    Honor Your Father and Mother

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 23, 2025 26:35

This week at The Table, we're looking at the fifth commandment: Honor your father and mother. As young adults, this can feel complicated—especially if our relationships with our parents are strained, painful, or even absent. But this commandment still matters, and it challenges us to think about how we honor authority, embrace wise counsel, love our neighbor starting at home, and reflect God's heart even in hard or imperfect family situations. Sabbath is a core spiritual practice - a weekly rhythm designed by God for rest, worship, delight, and renewal. Typically, a 24-hour period, Sabbath is a day set apart for communion with God and joy in His creation. As such, it serves to reorient our lives around God's presence and helps us to resist the culture of hurry, exhaustion, and performance. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The 10 Commandments aren't about God keeping things from us, but God wanting abundant life for us! The first commandment states, "You shall have no other Gods besides me." In this sermon we talk about what it means to have a god. Not only do we want to acknowledge the prohibitive boundary that God sets in each commandment, but also ask what is it inviting us into? In this case, the first commandment is inviting us to follow God above all else. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Truth & Lies

John is writing to warn the church about the spirit of the antichrist that is trying to lead people astray. His antidote is to believe the truth about God's love for his people, not the lies being told to them. Also, to be a person of truth means to love other believers well. To say you love God, but hate is to become the antichrist; a liar. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

What Jesus knew was a victory, Peter saw as a defeat. Jesus gave Peter great responsibility, but he thought he knew better than God and quickly became a stumbling block instead of a source of stability. When we, as humans, think we know better than God, we must be quick to confess. Sometimes victory doesn't look like what we'd imagine. Therefore, we aren't called to control how we think things should go, but to be faithful witnesses to the Messiah.
