Understanding how credit really works can help you avoid costly mistakes and make wiser financial decisions. Myth #1: Paying Off Debt Instantly Fixes Your Credit Paying down debt is always a good step—but it doesn't instantly produce a perfect credit score. A credit score reflects your history of borrowing and repayment. Lenders use it as a snapshot of how responsibly you've managed credit over time. That means improvement takes patience. The most important habit is simple: consistently pay your bills on time. Over time, that steady pattern will strengthen your credit profile. And beware of anyone claiming they can “fix your credit overnight.” Building good credit always takes time. Myth #2: Credit Counseling Ruins Your Credit Score Many people fear that seeking help will damage their credit—but that's not true. Participating in a credit counseling program is considered a neutral mark on your credit report. What can affect your score is closing accounts, not the counseling itself. In fact, nonprofit credit counseling agencies often help people regain control of their finances through structured debt management plans. If you seek help, make sure the organization is accredited and nonprofit. Myth #5: You Don't Need to Check Your Credit If You Pay Bills on Time Even responsible borrowers should check their credit reports. Studies suggest that a large percentage of credit reports contain errors. Reviewing your report once or twice a year allows you to catch mistakes or fraudulent activity early. You can obtain free reports from all three major bureaus at AnnualCreditReport.com. Correcting errors can take time—sometimes up to 90 days—so staying proactive is important. Myth #6: All Credit Reports Are the Same There are three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Different lenders may also use different scoring models depending on the type of loan—auto, mortgage, or credit card. For the most complete picture, it's wise to review all three reports. Myth #7: Divorce Automatically Removes Joint Debt Divorce agreements may divide debts between spouses—but they don't change the original credit contract. If your name remains on a joint account, you're still legally responsible for the debt. If the other person misses payments, your credit score can suffer too. That's why it's important to close joint accounts or refinance debts into one person's name whenever possible. Myth #8: All Negative Marks Disappear After Seven Years Some negative items disappear after seven years—but not all. For example: Chapter 13 bankruptcy: up to 7 years Chapter 7 bankruptcy: up to 10 years Positive closed accounts: can remain for 10 years The good news is that positive information usually stays longer than negative information, helping your score recover over time. Myth #9: You Can Pay Someone to “Fix” Your Credit Many companies promise fast credit repair—but most simply send dispute letters to creditors. If the information on your credit report is accurate, it cannot be removed. That means many consumers pay fees without seeing real results. The truth is, you can dispute errors yourself for free. Tonight we will be speaking to Seth and Seth writes "I grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia, and went to college there too. That's where this story took place. It's not a Bigfoot encounter at least I don't think it is. Honestly, I'm not sure what kind of encounter it was. All I know is that it happened to me. I've often wished someone could explain it, tell me what it was or what it meant. It happened on October 31, 2001, under a full blue moon, along one of the quietest stretches of the Blue Ridge Parkway. At the time, I was driving a 1970 Chevy Bel Air an old steel boat of a car and I had pulled into the James River overlook near Goff Mountain Road. It was close to midnight. The moon was so bright it almost felt like daytime. I shut the engine off and decided to stretch my legs. There's a small trail there that leads down toward a bench maybe a hundred yards from the parking area. I'd spent a lot of time in the woods so being out in the forest at night didn't bother me. I knew what normal nighttime woods felt like. And I also knew when something felt off. As I walked down the trail, the stillness felt unnatural. No breeze. No insects. No rustling. Nothing. I sat on the bench and looked through the bare branches while the moonlight spilled across the slope below. It was beautiful, but something about it felt wrong. Like I was being watched. Then I heard a Snap. A single limb breaking somewhere downslope, maybe fifty to a hundred yards away toward the Bellamy Creek drainage. At first I didn't think much of it deer snap branches all the time. Then it happened again. And again. What caught my attention wasn't just the sound it was the pattern. The breaks started coming from different directions. Not like one animal moving through the woods. I counted five, maybe ten distinct snaps, each spaced about four or five seconds apart. Then the timing changed. The snaps started coming faster… one every second or two… and they seemed to be moving in a circle around me. That was enough. Instinct kicked in, and I stood up and headed back to the car. When I got inside the car, I didn't start the engine right away. I just sat there with the keys in the ignition, ready to leave if I needed to. At first, nothing happened. Then something hit the hood. It sounded exactly like a Douglas fir cone hitting steel hard, solid, unmistakable. The problem was that there were no pine or fir trees there. Only deciduous trees, and by that time of year all their leaves had already fallen. There was nothing up there that could drop. Then another hit. Then they started falling faster like something was throwing them. They weren't rocks or dirt. Every impact sounded the same weight, the same size, the same hollow thunk of a heavy cone hitting metal. The hood, the roof, the trunk maybe even the sides of the car. But I couldn't see anything falling. Nothing bouncing off. Nothing rolling away. Just the sound. I looked up toward the treeline in front of me, expecting to see bare trunks and branches in the moonlight. Instead, I saw figures. At first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. The shapes looked like people standing among the trees. They weren't trees. They were tall figures six to seven feet high wearing what looked like long hoods or cloaks. Completely black. No faces. No hands. Just darkness beneath the hoods. Some stood still. Others seemed angled toward me. It was like they absorbed the moonlight instead of reflecting it. I turned to my left, toward the grassy median beside the car, and saw more shapes there. Maybe three to eight of them, lying flat on the ground like bodies. Each time I looked away and then looked back, they were closer. But they never moved while I was watching. No sound. No crawling. Just different positions every time my eyes shifted. Then I noticed something near the driver's side of the car. Three smaller figures, only five to ten feet away. These weren't tall like the ones near the trees. They were crouched or hunched close to the ground, almost like children playing. Under each hood there was a faint flicker like someone trying to light a cigarette lighter that never quite caught. Meanwhile the impacts on the car were coming faster and faster. At that point, instinct completely took over. I turned the key, threw the car into Drive, and sped out of the overlook as fast as I could. As I pulled away, those smaller figures were right beside my door. If the window had been open, I'm certain I could have reached out and touched them. They just watched. I drove for about five miles before finally pulling over. Nothing had followed me. When I got out and inspected the car, there wasn't a single dent. No scratches. No debris. Nothing at all that explained what I had heard hitting the car. I've looked at that location on maps many times since then. But I've never gone back in person. Not once. I haven't even driven that stretch of the Parkway again. There's one detail that still bothers me, though. When I later looked at the spot on Google Maps, the overlook where I had parked appeared to be on the wrong side of the road. I clearly remember pulling into it on the right side from the direction I was traveling. But according to the map, it should have been on the left. I've tried to make sense of that for years, and I still can't. For a long time, I never told anyone about this." Now, I'm telling you."

In this episode, Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel returns to share two chilling accounts of encounters with a massive, humanlike creature deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Both stories come from individuals who found themselves face-to-face with something they could neither explain nor forget.The first encounter comes from a man we'll call Ben, a doctor flying a Piper Super Cub through the remote country near Hell Bent Creek above the Yukon River with his ten-year-old son. After landing near a quiet pond to stretch their legs and eat lunch, Ben notices his son repeatedly staring across the water at what the boy believes is a man standing in the distance. At first Ben assumes it's a trick of the light or a distant hunter, but as they prepare to leave he finally sees it for himself. A large, dark figure rises upright near the pond and begins moving slowly along the shoreline.As Ben starts warming up the plane for departure, the creature suddenly appears much closer, squatting roughly forty-five feet from the wing and silently watching the boy. Realizing the situation may be dangerous, Ben readies a shotgun while getting the aircraft airborne.As they circle back for a final pass, he sees the figure return to the pond where his son had been standing, lowering its head as if sniffing the ground.The second account comes from a young woman named Shiloh, who was berry picking with her cousin outside a small unnamed village in rural Alaska. While gathering berries on the tundra, the girls notice a towering figure standing among the brush. Shiloh later described the creature as being nearly nine feet tall and strangely mesmerizing, as if it were somehow pulling her attention toward it. Her cousin sensed something was wrong and snapped her out of the strange trance-like state before they ran back to the village. Later that day several relatives armed themselves and followed the enormous tracks left behind.Not far from where the girls had been picking berries, they spotted the same towering figure swaying in the brush. When the men approached, the creature suddenly charged. Warning shots rang out, and the massive figure stumbled before dropping onto all fours and disappearing into the tundra. In October of 1955, a highway worker and experienced outdoorsman named William Roe climbed Mica Mountain in British Columbia on his own time, with no particular expectation of finding anything unusual. What he encountered near the summit that afternoon would stay with him for the rest of his life — and nearly two years later, he'd walk into a notary's office in Edmonton, Alberta, and swear a legal affidavit about it, making his account one of the first formally documented close-range Sasquatch encounters in North American history.This episode tells Roe's story as close to his own experience as the historical record allows. Drawing entirely from his sworn affidavit and the subsequent research of John Green, Ivan T. Sanderson, and others who documented the case carefully in the years that followed, we walk through the encounter from the first glimpse through the brush to the moment she disappeared back into the timber — including the moment Roe raised his rifle, looked through the sight, and made a decision he'd spend the rest of his life thinking about.Roe wasn't a man who sought attention.He was a trapper, a hunter, a working man who'd spent more time in serious wilderness than most people spend indoors, and who knew the difference between what belonged in a forest and what didn't. What he saw on Mica Mountain that October afternoon was a large, upright, bipedal creature — female, covered in dark silver-tipped brown hair, standing roughly six feet tall, with a face that he could only describe as more human-like than he'd expected or was prepared for. She was eating wild cherry leaves near an old abandoned cabin when he found her. She walked away on two feet when she was ready to go. Brian welcomes Tim from Macon County, North Carolina, whose interest in Bigfoot began in an unexpected way. Years ago, he and a friend decided to prank the friend's sons by creating fake tracks in the woods, a harmless hoax meant to stir up a little excitement. But not long after, the joke seemed to take on a life of its own.Beginning in 2008, Tim says unexplained activity started occurring on the property—events that made him question whether something real might be moving through those woods. What followed were a series of strange and unsettling incidents. Tim recalls a raccoon being violently killed while a deep roar and whistling sounds echoed through the area. He also describes rocks and sticks being thrown, piercing screams from the darkness, and repeated disturbances around the trails, deer stands, and feeders scattered throughout the property. Over time, these experiences escalated from mysterious noises to what Tim believes were direct encounters. One involved a creature he photographed alongside researcher Dwight Campbell. Another encounter occurred while Tim was bow hunting, when he says a large figure appeared within roughly twenty feet of him. In a separate experience in Cades Cove, he observed something during the daytime using thermal equipment. More recently, in 2022, Tim describes seeing a creature on the ground that crawled away from the area rather than standing upright. Tim also recounts a trip following the South Carolina Bigfoot Festival, when his group returned to a location where bluff-charge vocalizations had previously been reported. The area had already generated stories from other witnesses, including reports of glowing eyes and even claims of a dogman-like creature moving through the woods.Despite skepticism from some people in his life, Tim remains focused on documenting what he believes is genuine activity. One of the moments that left the strongest impression on him involved hearing what sounded like two creatures communicating back and forth, an experience that reinforced his belief that these beings possess intelligence and complex behavior.Today, Tim continues researching and sharing his experiences while encouraging others to approach the subject with curiosity and an open mind. In the fall of 1978, a thirty-one-year-old fur trapper named John flew his Piper Super Cub into a remote stretch of the Yukon Territory about a hundred and forty miles northeast of Dawson City to begin what he planned as a four-month trapping season. He had a solid cabin he'd built himself, a well-established trap line running forty-some miles through prime marten, lynx, beaver, and wolverine country, and enough experience in the northern bush to know that country about as well as any man alive.What he didn't have was any way of knowing that something else was already out there, and that it had already been watching him. Within days of his arrival John began finding enormous bipedal tracks pressed into the creek gravel and early snow, measuring over twenty inches long and more than eight inches wide at the heel, with a stride that a tall man at a full trot couldn't match. The tracks were only the beginning. Something started systematically clearing his traps, not randomly, but with a working knowledge of his entire line, springing sets from above with deliberate downward pressure and removing the catch without a trace. Then came the vocalizations, deep and structured sounds in the dark timber that had a quality John had no name for at the time, sounds that decades later would stop him cold when he heard the Sierra Sounds recordings made by Ron Morehead and Al Berry in the Sierra Nevada. That same organized, back-and-forth exchange.That same sense of language underneath something no human throat is built to produce.Then the rocks started. And then one of them put John face-down in the snow with a three-inch gash in the side of his head that he had to stitch himself, alone, a hundred and forty miles from the nearest town.John stayed because his family needed what that trap line could produce. He stayed through the night visits, through the sound of something breathing against his door in the dark, through the feeling of large hands running slowly along his log walls. He stayed until the night something hit his cabin with enough force to crack the chinking and move a ten-inch spruce log in its notch.He went outside with his Marlin 45/70 rifle and he shot it, and he followed the blood trail the next morning until the ground went too hard to hold sign. And when he came back from that blood trail he found both tundra tires on his Super Cub torn apart by hand.That's when he called his friend Byron. What happened the night Byron arrived is the kind of account that's hard to sit with, a coordinated assault on that cabin from multiple directions that lasted for hours, with John and Byron shooting through the walls and ceiling while something worked at the logs from outside trying to find a way in. They made it to morning. They packed their gear. They flew out and John never went back.He sold the cabin, went to work on a crab boat in the Bering Sea, and spent eleven years deciding that thirty-foot seas and a crab pot winch were considerably safer than whatever was in that Yukon timber. He's probably right.John listens to this show and to my other podcast Sasquatch Odyssey, and he says that hearing Fred from Alaska talk about the temperament of these animals in the northern bush is the closest he's come to feeling like someone else understands what he encountered. He wants people to know that what's out there in the deep country doesn't match the friendly-giant narrative, and he wants them to be careful. Bigfoot and Mountain MenWhile listening to a Bigfoot podcast on the porch, the narrator's 94-year-old great-granddad Elijah shared a secret from his youth. As a teen in early-1900s Tennessee, Elijah and his two best friends were close to a hermit called Crazy Joe, who taught them wilderness skills. When Joe vanished, his shack was wrecked; weeks later he returned wealthy, clean-shaven, and driving fine horses. He revealed he had once struck gold in a hidden Idaho valley guarded by giant, hairy “Ancient Ones.” Joe invited the boys west. They reached the remote Valley of the Ancients, lived with a Shoshone friend called Long Tooth, and learned the creatures' rules: leave food on a sacred rock and never chase them.
