This week Alex and Randy go over all their recent favorites from the site, talking along the way about a heavy-breathing Fairlane, the terrible-or-terrific teals of the early '90s, a bullet-riddled Jeep, a raft of special Z-cars, and one of our favorite sellers. They take a lengthy detour into oddball induction setups before returning to the special Cunningham race car on the site, which prompts memories of Alex's traumatic childhood visit to The Briggs Cunningham Automotive Museum.Next, assumed clone status; missing a Rallye in Tahoe; a brief review of '80s box flares, followed by an about-face to perhaps the curviest car ever made; a solid parking lot scene on taco night; fulfilling a 60-year dream for Alex's dad; a visit to Charlie Goodman's place; Randy's upcoming pod episode with Rob Fisher ahead of our appearance at the Hillsborough Concours, the longest-running event of its kind in California; our July gathering at the Rose Cup at PIR (also the location of the first-ever BaT event); and this summer's BaT sponsorship of the vintage weekend festivities in Elkhart Lake.Follow along! This week, the Country Music Dads welcome Nathan Evans Fox to the podcast. He is a Nashville-based country music artist and dad with a fascinating new album on the way. He explores his own country upbringing. Using traditional themes of land, hard work and faith, he approaches his music and life from the political left, in a space considered very conservative. Fox's album Heirloom is out May 29 on Free Dirt Records.Show Notes:3:12 - A discussion of “Lots of Beginnings” brings the conversation to the very end of the album, as Nathan explains the process of losing his dad and becoming one in the same year -- and how he landed on the title of the Heirloom album. And we dive deep into family right away.6:00 - Nathan's connection to family, family land and the family system, is deeply connected to his political understanding. His understanding is wildly personal, tactile and real. The family land allowed him to know his extended family through his universe of ghosts -- and it still looms large in his experience even after the family sold it.9:50 - Growing up very weird and country go hand in hand with Nathan's experience.10:50 - A feeling of home vs enjoying where you live. Nathan and the dads talk about how to create a home. Grief, economics and complications.12:10 - His time as a hospital chaplain exposed Nathan to the full range of emotions of those at the hardest points in their lives, forcing him to radically listen. These experiences drove him to be more explicit about the need for his music to become more message-driven. It also put his life as an artist in perspective.15:50 - Going viral with “Hillby Hymn” and bringing liberation theology to country music fans, and how Nathan became many folks' favorite worship leader.18:51 - Understanding how to square yourself to the cultural dominance of Christianity in the bible belt, and how this language can be used as a vernacular poetic experience, one that helps folks accept something they don't expect.25:48 - “We belong and we feel, well before we think or form ideologies,” Nathan said. And we should likely get back to knowing our neighbors and caring.26:35 - A discussion of Nathan's music feels a bit like contemporary Christian music, suggested Dave. And Nathan felt called out.28:45 - Talking about “Racecar” and its place within contemporary country music, or as Nathan calls it, “Butthole Country Music.” Dave and Nathan geek out about Bro Country and how “Racecar” references “Dirt Road Anthem” for tone. Yet the topic of this song is anything but traditional -- in fact, it's pretty divisive. The guys jump into the question of politics of it all.34:24 - The Dad Life Sound Check featuring songs from Roger Miller, Ryan Bingham and Corb Lund & Hayes Carll.Thank you for listening. Send us Fan MailWe're joined by Grant Williams this week, a third generation classic Jaguar racer who is a crowd favourite out on track. Starting from pole position in his first race, to winning the championship in the first year, to wowing the fans at Goodwood events going sideways at every opportunity. It's fair to say racing is in his blood. It started with his Grandfather, who with a few friends used to all race on the same license, keeping a bucket of water on the paddock to cool the drum brakes between races! He regularly races BUY 1 which was first bought by his Grandfather from the factory team as it had disc brakes and kept beating him! Grant has also recently bought back his father's Mk2 Jaguar wide body 'lightweight' project which will be powered by 700hp V12 race engine, and features 19” wide rear wheels from an F1 car! Other cars of note include a 3 door Range Rover tow car, and a Mk3 Ford Escort Van that used to tow the Jag behind it. Grant would travel in the car, and his Dad would drive the van - when they got to a hill, Grant fired up the race car and pushed the van along, helping it get to the top!! What happens when a high-performance race shop decides to jump into aerospace and defense manufacturing — and goes all in? In this episode of Machine Shop Mastery, I sit down with Marty Moran of TKO Precision Machining and TKO Motorsports in Reno, Nevada. What started in 2008 as a motorsports-focused shop building custom race cars and high-end components evolved into a serious aerospace and defense manufacturing operation about eight years ago. Marty shares how the team leveraged deep motorsports and aerospace experience to enter defense manufacturing, earn AS9100 certification, and build a thriving 15-machine shop. But what stands out most isn't just their growth — it's their culture. Communication is constant. Training is intentional. Hiring is rigorous. And everyone is expected to succeed. We talk about workforce development, cross-training machinists into race crew roles, the realities of AS9100 compliance, building depth through mentorship, and the painful ERP lesson that ultimately led them to ProShop. Marty also shares why aerospace certification doesn't just open doors — it makes you a better shop. If you're trying to build a resilient, team-driven shop in today's manufacturing environment, this conversation is packed with insight. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... Happy National Do a Grouch a Favor Day! We kick off the episode with a recap of Erin's chaotic appearance on the local WFMZ news, where she accidentally crashed a tearful anchor goodbye while wearing a $368 Team USA Ralph Lauren sweater and "hard pants." Bo was so impressed he offered to cover the upcoming Craig Conover 10K race from a news van. Speaking of the 10K, we review some diabolical listener suggestions for the loser's punishment—from taking the SATs to running from Deputy Dog Radar in a bite suit. Then we dive into a massive Winter Olympics recap. We review the Milan Opening Ceremony and passionately defend Lindsey Vonn from the haters after her devastating crash. We also celebrate our official "Swiffer Curling" manifestation coming true for Chris Plys, debate whether the Snoop Dogg commentary gimmick is getting tired (should Elmo or Gordon Ramsay replace him?), and praise Team USA's tailored outfits alongside Mongolia's effortlessly "dripped out" uniforms. We also uncover the most insane sports cheating scandal of the year: male ski jumpers injecting their private parts with hyaluronic acid to increase their suit's aerodynamic airtime. In other sports news, we celebrate Ricky Stenhouse Jr.'s iconic Chef Boyardee NASCAR wrap and merch drop, while Erin spirals over an offer to caddy at a professional PGA tour event, fearing a sweaty, club dropping disaster. Finally, we time travel to recap a mostly boring Super Bowl. We complain about the endless pharmaceutical and crypto ads, but applaud 50 Cent's incredibly petty DoorDash commercial taking shots at Diddy. We also review Bad Bunny's halftime show, praising the stunning set design, Puerto Rican cultural pride, and the emotional moment he handed a Grammy to his younger self. We wrap it all up with a wholesome "No Bad, No Sad" story about a Japanese volleyball player who hit a sideline worker with a ball and practically slid across the court on his belly to profusely apologize.
Today's episode aims to answer a simple question: does “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” still apply in today's automotive world? === Visit http://JasonSentMe.com to get a Hagerty Guaranteed Value (TM) collector-car insurance quote! === Spurred by guest appearances of Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM and CLK63 AMG Black Series, Jason and Derek explore all angles of the motorsport-to-road car pipeline in this episode. From the NASCAR Camry to the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR, many race series manufactures feature cars that resemble road car counterparts but end up being entirely different under the skin. Other times, homologation road cars like the E30 BMW M3, Subaru WRX STI, or Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution end up being very similar to what consumers can go buy off the showroom floor. But at the end of the day, what part of a marque's motorsports marketing inspires an enthusiast enough to become a consumer of the product? Is racing ever enough? Find out more on this week's episode of The Carmudgeon Show. (P.S - We'll be taking a couple of weeks off due to scheduling conflicts. See you at the beginning of March!) Kicking things off, writer and car aficionado Spike Feresten shares what it was like working with Jerry Seinfeld on Unfrosted, but the conversation quickly veers into the fast lane—vintage race cars, high-stakes auctions, and legendary motorcycles. From Jerry's Porsche 917 auction to Jay Leno's crash wisdom, Adam and Spike swap stories about the machines that shaped them. Later, Adam takes on the latest cultural battlefield: classism, after a weekend tweet explodes into controversy. He defends his stance on self-reliance and claps back at critics who accuse him of privilege, sharing a no-nonsense take on paying your fair share and pandemic-era handouts. Jason "Mayhem" Miller breaks down the biggest headlines, including a $100M grant linking racism to Alzheimer's, a push to remove soda from food stamps, and the NYC subway attack victim's family demanding justice. After the break, Jon Cryer joins Adam to reminisce about their days as neighbors and his wild ride working with Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. He then introduces Suzanne Rico, whose shocking new podcast, The Man Who Calculated Death, uncovers her family's dark Nazi past—a gripping real-life historical investigation.
