Guests in Londinium, 92 AD: Gaius and Germanicus. The Corruption of Hollywood and the Sacred Canon. Regarding the Hollywood remake of the Odyssey, Germanicus characterizes the production as a "Hail Mary" by a "cesspool of corruption" known as Hollywood to remain relevant while "hemorrhaging talent." He labels the film an "abomination" and a "short shrift" to a sacred work of literature. Despite this, he sees a "beacon of hope" in the possibility that the film's failure will drive the younger generation to seek out the original texts. He emphasizes that the Iliad and Odyssey were not "fantasy" but the civilizational canon of Greco-Roman antiquity, acting as "sacred works" that dictated how to live and think. Gaius notes that these epics were originally meant to be "chanted" or "sung" and that they traditionally ended with "calm after the violence" rather than mere spectacle. They conclude that Hollywood has "cheapened our sensibility" and "raped our legacy" by failing to respect these foundational pillars of Western identity. (3)

Un fin de semana para reconectar en una cabaña remota, dicen. Lo que no se han contado el uno al otro es que ambos han planeado asesinarse durante esos días. Remake de una peli noruega, con Jason Segel y Samara Weaving haciendo lo que mejor se les da, del director de Popstar. Humor negro con las cosas saliendo bastante peor de lo previsto.

Retomamos el boom de los combos de los primeros años 60 a través de las grabaciones que dejaran los pianistas Chucho Valdés, Felo Bergaza y Samuel Téllez, dándole consistencia al jazz cubano y la llamada "descarga" cuando el panorama artístico musical cambiaba radicalmente en la Isla. Tres estilos y maneras de incidir en el ambiente musical de entonces a través de aquellas agrupaciones de formato reducido que habían comenzado a cobrar fuerza en clubes, cabarets y hoteles a finales de la década anterior. Retrocedemos exactamente una década para disfrutar del arte del cantante Nelo Sosa. Fue su personal manera de interpretar boleros, sones, montunos y guarachas, entre otros géneros de la música popular cubana, uno de los referentes que marcó la sonoridad de la bien llamada "era de los conjuntos soneros". Determinante su paso por el Conjunto Casino para luego, junto al guitarrista Senen Suárez, fundar el Conjunto Colonial en 1946. Con algunas de las grabaciones que registró con esta última agrupación y el conjunto "Gloria Matancera" lo recordamos. Los tesoros de la discografia independiente: entre las figuras que promovía el catálogo discografico Panart de los últimos años 50, encontramos a Gina Martin, una de las olvidadas voces femeninas que para esa época, involucrada en numerosos shows de cabarets y teatros, destacaba con un peculiar repertorio de guarachas, pregones y temas de raíz afro. En algunas sesiones de estudio en la calle San Miguel la acompañaron el conjunto del pianista Yoyo Casteleiro y los tambores del también pianista, arreglista y compositor Obdulio Morales. Unos minutos en compañía del trovador santiaguero William Vivanco. Afincado desde hace algún tiempo en España ha continuado vinculado al movimiento musical que numerosos artistas cubanos animan en Madrid. Muy gentilmente comparte con nosotros algunos tracks de su álbum "Trece con magia". Y con el son más puro es un gusto despedirnos. Remake sesentero del grandioso Septeto Típico y Habanero bajo la dirección de Oscar Sotolongo.

Proprio in occasione dell'uscita del trailer, la rubrica "5 cose che non potete non sapere" è dedicata alla vita e alla carriera dell'attore. He played in the big leagues, wore the Red Sox jersey, and had 14 surgeries trying to keep a dream alive. Then the career ended. And in the silence that followed, Ryan Kalish almost didn't make it through.  Ryan is not the kind of guest I typically have on this show. Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, an event that poses formidable logistical challenges. To put it in terms that will be familiar to many Americans, it is the equivalent of seven Super Bowls happening every day, in one of the world's biggest urban economies. That means huge demands on the city's transport and energy systems. But it also creates a rare opportunity to use the games as a catalyst to accelerate investment that could leave the city cleaner, more resilient and better connected long after the closing ceremony.In this episode, host Ed Crooks talks to Matt Petersen, president and CEO of the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator, or LACI. Matt explains how LACI has been using the run-up to the Games as a convening point for public and private sector action. The focus has been on transportation electrification, clean energy deployment and building infrastructure that can help Los Angeles cope with an influx of visitors while improving the quality of life for residents in the long term.Transport is key. Los Angeles is sometimes described as the car capital of the world, and transport will be the single biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the Games. Even so, LACI's modelling suggests that Los Angeles still needs more people using buses and rail, as well as better first-mile and last-mile options, from e-bike share to EV car-share schemes, if it wants to hit its climate targets.The conversation also explores the less visible systems that support electrification and emissions reductions for transport. Matt points to the electrification of freight, the build-out of charging depots, battery-backed fast charging, and experiments with flexible grid connections that can bring new infrastructure online faster. Those developments are central to whether Los Angeles can make room for more EVs and rising power demand without waiting years for grid upgrades.Too often, host cities for the Olympics promise transformative benefits that never fully materialise. Two great personal documentarians grace the podcast: Ross McElwee (“Sherman’s March”) and Michel Negroponte (“I’m Dangerous With Love”). Long friends and colleagues, Ross and Michel come on to primarily discuss the sensitive subject matter behind Ross’ latest film, “Remake” The film begins a theatrical engagement at Film Forum in NYC on 7/10/2026. They are currently screening a 40th anniversary 4K restored print of his seminal “Sherman’s March”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5Vph7D_TxY The death of his son causes McElwee, an autobiographical filmmaker, to look back on his life's work. He eventually turns to his archive of home movies — an afternoon trapping crayfish with his son Adrian, age 4; helping with homework, age 11; discussing career plans with his son, age 24. To what extent did his camera affect their relationship when Adrian was alive? To what extent does it define that relationship now that he is gone? Meanwhile, an effort to adapt McElwee's first feature, “Sherman's March”, into a work of fiction lurches along, giving the filmmaker another perspective from which to meditate on movie making and mortality. Ross McElwee is a documentary filmmaker from Charlotte, North Carolina currently living in Cambridge, Massachusetts. McElwee has made ten feature-length films. “Sherman's March” won Best Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival and was chosen for preservation by the U.S Library of Congress National Film Registry in 2000 as a “historically significant American motion picture.” Bright Leaves premiered at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight. McElwee’s In Paraguay premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2008, and he returned to Venice in 2011 to premiere Photographic Memory. McElwee has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the American Film Institute. He has twice been awarded fellowships in filmmaking by the National Endowment for the Arts and production grants from the LEF foundation. McElwee received the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival's Career Award in 2007 and the Pennebaker Award for his career in 2023. In 2024, the French Ministry of Culture awarded McElwee the rank of Chevalier des Artes et des Lettres. McElwee was Professor of the Practice of Filmmaking in the Department of Art, Film and Visual Studies at Harvard beginning in 2003 until his retirement in 2024. He is now a Research Professor, Emeritus in the AFVS Department. About Michel Negroponte Michel Negroponte is an award winning filmmaker who has been making feature length documentaries for more than 30 years. He was born and raised in New York City, and studied filmmaking with Richard Leacock and Ed Pincus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the 1970s. In addition to making his own films, he has freelanced on countless films for HBO, PBS, the BBC, and Channel Four. He has also worked with independent filmmakers like Ross McElwee, Doug Block, Lisa Crafts, D.A. Pennebaker, Chris Hegedus, Christine Choy, Dick Rogers, John Marshall and Al Maysles. His films include SPACE COAST (1979), RESIDENT EXILE (1981), SILVER VALLEY (1984), JUPITER’S WIFE (1994), NO ACCIDENT (1996), W.I.S.O.R. (2000), METHADONIA (2005) and I’M DANGEROUS WITH LOVE (2009). JUPITER’S WIFE, a portrait of a beguiling homeless woman named Maggie, won a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and the prize for Best Feature Documentary at the Vancouver and the Santa Barbara Film Festivals. The film was also awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Documentary. Originally shot on small format video, it premiered on HBO/Cinemax before getting a nationwide 35mm theatrical release. Edward Guthmann of the San Francisco Chronicle called it one of the ten best films of the year. John Koch of the Boston Globe wrote, “Negroponte has a painter’s eye and a novelist’s reach; and if there is anything more engaging and satisfying than “Jupiter’s Wife” on television or at the movies these days, by all means tell me about it.” Negroponte’s films have been broadcast in the United States on PBS, HBO, and the Sundance Channel as well as in England, France, Germany, Spain, and Japan. His work has been shown at the Sundance Film Festival, The New York Film Festival, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and in festivals in Berlin, Rotterdam, Vancouver, and Japan. Negroponte has also taught in the graduate and undergraduate film programs at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and Temple University. Recently, he helped create a new graduate program in documentary filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, which opened in September, 2009. He is part of the faculty there as well.

The reviews are in for Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2, and critics are praising its incredible visuals, responsive controls, expanded story, voice acting, challenge modes, and online multiplayer. Nintendo Life awarded it a 9 out of 10, while The Verge called it the Switch 2's most impressive visual showcase yet. However, not everyone is completely sold. The biggest criticism is that this is still another retelling of Star Fox 64, with an arcade-style campaign built around short playthroughs, alternate routes, high scores, and repetition.
