What if the cause of a dog's chronic pain, gait abnormalities, weakness, or unexplained mobility challenges isn't orthopedic at all?In this episode of PetAbility Podcast, hosts Chris Cranston, MPT, CCRP, and Cathy Symon, CVT, CCRP, CHPT, explore the often-overlooked condition known as Tethered Cord Syndrome (TCS) with pet physical therapist and rehabilitation expert Amie Hesbach. TCS occurs when the spinal cord is abnormally restricted, creating tension on the nervous system that can affect movement, comfort, and overall quality of life.Because the symptoms can mimic a variety of orthopedic, neurologic, and behavioral (think anxiety!) conditions, many affected dogs may go undiagnosed for years. Amie shares her insights into recognizing the subtle signs of TCS, the challenges of obtaining an accurate diagnosis, and the treatment and rehabilitation options available to help these dogs live more comfortable, functional lives.Whether you're a veterinarian, rehabilitation professional, trainer, or devoted dog owner, this conversation will help you better understand a condition that may be hiding in plain sight. In This EpisodeWhat Tethered Cord Syndrome is and how it affects the canine nervous systemWhy TCS is frequently overlooked or misdiagnosedCommon signs and symptoms that should raise concernConditions that TCS can mimicHow TCS is diagnosed and why diagnosis can be challengingCurrent treatment options and the role of rehabilitationPractical advice for owners seeking answers for dogs with chronic mobility issuesThe importance of advocacy, awareness, and early recognitionKey TakeawayTethered Cord Syndrome may be uncommon, but awareness matters. The fastest way to time-travel through car culture is to flip through old ads and we do exactly that, one glossy page at a time. We react to vintage magazine car advertisements packed with chrome, bold taglines, and illustrated renderings that feel closer to concept art than photography. Along the way, we ask a simple question with a complicated answer: why did car marketing used to feel so direct, and why does it feel so scattered now? From there, we chase the nostalgia into newsprint. We talk about the era of full-page dealership newspaper ads, the ones that listed rows of cars with prices you could circle, plus weekend service specials like oil changes and tires. It's a practical look at how inventory, consumer laws, and modern buying habits pushed that whole experience online, and what we miss when the entire local market no longer fits on one page. Then we point the car toward Houston with a set of driving destinations built for date night: a tucked-away speakeasy-style cocktail lounge, a neon-soaked quirky spot with pizza, a historic wine bar with haunted reputation, an outdoor beer garden, and a small retro neighborhood bar. We close with a real-world 2026 Subaru Outback review, covering trims, standard AWD, CVT behavior, fuel economy, and why the return of physical buttons matters for everyday driving.

The hosts open the show noting that the power-seat recall affecting the Hyundai Palisade has expanded to include the mechanically similar Kia Telluride. Listen in for details. As predicted in a previous episode, Tom shares news of the dissolution of the Afeela electric-vehicle brand. Afeela was a Honda/Sony joint venture nearing production of a premium midsize sedan built in the U.S. Tom also discussed the potential impact of E15 fuel, which has been federally approved for national distribution. E15 gasoline has 5 percent more ethanol content than E10, the latter of which is common in most states. The blended fuel may help lower gasoline pump prices, but has its downsides. Still in the first segment, Jill reviews the Mercedes-Benz GLE450 midsize crossover. Listen in for her review. In the second segment, Jill and Tom welcome Matthew Valbuena to the show. Mathew is Mazda Project Manager of In-Vehicle Technology, and shares with the hosts a number of connectivity features found on the all-new 2026 CX-5 small crossover. In the last segment, Jill is subjected to Tom's "CVT or Automatic" quiz, featuring a bonus question about radishes. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Rodeo hats on, sleeves rolled up, and the garage door wide open—this one blends street-level car culture with the blunt truth about where the auto industry stands. We lay out why major automakers posted eye-popping EV write-downs and what that means for real buyers who just want reliability, value, and a car that fits their life. The takeaway is simple but powerful: the future isn't either-or. Hybrids, EVs, and tried-and-true ICE models will share the road, and smart shoppers can use that variety to their advantage. We map the season ahead—from the Team Gillman Mega Meet to Tailpipes and Tacos—and share a practical spring prep checklist you can tackle this weekend. Wash and decontaminate the paint, refresh trim, and give that K&N filter a proper clean and dry before a light re-oil to keep sensors happy. We also flag a surprising road-trip stat: a 648-mile stretch with no public restrooms. Planning matters, whether you're managing bathroom breaks, plotting charging stops, or just making sure the kids don't hit meltdown mile. Good prep turns long hauls into easy wins. Our test drive of the 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE shows why sensible can still feel special. The two-tone look is sharp, the cabin is simple to live with, and the fuel economy makes daily driving painless. AWD and a refined ride help in bad weather, while pricing stays competitive against the Kia Niro and Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. Cargo with the rear seats up is tight and the CVT won't thrill, but the balance of comfort, efficiency, and price lands in the sweet spot for commuters and small families. We wrap with quick hits from the racing world, including the Andretti-linked Cadillac chassis naming, and a clear-eyed view of how policy and pricing shape demand. Can a used Nissan with over 100,000 miles and a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) survive the salt flats of Bonneville and the rock crawling trails of Moab? In this episode of VADA Live, host Dan Carrigan sits down with Tim Pohanka, Executive Vice President of the Pohanka Automotive Group, to discuss his hit new YouTube series, "Tour Detour: The Good, The Bad, & The CVT." Tim and two fellow dealers set out to bust the myths surrounding Nissan's CVT reliability by taking three high-mileage vehicles on a punishing 1,500-mile road trip across the American West. From river crossings to desert sand dunes, they wanted to prove that these cars could handle conditions no engineer ever intended. Two very different roads, one clear question: what actually works for everyday drivers? We put miles on the 2025 Subaru Forester Premium Hybrid and the refreshed Kia EV6 GT-Line AWD to find out, comparing real-world efficiency, tech usability, comfort, and cost. Along the way, we pull apart the numbers you care about—mpg versus range, tow ratings, cargo usability—and the little things that make or break ownership, like whether your phone stays put on the charger. We start with the Forester Hybrid's practical perks: wide-opening doors that make entry easy, an insulated windshield that softens road noise, and a simple, clean interface anchored by a 12.3-inch digital cluster and 11.6-inch touchscreen. The hybrid system's 194 horsepower feels adequate, and while the CVT's manual mode isn't essential, the all-wheel-drive ride is planted and predictable. We talk through honest mileage—32.3 mpg over nearly 400 miles—and why a 16.6-gallon tank and 1,500-pound tow rating help this small SUV punch above its weight. Then comes the money: where the trim pricing lands, and how it stacks up against CR-V Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, CX-50 Hybrid, and Sportage Hybrid. We switch gears to car culture with a practical guide to starting a collection without celebrity money. Think storage first, define a theme, build a wish list, network with local enthusiasts, and budget for maintenance before you chase the dream. Whether you love 80s Chevys or numbers-matching time capsules, discipline builds a better garage than impulse ever will. Then the EV6 GT-Line takes center stage. Built in Georgia, this is one of the sharpest-looking EVs on the market, with refreshed front and rear design, a sweeping cockpit display, and a smart flat phone charger in a striking console. We talk range reality—expect around 275 miles in daily use—charging frustrations, surprisingly smooth handling for a 4,500-pound crossover, and a 2,700-pound tow rating that adds real utility. Pricing, competitors, and the truth about finding fast, reliable chargers round it out.If you're cross-shopping hybrids and EVs, this ride-along gives you clarity without hype. Follow the show, share it with a friend who's shopping, and drop your take: team hybrid or team EV? Ever wonder what a dashboard really says about a car? We take you on a fast, design-first journey from the brute clarity of American muscle gauges to the handcrafted elegance of vintage European cockpits, the sculpted glamour of Art Deco luxury, and the software-rich arenas of today's supercars. Along the way, custom hot rod clusters remind us that the best instrument panel can be a mirror of the builder's personality. With the design lens focused, we pivot to planning a joyful holiday road trip through San Antonio. Think River Walk lights cascading from the trees, boats glowing under the arches, and a soundtrack of carols riding the current. SeaWorld layers live theater, the state's biggest light display, and Santa in a cowboy hat while merry mariachis roam the paths. Add cocoa-fueled trolley tours, the San Antonio Zoo's illuminated trails, and ice skating at Hemisfair for a loop that blends movement, music, and memory. We also dive into the refreshed Alamo experience featuring narration by Phil Collins and a reimagined plaza that helps you visualize the mission's original scale. To close, we put the 2025 Subaru Forester Wilderness through its paces. Expect a clean, integrated touchscreen, water-friendly materials with copper accents, white-letter tires, and trail-forward styling. The 2.5-liter boxer and CVT deliver practical mileage near 26 mpg, while comfort, visibility, and playful cabin Easter eggs make daily drives easy and weekend gravel inviting. We compare it with the Bronco Sport Badlands, CR‑V TrailSport, and Rogue Rock Creek to help you sort value from vibes. If design stories, holiday lights, and smart adventure rigs are your thing, you'll feel right at home. In this special episode of Tim Talks, Tim sits down with dealer principal Tim Pohanka to unpack one of the most creative, daring, and downright fun marketing experiments the automotive world has seen in years. Pohanka and two other Nissan dealer principals each bought a sub-$10,000 used Nissan, added minimal modifications, and embarked on a 1,200-mile off-road endurance challenge across Utah's most brutal terrain — from the Bonneville Salt Flats to Moab, Little Sahara, Cathedral Valley, and more. With more than 150 hours of drone, in-car, and cinematic footage, the “Tour Detour” chronicles not only the punishing journey but also the surprising durability of these inexpensive vehicles, particularly the much-debated Nissan CVT.What emerges is more than a road trip. It's a blueprint for modern dealership storytelling: raw, human, adventurous, and anchored in authenticity instead of polished ad scripts. The conversation dives into how this grassroots project reshapes consumer perception, celebrates the joy of the American road trip, and proves that creativity in auto retail still has endless room to grow. It's part entertainment, part marketing masterclass, and fully a reminder that the car business can — and should — still be fun.Takeaways0:00 — Why leadership and creativity still define the best dealerships.0:50 — $6k Nissans pushed through a 1,200-mile off-road challenge.1:51 — Moab, Little Sahara, Cathedral Valley, UTV parks, Telluride — some of the harshest environments in America.2:44 — 150 Hours of cinematic footage to tell a story OEMs can't.3:57 — The journey starts at the Bonneville Salt Flats, where Tim's grandfather once raced4:38 — Nissan's CVT has taken heat, but the team intentionally tried to break it… and couldn't. 7:14 — A local Utah man keeps his shop open until 11 PM to rescue the crew.8:01 — A badly timed jump at Swing Arm City launches Tim's roof rack into the air.9:12 — Most people can't afford a $70k Bronco or Rubicon but a $10k adventure car? That's relatable and inspiring.10:46 — How storytelling and authenticity outperform today's noisy, overly polished ads.12:12 — The Tour Detour clips now help humanize the dealership and show real-world use cases customers trust.15:45 — After surviving impossible terrain, Tim can hardly part with his Nissan.17:50 — A Challenge to Dealerships Everywhere: Every store can tell authentic stories that make cars fun again.Connect with Tim Pohanka on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/timpohanka/Watch the Tour Detour: https://thetourdetour.com/Connect with Tim Cox on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tim-cox-29065a7/Listen to more episodes of Tim Talks at: https://www.carnow.com/timtalks/
Power meets perspective from the street to the driveway. We start behind the wheel of the 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier 4WD, unpacking what a modern full-size SUV gets right: a serene cabin, a 17-inch horizontal infotainment screen, a crisp 15-inch head-up display, and magnetic ride control that smooths rough pavement. The 6.2L V8 and 10-speed automatic serve up 420 hp and 460 lb-ft, real-world confidence for towing up to 8,200 pounds and threading parking lots without drama. We talk price reality too, from base LS to a Premier build that climbs with paint, 22-inch wheels, and comfort options, and we stack it against the Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada, Toyota Sequoia hybrid, and GMC Yukon. Then we widen the lens to car culture and remember why we fell for this world. From the chopped and channeled customs of the 1950s and 1960s to rivalries that sometimes boiled over—like the 1959 Artesia Moose Lodge rumble—car clubs shaped style, speed, and community. That legacy lives on in quieter ways: charity cruises, skills shared over open hoods, and the unspoken code of friends rotating from one garage to the next. Personal stories bring it home, reminding us that culture isn't just events and logos; it's late-night fixes, bent pushrods, and the pride of making something run right. To round it out, we jump into the 2025 Subaru Ascent Onyx Touring. Built in Indiana with standard all-wheel drive, Subaru's three-row plays the long game with a conservative design, a stellar, easy-to-use infotainment interface, and thoughtful touches like retracting third-row headrests for a clear rear view. The 2.4L turbo flat-four and CVT deliver a smooth, efficient drive—around 23 mpg over a long stint—while keeping 5,000 pounds of towing in its back pocket. If the Tahoe is about power and presence, the Ascent is about calm and confidence: stable handling from a low center of gravity, high safety scores, and the kind of ride that makes family trips feel shorter. If you enjoyed the blend of real-world reviews and car club heritage, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review—what are you driving, and which garage story still makes you smile?Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. We are revisiting this timely topic with a Rehab Rewind. Since this episode aired in March of 2024 Cathy has proudly earned the title of Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Technician. Join us as PetAbility hosts, Cathy and Chris, share their expertise around this topic that will undoubtedly touch all our lives in some way, shape, or form. Our pet's are living longer, surviving illnesses and traumas that were unthinkable in the past. Looking for a family SUV that doesn't force you to choose between comfort, efficiency, and price? We dive into the 2025 Kia Sorento Hybrid SX Prestige and unpack how this three-row “small” SUV manages a big presence, refined ride, and impressive mpg without blowing the budget. From first impressions to real-world numbers, we bring a driver's-eye view of what stands out and where it lands among the best hybrids on sale today. We start with design: a crisp Kia grille, distinctive orange DRLs, quad vertical tail lights, and straight-line sculpting that reads clean and upscale. Inside, the tone shifts to near-luxury with quilted seat accents, a sculpted dash, and an available 12.3-inch screen that keeps driving info and entertainment simple and sharp. The dial shifter frees up space on the console, and the three-row, six-seat layout offers flexibility—small cargo hold with the third row up, generous room when it's folded. Then we get into the hardware. The hybrid pairing of a 1.6-liter turbo and electric assistance delivers 227 hp and 258 lb-ft through a six-speed automatic, skipping the drone of a CVT for a more traditional feel. All-wheel drive confidence, a 1,654-pound tow rating for weekend toys, and real-world efficiency of 32.8 mpg over 429 miles underline its breadth. On the road, ride quality is a standout: smooth, quiet, and composed, the sort of tuning that keeps everyone relaxed over long stretches. Finally, we tackle value and rivals. With a tested price of $49,130 and a hybrid starting point at $38,690, the Sorento sits below today's average new-car price while looking and riding like more. We stack it against the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, RAV4 Hybrid, and Honda CR-V Hybrid to show where the Sorento's extra row and upscale feel pay off. If you need space for six, crave low fuel bills, and appreciate a cabin that feels a class above, this is one to drive.Enjoyed the breakdown? The show starts with the 2025 Lucid Air Sedans, which Benjamin thoroughly reviews. This EV sedan from a well-funded startup, promises lots of performance and range, but Benjamin has some thoughts to share about all that. And he wonders, why do we have to keep changing the way we turn cars on and off? Then Sami takes on the 2025 Acura ADX, a much needed subcompact crossover in the Japanese automakers lineup. Based around the Integra, Civic and (ugh) HR-V, the ADX features a punchy 1.5-turbo which may be able to help us gloss over the car's CVT. Sami has plenty of positives and negatives to discuss with the ADX, so be sure to listen to the whole segment to learn everything you need to know about this new crossover.

Joe also opens up about the viral moment that changed everything, the toughest lessons he's learned as a founder, and his vision for CVT's future.Whether you're an ice cream lover, a fan of founder stories, or someone curious about building a brand from scratch, this episode is full of insights and inspiration you won't want to miss. As some states roll out veterinary assistant credentialing programs, a critical question emerges: Who's actually overseeing these initiatives, what are their future goals, and are they helping or hurting the profession? In this episode of The Veterinary Viewfinder, Dr. Ernie Ward and Beckie Mossor, MPA, RVT, examine the growing movement to credential veterinary assistants without consistent regulatory oversight, clear practice act integration, or protections for the assistants themselves. Focusing on emerging programs in states like Texas, Ward and Mossor question whether we're building sustainable career pathways or setting assistants up for burnout and backlash. Are financial incentives for third-party training programs taking priority over educational quality and long-term workforce needs? And how do these new assistant titles intersect (or conflict) with existing RVT, LVT, and CVT credentials? This conversation challenges veterinary professionals, educators, and policymakers to consider what genuine credentialing should entail: regulated, inclusive, and grounded in a framework that supports the entire team. Without structure and oversight, well-meaning reforms can deepen division, confuse the public, and erode trust within clinics. If you care about career advancement, team cohesion, and the future of veterinary support staff, this is a conversation you can't afford to ignore.
