Send us a text2025 has been a year of relentless waves — uncertainty, upheaval, and unexpected turns. In this episode, co-hosts Belinda Liu and Omar Brownson are joined again by Dr. Paul Wang to explore how Daoist seasonal wisdom can guide us through noisy, volatile times.Together, they reflect on the transition into the metal season in Chinese cosmology, represented by autumn — a time of discernment, boundaries, and filtering out noise so we can hear the deeper signal of what truly matters. From the symbolism of sound and silence to the lessons of animals, oceans, and plants, the conversation reveals how remembrance, grace, and inner stillness help us navigate change. The Gratitude Blooming card they draw — the Poppy (Remembrance) — invites us to pause, honor what we want to sustain, and release what no longer serves.

Our Summer 2025 series, Beside Still Waters, focuses on the places where creativity brings life into a world fatigued by brokenness and division. From jazz to Jane Austen and in between, this season we'll focus on the ways literature and the arts can refresh and challenge our inner lives—and connect us with the Creator of the good, the true, and the beautiful. Our guest this episode is the poet Christian Wiman, a master of the written – and spoken – word. After long wandering, he returned to the Christian faith in which he'd been raised, in part because of a terminal cancer diagnosis – one he has now long outlived. Both before and after his diagnosis, and his return to faith, his experience of despair has fueled his powerful poetry. In grappling with it, Christian uses words in ways that are a tonic against despair.“I deal with despair because…I don't know how not to, and it would be an evasion not to. And I think if you don't feel it, then you're not paying attention.”This podcast is drawn from an online conversation from 2024. We hope this conversation will resonate with you as you explore the good, the true, and the beautiful in your own corner of creation. If it does, please consider joining the Trinity Forum community as a member, at ttf.org. Chapters 1-5 of Wisdom makes the argument that the two ways presented before each of us—the way of righteousness versus the way of unrighteousness—have eternal consequences, either spiritual death or immortality in God. No other book in the Old Testament develops the theology of life after death than does Wisdom. Its message is picked up and developed often in the New Testament teachings of Jesus and St. Paul. Enjoy this sample from Lesson 2, "Seek Immortality (Chs. 1-5)" from Dr. Nick's four-part course, "The Wisdom of Solomon: Love Righteousness." Do you really know?
Can jellyfish offer the key to immortality?

Do you really know?

Throughout history people have been keen to find the answer to immortality. It's now commonly accepted that eternal life is not possible. Yet, somewhere deep in the ocean, a tiny fingernail-sized creature nicknamed the “immortal jellyfish” might be able to cast new light on the human aging process. A new study published in August 2022 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences shows the results from a team of researchers who have mapped the jellyfish's genetic code to find the secret to its immortality. They found that the immortal jellyfish has twice more copies of genes associated with DNA repair and protection than a regular jellyfish. They can produce greater amounts of protective and restorative proteins. Why is the "immortal jellyfish" immortal? Will humans be able to regenerate like jellyfish? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! LESSON 199I Am Not A Body, I Am Free.Freedom must be impossible as long as you perceive a body as yourself. The body is a limit. Who would seek for freedom in a body looks for it where it can not be found. The mind can be made free when it no longer sees itself as in a body, firmly tied to it and sheltered by its presence. If this were the truth, the mind were vulnerable indeed! The mind that serves the Holy Spirit is unlimited forever, in all ways, beyond the laws of time and space, unbound by any preconceptions, and with strength and power to do whatever it is asked. Attack thoughts cannot enter such a mind, because it has been given to the Source of love, and fear can never enter in a mind that has attached itself to love. It rests in God. And who can be afraid who lives in Innocence, and only loves? It is essential for your progress in this course that you accept today's idea, and hold it very dear. Be not concerned that to the ego it is quite insane. The ego holds the body dear because it dwells in it, and lives united with the home that it has made. It is a part of the illusion that has sheltered it from being found illusory itself. Here does it hide, and here it can be seen as what it is. Declare your innocence and you are free. The body disappears, because you have no need of it except the need the Holy Spirit sees. For this, the body will appear as useful form for what the mind must do. It thus becomes a vehicle which helps forgiveness be extended to the all-inclusive goal that it must reach, according to God's plan.Cherish today's idea, and practice it today and every day. Make it a part of every practice period you take. There is no thought that will not gain thereby in power to help the world, and none which will not gain in added gifts to you as well. We sound the call of freedom round the world with this idea. And would you be exempt from the acceptance of the gifts you give? The Holy Spirit is the home of minds that seek for freedom. In Him they have found what they have sought. The body's purpose now is unambiguous. And it becomes perfect in the ability to serve an undivided goal. In conflict-free and unequivocal response to mind with but the thought of freedom as its goal, the body serves, and serves its purpose well. Without the power to enslave, it is a worthy servant of the freedom which the mind within the Holy Spirit seeks.Be free today. And carry freedom as your gift to those who still believe they are enslaved within a body. Be you free, so that the Holy Spirit can make use of your escape from bondage, to set free the many who perceive themselves as bound and helpless and afraid. Let love replace their fears through you. Accept salvation now, and give your mind to Him Who calls to you to make this gift to Him. For He would give you perfect freedom, perfect joy, and hope that finds its full accomplishment in God.You are God's Son. In immortality you live forever. Would you not return your mind to this? Then practice well the thought the Holy Spirit gives you for today. Your brothers stand released with you in it; the world is blessed along with you, God's Son will weep no more, and Heaven offers thanks for the increase of joy your practice brings even to it. And God Himself extends His Love and happiness each time you say:I am not a body. I am free.I hear the Voice That God has given me,And it is only This my mind obeys.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

This week, we start with Oasis and end in Silicon Valley, via Tír na nÓg. We're talking about the economics of not dying, and how tech billionaires are pouring billions into that dream. From Oasis belting Live Forever to Irish mythology's take on eternal youth, we ask: why are we so obsessed with dodging death? We explore the surreal story of Brian Johnson, the tech bro spending $2 million a year trying to reverse ageing. Vegan diet, 100 supplements a day, teenage blood transfusions… all in an effort to achieve his goal of slowing his biological clock by 7.5 months every year. Meanwhile, he's founded a Don't Die movement with Discord channels, Blueprint protocols, and longevity summits. We dig into the money behind it all: the anti-ageing industry is already worth $70 billion and is projected to hit $140 billion by 2034. Google's Calico Labs, Bezos's $3 billion bet on Altos Labs, and a biotech unicorn called Cambrian Bio (valued at $1.8 billion) are all racing to crack the longevity code. What kind of world are we building? Is this the new Tír na nÓg, a fantasy only for the rich? We imagine a world where ageing is optional… but only if you can afford it. Hosted on Acast. How should we live faithfully within a world created to be good and beautiful, and yet everywhere marred by ugliness and injustice? Jazz vocalist and composer Ruth Naomi Floyd will guide us in bringing together music, creativity, and justice, and help us think about our roles in repairing, re-envisioning, and creating new places of beauty and flourishing:We know that art shapes and reshapes us and that it's there in the cross of Jesus, I believe, where beauty and violence collided and beauty won. And so that act of loving someone…purposely trying to love someone, especially those that seem or are viewed or deemed unlovable, is…directly connected and intrinsically connected to our art making. We hope you are encouraged by Ruth's artistic journey, as she helps us to find beauty in the midst of suffering, and to express love through creativity. This podcast is an edited version of an online conversation recorded in 2021. What if death isn't inevitable but a solvable problem? This episode explores how biohacking is reshaping our understanding of mortality, legacy, and the limits of human performance. You'll learn why some of today's top thinkers are treating longevity as both a science and a spiritual movement, and how this shift affects your brain, your mitochondria, and your entire approach to life. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with philosopher and best-selling author Dr. Stephen Cave, Director of the Institute for Technology and Humanity at the University of Cambridge. With decades of expertise studying death, immortality, and ethics, Dr. Cave brings a rare depth of insight into how our desire to live longer intersects with neuroplasticity, supplements, and even nootropics. Together, they unpack the four universal immortality narratives, the dangers of mind uploading, and why AI might become humanity's next god or destroyer. You'll discover how legacy, ego, functional medicine, and even fasting and ketosis play into our fear of death. The conversation also dives into the deeper psychological and societal consequences of radical life extension, and what happens when biohacking crosses into belief. This episode is a must-listen for anyone serious about hacking longevity, brain optimization, metabolism, and building a future where living to 180 isn't science fiction. You'll also hear surprising thoughts on Danger Coffee, RFK, sleep optimization, and how to approach mortality using the Smarter Not Harder mindset. You'll Learn: • Why all technology is a form of life extension • How ego and boredom threaten longevity more than disease • The real dangers of digital immortality and uploading consciousness • Why procrastination could be the enemy of eternal life • How to balance transhumanist tech with human values • The surprising connection between cold therapy, supplements, and meaning Dave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. We're back to our regularly-scheduled Disintegrator programming! We've been hard at work on our book (buy it, wtf!) but have a number of killer episodes queued up for release.Émile P. Torres is a philosopher of the end times. You'll most likely associate their name (and that of collaborator Timnit Gebru) with developing the acronym TESCREAL, a grab-bag of ideologies that undergird the romance between venture capital and Silicon Valley. We strongly recommend their podcast Dystopia Now! (w/ Kate Willett) and their newest book Human Extinction: A History of the Science and Ethics of Annihilation. The T in TESCREAL is 'transhumanism,' a frequent topic of the pod, which tends to mean an application of technology to human bodies and in such a way that allows humans to transcend human limitations (e.g. speed, efficiency, senses, mortality). From there, the rest of the ideologies follow from a relationship between the human and its 'rationalized' extensibility through technology: E (extropianism), S (singularitarianism), C (cosmism), R (rationalism), EA (effective altriusim), and L (longtermism). Here's a gentle and clean explainer of all of the above. In this episode, we talk extensively about some elements that aren't actively represented in TESCREAL but sit beneath it: accelerationism, extinction-neutrality, and left-adjacent positions with respect to both (e.g. l/acc, xenofeminism, ahumanism -- this episode might pair really nicely with our interview with Patricia MacCormack for this very reason).

Grab your consent forms (but don't sign them yet) and your government-issued fetal monitoring bracelet, because today we're getting a broader understanding of what happens when people aren't treated like people but like data, vessels, and experiments. The body keeps the score- even when it's for medical horror stories. From Adriana Smith, kept alive against her will to serve as a human incubator under Georgia's abortion laws, to Henrietta Lacks, whose cells were stolen, immortalized, and monetized without her knowledge or family's consent, this episode unpacks the long, horrifying legacy of unethical medical research in America. We'll walk through the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, the Holmesburg Prison experiments, the HIV-tainted blood scandal that infected kids like Ryan White, while the government spent more money on the Tylenol murders than AIDS research. And this isn't ancient history, it's happening today- not just with Adriana Smith, or Terri Schiavo as a human prop before her but with forced sterilizations, CRISPR babies, and what happens when “the greater good” doesn't include you. This isn't an anti-science episode. I'm pro-science, but not when the most marganilzed among us have to die for it. And in a world where women, people of color, and the poor are still being used, sometimes even after death- it's more important than ever to ask: Who gets to be a patient? “Those moments of connection when you can have them with people who seem so different from you on the outside, I really do think that it braids a level of connectiveness and empathy, and it is much harder to harden your heart.” — Gayle FormanWhat does it mean to rise to the occasion, not once, but over and over again? Sometimes it means reckoning with grief. Other times it means stumbling forward, messing up, and trying again. And sometimes it means simply showing up, imperfect, but still trying to be better.Gayle Forman is the bestselling author of If I Stay, Frankie & Bug, Not Nothing, Afterlife and more. Whether it's Mia in If I Stay, Alex in Not Nothing, or Amber in Afterlife, her characters often walk a jagged path toward healing, falling short, trying again, and inching closer to the people they hope to become. In this episode, Gayle talks about growing up as a self-described “odd duck,” the Ramona books that shaped her childhood and parenting, and the formative years she spent traveling solo. She opens up about why she is so drawn to flawed characters and how fiction became a way to survive grief and stay connected to the people she has lost.***For her reading challenge, Flawed, Gayle is going to bat for the prickly, messy, not-here-to-be-liked protagonists. She points out that kids are used to reading about heroes, but it can be just as powerful, maybe even more so, to read about characters who fall short and grow anyway. Peruse selected titles and Gayle's full reading challenge for free at thereadingculturepod.com/gayle-forman.This week's Beanstack Featured Librarian is Lori Shallio, media specialist at Heritage Intermediate School in Middlebury, Indiana. The Author Events Series presents Mike Sielski  | Magic in the Air REGISTER In Conversation with Buzz Bissinger The evolution of basketball, and much of the social and cultural change in America, can be traced through one powerful act on the court: the slam dunk. The dunk's history is the story of a sport and a country changed by the most dominant act in basketball, and it makes Magic in the Air a rollicking and insightful piece of narrative history and a surefire classic of sports literature. When basketball was the province of white men, the dunk acted as a revolutionary agent, a tool for players like Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell to transform the sport into a Black man's game. The dunk has since been an expression of Black culture amid the righteous upheaval of the civil-rights movement, of the threat that Black people were considered to be to the establishment. It was banned from college basketball for nearly a decade--an attempt to squash the individual expression and athleticism that characterized the sport in America's cities and on its playgrounds. The dunk nevertheless bubbled up to basketball's highest levels. From Julius Erving to Michael Jordan to the high flyers of the 21st century, the dunk has been a key mechanism for growing the NBA into a global goliath. Drawing on deep reporting and dozens of interviews with players, coaches, and other hoops experts, Magic in the Air brings to life the tale of the dunk while balancing sharp socio-racial history and commentary with a romp through American sports and culture. There's never been a basketball book quite like it. MIKE SIELSKI is a columnist for The Philadelphia Inquirer and the author of four books. The Associated Press Sports Editors voted him the country's top sports columnist in 2015, and his previous book, The Rise: Kobe Bryant and the Pursuit of Immortality, was published in 2022. Sielski lives in Bucks County, Pa., with his wife and two sons. Buzz Bissinger is among the nation's most honored and distinguished writers. A native of New York City, Buzz is the winner of the Pulitzer Prize, the Livingston Award, the American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award and the National Headliners Award, among others. He also was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. He is the author of the highly acclaimed nonfiction books: Friday Night Lights, A Prayer for the City, Three Nights in August, Shooting Stars and Father's Day.
