Sierra snowmelt is threatening significant floods in a Central Valley county that houses a prison and massive agricultural industry, which are all at risk from the flood threat. The current levee system in Corcoran is not up to par, and unease is setting in as fears of flooding could bring intense impacts to communities. Joining us to discuss is Kurtis Alexander, a reporter for The San Francisco Chronicle, where he frequently writes about water, impacts of drought, threats to public lands and wildlife, and the nation's widening rural-urban divide. Also joining us is Dorsey Nunn, is the executive director of Legal Services for Prisoners with Children and founder of that organization's policy advocacy arm All Of Us Or None. —- Subscribe to this podcast: https://plinkhq.com/i/1637968343?to=page Get in touch: lawanddisorder@kpfa.org Follow us on socials @LawAndDis: https://twitter.com/LawAndDis; https://www.instagram.com/lawanddis/ The post Sierras Snowmelt Stokes Fears of Floods in Central Valley and Corcoran Prison w/ Kurtis Alexander & Dorsey Nunn appeared first on KPFA.

We are going to learn what it like to serve 31 years in prison and then be subject to our stifling parole system As a desperate 17yo juvenile our guest William committed a robbery and he was tried as an adult that led to a 31yr long incarceration in the state of California. Today if he committed the same crime he would likely not have been sentenced as an adult or served no more than seven years. Now out of prison in 2019 and having gone through parole, William is passionate about helping others and is living his purpose as the voice of system-impacted individuals that are now in a re-entry program. His experience with law enforcement, prison and parole, qualifies him to create a responsive narrative to reform system-based policies and laws. Here is some more info about our guest He's been appointed to the Reentry Council as: The Sentencing Commissioner; resides as the co-chair on the Legislation, Policy, and Practices subcommittee; and a member of the Direct Services subcommittee. He has just been appointed to the San Francisco Sheriff Oversight Board. He volunteers his time with several organizations dedicated to system impacted people: United Playaz, The Adachi Project, Marin Shakespeare Company, and the former host of One Community One Mic for All Of Us Or None. He is now the Exec Director of Life After Next - https://www.lifeafternext.org... and they're looking for people to invest in the lives of others. This is a black arts and culture site. We will be exploring the African Diaspora via the writing, performance, both musical and theatrical (film and stage), as well as the visual arts of Africans in the Diaspora and those influenced by these aesthetic forms of expression. I am interested in the political and social ramifications of art on society, specifically movements supported by these artists and their forebearers. It is my claim that the artists are the true revolutionaries, their work honest and filled with raw unedited passion. They are our true heroes. Ashay! 1. Dorsey Nunn, Executive Director, Legal Services for Prisoners with Children, updates us on current issues like the voting rights act for former prisoners and a conference Sept. 20-21 in Oakland.  prisonerswithchildren.org 2.
