music which he worked to distribute and to play as a DJ in London in the 1970’s. He has brought that sensibility primarily, but not exclusively, to electronic and electronic dance music, as well as many remixes of work by bands ranging from Depeche Mode, Sinead O’Connor, Primal Scream, Coldcut, and Skinny Puppy. His most recent solo record is 2025’s The Collapse of Everything. Sherwood will perform at the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN in March of 2026. In this episode, he talks about how songs by Lee Perry, Mark Stewart, and Elvis Presley guided his musical development.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
If you're looking for someone who blends the heart of a community advocate, the mind of a marketing strategist, and the soul of an 80s music lover—you've found her. Brandy Alvarado-Miranda isn't just a name in the AV world—she's a force of nature. When she's not courtside cheering on her kid's basketball game (or the Lakers & Sparks), you'll find her chasing waves at the beach, getting her hands dirty in the garden, or spoiling her adorable pug and corgi duo. A true SoCal spirit, she lives for tacos, margaritas, and the synth beats of Depeche Mode—preferably all at once. Brandy dove into the AV industry in 2014 and never looked back. After gaining experience across engineering, manufacturing, and themed integration, she made the bold leap during the pandemic—launching BAM! Marketing & PR Agency in 2021. Since then, she's helped dozens of Pro AV and Digital Signage brands find their voice and amplify it across the industry with strategic branding, impactful content, and fearless creativity. She's dubbed her clients her #BAMily, and has created an ecosystem that not only connects them to work on projects together, but to team up to network. But Brandy doesn't stop at business. She's a passionate advocate for women in tech, founding WAVIT in 2023—a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting women in AV/IT. From her leadership with the AVIXA Women's Council to her mentorship and advisory roles, Brandy is determined to leave the AV industry better, stronger, and more inclusive than she found it. With titles like Woman of the Year in AV, Pro AV Watch Lister, AV Living Legend, and DSE Advisory Board Member, her accolades are impressive—but her mission is simple: to empower others, create meaningful change, and rock out to some 80s jams while doing it. Send us a textWhat happens when a buried pop gem finally gets its moment to shine? Stella Soleil joins us to share the fascinating 14-year journey of her song "Hello" – from its unexpected birth in a hard rock band to its powerful 2025 revival.Stella takes us behind the curtain of her remarkable career, revealing how she championed Slipknot before they became global metal icons. "I always insisted we play on the same show," she explains, describing her early conviction that the masked musicians would "take over the planet" when others couldn't see past their unconventional image. This thread of recognizing potential runs throughout her story, especially with "Hello" – a song she created with members of Slipknot in their side project Dirty Little Rabbits. The conversation delves into the creative rebirth of "Hello" with legendary producer John Fryer (Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode), where Stella spent an incredible 52 hours recording vocals to create the song's distinctive harmonies. "It went from a single line vocal to 72 tracks," she reveals, describing the transformation from quirky original to anthemic 2025 version. We explore the making of the music video with director Jeffrey Panzer, filming in natural light with genuine human connections that perfectly capture the song's message that "all good people find one another." Stella's authentic personality shines throughout – from her fear of flying to her signature friendship pins adorning her Adidas Superstars. Listen now for a master class in musical perseverance, the power of timing, and how sometimes the most meaningful songs take the longest journey to find their audience. This month head back to Colin & Ian's teenage years and Tracey's not quite as teenage years to discuss the emergence of post rock, jangly indie rock, noisy glitchy electronica, stompy nu-metal & Vic Reeves with a cold. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year.Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - A, Aphex Twin, The Beta Band, Bjork, David Bowie, Deftones, Depeche Mode, Tanya Donelly, Mark Eitzel, Faith No More, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Kenickie, Low, Lullaby For The Working Class, Machine Head, Billy Mackenzie, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Mogwai, Nine Inch Nails, Paradise Lost, Pavement, The Prodigy, Radiohead, Rammstein, Samiam, Snot, Strapping Young Lad, Teenage Fanclub, Tindersticks, & Yo La Tengo.Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1xtkvukpolmGURUNJTQc5n?si=efff4c4045d84620Find our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes (which need updating but I plan on doing them over the next few months or so), you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdgIan's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqAand Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9NwThe playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Part of the We Dig Podcasts network along with Free With This Months Issue & Pick A Disc.Bluesky - https://bsky.app/profile/wedigmusic.bsky.socialInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wedigpusicpcast/Find our other episodes & podcasts at www.wedigpodcasts.com

Expansive dub vibrations from the On-U Sound maestro. Adrian Sherwood has spent nearly five decades reshaping how dub is heard and felt. From absorbing reggae and funk as a teenager at the Newlands Club in High Wycombe to cofounding On-U Sound in 1979, he's been a restless force in British sound system culture. His debut production, Dub From Creation, signalled his instinct to twist the Jamaican form into bold, experimental directions. That spirit defined On-U Sound, where reggae collided with post-punk, industrial and synth pop to forge a catalogue still unlike anything else. Sherwood became a crucial bridge, producing for legends like Prince Far I, Bim Sherman and Lee “Scratch” Perry, while also working with Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and Sinéad O'Connor. His RA Mix (yes, you read that right) arrives at a moment of renewal—RA.1001 is the first in a new era for the series. (After 1,000 editions of the RA Podcast, we're updating the name to better reflect what it's become.) Recorded at his Ramsgate studio, the 76-minute mix folds in cuts from The Collapse Of Everything alongside material from across the On-U Sound universe, plus collaborations with Panda Bear, Sonic Boom, Coldcut and Spoon. It's Sherwood doing what he's always done: stretching dub into endless new shapes. Find the interview and tracklist at ra.co/podcast/1019
"The Song Forlorn" Perhaps best known as the Peter portion of the Swedish outfit Peter Bjorn and John, Peter Morén and his band have put out close to ten albums of catchy indie rock that's yielded worldwide hits like "Young Folks," tours around the globe, international television ads and TV and movie placements in everything from Gossip Girl to Bandslam. Raised in the Swedish countryside, Morén grew up listening to Ride, Depeche Mode, The Housemartins and the Stone Roses and his sonorous and melodic body of work reflects his love of well-crafted pop songs. With four fabulous solo albums under his belt, a side project with members of The Shout Out Louds and The Concretes and handling producer duties for Robert Forster's wonderful new album Strawberries, Morén is a busy guy. And I'm leaving things out, I'm sure. But what I'm not leaving out is his second album under the moniker SunYears. The follow up to the dazzling Come Fetch My Soul, The Song Forlorn is a stirring and rousing song-cycle filled with wistful pop, affecting ballads, fuzzed out psych jams and rootsy instrumentals. Featuring guests like Lisa Hannigan, Sam Genders, Nicole Atkins, and Madison Cunningham, The Song Forlorn is an album that's filled with tremendous stylistic range. There's touches of Aztec Camera and Prefab Sprout, Beatle-esque jangle and spare indie folk. It's percussive, melodic and magical work. https://www.roughtrade.com/en-us/product/sunyears/the-song-forlorn IG: @sunyearssongs www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers IG + Bluesky: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

Ian welcomes back author Ben Beard to discuss his latest, best, and most personal book, Four Horses, Seven Seals!Continuing his tradition of mixing autobiography with the pop culture that helped shape his life, Ben's latest work examines three bizarre totems from the year 1990: DC Comics' The Sandman, Depeche Mode's "Violator" album, and Adrian Lyne's film, Jacob's Ladder (which the guys review in moderate depth). While investigating the odd connections between these three works, Ben delves further into his own troubled journey to adulthood and falling out with religion. He also discovers cosmic coincidences involving the rise and fall of Elvis Presley's stepbrother, the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, and the twisted celestial visions of William Blake--all with the author's trademark blend of humor, horror, and relatability. In this wide-ranging interview, Ian and Ben talk about book's three main pillars; getting creative with chapter notes; the controversy surrounding Sandman author Neil Gaiman; and how 1990 presaged the next millennium's splintering of our collective consciousness!Four Horses, Seven Seals is now available on Amazon. Episode 188: Depeche Mode – Speak & Spell (1981) Part 5 (Featuring Will Crewdson) With this fifth installment, Brian and Sarah wrap up their discussion of Depeche Mode's debut album. Our hosts have been covering the US version of Speak & Spell, so there's only one more song on that release to be discussed. Fortunately, they always do an Extra Credit section at the end of an album, so the song that's missing from the US version will get some attention then. The last track on Depeche Mode's 1981 release is a little ditty called “Just Can't Get Enough.” The US album features the extended, “Schizo Mix,” which our hosts do talk about in some detail, but there's more focus put on the single version. Our hosts take a deep dive into “Just Can't Get Enough,” talking about the usual things like chart positions, reviews, the record sleeves, and the recording of the song. And, for the first time on this album, there's even a video to discuss, much to the delight of Brian and Sarah. “Just Can't Get Enough” was a pretty important song for Depeche Mode when it was released, and its importance in the world of synthpop and 80s music in general has only increased with time. Our hosts explore the legacy of the song and its place in pop culture over the past four decades. There are dozens of cover versions of “Just Can't Get Enough,” and as Brian and Sarah start talking about them, they decide to take a chance and call up someone they know who has done a cover version of this song, to see if he's available to chat. After they finish talking about “Just Can't Get Enough,” Brian and Sarah move on to the “Extra Credit” portion of the episode, which in this case ends up being two parts. The first part is about the song missing from the US version of Speak & Spell, “I Sometimes Wish I Was Dead.” The second part is about Vince Clarke's departure from Depeche Mode. Additionally, our hosts have the pleasure of sharing some Speak & Spell memories recorded by listeners. It's then time, at long last, for the final evaluations and record-adapter ratings. Sarah goes first, and as usual, Brian is concerned about what kind of rating she'll give, as she's a harsher critic. Brian, on the other hand, is a self-professed Vince Clarke fanatic, so it's less of a concern that he'll give a low rating. But how high does he go? Listen to find out!
