100 FOR A HUNDRED!!!!! 100. CLASH OF THE TITANS (1981, dir. Desmond Davis) An incredible combination of imagination, mythology, and innovation, Clash of the Titans stands firm as one of the classics in the fantasy genre. Blending traditional hero's journey with a tale of famous Greek gods and goddesses, Davis weaves heart and humor into a story that borders on camp yet still feels earnest and authentic. As Perseus fights through numerous obstacles (including Medusa and the Kraken) to win the hand of Andromeda, he is hounded at every turn by the villainous Calibos, spurned by Andromeda. Great performances by Harry Hamil, Maggie Smith, and Ursula Andress, it's the perfect Saturday afternoon film.
This week Hollis and Terence discover the ramifications of angering the gods in, Clash of the Titans (1981). They discuss Perseus’ misuse of weapons, whiney Calibos and of course, the Kraken. Directed by, Desmond Davis.
Matt and Mark get around to cranking out another podcast with our review of Ray Harryhausen's classic stop-motion masterstroke Clash of the Titans. An end of an era, Clash attempts the high concept marketing of Star Wars but using the public domain creatures of Greek Myth. Despite the clunkiness of the composite special effects, Harryhausen brings real menace to the likes of Calibos and Medusa. With the venerable chops of Laurence Olivier and Burgess Meredith, Clash delivers its epic suite of Saturday matinee melodrama. Perhaps not timeless, it is a classic.Download: 262 Clash of the Titans (1981)
