Trucking is a vital part of the American economy, and it's estimated that 70% of all goods in the US are transported by truck at some point. Truck drivers play a crucial role in keeping shelves stocked and supply chains moving, but there's been a lot of talk lately about a "driver shortage." While it's true the industry is facing some challenges, the narrative of a driver shortage is oversimplified and doesn't take into account the complex factors at play. In reality, there are plenty of qualified drivers out there, but the industry is struggling to attract and retain them. Trucking is a demanding profession, and many drivers are turned off by the long hours, tough working conditions, and low pay. To combat the driver turnover rate, trucking companies will need to offer improved working conditions and better pay. Only then will they be able to attract the drivers they need to keep America moving. TOP 3 Talking Points: Travis, Rick and John give their opinion on the term "driver shortage" and if they believe it is currently a real issue Who is creating the problem and why they may be pushing a narrative in order to control market outcomes What industry leaders can do to improve the market and change "driver issues" once and for all To listen, find other episodes, access the show notes, and find out more go to http://www.openhaul.com/ (www.openhaul.com) Connect with today's hosts John Marienau Website: https://origintransport.com/ (https://origintransport.com) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnmarienau/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnmarienau/ ) Travis Arave: Website: https://origintransport.com/ (https://origintransport.com ) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travis-arave-03b8a422b/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/travis-arave-03b8a422b/) Richard Glaubitz: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/richard-glaubitz-04b820143/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/richard-glaubitz-04b820143/) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kw_kingdom/ (https://www.instagram.com/kw_kingdom/) We love our listeners, and we want to give back to those who have helped us grow. Today's episode will talk about how the trucking industry is on the verge of collapse. According to these doom-and-gloom predictions, self-driving trucks will make millions of drivers unemployed. A growing economy will soon make it impossible for the industry to keep up. Does this sound plausible? Were we really heading for a "trucking apocalypse"? We're not going to sugarcoat it: the trucking industry faces severe challenges. Self-driving technology is rapidly improving, and it's only a matter of time before it starts to impact trucking jobs. However, it's important to keep in mind that the trucking industry has been through tough times before, and it has always found a way to adapt and survive. We're not saying that the trucking industry isn't in for a rocky ride, but we believe it has the strength and resilience to weather this storm. So, don't panic just yet - the trucking apocalypse may not be as close as some people think. Top Three topics to look at: 1.) OpenHaul responds to a recent Freight Waves article, which caused a lot of confusion in the industry surrounding the next “trucking bloodbath.” 2.) Why articles like this can be misleading and unnecessary 3.) Reasons why the market could pull back and how to navigate it once Connect to our today's show hosts: John Marienau LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnmarienau/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnmarienau/) Travis Arave: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travis-arave-03b8a422b/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/travis-arave-03b8a422b/) Richard Glaubitz: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/richard-glaubitz-04b820143/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/richard-glaubitz-04b820143/) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kw_kingdom/ (https://www.instagram.com/kw_kingdom/) We love our listeners, and we want to give back to those who have helped us grow.
