Hackaday Editors Tom Nardi and Al Williams spent the weekend at Supercon and had to catch up on all the great hacks. Listen in as they talk about their favorites. Plus, stick around to the end to hear about some of the highlights from their time in Pasadena. If you're still thinking about entering the Component Abuse Contest, you're just about out of time. Need some inspiration? Tom and Al talk about a few choice entries, and discuss how pushing parts out of their comfort zone can come in handy. Do you make your own PCBs? With vias? If you have a good enough laser, you could. Or maybe you'd rather have a $10 Linux server? Just manage your expectations. The guys both admit they aren't mechanical geniuses and, unlike [4St4r], aren't very good at guessing sounds either. They round up with some 3D printing projects and a collection of quick hacks.

The story of the hunt for one of the most notorious serial killers in recent American history--the BTK killer, who terrorized the Wichita, Kansas, area for years. After committing at least seven brutal murders, BTK (for Bind, Torture, Kill) vanished for over 25 years before sending clues of his crimes to the media in 2004. Troubling predators are invading all privacy as the evolution of stalking is fueled by the digital age. It's burner phones, sock puppet accounts and delusional ranting. There's a hater in the hobby group. It's into criminal harassment now. Delusional Feds think they're helping. GROK will actively profile you as a user. It's mostly all from one person who never stops. With Millie, the kids come first. Record all phone calls. They get mad when they can't topple you. Recognizing patterns is key. It's about domination thru identity distortion and narrative control. Feigning sympathy is a common tactic. Systematic psychological warfare is targeting those who refuse to submit. Using unstable perps as groomed followers. Just like the intel groups. The law typically looks away. Is it the sexy bag thing? The attacks are structured. Mapping out the attack networks. The internet is now a battlefield. Being mentally ill helps with the effort. Seeing Nyx drop was the hardest thing. Bisquit was happy to see Nyx the dog come home. It's a scary person that takes pleasure in hurting a dog. They have told us once again what type of evil enemy they are.

Brad entertains us with his boot camp tale of being so bad at marching that his drill sergeant had him shovel snow instead. Jacob chimes in with his own witty observations, questioning the logic of trusting Pauly Shore with any mission and highlighting the camel as the film's true hero. If you were living in Western Europe in the late middle ages and early modern age, you might well come across partly eaten humans, whilst walking around in the woods, or even, alas, strolling in Paris. OBVIOUSLY these partly eaten humans had been attacked by werewolves! Duh! There were a lot of real wolves roaming around, attacking humans, if the wolves had rabies, or there was a widespread famine affecting all the living beings, but of course the real wolves hadn't attacked and partly eaten the people you were stumbling over. No. It was the fault of actual humans, who, for nefarious reasons, had made deals with the Devil, and therefore could become wolves whenever they wanted, with the help of magic girdles and whatnot. Your hosts discuss the connection of werewolves with witches in the late middle ages and early modern era. Really, that would be the point of all this. But Anne is fascinated both by real wolves and the fact that it was only Western Europe that was in on this nonsense, on account of Eastern Europe doing other things altogether, and Michelle explains Peter Stumpp, who was ONLY a werewolf and not a witch, apparently. Also, John Steinbeck gets involved. Happy Halloween!

From the outside, the Knotek home looked ordinary, just another farmhouse tucked behind the trees on the Washington coast. Inside, though, things were different. Unnecessarily crammed with junk, this year's spooky six-pack is an adjunct party that no one ever wanted to be invited to, as we're on to our ninth iteration of the infamous Torture Test. We both try to outdo one another by attacking our flavor weaknesses - or just finding straight-up old catastrophes of beers that were probably never good in the first place. The goal is to avoid the Cuvée of Doom, but we can't avoid descriptors like "rancid piña colada," "wet basement cardboard," dirty old pennies," "liquified grandma's candy," and "diet medicine." But also, you can find out what keeps Ryan awake at night, and Craig realizes he can't coast on last year's domination anymore. For over thirty years, Wichita, Kansas lived in fear of a man who called himself BTK — Bind, Torture, Kill. He murdered ten people, including children, and then vanished for years at a time, taunting police and the press with letters that were as cruel as the crimes themselves. But the most disturbing part of this story isn't just the brutality of his murders — it's how Dennis Rader, the man behind BTK, managed to live a perfectly ordinary life right in plain sight. He was a husband. A father. A church council president.A city compliance officer. And behind all of it — a sadistic killer who hid in the open for more than three decades. In this episode of The Redacted Report, we dig into the full story of Dennis Rader — not just the crimes, but the psychology and deception that let him walk unnoticed among his victims' families and his community. We trace his path from a disturbed Kansas kid fascinated by control and bondage to the day he finally slipped — undone by his own arrogance and a floppy disk that revealed his name. You'll hear how Rader meticulously planned each murder, how he craved attention more than anything else, and how his need to be recognized ultimately destroyed him. We revisit the detectives who refused to give up on the cold case, the technological breakthroughs that caught him decades later, and the haunting question that lingers: how does someone capable of such horror look so normal? From his chilling phone calls to the police to his bizarre confessions in court, this is the story of a man who wanted to be remembered — and of the investigators who made sure he would be, but not in the way he imagined. The Redacted Report: BTK – The Killer Next Door pulls back the curtain on one of America's most terrifying killers — and exposes how easily evil can hide behind a familiar smile.

In this gripping episode of The Guilty Files Podcast, we go beyond the headlines and dive deep into one of America's most haunting true crime stories — the life and legacy of Dennis Rader, the BTK Killer. “Bind. Torture. Kill.” Three words that held an entire city hostage for more than three decades while a monster disguised himself as an ordinary man.Dennis Rader wasn't the drifter or loner that popular culture paints as a serial killer. He was a husband, a father, a Boy Scout leader, and the council president of his church. By day, he enforced city ordinances in Park City, Kansas, measuring grass heights and citing residents for leaving trash cans out too early. By night, he fed a sadistic fantasy life that would claim ten lives and terrorize an entire community. His obsession with control and his ability to mask it behind a façade of normalcy made him one of the most chilling killers in modern history. This episode traces Rader's story from his early years in Pittsburg, Kansas — where his fascination with bondage and cruelty took root — to his years of military service, marriage, and eventual descent into a life of hidden predation. We explore how his childhood acts of animal torture and fetishism went unrecognized as red flags, how he weaponized his day jobs at ADT Security and as a municipal compliance officer to study his victims, and how his twisted need for power became ritualized in his killings. We follow the trajectory of BTK's crimes, beginning with the horrifying Otero family murders in 1974 and continuing through his series of killings that left Wichita living in fear. We unpack the infamous letters, poems, and packages that he sent to police and the media — the communications that transformed the murders into a decades-long psychological game. We also examine the eerie fourteen-year period of silence where Rader appeared to vanish, though he was in fact living quietly among the very people who feared him most. From his eventual return to taunting law enforcement in 2004, to the digital blunder that led to his downfall — a single floppy disk containing traceable metadata — this episode brings listeners inside the meticulous investigation that finally unmasked BTK.You'll hear how decades-old DNA from the Otero crime scene and a sample taken from Rader's daughter's medical record closed one of America's most elusive cold cases. We break down the courtroom confession that stunned the nation, where Rader clinically detailed each murder with chilling composure. We highlight the courage of survivors and the families of victims like Charlie Otero, who has carried the weight of trauma since discovering his family's murder at age fifteen. We also look at the profound role of forensic innovation and patience — how careful evidence preservation and evolving DNA technology turned a forgotten case file into the key that finally locked BTK away for good.Beyond the crimes, this episode delves into the mind of Dennis Rader — a study in compartmentalization, ego, and deviance. We examine how he managed to separate “Dennis the family man” from “BTK the killer,” why he craved recognition more than escape, and what his case reveals about the psychology of control. We also confront the unanswered questions: Were there more victims? How did he suppress his urges for years at a time? And how does someone who claims to love his family justify the systematic destruction of others? Finally, we explore the aftermath: Rader's life inside the El Dorado Correctional Facility, where he remains in protective custody and continues to seek attention through letters and interviews. We discuss his daughter Kerri Rawson's memoir, A Serial Killer's Daughter, her path toward healing, and the broader impact of the BTK case on law enforcement and society's understanding of how ordinary evil hides in plain sight. The Guilty Files delivers not just the crimes, but the psychology, the investigation, and the enduring questions that still surround Dennis Rader. This is more than a true crime story — it's a chilling reminder that the most dangerous predators can look just like us, and that justice sometimes depends on the details we refuse to ignore.
In this episode of Movie Torture, they finish up Hannah's least favorite month and conclude it with 1998's "Urban Legend," Baby Hands Brad reminisces about seeing the Noxzema girl on the big screen, while the Gothfather Jacob insists the first victim was offed for her horrendous singing and laments never discovering the goth dating site that could have changed his life. The First Lady Hannah provides a compelling argument for why every character deserved their fate, and MTD's presence is as mysterious as the film's plot twists. Join us as we debate whether the killer was more motivated by revenge or just a bad hair day, and why this movie is somehow a cult classic despite its best efforts to be anything but. Focusing on India between the early nineteenth century and the First World War, Colonial Terror explores the centrality of the torture of Indian bodies to the law-preserving violence of colonial rule and some of the ways in which extraordinary violence was embedded in the ordinary operation of colonial states. Although enacted largely by Indians on Indian bodies, particularly by subaltern members of the police, the book argues that torture was facilitated, systematized, and ultimately sanctioned by first the East India Company and then the Raj because it benefitted the colonial regime, since rendering the police a source of terror played a key role in the construction and maitenance of state sovereignty.Drawing upon the work of both Giorgio Agamben and Michel Foucault, Colonial Terror contends, furthermore, that it is only possible to understand the terrorizing nature of the colonial police in India by viewing colonial India as a 'regime of exception' in which two different forms of exceptionality were in operation - one wrought through the exclusion of particular groups or segments of the Indian population from the law and the other by petty sovereigns in their enactment of illegal violence in the operation of the law. It was in such fertile ground, in which colonial subjects were both included within the domain of colonial law while also being abandoned by it, that torture was able to flourish. https://patreon.com/marieshadowsHey friends,Today, I want to break down the Super Junior Tag League 2025 with you—every team, every potential story, and the bigger picture of where New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) is right now. We're going to talk about everything: from Hiromu and Gato's wild mismatched team to the missed opportunities with AEW and other promotions.First off, the tag teams:Hiromu and Gato: Honestly, this is one of the strangest pairings in NJPW history. I love what both do in the ring, but I just can't take them seriously as a team. That said, they're the sleeper team to watch. Don't be surprised if they steal a few moments of the show.Ichiban Sweet Boys – Robbie Eagles and Kosei Fujita: Returning champions, last year's winners. They're going to be dominant, fun to watch, and could carry most of the tournament's spotlight. Robbie and Kosei always amplify the energy.Bullet Club War Dogs – Taiji Ishimori and Robbie X: Taiji is solid as ever. Robbie X? I feel he tries too hard with flashy moves that sometimes look cartoonish. Still, as a duo, they'll likely steal the show in the Tag League.El Desperado and Kukai: Debuting team with strong chemistry. El Desperado consistently picks quality partners, so this is one to keep an eye on.Tiger Mask and Yamato: Another debut pairing. Tiger Mask is heading into retirement, so this could be a fun send-off, though I'm not expecting them to win.Kushida and Yuki Yoshioka: Debuting as well. Kushida is incredible, but I don't see this team advancing far.House of Torture – Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Dick Togo: Expect chaos. Anything can happen here, and shenanigans will be guaranteed.IWGP Junior Tag Champs – Doki and Sho: These veterans always have tricks up their sleeves.Beyond the matches themselves, I want to talk about the bigger picture of NJPW:We need fresh storytelling. Repeating the same faces over and over is stifling. The Super Junior Tag League could have been an opportunity to bring in new teams from All Japan, Pro Wrestling NOAH, TNA, and even AEW. Instead, we're seeing missed opportunities for collaboration and growth. The AEW partnership is not serving NJPW well. Wrestlers aren't being utilized to maximize storylines, and money is being left on the table. For example, Jack Perry as a potential House of Torture member could've been huge for Super Junior, but it never materialized. The Dojo system is still strong, but it's no longer clear who the “next big stars” are. NJPW used to cultivate talent visibly and create a sense of legacy. That clarity is gone, and it affects fan engagement.NJPW must start building slowly, branching out, and taking control back. Partnerships are fine, but they shouldn't dictate who wins titles or who represents NJPW.Constructive criticism is key here. I love NJPW, and I will continue to use my voice to advocate for story growth, collaboration, and giving fans the chance to see new talent thrive. Blind positivity doesn't help anyone; we need balance—acknowledging flaws while celebrating strengths.I want to hear from you: how excited are you for the Super Junior Tag League 2025? Which teams do you think will shine? Let's keep this conversation thoughtful, honest, and constructive. Thanks for reading, engaging, and helping me keep independent wrestling commentary alive.
This week, while Dave Bittner is on vacation, hosts Joe Carrigan, and Maria Varmazis (also host of the T-Minus Space Daily show) are sharing the latest in social engineering scams, phishing schemes, and criminal exploits that are making headlines. Users are reporting a potential new Signal scam involving fake in-app messages posing as official support, though Signal confirms it never contacts users first and only communicates via Signal email addresses. Joe's story is on South Korea targeting Cambodia's scam industry after reports of kidnappings, torture, and a death, as officials crack down on criminal groups luring citizens into forced online fraud operations across Southeast Asia. Daniel calls it a contest of affinity, the more Trump style you are, like Argentina and El Salvador, the more privileged your treatment. Those countries wishing to remain independent, like Colombia and Venezuela, are facing the impositions of the 19th century From CUBA- The Colombian President Petro denies the Trump accusation that he involved in drug trafficking and says the Colombian military will not assist the US in overthrowing Maduro in Venezuela. He also accuses Trump of violating a free trade agreement between the nations, harming attempts to diversify agriculture in Colombia. Israel is continuing its raids in Gaza despite agreeing to a ceasefire, and in the West Bank Israeli settlers made 71 attacks on Palestinians in the past week, beating them and driving them off their property. From GERMANY- Israel released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for hostages and many of them were tortured while in Israeli prisons without being charged with crimes. An interview with Helena Sola Martin of the World Organization Against Torture. She discusses the Israeli policy of detention without charging and banning the International Red Cross from monitoring the 18,000 Palestinians they detained. The prisoners reported beatings, lack of food and medicine, humiliation and cruelty. The Quaker experiment at Eastern State Penitentiary was meant to be a sanctuary for the soul, a place to reform criminals through silence and reflection. Instead, it accidentally engineered a form of psychological torture: solitary confinement. This episode uncovers the complicated history of this "Great Experiment" and then journeys to the offices of AFSC Prison Watch, where a new generation of Quaker activists are confronting this legacy by listening to the raw, firsthand accounts of people who have survived the modern system. ---------------------------------------------Westtown School, a leading Quaker day school for Pre-K to 12th grade is hosting Open Houses this Fall. For nearly 175 years — from 1563 until its repeal in 1736 — this act stood as part of Scotland's law. In that time, it is estimated that 3,000 to 5,000 people were accused of witchcraft. Of those, a staggering 84 percent were women. Torture, often in the form of sleep deprivation and relentless interrogation, was routine. Executions followed — frequently by strangulation or burning — and their bodies were often destroyed so they could not even be buried, denied the final dignity of rest. Our guests know this story better than anyone.Today, we're joined by Claire Mitchell KC — a distinguished Scottish lawyer, specialising in criminal defence, constitutional and human rights law. She is co-founder of the Witches of Scotland campaign, which seeks posthumous pardons, a memorial, and an official apology for those persecuted under the Witchcraft Act.Zoe Venditozzi is a writer, teacher, and co-campaigner. Born and raised in Fife, she brings storytelling, archival curiosity, and moral urgency to this mission. Her literary debut Anywhere's Better Than Here won the Guardian's Not the Booker popular prize; now with Claire she's co-author of How to Kill a Witch: A Guide for the Patriarchy.Their new book weaves together legal history, archival testimony, fictional vignettes, and sharp critique. It lifts the stories of those accused — women, and a few men — out of dusty court records and into the present. It asks: how did this system become possible, and how do we make amends? In this episode of the Crack House Chronicles Donnie and Dale tell the story of Colleen Slemmer and her murder by Christa Pike. Christa Pike was 18-years-old when she thought her 19-year-old job corps classmate, Colleen Slemmer, was trying to steal her boyfriend, Tadaryl Shipp. Pike spent over 30-minutes beating Colleen with her hands and feet, as well as a box cutter and a meat cleaver. Colleen tried to escape. Shipp caught her so Pike could continue the beating. Pike carved a pentagram into her chest, used the box cutter to slice her throat. When she didn't die, Pike picked up a chunk of asphalt and slammed it onto her head. The next day Pike brought a piece of Colleen's skull to breakfast and told classmates what she had done. https://www.crackhousechronicles.com/ https://linktr.ee/crackhousechronicles https://www.tiktok.com/@crackhousechronicles https://www.facebook.com/crackhousechronicles Check out our MERCH! https://www.teepublic.com/user/crackhousechronicles SOURCES: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christa_Pike https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/tennessees-execution-of-christa-pike-would-make-her-the-first-woman-to-be-executed-in-the-state-in-over-200-years https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/unforbiddentruth/episodes/Interview-with-Christa-Pike-Part-II-ekpc39 https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/unforbiddentruth/episodes/Interview-with-Christa-Pike-Part-I-ekm9b5

On January 15, 1974, 15-year-old Charlie Otero and his siblings came home in Wichita, Kansas, to find their family murdered — the first known victims of the BTK killer: Bind, Torture, Kill. Dennis Rader, a father, church leader, and city worker, hid in plain sight while terrorising a community for decades. After years of taunting the police, he was finally caught in 2005. His daughter, Kerri Rawson, later shared her story. In the new Netflix documentary My Father the BTK Killer, director Skye Borgman explores Kerri’s journey. She also directed Unknown Number, about Kendra Licari — the mother who anonymously harassed her own daughter online for nearly a year. Skye joins us to talk about both disturbing true crime stories. Yu Menglong, a famous actor is confirmed to be dead. The authorities say he fell to his death from the 5th floor of a luxury Beijing apartment that wasn't his. They say it's just a drunk accident and quickly rule out any foul play. They don't investigate the dozen plus partygoers in the apt that evening…They don't even investigate further into his death. Instead, the authorities begin censoring any netizens openly questioning the events of that night. Livestreams are shut down mid-stream.Comments and profiles get taken down and deleted. Still, netizens are one step ahead as a video slips through the cracks.Bloodcurdling screams are captured on audio. A man begging for his life between cries. A conspiracy spreads like wildfire: Yu Menglong was tortured to death after he swallowed a USB containing government secrets. Could there be truth to this theory? Why would a government go so far to censor a movie star's death? And why are there rumors saying his mother has now gone missing… Full show notes at RottenMangoPodcast.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
