Skepticality is almost a decade old. In light of the upcoming landmark, Derek and the show's usual crew of contributors decided they needed to start bringing to listeners different content to supplement the standard format. Today, we present the first installment of Skepticality: On The Side in which you can listen in on Derek, Susan Gerbic, Tim Farley, and Bob Blaskiewicz as they discuss the history of Skepticality, and some of the hot topics they have been following in the realms of skeptical thought and pseudoscience.

Here is the "official" way to look up your Federal Representatives from USA.gov www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml it is however kind of klunky. After a small amount of searching I found this site to be more user friendly. http://whoismyrepresentative.com/ although I won't take responsibility for the ads on the site. You can follow this story, and download the actual FDA documents related to Stanislaw Burzynski at http://thehoustoncancerquack.com/ read up more on the the Burzynski Clinic on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burzynski_Clinic Other blogs and sites to follow for this story include: The OTHER Burzynski Patient Group at http://theotherburzynskipatientgroup.wordpress.com/ Science Based Medicine http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?s=Stanislaw+Burzynski Orac, an actual oncologist as opposed to Burzynski who is not, writes at Respectful Insolence http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/?s=burzynski You can follow Bob Blaskiewicz on twitter @rjblaskiewicz and catch him on the virtual skeptics at http://virtualskeptics.com/ (It's like Meet the Press, but with Skeptics!) My introduction of Bob was completely lifted from the NECSS speaker bio, and I take no credit for how well it was worded. http://necss.org/speakers/bob-blaskiewicz/ For more information on NECSS check out their website http://necss.org/ Intro and bumper music is provided by Obsidian Shell, find them in iTunes or head over to http://www.obsidianshell.com/ Closing music provided by The Small Wonder Experience. You can find them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/TheSmallWonderExperience or head over to their website http://smallwonderexperience.com/ where you can read biographies, buy their music, and get in touch with the band (maybe schedule a booking even). Thanks for all the downloads, thanks for all the listens, I love you all. Be Beautiful and Safe! -Maddy
Murder! Obscenity! Fornication! Villainy! Kidnapping! Infanticide! Insanity! Torture! Prostitution! Just another day at the convent, according to Maria Monk, perhaps America's most widely published author before Harriet Beecher Stowe released Uncle Tom's Cabin. Wonder over the biggest American controversy of its day! Hear about those who were responsible for scandalizing a nation! Marvel at the skeptics who got to the truth of the matter! And learn, if your heart is strong enough, what the nuns have buried in the basement! What About Bob? Bob Blaskiewicz received his Ph.D in English from Saint Louis University. He specializes in twentieth-century American literature and culture, and wrote his dissertation on the fiction and memoirs of American combat veterans of the Second World War. He is a Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow in the Writing and Communication Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, where he teaches writing and communication classes that take extraordinary claims as their subject. His most recent classes include Science and Pseudoscience, American Conspiracy Theories, and Writing about World War II in Film and Literature (Spring 2011). He is currently the Chair of the Steering Committee for the Atlanta chapter of the Independent Investigations Group (IIG-Atlanta), a research group and public resource for information about the paranormal and extraordinary. IIG-Atlanta also has a standing $50,000 challenge for anyone who can provide evidence demonstrating the existence of the paranormal, occult, or supernatural under properly controlled conditions. This week Derek sits down with Tom Merritt to discuss why it is important to use some critical thinking when it comes to passionate issues such as the much reported working conditions at computer manufacturer Foxconn, a large supplier of Apple components. Then, Bob Blaskiewicz, and Eve Siebert join him to talk about the many reasons we know that Shakespeare was actually the man who penned the famous plays of the Globe Theater and how the movie 'Anonymous' is steeped in fiction based on all available evidence.
