And together with Bruce, uh, we have written, you hear this all the time, probably three dozen cookbooks. I don't know a lot, including the Instant Pot Bible and the Essential Air Fryer Cookbook, uh, book written so that every single recipe is sized out. Either appliance in the Instant Pot Bible, every recipe is sized out for every size of Instant Pot. And in the Essential Air Fryer Cookbook, every recipe is sized out for every size of air fryer on the,[00:00:39] Bruce: we love air fryers, we love air fryers,[00:00:42] Mark: uh, we love all these appliance gadgets apparently, but we're not talking about any of that really.Mm-hmm. . We got our one minute cooking dip. We have a great interview coming up and we're gonna talk about what's making us happy in. Food this week. So let's get started.[00:01:09] Bruce: Dry January. Well, the concept originated in the UK in 2013 and it's, [00:01:14] Mark: how couldn't the people who invented gin invent dry January? That doesn't make any sick. [00:01:19] Bruce: Yeah, these are all the people that invented warm beer.[00:01:21] Mark: So, you know, that's fighting words with the Danes and the regions and who invented gin Them are fighting words. Okay. [00:01:28] Bruce: But the, but they did invent warm beer and so that's disgust. So a nonprofit in the,[00:01:33] Mark: I'm gonna tell you that that's fighting words with the Germans, but go on , [00:01:37] Bruce: a nonprofit in the UK called Alcohol Change UK started the concept of dry January in 2013 with a goal of raising money. And I'm not sure how dry January and raising money happened, but that was a, you probably had to sign into something, but they did it to raise money for alcohol abuse awareness and treatment of. Very good cause. [00:01:59] Mark: Yeah. And a lot of people choose to take part in Dry in January as way to simply drink less or reset for a month or two after all the holidays. And let me tell you, oh, I know the holidays, [00:02:07] Bruce: man. [00:02:07] Mark: Oh man. Let me tell you that I drank like a fish over the holidays with Bruce's family and my family. I mean, Bruce says that one point that. Uh, my brother-in-law and I, Bruce's sister's husband and I, at one point we were just like two drunk old men in a bar sitting at a table saying, oh, I have another glass. [00:02:23] Bruce: You were was, and then we came home for New Year's Eve and we drank. We were with friends and all of us drank a case of champagne, which was really

Or did you want to talk about rock climbing? (kind of to self) I can see it now, scaling the face of El Capitan! No ropes, just some powder, and my muscular fingers...    Bruce: No, Mr. Henry! Not that kind of scale, a music scale   Bill: Oh, right, a music scale   Bruce: That’s right. A music scale is kind of like going up or down a set of stairs. It’s a set of notes in a particular order and it has a special sound. I remember when I was younger, as I would go up a set of stairs, I would skip some steps and take some, one at a time. That’s exactly how a music scale works.  Bill: Music scales are awesome! Bruce: Listen to this scale. Does it sound happy or sad?  Bill: Definitely happy! That’s a major scale. Bruce: How about this one?  Bill: That one makes me feel sad (sniff, sniff). It’s a minor scale. Bruce: Now here’s a scale that has a special “feeling down” sound.  Bill: That IS different. It’s kind of sad, but, at the same time, it kind of makes me feel better.  Bruce: Exactly. That’s what makes a blues scale special. That’s the beauty of scales in music. If a composer wants the music to have a certain feel, they will choose the scale that best fits that feeling.  Bill: So there you have it. Music has a very important foundation:   Bill/Bruce: Scales!   Thank you so much for listening. We hope you are enjoying the show so far. On to the show!   And now, The Main Subject of the Day:    Bill: Hey, Mr. Fite! How ya... doing. Wow, you look sad.   Bruce: Hey Mr. Henry. I am sad because it’s raining and I was hoping to go outside and play. I’m feeling blue...   Bill: Blue? Maybe you should stop holding your breath.    Bruce: No, not the color blue, I’m FEELING blue. When we say we’re feeling blue, it means we feel sad or bummed out about something.    Bill: Oh right.    Bruce: My playtime got rained-out so you could say I’ve got the rained-out blues.   Mr. Hairy Legs: Hey Mr. Henry, hey Mr. Fite! How ya doing?   Bill: Oh, I’m fine, but Mr. Fite has the blues.   Mr. Hairy Legs: Oh, the flu! Having the flu is NO fun, I had it once.   Bill: No, he is BLUE!   Mr. Hairy Legs: Oh, blue. Well, he looks more pale and pasty than he does blue, but, I’ll take your word for it. My eyes aren’t really the best these days.   Bruce: Mr. Hairy Legs, when we say we are blue or have the blues, we mean that we feel sad or bummed out. All of this rain has ruined my plans to play outside today.    Bill: Well, you got your bath and you’re all dressed so why don’t you have something to eat? I could cook us up some eggs and toast. Mr. Hairy Legs: I don’t like the legs of the roast, that’s always the toughest part to chew.   Bruce: No, he said EGGS and TOAST! Mr. Hairy Legs: Oh, that sounds delicious! Bill: Okay eggs and toast it is! (Maybe some cooking noises and then eating noises) Bruce: Phew! I feel better having eaten something. Thanks for making breakfast, Mr. Henry.  Bill: No problem, Mr. Fite. Hey, what’s the weather looking like out there? Bruce: Let’s see here...oh no! Now it’s sleeting outside Mr. Hairy Legs: Who’s sleeping outside? This is NOT good camping weather. Bruce: No, Mr. Hairy Legs, the rain has turned into sleet! Mr. Hairy Legs: Oh... Bill: Hey, Mr. Fite. I just found this cookbook on your shelf. “Teach Your Hamster How to Cook.” That sounds like fun! Bruce: Oh, yeah! That’s my favorite book. It only takes 15 minutes! Mr. Hairy Legs: Well, I don’t think hamster tastes very good. It must be an acquired taste.  Bruce: Umm… never mind Mr. Hairy Legs… Bill: How ‘bout we watch some TV? Bruce: Great idea! Hey, my favorite show is on. It’s about a race car and a cool pink flamingo.  Mr. Hairy Legs: Oh, yeah! Ringo was my favorite Beatle too, Mr. Fite. Bill/Bruce: Oh boy... Bruce: Hey, guys! Look! The sleet has turned into… SNOW!!! Mr. Hairy Legs: Let’s go!! Bruce: No, Mr. Hairy Legs. I said snow.  Mr. Hairy Legs: I know you said snow. Whadya think I’m hard of hearing or something? Bruce: Oh, sorry Mr. Hairy Legs. Let me find my favorite pair of shoes. My big red snow boots! Bill: Yeah, I’ll go get my snow boots too! Hey Mr Fite, you don’t look sad anymore. Your big red boots helped you lose your rained-out blues! Everyone: Woo Hoo! Let’s go! Bill: One hour later…(coming back inside from playing in the snow) Bruce: Hey guys, while we were out playing in the snow, I had a great idea for a blues song! I’ll grab my guitar and practice the blues scale to get ready for my solo. Mr. Henry, you can play the bass, it’s over there.  Bill: Oh cool! Bruce: And Mr. Hairy Legs, you can hop on the drums over there.  Mr. Hairy Legs: I chomp with my gums all the time. How about I play the drums? Bruce: Uhhh… yeah… uhh great idea Mr. Hairy Legs.   Okay fellas, here we go! The Music Podcast for Kids is brought to you by brucefite.com. I don't think you can really give your ears a test Mr. Henry. I mean how do your ears hold a pencil without bleeding? Oh no Mr. Fite, when I say test your ears I mean listening to something and trying to figure it out through hearing it. Oh right of course. Time to play the music podcast for kids super duper music listening challenge. A little bit long of a title? We’ll have to work it out. Okay onto the challenge.   In today’s episode, we learned about scales. And we got to listen to three different types of scales. The major scale, which sounds happy. The minor scale which sounds kind of sad. And the blues scale which is kind of a mix between the two. So, I’m going to play one of these scales and I want to see if you can guess which one it is. Are you ready? Here is number one. Is that scale major (happy), minor (sad), or the blues scale? Which one do you think it was? Here is number two. Is that scale major (happy), minor (sad), or the blues scale? Which one do you think it was? Here is number three. Is that scale major (happy), minor (sad), or the blues scale? Which one do you think it was?   How did you do? Hopefully, you nailed it. You can go to the show notes to check your answers. Awesome!   Time to wrap it up, folks! Whitetail Rendezvous

Bruce: Hey, folks, welcome back to Whitetail Rendezvous, the special edition with Rackology. We’re heading up to Eric and Jason’s shop up there in Loup City, Nebraska and this is the final segment of food plots. And we’re going to talk about planting 365, and that kind of encompasses everything we talked about with these guys this week. And, you know, we started off with the land management and looking at the land, getting hard eyes on it, you know, fresh set of glasses, however you want to call it, and then figuring out where we’re going to do things. And then we talked about the food plots and seed, what they are, what they’re not, and what they can’t do now. You know, we’re going to wrap it all up into a 365-day planting and growing session, if you will. So, guys, let’s bring forth some knowledge and share. And in the break we just had we just talked about does are stressed. And I threw in my two cents. You know, the doe is bred in November, November 10th, she goes through December, January, February, March. Then she’s, you know, sometime in the springtime she’s going to, you know, have the fawn. And the better you can help them carry that fawn, the better deer herd you have. And that’s what this is all about, is helping deer become healthy deer, liking your place to live on, and living there 365. So, guys, take it away. Eric: Right. Well, you hit it right on the head. I mean the first key in planting a year-round program, whether it be feeding or food plots, when we talked about the land management, we kind of go year over year. We don’t just do this year and we’re done and we’ll see you next year and we’ll just start a new game plan. Knowing the life cycle of what you’re hunting or what you want out there is very important. I mean Jason has taught me so much being, I mean, with his knowledge of not only biology but and specific with deer herd development and deer herd health. I’ve learned, I mean, by just soaking in like a sponge next to him hearing him talk to people and just asking questions. And knowing…of anybody, knowing…and he knows really well that life cycle of a doe, the life cycle of a buck, and where you’re going to be able to take the stress off of those animals. And like we were talking before, if there’s more of a visual key to understand and see, you know, the stresses that these wild animals go through on a given year. Because every year is not the same, on a dry year versus a wet year versus a cold winter year where you’ve got 20 snowfalls and 40 inches of snow. Those deer are out there, they don’t get to go inside and relax and refresh and regroup for the next day like we do. But knowing that life cycle of the animal is huge when it comes to planting 365 year-round stuff. And, you know, a lot of people will see deer out there and not know how much stress that they’ve got on them and they might just say, “Oh, they’re eating out there, look at all of them out there. They’re just walking around and enjoying themselves and they’re fine. You know, I don’t need to do anything.” Well, looking at trail camera pictures from closer than 50 to 100 yards you’re going to start picking up, like Jason just showed me, some things to key in on on, “Okay, is that doe, you know, is she”… I mean she’s got… You know, what we don’t know about the deer, I mean there’s a lot of times they have twins and triplets and that’s a lot of stress and vitamin and mineral and protein that that doe has got to do to get to that fawn, whether it be a fawn that’s a doe or a fawn that’s a buck. And if you want them bucks to develop and to be their genetic potential, they need to hit the ground running and they need to be efficient. So a lot of times with food plots, the ones you have on your land and water,
