Back with another show jam packed with...stuff.First, we dive into the sewer to get to the bottom of the Alligator myth. Then we introduce you to The Savage Narrator. And you better listen to him."Kidnapping" with a whole new twist. And, of course, Weird News!
More than 300 children were kidnapped from a school in the Western Nigerian village of Papiri in November, but in the aftermath, accounts of the kidnappings were confused and misleading. BBC Africa's Madina Maishanu was part of a team of journalists who faced huge risk to visit the site of the kidnappings and hear the testimonies of parents. In October this year, a young Chechen woman living in Armenia, Aishat Baimuradova, was killed. She'd previously escaped a repressive life in Chechnya but is now believed to be the first Chechen woman in exile to be killed outside of Russia. BBC Russian's Zlata Onufrieva and Olga Prosvirova set out what is known about Aishat's life and death, and consider the implications of her killing for Chechen women living in exile. This episode of The Documentary comes to you from The Fifth Floor, the show at the heart of global storytelling, with BBC journalists from all around the world. Presented by Faranak Amidi. Produced by Laura Thomas, Caroline Ferguson and Hannah Dean. (Photo: Faranak Amidi. Credit: Tricia Yourkevich.)
By January 2007, all five suspects were in custody. Prosecutors had charged them with 46 counts including murder, rape, kidnapping, and robbery. Between 2008-2010, four separate trials resulted in convictions. It seemed like justice had finally been served and the families could breathe. Then a scandal involving the judge, who presided over the trials, would rock their worlds. Because of his demons, the families would have to go through it all over again.Support ResourcesFor Survivors of Violence:https://www.rainn.org/ - RAINN (1-800-656-4673)https://www.thehotline.org/ - National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233)https://www.crisistextline.org/ - Crisis Text Line (Text HOME to 741741)https://988lifeline.org/ - 988 Suicide & Crisis LifelineFor Families of Murder Victims:https://www.pomc.org/ - Parents of Murdered Childrenhttps://victimsofcrime.org/ - National Center for Victims of Crimehttps://www.ncvc.org/ - National Crime Victim Law InstituteSources:https://www.newspapers.com/ (Historical archive - subscription required)https://www.knoxnews.com/ (Search "Christian Newsom" for extensive archive)https://abcnews.go.com/ (Search "Channon Christian")https://www.cnn.com/ (Coverage of trials and scandal)https://www.foxnews.com/ (Michelle Malkin coverage 2007)https://www.wbir.com/ (WBIR-TV extensive trial coverage)https://www.wate.com/ (WATE 6 On Your Side)https://www.wvlt.tv/ (WVLT Local 8 News)https://www.tncourts.gov/ (Tennessee State Courts)https://www.tsc.state.tn.us/ (Tennessee Supreme Court opinions)https://www.knoxcounty.org/criminal/ (Knox County Criminal Court)https://law.justia.com/cases/tennessee/ (Tennessee case law database)https://scholar.google.com/ (Search: "State v. Trigger Warning: This extraordinary miracle story contains mention of non-graphic, contextual violence. Abducted as a fifth grader, Chris was abducted. He survived a brutal attack being stabbed multiple times, shot in the head, and left for dead in the Florida everglades' alligator alley (alligators and pythons). Miraculously, he was found alive six days later. Years later, Chris faced his attacker, David McAllister, and chose to forgive him. This episode delves into Chris's journey of faith, healing, and the transformative power of forgiveness, offering hope and encouragement to anyone struggling with their own burdens of unforgiveness. 00:00 A Harrowing Encounter 00:50 Introduction to the Podcast 02:23 Chris's Childhood and the Day Everything Changed 03:44 The Kidnapping and Assault 09:19 Survival Against All Odds 16:01 The Aftermath and Investigation 20:00 The Healing Journey Begins 23:28 Sharing the Story and Finding Purpose 28:44 A New Beginning in Ministry 29:45 A Detective's Call, "We have found him." 32:01 Meeting Mr. McAllister 34:24 A Moment of Forgiveness 40:10 Sharing the Gospel 44:06 Reflections on Forgiveness 49:38 Messages of Hope 53:29 Closing Thoughts and Prayer "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Joaquín Guzmán López, the son of El Chapo, pled guilty to drug trafficking in a federal court in Chicago on Monday, and signed a plea agreement in which he confessed to kidnapping Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada (referred to as Individual A) and flying him to the United States to hand into U.S. justice. Any reader of CrashOut knows we have been deep into this story all the way (check out the archive), and I break down what was revealed with Joaquín Jr's confession. In 1953, a horrific kidnapping and murder captured the attention of the nation. The perpetrators were Carl Austin Hall and Bonnie Emily Brown Heady and the victim was a sweet and innocent six-year-old boy named Bobby Greenlease. Bonnie and Carl were put to death in the gas chamber at the Missouri State Penitentiary for their crime. And it would seem that although their bodies left the prison, their spirits have not and they continue to haunt the abandoned halls of death row. Prosecutors, judges, and jurors struggled to maintain composure. This episode documents what happened during those 36 hours. Explore why Nigerian artistes such as Davido, Rema, Falz, and IllBliss are using social media to highlight insecurity across the country. This episode breaks down kidnappings, ransom trends, and the critical role of celebrity voices in shaping national awareness. We examine why artistes are speaking out about insecurity and how their online reactions reflect the growing crisis in Nigeria. While not a deep dive, the discussion provides an accurate, surface-level understanding of verified incidents including kidnappings, bandit attacks, and rising ransom demands. Analysts now describe these trends as the economy of insecurity. The episode shows how artistes leverage their social platforms to raise awareness. They are not profiting from these crises but amplifying updates, responding to attacks, and drawing attention to the kidnap-for-ransom epidemic. Documented posts and public statements from Davido, Rema, Falz, IllBliss, and others illustrate this pattern.Listeners gain insight into how repeated attacks across multiple states, increasing ransom payments, and widespread fear have created a criminal ecosystem that functions like an economy. The conversation also explains why artistes feel compelled to speak publicly and how their online responses influence national awareness. For a deeper, data-driven analysis, read the full Substack article Nigeria's Kidnap for Ransom Industry: The Economy of Insecurity here:

The shocking truth behind the Baby Cyrus case reveals far more than a single family's nightmare — it exposes a nationwide system of medical kidnapping, government corruption, and taxpayer-funded child trafficking happening in America right now. In this urgent and emotional conversation, Michael Jaco sits down with Diego Rodriguez, grandfather of Baby Cyrus, to recount the day Idaho police, hospital personnel, and Child Protective Services worked together to forcibly seize his grandson without lawful cause. Diego explains how CPS, backed by federal incentive programs, has become a government-subsidized trafficking pipeline that profits every time a child is taken from their parents. Through firsthand testimony, documents, and hard-won experience, he paints a devastating picture of a system where doctors, social workers, and law enforcement act in coordination — not to protect children, but to remove them. Michael and Diego discuss the corrupt machinery behind medical targeting, the intimidation tactics used against parents, and the disturbing financial motives that allow CPS agencies across the country to seize children with little oversight or accountability. They also speak about the emotional toll on families, the legal obstruction victims face, and why cases like Baby Cyrus are only one small window into a much larger national crisis. This conversation connects directly to the new documentary Never in America by Ryan Matta, which exposes how government agencies, medical institutions, and law enforcement form a network that masquerades as “child protection” while enabling one of the darkest systems operating within the United States today. For anyone wanting to understand what is truly happening behind the scenes of CPS, medical kidnapping, and child trafficking in America, this dialogue is essential. It offers not just the truth, but a call to stand up, speak out, and support families caught in this predatory system.
President Trump and his allies are framing the kidnappings and other attacks in Nigeria as Islamic attacks on Christians, and even threatening military actionOn Today's Show:Emmanuel Akinwotu, international correspondent for NPR, talks about the situation, including how extremist groups are killing people of all faiths in the country, not just Christians.
On July 15, 1976, a school bus carrying 26 children and their beloved driver, Ed Ray, left Chowchilla, California, after a hot day at summer school and never made it home. Blocked by a mysterious white van, the bus was hijacked by armed, masked men and driven into a hidden slough, where the victims were transferred into dark, soundproofed vans. Over the next 16 hours, they would endure an ordeal that left lasting scars: being buried alive. In this episode, we speak to Fox News Senior Correspondent Claudia Cowan, host of Nightmare in Chowchilla, to unpack the chilling ransom plot and its surprising perpetrators. Kidnapping has become a dark shadow that trails communities across Nigeria. From highways to farmlands, schools to city suburbs, families live with the fear that a single phone call could change their lives forever.Yet, despite government warnings and repeated assurances of improved security, one reality continues to define most hostage situations the payment of ransom. For many victims and their families, it is the thin line between life and death, freedom and captivity. So today on Nigeria Daily, we ask:Why do ransom payments remain central to securing the release of kidnap victims in Nigeria and is there truly any alternative?

Many listeners will remember Jack's story from Kate's 2021 interview at the time of the CNN documentary The Lost Sons, which chronicled his decades-long search to uncover who he really was—and what happened to the baby stolen from a Chicago hospital in 1964. That episode remains one of Kate's most asked-about interviews. In this follow-up conversation, Jack shares what has happened since 2021, including new investigative leads into the disappearance of his twin sister Jill, insights into the original kidnapping, and the emotional journey of reconstructing a life built on mysteries and missing pieces. In 1991, 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard was abducted on her way to the school bus in South Lake Tahoe, California. What followed was one of the most shocking and heartbreaking cases in modern true crime—eighteen years of captivity in a hidden backyard compound, two daughters born in secret, and repeated missed opportunities by law enforcement and parole officials who visited the home over fifty times. In this episode, we break down Jaycee's story as told in A Stolen Life and the A&E documentary The Abduction of Jaycee Dugard, exploring how she survived, how she stayed hidden in plain sight for nearly two decades, and how a chance encounter at UC Berkeley finally revealed the truth. Steve Gruber sits down with Maureen Steele, Co-founder of American-Made Foundation and executive producer of Taken, to discuss the shocking reality of state-sanctioned child kidnapping in America. The conversation dives deep into the CPS pipeline, including high-profile cases like the Rivera and Boyce families, where children were seized over medical, schooling, or fabricated disputes. Maureen explains how the federal funding structure incentivizes removals, leaving loving families trapped in a profit-driven system. The discussion also covers President Trump's recent executive order on foster care, revealing why it does little to dismantle the underlying structural issues. This episode highlights the urgent need for reform, exposing the financial and bureaucratic machinery behind modern foster care abuses.

In May of 2002, a St. Louis reporter received a letter with a map marked with an X and a chilling message: "To prove I'm real, here's directions to number seventeen." The map leads police to a body. Several murders have been dubbed “the crime of the century," but the Lindbergh kidnapping case of 1932 might actually deserve the title. According to some, it shaped the culture of conspiracy theories in America. Was Bruno Richard Hauptmann really guilty, or was he framed? Did he have co-conspirators? Or was the crime perpetrated by the victim's own father: the American icon with a dark side, Charles Lindbergh Sr.? If you enjoy this episode, you might also like The Death of Ned Doheny—a case that revolves around a powerful family, and that remains a source of rumor and speculation. Greed and addiction fueled a chaotic and coldblooded crime on September 28, 1953. The largest ransom request in American History at the time was demanded of Kansas City's wealthiest automobile dealer, Robert Greenlease, in exchange for his 6 year old son and namesake, Bobby Greenlease. Money wasn't the problem and the Greenleases' wasted no time to comply, it should have been cut and dry, but it is far from it. Throughout the twentieth century, few names loomed as large in the business and financial worlds as John Paul Getty. Once the richest man in the world, Getty made his fortune in the oil industry and an avid art collector, with a massive collection that served as a basis for the Getty Museum, the wealthiest museum in the world. Getty's wealth and business acumen made him a household name well beyond his death in 1976; however, that same wealth and notoriety made him a target for con artists and other criminals. Among those who sought to extort the Getty family, no attempt was more incredible and sensational than the kidnapping of Getty's favorite grandchild, J. Paul Getty III, by an Italian crime syndicate in 1973.At first, the scion of the Getty family refused to negotiate with kidnappers, arguing that, if he paid the money, they would only kidnap other members of this family. But Getty reconsidered his position just a few weeks later, when his grandson's ear arrived in the mail, with the promise of other body parts, should he not comply with their demands.ReferencesAssociated Press. 1973.
