Remember when car guys road tested cars? With the current crossover SUV craze in full swing, those days seem to be over, and who are we to say it's a bad thing. In this week's episode of *America on the Road*, host Jack Nerad and co-host Chris Teague take the wheels of two five-seat SUVs: the all-new and mass-market-priced 2025 Chevrolet Equinox and the premium-oriented 2025 Mazda CX-70 Turbo S Premium. Chevrolet's 2025 Equinox enters its fourth generation with a tasteful redesign, both inside and out. Under the hood, it offers a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel-drive models are paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while all-wheel-drive versions feature an 8-speed automatic transmission. The interior shows it modernity, boasting an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by Google . It also offers something the battery-electric version of the Equinox doesn't, and we'll tell you what that is, along with our overall review of the attractive SUV, in our road test segment. With a starting price around $28,600, the Equinox might well grab your attention. But how does it compare to the leaders in the compact SUV segment? We'll offer our opinions. While co-host Chris Teague was putting the Chevy Equinox to the test, host Jack Nerad was piloting a fascinating newcomer— the 2025 Mazda CX-70 Turbo S Premium. A reasonably new Mazda nameplate, the CX-70 is a midsize SUV that doesn't shy away from performance. Equipped with a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine delivering 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, it offers a spirited driving experience. At least as spirited a a midsize crossover is likely to be. The handsome SUV features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, standard all-wheel drive, and a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds. Inside, the CX-70 impresses with red Nappa leather seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Additional amenities include a panoramic sunroof, a Bose 12-speaker audio system, and a comprehensive suite of safety features. Priced at $52,450, it positions itself as a high-value alternative to European luxury SUVs. But it does have a foible or two, which we'll describe in the road test segment. In the News Ram 1500 Express Returns: Ram announces the 2026 Ram 1500 Express, a value-focused pickup starting at $44,495, featuring bold styling and a choice between a 305-hp V6 or a 420-hp turbocharged I-6 engine. Mercedes-Benz Expands U.S. Production: Mercedes-Benz plans to produce a new vehicle at its Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant by 2027, aligning with its strategy to localize production amid rising U.S. tariffs. Congress Challenges California's Gasoline Vehicle Ban: The U.S. House of Representatives votes to repeal California's ban on gasoline car sales, sparking debates on consumer choice, environmental impact, and economic implications. Ford Cancels $10 Billion Software Initiative: Ford abruptly ends its ambitious FNV4 software project after significant investment, raising questions about the company's future in vehicle software development. Special Guest In this week's interview segment,Tyson Jominy, Vice President of Data and Analytics at J.D. Power, joins the show to discuss the impact of tariffs on the automotive industry and offers insights for consumers planning to purchase a vehicle this year. Thanks for joing America on the Road* for your weekly dose of expert reviews, industry news, and valuable insights to keep you informed on the latest in the automotive world. Talking about Mitsubishi’s small ASX SUV today – the ASX has been around for along time – first surfacing in 2010 but updated visually three times since. Sharplypriced it remains our fourth best-selling small SUV, strongly recognised for itsvalue story and a 10-year warranty. A roomy small SUV in seven front wheeldrive grades from $26,240 drive-away for the entry manual GS – I drove the nextgrade up, the ES automatic, the best seller and frankly the one to own at $29,740drive-away. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder driving through a CVT or continuouslyvariable automatic. This year the ES gained lane departure warning for the firsttime, but it lacks rear cross traffic alert and autonomous emergency braking.Features include a rear-view camera, climate control aircon, rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers and air-con ducts to the rear seats. The Mitsubishi ASX EScompetes in a super competitive small SUV segment – not the latest design butthis trusty small SUV with great interior room has been kept competitive withsmall tweaks along the way. For a small family in today’s cost-conscious world, ithas one outstanding feature – a 10-year/200,000 km warranty if you keep itserviced by a Mitsubishi dealer. Drive details next segment. Driving Mitsubishi’s evergreen small SUV today – the ASX, not the latest smallSUV but outstanding value, long standing and well tried and tested and bestvalue in the second tier ES grade backed up by a 10-year/200,000km warranty aslong as it’s serviced by a Mitsubishi dealer. But how does it drive – the ASX ESautomatic at just under $30,000 drive-away powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinderdriving the front wheels through a CVT automatic. Step into the cabin and it feelsa little dated, very comfortable and practical with great seats but there’s no smartkey or wireless phone charger, but thankfully, it has dials for the climate controlair-con, radio tuning and volume as distinct to the frustrating and distractivemenus on a touch screen. The drive experience also shows its age – the engineno fire breather and under load, the noise vibration and harshness levels aresuch that it feels a little unrefined. No problems with economy however, 8.0L/100on 91 grade petrol while it exhibits good steering feel and a pleasant ride. A newMitsubishi ASX SUV is due in November, a rebranded Renault Capture, althoughMitsubishi has indicated it will not be as affordable as the current model. Nominate your veterinary hero here today! Veterinary Medicine was a 2nd career for Jill Clark, DVM, who had a successful 17-year career as an Assistant Director in film and television production that followed her early start in that profession as a child actor. Looking for a change, she was accepted into veterinary school and graduated from Oklahoma State University with her DVM ('96). Clark practiced medicine in a 6-doctor practice as an associate and then Medical Director of a satellite practice for 10 years before joining a group of 8 hospitals that grew to 80, National PetCare Centers, eventually taking on the Vice President of Operations role. Next up, she served 12 years with VCA in hospital operations, managing 22 General and Specialty Practices, and then as a vice president at the VCA home office in Los Angeles, overseeing VCA's doctor recruiting team, campus relationships, and intern/resident placement. In 2010, she was responsible for creating VCA's award-winning corporate university, WOOF-U, which trained and developed over 24,000 veterinary learners and is still VCA's primary training vehicle today. Clark founded IGNITE Veterinary Solutions in 2016 with the singular goal of elevating the role-specific knowledge and capabilities of veterinary teams to enhance their well-being and the well-being of the patients and clients they serve. Her passion for the underserved learners in our profession is obvious in IGNITE's focus on CSRs and their advancement. Clark and her co-author, Kristi Fisher, CVT, created the Veterinary Receptionist Certificate of Excellence (VRCE), which has made a material difference in the lives of more than 5,000 CSRs and growing. Her passion for elevating CSRs to a new level led her to create the non-profit North American Association of Veterinary Receptionists (NAAVR) in 2024 with Debbie Boone, CVPM, and Rhonda Bell, CVPM, PCM, CDMP. This association advocates for CSRs, normalizes and creates continuing CSR education tracks at state and national conferences, and provides the tools necessary for CSRs to thrive in their role. Her nearly 30-year career in veterinary medicine has been dedicated to constantly improving veterinary outcomes and operations. It has created many opportunities for the professional growth of the incredible people who make up our profession. Clark's other passions are showing American Quarter Horses and spending time with the love of her life and fellow veterinarian Bob Murtaugh, DVM, MS, and their 7 dogs, 9 horses, 4 cats, 4 goats, 4 mini-Belted Galloway cows, and 4 chickens on their ranch outside of Austin, Texas.

¡lo has adivinado!

It might be hard to believe, but the GMC Terrain is entering its 15th model year. Kicking off in 2010, the Terrain filled the void left by the departing Envoy. Now, fifteen years since its launch, the third-generation Terrain has joined GMC showrooms. Like its predecessor, the Terrain sticks with a small, turbocharged four-cylinder that displaces 1.5 liters. This four-cylinder mill carries the same basic specs as the outgoing engine: 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of torque, in all-wheel-drive trim. The front-wheel-drive models are mated to a CVT, and the team at GMC dropped peak torque to 184 lb-ft. The team at GMC also shaved away some of the possibly confusing entry-level trims, and now start the Terrain at the Elevation level. On this episode of Quick Spin, Autoweek executive editor Tom Murphy hops behind the wheel of the 2025 GMC Terrain and puts it through its paces. Murphy takes you on a tour of this new, third-generation Terrain and highlights some of his new favorite features. Later, Murphy takes you on a live drive review. Adding to these segments, Murphy chats with host Wesley Wren about the GMC Terrain, the health of the midsize crossover space, and more. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the 2025 GMC Terrain special.

Just as 7-Eleven offers too much good stuff, that's what we have in this week's episode of America on the Road. We've been driving a lot of interesting vehicles lately, and so today we thought we'd bring you not two road tests but four — 2025 Toyota Tundra, 2025 Lincoln Nautilus, 2025 Mazda CX-50, 2025 Hyundai Elantra N Line. It's a fascinating quartet of vehicles each with something special to bring to the table. Our Toyota Tundra test vehicle was a 4x4 SRS CrewMax 5.5 that blends rugged capability with modern features, offering a spacious cabin for five and a 5.5-foot composite bed equipped with a power outlet, LED lighting, and an integrated deck rail system. Powered by a 389-horsepower 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, it features part-time four-wheel drive and off-road-ready suspension. This model is equipped with the optional TRD Rally Package, adding 18-inch TRD alloy wheels, Bilstein shocks, skid plates, Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, and unique TRD interior and exterior styling. Additional accessories like a TRD performance air filter, bed mat, and wheel locks further boost its practicality and rugged appeal. The big question is whether the turbo V6 matches the ability of a V8. And is the pricey TRD Rally Package worth the added price? And how does the new hybrid version of the Mazda CX-50 stack up? It pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with three electric motors, an EV battery, and an electronically controlled CVT to deliver 219 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque, along with standard electric all-wheel drive. It features Mazda's Mi-Drive modes for power and trail driving, hill launch assist, and a 1,500-pound towing capacity. The exterior is sharp with LED headlights, a panoramic moonroof, roof rails, and a power rear liftgate. Inside, the CX-50 Hybrid seats five and offers leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power driver's seat with memory, and a wireless phone charger. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rain-sensing wipers, a wiper de-icer, keyless entry, and an electric parking brake round out the vehicle's feature list. Host Jack Nerad took this one to the desert and back, and we'll have his full report. Meanwhile, co-host Chris Teague took the wheel of the 2025 Lincoln Nautilus and the 2025 Hyundai Elantra N Line. He found the Nautilus offers a refined interior with a standard 48-inch panoramic display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Lincoln's new Digital Scent system for a personalized cabin experience. Two powertrain choices are available: a 250-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and a 310-horsepower hybrid, both paired with standard all-wheel drive. Additional features include available BlueCruise 1.2 hands-free driving technology, premium leather seating, and an optional Revel Ultima 3D audio system. The 2025 Elantra N Line features a sport-tuned chassis, a 201-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for sharper performance than its siblings. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, unique N Line exterior styling, a black mesh grille, and a sports interior with leather-trimmed seats and alloy pedals. Technology highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless charging, and Hyundai's Bluelink+ connected services. So how does it match up with its most direct competitor, the Honda Civic Si? Chris and Jack will have the answers for you. In the news this week, we have a crisis on our hands, and it's not tariffs; it's uninsured motorists. They are costing each of us who has car insurance billions of dollars each year. We'll tell you what we learned about it a little later in the show. Of course, there is a lot of buzz right now about tariffs in the auto industry. We'll tell you what is real and what is hype and give you thoughts on how you should proceed if you're planning to buy a car this year.

Driving the latest Honda Civic hatchback – a model that has evolved since the first generation arrived in 1972 – a small car that established a very strong reputation - the current series refreshed for 2025, the entry petrol engine retired, now in two hybrid variants plus the potent turbo Type R for performance buffs. The entry Civic Hybrid e:HEV- L $49,990 drive-away and the better-equipped Civic e:HEV-LX $55,900 drive-away which I drove. These latest Civics getting small mid- life styling updates - a new grille and bumper, new alloy wheels and a revised range of colours. Inside connected services have been updated with a new Google-based infotainment system. Overall, a very compelling small car package with engaging driving dynamics with clever internal packaging – roomy and well equipped in the e:HEV-LX with full leather interior, power front seats, full panoramic sunroof with power blind, and wireless phone charging. The 2.0-litre petrol engine joined by a two-motor hybrid system driving the front wheels via an electric CVT transmission. The hybrid powertrain prioritises electric running, the petrol engine kicking in only under load, and the transition is seamless. This Honda Civic feels premium in look and feel – simply one of the best new cars I’ve tested in the last 12 months. I’m David BerthonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A 2-0 litre petrol engine with two motor hybrid assistance driving through an electric CVT transmission. The hybrid power train most impressive, prioritising electric power and the move to petrol power under a heavier throttle is seamless quiet and refined. As I said earlier this is one of the best new cars I’ve driven in the last 12 months. Economy, in mainly city driving an impressive 5.0L/100km on 91 grade petrol. The drive experience engaging – on 18- inch alloy wheels with premium Michelin Pilot Sport tyres the driving dynamics are first class. Yes, it’s a little pricey at $55,900 drive-away but the Honda Civic e- HEV-L is loaded with equipment apart from a tyre repair kit and no spare wheel. Warranty five-years unlimited km warranty, battery warranty 8 years with service costs class leading – Just $597 over three years. The Nissan Kicks might have started its life in South America, where it debuted at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, but it made its way to the U.S. only a year later. This Kicks filled the void left by the polarizing Juke's U.S. departure from the small crossover space, which is only becoming more popular and competitive. The Kicks gave Nissan a new, competitively priced small crossover to help sway entry-level shoppers to its dealer. Well, the Kicks was popular enough to warrant a second generation, which gave the Kicks bolder styling and more power. Now stuffed under the hood of the Nissan Kicks is a 2.0-liter that sends 141 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque through a CVT to the front wheels, or through the optional all-wheel-drive system. Talking about Toyota’s C-HR SUV today – C-HR standing for Coupe High Rider –a most unusual compact SUV now in its second generation, in three models – the1.8-litre front drive GXL and mid-spec Koba, and the two-litre turbo all-wheel-drivetop spec Sport and like all Toyota passenger vehicles, all three, now only withhybrid power. Visually, the CH-R has Toyota’s most adventurous styling, somemight even call it quirky, with a combination of sharp lines and a high waistline ithas real visual appeal, different and perhaps divisive. In this upgraded second-generation prices rose significantly – I drove the mid-spec Koba which rose bymore than $11,000 to $49,990 plus on-road costs. Expensive for a small SUVpairing a 1.8-litre petrol engine with a single electric motor driving through acontinuously variable transmission or CVT. The funky styling limits interiorspace and its not overly roomy, the second row tight as is boot space. Theinterior and dash appealing, the Koba gaining 19-inch alloy wheels, suede interiorhighlights, heated front seats, a head-up display, 12.3-inch digital instrumentcluster, wireless phone charging, and a powered tailgate. Driving Toyota’s compact hybrid CH-R SUV, CH-R standing for Coupe High Rider. I’m driving the mid-spec CH-R Koba combining a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a single electric motor for a combined power output of 103kW and 142 Nm in torque – a front wheel drive with a CVT transmission - rather expensive at $49,990 plus on-road costs. As I said earlier the styling is somewhat quirky, different and you either like it or hate it. Toyota’s move to hybrid power across all of its passenger vehicles has been enormously successful – their fifth generation series-parallel hybrid system means either the petrol engine or electric motor can provide drive to the front wheels with the onboard computer deciding what’s best in any given situation. There’s three selectable drive modes, Eco, Power and Sport, but even in the latter the performance is not what you would call rewarding and the CH-R Koba is far from a fire breather. Good economy though and I managed 4.6L/100km with mainly city driving and on 91 octane petrol. There’s much to like with the Toyota CH-R Koba hybrid SUV, it makes a statement but there’s some better compact hybrid SUVs in the market and the price will make many buyers think twice. For episode #163 of the Flatirons Syndicate podcast, Jon is in the shop with Mike Pettiford of Go 4 It Services, and Jeremy of Money Shift Rally. Jeremy just got back from Ridge Rally in California, so we start with his recap of the event. While he was there, he needed to rent a car, so he got an Automatic VB WRX. Yes, the one with the CVT (aka Subaru Performance Transmission). What if the Auto WRX was good? What if it was fun to drive? Jeremy put almost 600 miles on one, so we had to discuss his impressions. Caffeinators, we've often said that while we want to be an autonomous profession, we are going to need the help of veterinarians to get us there. Colleen Gallagher, CVT, is going to be one of those veterinarians. This is a unique episode in that Colleen is a CVT in Massachusetts, but she's also a second year veterinary student at Tufts University. So we talked a lot about veterinary technician issues and the landscape of our profession with a future veterinarian! It was a fascinating discussion to see the profession from a couple different angles and Colleen is very passionate about title protection, scope of practice, and many other facets of the veterinary technician profession that will undoubtedly be to our benefit as she moves on in her career. It was really refreshing to hear a future veterinarian have these thoughts and ideas-definitely give it a listen!   Show Links: AAHA Technician Utilization Guidelines: https://www.aaha.org/resources/2023-aaha-technician-utilization-guidelines/  AAHA "Stay, Please" Survey: https://www.aaha.org/resources/white-paper-factors-that-support-retentionand-drive-attrition-in-the-veterinary-profession/  NAVTA 2022 Demographic Survey: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11pmYzIouybfL55YsduRbaZ1TtMD1i2DB/view  NAVTA VNI 2022 Working Group Report: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o2g1-WckMsfpaigazgnz7YpKe1YP8k-y/view  The 3 Rs Collaborative (United States, formerly the North American 3 Rs Collaborative): https://3rc.org/  National Center for the 3 Rs (UK): https://nc3rs.org.uk/  ALAVTN, responsible for awarding VTS-LAM: https://www.alavtn.org/index.html AALAS, responsible for awarding ALAT/LAT/LATG designations: https://www.aalas.org/ ACLAM, specialty college for lab animal veterinarians: https://www.aclam.org/   Our Links: Check out our sponsor https://betterhelp.com/vettechcafe for 10% off your first month of therapy Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/vettechcafe Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vettechcafepodcast Follow us on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/vet-tech-cafe Like and Subscribe on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMDTKdfOaqSW0Mv3Uoi33qg Our website: https://www.vettechcafe.com/ Vet Tech Cafe Merch: https://www.vettechcafe.com/merch If you would like to help us cover our podcast expenses, we'd appreciate any support you give through Patreon. Driving the relatively new Suzuki Swift Hybrid five-door hatchback – available inthree models, I drove the top-line GLX. The latest Suzuki Swift now in its fourthgeneration comes only in hybrid form – combining a 1.2-litre three-cylinderengine with what's described as a mild hybrid system – a 2.3kW integrated startergenerator and a 12-volt lithium-ion battery. The GLX grade at $29,490 drive-awaysharply priced and highly equipped, with CVT transmission and manual shiftpaddles, larger 16-inch alloy wheels, climate control air, and wireless phonecharging. The latest Swift looks little different to its predecessor. Despite thehybrid tag there is no EV-only motoring, this is predominately a petrol car withminimal electric motor torque – as such the drive feels little different to a purepetrol model - the three-cylinder engine has a distinct hum to it while with an all-up weight of just 957kg the Swift GLX automatic is a particularly nimble small cararound town. I managed 5.3L/100km and whilst that's impressive it does need adiet of dearer 95-octane petrol. A pleasant small hatchback in many ways, wellpriced, highly equipped with safety and driving technology but some elements ofthis latest Suzuki Swift hybrid left me thinking it was becoming a little dated. Welcome to today's episode, where we are diving into building and maintaining cohesive teams in a busy veterinary practice, especially one with multiple teams and shifts. In some practices, it's common for staff members to barely see each other, which can make it challenging to stay aligned with practice goals. How can we ensure everyone is on the same page, even when they work at different times? Our guest, Steph Ferkovich a CVT from a 24-hour clinic in Minnesota, joins us to share her experience. With a background in criminal justice and psychology, Steph has a unique approach to team dynamics. Her favorite part of the job is watching staff members thrive in their roles, which is why she's so passionate about fostering strong communication within her practice. Throughout this episode, Steph will discuss the challenges of managing a clinic where teams work different shifts. She explains how they overcame an “us vs. them” mentality and built a culture of open communication. From handling team conflicts to recognizing when training alone won't resolve every issue, Steph offers practical strategies for maintaining harmony in the workplace. We'll also hear about the evolving role of managers in veterinary practices. Steph shares how she's shifted from being seen as an authority figure to more of a coach for her team and how loosening control can sometimes be the key to success. If you're ready to learn how to build a more cohesive and communicative team, listen to this conversation with Steph Ferkovich.   Show Notes: [2:51] - Working at a 24-hour clinic is unique with an unusual schedule. The different shifts overlap, but otherwise, the teams don't see much of each other. [5:07] - One thing that needed to change was the “Us Vs. Them” vocabulary. [7:27] - Team attitudes can be negative, but it's important for them to realize that there are reasons, sometimes personal ones, that a team member works a certain shift. [9:42] - Working with people means that sometimes there will be animosity. Steph explains how to bring two people together for conversations even with resistance. [12:37] - A mediator is highly recommended in conversations that address animosity and conflict. [14:49] - Fortunately, Steph's team is pretty open with communication after the culture had been developed that it was important. [18:18] - In some cases, training will not change or fix communication between some team members. [20:10] - As a manager, Steph has learned that if something isn't working, there are other ways to help teams communicate. [21:53] - How do teams see their manager? Steph explains how this has changed over time and how most of the time it is as a coach. [24:38] - Loosening up control can be a challenge for some managers. [26:55] - Change is okay. What was working three years ago might not work anymore.   Thank you for listening. Remember you are not in this alone. Somehow, the Lexus LC is in the back half of a decade in production. Debuting in 2016 at the Detroit auto show, the LC500 helped give something similar to the legendary Lexus LFA to the masses – well, the masses that could afford a spendy-but-more-affordable grand tourer. Powered by either a 5.0-liter V8 or a 3.5-liter V6-based hybrid system, the Lexus LC 500 can offer a growing exhaust note or the more demure world of a fuel-sipping hybrid grand tourer. In LC 500h hybrid trim, the 3.5-liter works with a CVT and electric motors to make 354 hp of total system output and, according to Lexus, only suffers a 0.3-second penalty in a sprint to 60 mph. For 2024, the team at Lexus overhauled the LC 500's interior and replaced the old touchpad-based media system with a more modern touchscreen-based media system.  On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2024 Lexus LC 500h. Wren takes you on a guided tour of the '24 Lexus LC500h and highlights some of its new features. Later, Wren takes you along for a live drive review of this hybrid grand tourer. Adding to these segments, Wren chats with Autoweek's Patrick Carone about the Lexus LC 500, the changes, and where it sits in the greater world of luxury sports cars. Closing the show, the pair breaks down what makes the 2024 Lexus LC 500h special.
