Episode Three is here! And it's LOOOOOOOONGIt's been about a month since our last broadcast, and once again I apologize for the huge gap between episodes. We have a special hour-long episode covering a wide array of topics, including....The Cadillac Ciel concept - Will it ever make it to production? Probably not, but it's too hot not to talk about.Curtis's newest acquisition, a Mercedes CLK Black Series, making the rest of us extremely jealous. The death of Saab (No picture available, as they never made a car worth taking a picture of IMO)Also, John, Curtis and Aaron wax philosophical about what makes a car attractive. Lastly, a special segment for our friends on Supraforums about the elusive "JDM Spider" craze.Thread can be found here: http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?565529-Spider-in-the-MKIV-Taillights-WTF&highlight=jdm+spiderPlus much, much more!Enjoy!Feedback is always appreciated! This week the topic is wood. Sorta kinda. Actually, we'll be touching on the very special wood that went into the new Cadillac Ciel concept, and we'll be talking with none other than Clay Dean, the Director of North America Advanced Design for GM. We'll be asking him where the future of Cadillac and other GM design is going in the next few years, and we'll see if we can talk him into letting us test drive Cadillac's new über-sedan -- but somehow we doubt it. To discuss this and more, John McElroy is joined in studio by Peter De Lorenzo, the Autoextremist, and Scott Burgess from The Detroit News.
The UAW announced it is putting negotiations with Chrysler on the back burner and devoting its main efforts with Ford. Volkswagen doesn’t have enough dealers to triple its sales in the U.S. The wood trim in the Cadillac Ciel concept comes from a 300-year-old tree in Naples, Italy that was felled during a storm. All that and more, plus a look at the new interior in the 2013 Chevy Malibu.
This week we invite a former After Hours regular to join us for our automotive bull session. David Welch from Bloomberg Businessweek will be stopping by to talk about all the latest controversies in the auto industry. One thing we want to know: why are Ford and Cadillac tipping their hands in future design direction? The Cadillac Ciel and, most recently, the Ford Evos are beautiful concepts that signal where these brands are headed, but doesn't that give the competition an edge? We'll be getting into other news of the week as well including a surprising sales story from GM and the ongoing UAW negotiations. To discuss all of this and more, John McElroy is joined in studio by His Extremeness, Peter De Lorenzo of Autoextremist.com.
This week we're asking: why did Jack Roush hire a chief designer? And, we think we've got the perfect man to answer that question: Roush's new head of design, D. Mark Trostle, a man with an impressive performance car pedigree. He's designed such cars as the Buick GNX and Chevy SSR as well as the renowned Speed33 Roadster -- so what's going down at Roush? In addition, we'll be discussing the news as usual. Is Toyota playing it too safe with the Camry's new styling? Is the Cadillac Ciel concept a hint at the brand's upcoming flagship sedan? Why are Ford and Toyota teaming up on hybrid development? To discuss all of this and more, John McElroy is joined in studio by the one and only Autoextremist, Peter De Lorenzo.
There were several reveals from luxury automakers at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Cadillac unveiled a large, four-door convertible concept called the Ciel. Infiniti debuted a seven-passenger, three-row luxury crossover, powered by a V-6 engine matched with a CVT, called the JX. And Lexus showed off the 2013 GS 350 which has a 3.5-liter V-6 under the hood that produces 306 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque. All that and more, plus a little taste, a morsel, of what you missed on last night’s Autoline After Hours, where we broadcasted LIVE from Woodward Avenue.
