Spider-Man: BND trailer, Toy Story Rules at the Box Office, Blumhouse secures Curry Barker's Next Film

Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Everyone's forgotten Peter Parker…or have they? Sony gave us a second full trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the interwebs are buzzing about it. We get longer looks at Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/Punisher in the film, as well as allusions to the big bad of the movie - though Tom Holland recently said on the press tour that the antagonist has not been figured out yet by fans. Films continue to top each other's openings at the box office this year, with Toy Story 5 having the current title of best opening of the year to the tune of $160 million domestically over the Father's Day weekend. This was also the all-time best opening for the 30-year-old franchise. Disclosure Day took second place this weekend, though Toy Story practically beat its global take in the states alone, and Obsession and Backrooms continue their strong streaks coming in at third and fourth respectively.Universal and Blumhouse's Atomic Monster are jumping on the Curry Barker bandwagon having acquired the young director's third film in a reported eight figure deal. While Universal has been backing Barker, both Obsession and his upcoming film Anything But Ghosts are coming from Focus Features. Blumhouse has produced those same films, but this new move puts the horror powerhouse in a stronger position for film development. To tag onto the box office talk and remind you, Obsession was made for $750,000 and has now made more than $300 million worldwide - making it a tantalizing prospect for Blumhouse.Netflix has opted not to proceed with a second season of The Boroughs, a sci-fi TV series executive produced by Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers. The series debuted its first season last month. Universal and Imagine Entertainment are developing a sequel to 2000's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, with Jim Carrey in talks to reprise his role as the classic Dr. Seuss character the Grinch and Ron Howard returning to direct. Manny Jacinto, Emily Mortimer, and Thomasin McKenzie have joined the Season 3 cast of Prime Video's Fallout in recurring roles. In a new interview with Collider, Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri revealed that Star Wars creator George Lucas was cast in a small voice part in the upcoming Minions and Monsters because Lucas is a longtime fan of the Despicable Me franchise. Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley is reteaming with Keanu Reeves for a live-action hybrid Lego movie that Cooley will direct and Reeves will star in according to Deadline. Netflix has won the rights to develop Alix E. Harrow's best selling novel The Everlasting and will enter production on a series adaptation immediately according to Variety. The Everlasting is a time loop fantasy novel and was one of the best selling books of last year.Universal Pictures has announced that the next Illumination animated film will be Not Alone, an alien movie starring Timothée Chalamet & Selena Gomez which will release in April of next year. Dylan Clark's reboot of The Blair Witch Project for Lionsgate has landed a release date of September 24, 2027.Legendary has announced that a live action Magic School Bus movie is officially in the works with Elizabeth Banks set to play Ms. Frizzle. Detective Pikachu and Goosebumps director Rob Letterman will helm the feature.

Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: December 06, 2021Weird Darkness moves through four shades of the unexplained in this episode: the unseen voices and strangers that talk people out of crimes and catastrophes, the demon that lived under two sisters' bed in Texas, the 1928 witch-killing that gave a Pennsylvania hollow its name, and the still-contested death of Marilyn Monroe. It opens with a run of first-person accounts pulled from Reddit, each describing the moment something unseen stepped in to stop a crime or a catastrophe. A burglar hiding in the closet of an elderly woman's house watches a ghostly old man pat a departing paramedic on the back, then feels breath on the neck and a voice ordering the intruder out. Middle-schoolers creeping through their darkened school are warned off by a voice none of them claims, and they avoid a library that proved to be wired with a silent alarm and motion detectors. In California, a fourteen-year-old abandons a car-theft job a mile from the pickup, spooked by a rising sense of dread, and later learns the vehicle was bait in a police sting that swept up everyone else sent after it. A pickpocket lifts a wallet clean off a stranger, only for the man — blind, sunglasses raised — to calmly ask for it back. Threaded among them are a blown tire that derails a despairing teenager's suicide plan, church doors that lock the instant two thieves reach for them, and a Hobby Lobby shopper whose five stolen pieces of balsa wood seem to trail straight to a table saw and a flesh-eating MRSA infection. From there the episode turns to a listener named Atreada, who shared a room and a bed with her older sister in SunRay, Texas. For a week the bed shook hard enough to slam against the wall and wake the whole house, blamed each night on two children supposedly roughhousing. On the fourth night a hand rose from the gap between bed and wall as an evil laugh filled the room, and on the last night the sisters aimed a flashlight and saw the thing climb out and bolt — an old man in rags, barefoot, with glowing eyes, talon-like fingers, broken teeth, ears jutting at odd angles, and thin transparent strands hanging from an otherwise bald, corpse-like head.Next comes the true story behind Spring Valley County Park in York County, Pennsylvania, a place once called Hex Hollow. In 1928 a Powwow folk-magic practitioner named John Blymire became convinced he was cursed, and a witch called Nellie Noll — the Marietta River Witch — named Nelson Rehmeyer as the source. To break the hex, Blymire needed a lock of Rehmeyer's hair and his copy of The Long Lost Friend, an 1820 spellbook by John George Hohman. On November 26, 1928, Blymire and two accomplices, John Curry and Wilbert Hess, beat Rehmeyer to death in his home and tried to burn it down; the house refused to burn, which locals took as proof of his power. Blymire and Curry drew life sentences and Hess ten to twenty years, and the surviving hex house opened as a museum in 2007 — its story helping to inspire horror novelist Brian Keene and Shane Free's 2015 documentary on the killing. The episode closes with the death of Marilyn Monroe, found nude and lifeless in her Brentwood home in the early hours of August 5, 1962, a telephone in her hand and empty pill bottles on the nightstand. The official verdict was probable suicide by barbiturate overdose, but Sergeant Jack Clemmons, the first officer on the scene, found no glass or water for swallowing some sixty pills, no vomit, and housekeeper Eunice Murray running laundry while the body lay cooling. Thomas Noguchi's autopsy turned up lethal levels of Nembutal and chloral hydrate in her blood and liver, yet not a trace in her stomach. Witnesses placed Attorney General Robert Kennedy at the house that day and again near 10 p.m., tied to rumors of a red diary detailing her affairs with Robert and President John F. Kennedy and referencing a plot against Castro. A competing account, advanced years later by a Court TV investigation, holds that her psychiatrist Ralph Greenson gave her a chloral hydrate enema to wean her off Nembutal, unaware that her internist Hyman Engelberg was still prescribing it, and that the fatal drug interaction — not the Kennedys, and not her own hand — is what killed her.

Lionel Messi has been doing it his entire career against giants twice his size. Steph Curry changed an entire sport despite being told he was too small to matter. And now Upton Stout is heading into year two with the 49ers looking to prove the same thing on a defense built around speed, instincts, and heart over height. Apple's stance still unknown. RSS.com test (Alberto): moving the DOWNLOAD threshold 60s to 30s changed totals by ~1% — negligible. So 30s for both plays and downloads is just simpler. The HLS gotcha: playing 10s of an HLS video podcast still downloads ~60-72s, so server logs can't tell real play — only player-side instrumentation (Spotify, future Apple) can. James: it's all too "cloak and dagger." Watch July: AMP's implementation doc is due July and the group is light on technical people — needs to be real technical work, "not a sales press release." Understanding podcast stats (PodNews) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 03 - BEYOND CPM — INDIE + MISSION-DRIVEN ECONOMICS Losh Moodaley ("Beyond CPM"): the indie middle class (5k-25k downloads = only ~1-1.5% of all podcasts) can't survive on CPMs. Roadmap: audience-as-economy, sell exclusivity not inventory, scale outcomes not audiences, "owners of trust, not renters of attention." Pure V4V-adjacent framing — Sam Sethi tied it straight to TrueFans activity-based value (a share or comment is value, not just dollars) and "creator portals." Easy on-ramp to your worldview. Vox Topica (Richard Fall): full-stack agency for nonprofits/mission-driven orgs — speaks engagement/reach/"depth of message," not downloads. Nonprofits resist AI voices (authenticity) but use AI for scripts/cleanup/show notes; now recommends video to ALL clients. In this week's episode I am speaking with Adam Crymble and Rachel Rich about a really exciting piece of research looking at the complexities of feeding the households of King George III and his eldest son George who was Prince Regent whilst George III suffered from his “madness”, and eventually succeeded him as George IV. The focus of the research is the ledgers that still exist, listing the ingredients ordered, foods that were prepared and the people who ate them. Over 40,000 dishes were counted. They have analysed the ledgers from two royal palaces – George III's Kew Palace and the Prince Regent's Carlton House – with two other food historians Sarah Fox and Lisa Smith, and assimilated them to produce a book called The King's Dinner: Family, nation, and identity on the British table, 1760-1820, which was published by UCL Press on 11 June 2026. The book is available from wherever you buy your books, but it is also available open access as a free PDF. So is the data they used in their analysis. We talk about the differing characters of the two Georges and how these were expressed in the foods they ate, Georgian food identity, the concept of oeconomy, the exotic food cultures NOT appearing on royal dinner tables, French cuisine and famous French chef Careme's tenure in the Prince Regent's kitchens, as well as their fruit and veg suppliers, one of whom was called Savage Bear, amongst many other thingsThose listening to the secret podcast get some bonus material where we discuss the upper servant's fancy foods, the huge amounts of meat consumed, and the politics of wine. The King's Dinner: Family, nation, and identity on the British table, 1760-1820(open access)3000 dishes on a Georgian tableAdam's bio on the UCL websiteFollow Adam on social media: @adamcrymble.bsky.social (Bluesky); @dradamcrymble (Insta)Rachel's bio on Leeds Beckett University websiteFollow Rachel Rich on social media: @drrachelrich (Insta)Season 10 of the podcast is sponsored by Netherton Foundry, makers of high-quality kitchen and outdoor cookware. In this episode of 5 O'Clock Apron Podcast, Claire is on home turf, in Bristol and walks to Dee Ryding's house. Dee is an undertaker and owns the funeral parlour Divine Ceremony. Dee calls herself an undertaker and champions the phrase “Lovers in Life – Helpers in Death” as the strapline to her business. It was a blazing hot day in June for this recording, Claire marching the short walk to meet with Dee and cook together in her bright, sunny kitchen in Bishopston. Claire knocks on the front door, to be met by Dee, already in an apron and raring to go with one of her favourite - very much battered and splattered - cookbooks to hand, 30 Minute Indian by Sunil Vijayakar published in the year 2000 by Octopus. Within minutes Claire and Dee are chopping and chatting together, cooking one of Dee's favourite curries from the book. It is a recipe Dee swears by, and cooks often for her family. Over the years, because Dee has now been cooking this recipe for a good many years now, Dee has made her own adjustments, tinkering with the recipe to suit her, and her children's tastes.  Claire has wanted to cook with an undertaker for the podcast since way back in Series 1, and truthfully, this episode is everything Claire had hoped it would be. Dee and Claire discuss many topics as they cook, from the practical, such as artfully arranged spice drawers and a love of measuring spoons to the more profound, what happens to our bodies after we die and what impact Queen Victoria had on the modern funeral. There is a brief, but poignant moment in the recording, when Dee and Claire's discussion tackles some of the bigger questions life must throw at us, with Claire having to steady herself, her emotions getting the better of her, composure regained, the pair continue cooking, the curry smelling utterly delicious.  This is an extraordinary episode of 5 O'Clock Apron Podcast, listen in, wherever you get your podcasts, as you cook along in your own kitchen and marvel at what a tonic food and cookery can be to everyday life, for everyone.  Dee's Chicken and Cashew Nut Curry Recipe Serves 4 Ingredients; 1 onion, roughly chopped  4 tbsp tomato puree  1 heaped tbsp Greek style yogurt  2 garlic cloves  Thumb sized piece of ginger, peeled Juice ½ lemon  ¼ tsp ground turmeric 2 tsp garam masala 2 tsp salt 70g lightly toasted cashew nuts  800g diced, skinless chicken thigh 3 tbsp coconut oil, or use ghee or neutral oil 50g dried apricots, thinly sliced  300ml hot chicken stock, or use water  1- 3 tsp hot aubergine pickle  200g baby spinach leaves Big bunch of coriander, stalks finely chopped, leaves roughly chopped    Method; In a food processor, add the onion, tomato puree, 50g of the cashew nuts, ginger, garlic, turmeric, lemon juice, yogurt, salt and garam masala and process to form a smooth, thick paste. In a large wide frying pan, add the coconut oil and the onion paste, cook the paste over a moderate heat for around 4 - 5 minutes, until the paste takes on a darker colour and begins to smell very fragrant. Add the diced chicken thighs and mix well to combine. Add the hot stock to the pan and add the apricots and coriander stalks. Give the pan a good mix and put a lid on the pan. Cook the curry over a moderate to low heat for around 30 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through. Remove the lid, stir through the baby spinach leaves and add the hot aubergine pickle, more or less, and to taste. Check the seasoning, adding more salt, lemon juice, spicy pickle or use chopped fresh chilli, to taste. Serve with steamed rice or naan, roti or paratha and add the remaining cashews and the chopped coriander leaf to the top of the curry to serve.  Learn more about your ad choices. [Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for The Boys, Season 5, Episode 5, “One-Shots."]Between Homelander's (Antony Starr) wildly impulsive behavior and the frequent extreme violence across the board in The Boys, we were bound to lose a number of key characters in the show's final season. Season 5 kicked off with an especially surprising one, forcing fans to say goodbye to someone who's been part of the Prime Video series since day one, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train. Now, Season 5, Episode 5, “One-Shots,” removes yet another major character from the equation. At the end of the episode, Homelander kills Valorie Curry's Firecracker. With her run on The Boys wrapping up in spectacular fashion, with quite a few exceptional performance beats, Curry took the time to swing by the Collider Ladies Night studio for an in-depth interview about her journey to The Boys, and her experience digging into the “sad, racist, homophobic piece of shit” that is Firecracker. In addition to discussing Homelander's declaration that he is God and how that changes everything for her, we also talked about the only moment we get a peek at Misty Tucker Gray at the beginning of Episode 5, and, of course, her demise at the hands of Homelander. Podcasting 2.0 June 5th 2026 Episode 262 - "Podcleanse" Dave and Adam are joined by John Spurlock and throw a big idea into the boardroom: The Podcast Data Collective Shownotes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Spurlock - Guest The man behind op3.dev and Livewire.io - From the Great State of New Jersey! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 01 - THE IMPRESSION HEIST — AMP TASK FORCE RATIFIES 4 EXPOSURE DEFINITIONS, NO DISSENTING VOTES Podnews press release Jun 4: AMP Task Force Introduces Cross-Platform Alternative to the Podcast "Download" — "unified impression guidance for audio and video, advancing impression-based measurement as the medium's primary transaction currency." Four exposure definitions ratified. JS Jun 4 quote: "the AMP Task Force ratified a new framework with four exposure definitions, with no dissenting votes." Podcast Play: 30 seconds of content played, audio or video, once per user per session. Podcast Audience: The number of unique users who had a Podcast Play. Ad Impression: A commercial begins playing for the user. Ad Audience: The number of users exposed to an Ad Impression. They wanted to 'hasten the demand' Backstory: AMP first emerged May 29 (Podnews) — same day PC20-261 aired — "to confront podcasting's measurement dilemma." @dave reaction Jun 4 16:12: "RE: [Podnews AMP story] More secretive, back room podcast 'industry' nonsense." PNWR Jun 5 confirms the cabal-composition critique — James and Sam open the show debating AMP. James: "they also want to define what an impression is" + "we don't have a definition of podcast." Sam: "I don't think podcasting is [defined], we can measure consumption." PNWR catches the gaps [0:09:00-0:09:30]: "Spotify yes, Acast no, Art19 missing… Apple is already doing that. Apple is already being cut [out]." Same observation @dave made — who's in the room and who isn't. @js replies @dave on AMP Jun 4: "@dave Dave there were no dissenting votes" — Mastodon-thread confirmation that JS + Dave are on the same page about the consensus-by-cabal red flag. Discussion: V4V counter-thesis — No Agenda is value-for-value (no impressions, no exposures). Open standards vs industry cabals. PNWR is independent-podcaster-aligned; AMP is platform-aligned. Podnews AMP Jun 4 press release Podnews AMP origin May 29 @dave Jun 4 reaction post JS Jun 4 quote post PNWR this week (Pod News Weekly Review) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 02 - THE OPEN COUNTERPART — PODCAST INDEX ISSUE #775 (PNWR + @DAVE BOTH ON IT) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 03 - THE WHY BEHIND IMPRESSIONS — "THE FIRST FOUR AND A HALF MINUTES" ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 04 - THE PODCASTING 2.0 DATA COLLECTIVE — THE OPEN ANSWER TO AMP The Podcasting 2.0 Data Collective — the open, V4V-aligned answer to the AMP cabal. Not a consortium with ratified definitions and trade-press releases. A collective of open tools and honest sentinels: OP3 for analytics, Podverse + newpodcasts.net for corpus data, Podcast Index for the namespace, Issue #775 for client identification done right. Matthew 5:6 (KJV): "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." The verse that frames the work. Open data, transparent measurement, value-for-value — righteousness in podcast governance. Those who hunger for it are the ones who'll be filled. The AMP cabal trades righteousness for an ad-tech seat at the table; the Data Collective just keeps the lights on. THE CHARTER — Adam's working document, June 5 2026 We hold more power than we give ourselves credit for. Definition of a Podcast: Syndicated delivery of media files with precise consumption data for all stakeholders. What we brought in (the Podcasting 2.0 namespace contributions): Transcripts Chapters Funding (V4V) Person Location …etc. Statistical relevance: Advertising is based on percentages. Collectively we have about 10% of all apps — statistically enough to be relevant. Godcaster app tracing proves we can measure important metrics. Data to aggregate and display: Follows Plays per episode Completion rate by time Strategy: Become the authoritative source by publishing open stats Monetize We will not be loved initially by the industry, because we will have the truth. Advertisers will love us though, as will Podcasters. Monetization: Data subscriptions Resellers (DJL) Ad Networks Podcasters themselves (consideration) Podcast Index has built the trust needed to house this data. We already have a data exchange relationship with the apps. op3.dev is critical in this equation to offset the old system for correlation. OP3 full podcast support landed this week [PNWR 1:53:00-1:54:30] — OP3.dev now has full episode-level + show-level analytics support for podcasts. Spec work also moving on private feeds (insecure feeds spec). Direct relevance to V4V infrastructure. @dave → @james Jun 5 11:50: "Do you have the daily lists that show up on newpodcasts.net available anywhere as a download? I'd love the full, historical list of feed urls that have appeared there if possible." Open-data request — corpus curation theme. @dave → @mitch May 30: "Would you be able to send me a flat list of all the feed urls in Podverse which have more than X number of subscribers/followers? Let's say more than 5?" Podverse data request — corpus quality. Anchor FM RSS restoration request — Fri 11:01 email to NA inbox (Lusso Lets). Listener can't retrieve feed data from Podcast Index. Adjacent infra beat — the unsung user-facing pain of corpus indexing. Discussion: corpus curation as a steady-state job (Dave's sentinel work) vs measurement standards (the AMP cabal) — which one keeps the ecosystem honest? The Data Collective doesn't ratify, it just shows up to maintain. Hunger and thirst. They shall be filled. Knicks STEALING Game 1 in San Antonio STUNS The Arena as The Arena reacts to Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks taking care of the San Antonio Spurs in the 2nd half of Game 1 to steal home court advantage as Victor Wembanyama and Rashad McCant's Spurs could not get anything going offensively in the 2nd half which led to the Spurs dropping their first Game 1 NBA Finals loss in franchise History. They also react to the performance of Jalen Brunson who once again proved that he can be a Number 1 guy on a championship team, leading the Knicks with 30 points as well as multiple clutch buckets in crunch time. Should the Knicks be favored to win the NBA Finals after their stunning game 1 victory? Last, the crew reacts to Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry who recently ended his sneaker free agency and took his Curry brand talents to Li-Ning on a 10-year deal. Mike welcomes Andrew Nette and Jedidiah Ayres back to dissect Dark of the Sun (1968), a brutal, kinetic men‑on‑a‑mission film whose pulp thrills sit atop a surprisingly rich political and historical foundation. The trio digs into the movie's Cold War backdrop, its depiction of the Congo Crisis, and the real mercenaries who inspired characters like Curry and the sadistic Henlein — from “Mad” Mike Hoare to Siegfried “Congo” Müller, whose Iron Cross‑wearing exploits echo through the film. They explore Jack Cardiff's muscular direction, the film's obsession with logistics, its uneasy colonial gaze, and how Rod Taylor and Jim Brown anchor a story that veers from heist film to war movie to moral reckoning. Chainsaws, trains, diamonds, and geopolitics collide in one of the wildest action films of the 1960s.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth

Watching a couple great Republican candidates have success in the primaries in California is fun and it does signal something significant.  But don't buy into the hype that Spencer Pratt or Steve Hilton will win their general elections.  California is locked down by the dems in every way imaginable.    60 Minutes lead anchor Scott Pelley threw a giant hissy fit at the office Monday in front of the whole staff trashing his new boss.  So the new boss wasn't the same as the old boss and fired Pelley.  This is so good.    Three Argentinian soccer fans on bicycles traveled over 10,000 miles the past 10 months to get to Kansas City.  What we saw upon their arrival Tuesday was just great.    NBA superstar Steph Curry is taking over $1 billion from a Chinese shoe and sportswear company that has long been known for inhumane conditions for workers... and so far there has been zero backlash because of Curry's liberal privilege.    The Black Crowes get boo'd and have fans walk out of their concert in Florida after a USA chant breaks out.  Royals closer Lucas Erceg is not the man for the job.  Time for Daniel Lynch in that role.  The Women's College World Series is set and Texas Tech is supposedly the team to hate.  The NBA and NHL finals are underway, this will be a fun few days.    And our Final Final is an incredibly ambitious plan for 50,000 people to permanantly live on a ship.  You have to hear this.
