The guys confess their most egregious romance fails from forgotten birthdays, last-minute Valentine's plans, and bookstore traditions gone stale to wildly different philosophies on “setting the bar” in marriage. Al uses the pain of romance to highlight another truth: there's pain that hurts, and pain that alters. That distinction becomes personal as Zach opens up about his mother's long battle with early-onset dementia and the complicated grief that followed her passing. The conversation turns to one of Christianity's hardest realities: if God is good and all-powerful, why does so much suffering continue in the world? In this episode: Ecclesiastes 3, verse 11; Psalm 90, verse 12; Hebrews 12, verse 2; Colossians 2, verses 20–23; Romans 1, verses 24–25; Romans 8, verses 20–23; 1 John 2, verses 15–16; 1 John 4, verses 8–10 Today's conversation is about Lesson 6 of C.S. Session: 2 Date of First Use: March 8, 2026 Title: God Is Love The Point: We can only truly know love by knowing God. Life Connection: For many people, love means whatever they want it to mean. They can express a deep and profound love for someone or something, but later that love disappears. Too often our examples of love disappoint or fail us. We see in God a whole different example of love. He is the very embodiment of love because He is love. The Bible shows us that we can know and experience that love through Jesus Christ. Session Passage: 1 John 4:7-19

The Bible calls believers to lay down selfishness, not their God-given dignity, worth, or safety. Sacrificial love is holy; destructive love is not.
Send a textTo think about love God's way might look a little different and more narrow. (Referencing Matthew 7:13-14) But, is God's way of "narrow" actually restricting or binding? Jo and Sydney address this paradox and how we can live God's love. Support the showhttps://www.hisvessel.org/podcast

Discovering the God Jesus Knows Week 5In this message, Russ explores one of the most familiar yet most misunderstood attributes of God: God is love. Scripture says it plainly—but many of us still live with a quiet belief that God's love is conditional, dependent on our performance or our ability to “get it right.” Drawing from 1 John 4, Romans 8, Philippians 3, and real-life stories, we look at how performance-based faith distorts our identity, fuels shame, and keeps us from experiencing the unconditional love God already offers. This message invites us to lay down legalism, embrace the freedom of grace, and rediscover a God whose love is unchanging—on our good days and our bad ones.
The love of God cannot be divorced from His other attributes, such as holiness, sovereignty, and justice. Today, R.C. This passage is one of only two in the New Testament declaring the great description of God's nature and being: "God is love." The riches of divine truth in this passage can be summarized as follows: v. 7 - The Command, the Source and the Power of Love v. 8 – The Unfortunate Truth and the Great Declaration v. 9 – The Manifestation of the Love of God v. 10 – Propitiation Is the Divine Remedy for Our Sin v. 11 – Jesus' Work of Love is our own Model of Love v. 12 – God's Love is Seen in the World When We Love One Another Christ's example of sacrificial love in going to the cross is our model as to the extent of sacrificial love to which we should go in loving our brothers and sisters in the church.
God is truth, God is love, and God is being itself. Today's Catechism readings begin to unpack the eternal nature of God and share with us God's “innermost secret." Fr. Mike teaches us that because God made us in his image and likeness, then we too are called to embody truth and love. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 212-221. Messy Family Podcast : Catholic conversations on marriage and family
"Love of neighbor is a path that leads to the encounter with God… closing our eyes to our neighbour also blinds us to God." - Pope Benedict XVI, God is Love Summary We begin with Love because marriage flows from our deepest identity and relationships, not just spousal dynamics. Created in the image of a loving, Triune God, we must first ask who God is and who we are in His eyes. Our relationship with God and with ourselves forms the foundation for loving others. Pope Benedict XVI's God Is Love reveals that eros and agape are inseparable dimensions of love: we are made to give and receive love. God's passionate, faithful love for His people—fulfilled fully in Jesus—becomes the model for marriage. In Christ, love of God and love of neighbor are one reality. Our first neighbor is our spouse, and loving them faithfully is the primary path to holiness and authentic love. Key Takeaways Love begins with God, not marriage Before focusing on spousal relationships, we must understand who God is and who we are in His eyes. Our identity as loved by God is the foundation for all love. You cannot love others without loving God and yourself rightly Knowing and receiving God's love allows us to love ourselves truthfully, which is necessary to love anyone else authentically. Eros and agape belong together Human desire (eros) is not bad; it is purified and fulfilled by God's unconditional love (agape). Love requires both giving and receiving. God's passionate love is revealed fully in Jesus Christ embodies God's self-giving love and draws us into communion—with God and with others—especially through the Eucharist. Marriage is the primary place love is lived Spouses are each other's first neighbors. Loving one's spouse faithfully is the clearest expression of love of God and the path to holiness. What does it truly mean to say, “God is love”? Let's explore the depth of God's agape love—a love that's unconditional, sacrificial, and self-giving. God's love isn't merely an emotion but an action, most clearly revealed through the gift of His Son. As recipients of such overwhelming grace, we're called to imitate God's love by laying aside selfishness, extending forgiveness, and demonstrating Christlike love to one another. When we love as He has loved us, we can change the world.

Today Fr. Mike reminds us that God created us out of love, for love. Fr. Mike also points out where the Catholic Church draws her doctrine on the difference between mortal and venial sin, as well as what St. Paul means when he teaches that there is only "one mediator" between God and man. Today's readings are 1 John 4-5, 1 Timothy 1-3, and Proverbs 30: 24-28. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Advent E4 — We're ending our short Advent series with a reflection on love. In the Hebrew Bible, the word “ahavah” involves faithfulness to God and living by his wisdom, but it also means showing practical care to others—especially the vulnerable. Jesus views this love for God and neighbor as the greatest command, and he expands it to be indiscriminate, radical kindness and generosity even toward our enemies. The New Testament authors were so blown away by this kind of love that they adopted an obscure Greek word for love, “agape,” and redefined it to be a self-giving, sacrificial love that Jesus demonstrates in his life, teaching, death, and resurrection. In this episode, Jon and Tim explore the main biblical words for love, showing how the story of Advent characterizes agape as God's own essence and our calling.
