Why do ships and planes vanish without a trace in the Bermuda Triangle? If you draw up a map, trace a line connecting the island of Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Miami, and back to Bermuda, what do you get? Yes, it's a triangle – a sinister polygon known for mysteriously swallowing over 2,000 ships and 200 aircraft over centuries! And here's a story about the Bermuda Triangle you probably didn't hear about. So, the airplane involved was a Beechcraft Bonanza single-engine aircraft. Onboard, pilot Bruce Gernon had two passengers: his father and business partner. They took off from Andros Island in the Bahamas and headed northwest for the Florida coast. It was December 4, 1970. This was a typical flight Bruce had made dozens of times before! But this time would be different. They would face really unexplainable and maybe even mysterious things… Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

“Start scared. Start before you're ready.” Lasting success rarely comes from waiting until the stars align—it comes from starting before you're ready, staying consistent, and having the courage to take messy action. The principles that create real progress aren't flashy; they're rooted in clarity about what matters most and the discipline to align daily life with those values. In this conversation, Lan Phan opens up about her journey of transformation—shifting from chasing titles to living with purpose. She highlights the power of small daily choices, the mindset required to build resilience, and the importance of asking for opportunities instead of waiting for them. Her perspective shows that fulfillment isn't found in status but in designing a life that reflects your true priorities. Lan Phan is the founder of Community of Seven, a global leadership strategist, keynote speaker, and author of Do This Daily. She equips leaders and entrepreneurs to align values, mindset, and habits so they can build businesses—and lives—that thrive. Expert action steps: 1. Start before you feel ready—accept early imperfection as the price of progress. 2. Turn identity into action—set daily systems and keep them relentlessly. 3. Bet on yourself—trust your ability to figure things out when the branch shakes. Learn more & connect: https://www.communityofseven.com/ Lan's book, Do This Daily: Secrets to Finding Success, Happiness, and Purpose in Work and Life is available on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble. While Sam and Max spend the week at Bigsound, in Something New, it's big pop times across the board for both of the lads. My guest in this episode is Nicola Leyland. Nicola has two children who are now 19 and 17. Her journey to unschooling began when her son was just eight years old and had an accident that resulted in a brain injury. Nicola talks about her experience of seeing everything fall apart, and her son's traumatic return to school, and the consequences of following what others said she should do rather than what she felt was right. And she shares the journey of taking her children out of school and slowly building something new that's based on choice and agency. We talk about the freedom that Nicola has also found as she has unpicked the social conditioning she grew up with, and her rediscovered creativity that she now channels into making short films about her family's experience. Something NEW this football season... join us every Monday night to review the game on Saturday with some in-depth thoughts and analysis.
Acts 1 teaches us that seasons of waiting are not wasted but vital for spiritual preparation. The early church's first act after Christ's ascension was to obey His command to wait and pray, establishing godly leadership while refusing passivity. True leadership seeks towels not titles, following Christ who washed feet rather than demanding position, reminding us that influence for God's glory matters more than any earthly title.

“Being brave enough to suck at sales for the next month, two months, three months, six months, year, is what's gonna have your business go from tragic to magic in the most uncommon of hours.” Stepping into something new isn't about instant mastery—it's about embracing the messy, awkward, and uncomfortable first stages of learning. Growth happens when you push past the safety of what you know, take on challenges that stretch your skills, and keep showing up despite early failures. Progress is built on consistency, courage, and the willingness to look bad before you get good. This is the power of “being brave enough to suck at something new,” especially when it comes to sales. Whether you're a coach, consultant, or thought leader, avoiding the discomfort of new skills keeps you stuck on the same plateau. By committing to imperfect action, embracing the “suck,” and building momentum, you can go from struggling to closing deals with confidence and mastery. Series: On the Move – Navigating Transition TriumphantlyDate: August 3, 2025Episode Description:Have you ever felt like God was calling you to step into something new—but your past kept pulling you back? In this powerful message from the On the Move series, Pastor [Your Name] unpacks the truth that God cannot pour new wine into old wineskins. If you want to receive the fullness of what He's preparing, you must be willing to let go of what no longer serves your destiny.Drawing from Isaiah 43:18-19, Exodus 36:5-7, and other key Scriptures, this teaching will help you: Recognize and release the “unnecessary weights” holding you back—past hurt, guilt, fear, toxic relationships, wrong priorities, and more Understand why holding onto the old can block new opportunities, hinder growth, and burden your soul Embrace God's pruning process so you can bear more and richer fruit Step into new purpose, fresh anointing, and a season of blessing and abundance Trust His plan even when the path ahead feels unfamiliar Whether you're moving into a new job, relationship, ministry, or simply a fresh season of life, this episode will inspire you to let go, trust God's direction, and position yourself for the “new thing” He is springing forth in your life.

If you're in a season of change and find yourself wanting to try new things, the idea of possible rejection and failure can stop you before you start. As I'm in a season of evolution myself, I've been thinking a lot about what it takes to start something new. I've also been reading Worthy by IT Cosmetics founder and entrepreneur, Jamie Kern Lima. One of my absolute favorite learnings she shares from her experience building a business that started in her living room to then selling it for $1.2 billion to L'Oréal is that rejection is a reminder that you're one of the brave ones. Description: Katie Sturino is one of those people who makes you feel instantly braver just by being in the room. With her bold fashion choices, unfiltered honesty, and joyful presence online, the powerhouse founder of Megababe, style influencer, and unapologetic voice for body confidence has inspired so many of us to rethink how we see our bodies and ourselves. Her first book Body Talk, part memoir, part manifesto, focused on the all too important topic of learning to love the skin you're in. Now, she's back—and this time, she's putting her hand to fiction! Of course, we wanted to talk to this multi-hyphenate about what it's like flexing yet another new muscle. Katie and Jen talk about the inspiration behind Sunny Side Up, a book Jennifer Weiner has called a modern-day Bridget Jones' Diary (without the toxic self-loathing) and Katie shares what the writing process was like, an experience Katie equated to being put through a pasta machine. She and Jen also reminisce about when they first met almost a year ago—backstage at an Oprah special and the grueling decisions they grabbed with (as so many women do for such an event)—what to wear. Thought-provoking Quotes: “I lead with solution. That is the thing that's consistent for me because I love business. I love talking to people about the businesses they wanna start, the businesses that they're running. I like solving problems.” – Katie Sturino “We love turning on a woman online. We love it—everything from Meghan Markle dancing in birthing room and Blake Lively. We just love turning on women. It's like sport.” Katie Sturino “I don't have the MBA. I feel like most businesses that are dreamed up are done in a Harvard think tank, and I don't have that. So that's another thing that I feel insecure about, because whenever I'm up on panels or in a room full of similar founders, their stories have a really specific ladder and I'm like in my parents' garage, you know, it's different.” – Katie Sturino “Writing this book was the hardest thing I have ever done. This was awful. I'm gonna say that out loud so that if anyone out there is like, I'm gonna write a book one day—pop that bubble! Pop that bubble! It's not you in a cozy room with a typewriter and a mug. It's like open eyeball surgery while you're awake. It's really hard.” – Katie Sturino Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Making the Shift: A new way to think about weight - https://www.weightwatchers.com/makingtheshift/ Megababe - https://megababebeauty.com/ The Deodorant Jen swears by - https://megababebeauty.com/collections/pits Sunny Side Up: A Novel by Katie Sturino - https://amzn.to/3SLK1qd Tressie McMillan Cottom - https://tressiemc.com/ Using Storytelling to Address Complex Social Issues: Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-64/using-storytelling-to-address-complex-social-issues-dr-tressie-mcmillan-cottom/ #SupersizeTheLook - https://www.instagram.com/explore/search/keyword/?q=%23supersizethelook Kitty & Vibe: Katie Sturino Swimsuit Collection - https://www.kittyandvibe.com/collections/sunny-side-up Guest's Links: Website - https://megababebeauty.com/pages/about Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/katiesturino/ Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmlgRDiOCywtaamAc5q-7VQ TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@katiesturino Substack - https://katiesturino.substack.com/p/katie-sturino-writer Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/boob-sweat-with-katie-sturino/id1483683205 Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy.
