Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's October, so that means it's time for our “Shocktober” series, where we cover movies that go bump in the night! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and returning guest Tony Sedani discuss Tom Savini's overlooked 1990 remake of the George Romero classic, Night of the Living Dead!A quick pace! Mild undead nudity! Shocking neck violence! A door you can punch through! A female lead who transitions from damsel in distress to legitimate action hero! Fantastic makeup effects and memorable zombie designs, including one that's twisted up like a pretzel! A great "one awful night in a single location" movie! No real explanation for the horrors that ensue! Social commentary on division and class war! Good ol' boys toying with zombies! Feelings of hopelessness! An impossible Candyman reference! A cast that includes the legendary Tony Todd, Laura Dern's stunt double from Jurassic Park, Patricia Tallman, the writer of The Gingerdead Man, William Butler, an unrecognizable Bill Moseley, and Tom Towles as the worst dude ever! While it may live in the shadow of the 1968 original, it's one of the better remakes and some people's preferred version of Night of the Living Dead! In addition, Alex talks about his favorite movies from Fantastic Fest 2025, including the Iko Uwais-produced martial arts extravaganza Ikatan Darah, Johannes Roberts' monkey-gone-mad creature feature Primate, Justin Long's unique take on corrupt cops in Los Angeles, Night Patrol, Steve Kostanki's Deathstalker, V/H/S/Halloween, the shark thriller Beast of War, and Curry Barker's oddly funny cautionary horror tale, Obsession! Finally, Tony shares his spoiler-free thoughts on The Long Walk, One Battle After Another, Good Boy, and The Smashing Machine, while Alex does the same for the Shudder original Night of the Reaper, and the realization of a plumber's worst nightmare, Scared Shitless! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Death Don't Do Fiction podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! We do not talk about Jeremy Irons enough on this show. He is an actor's actor who we do not see in genre often. His involvement in the remake of a 1980s cult classic changes that and has us excited. We also revisit our conversation about how comedians have positively affected horror. Plus, bad pedophiles vs good ones.We like when PR companies go the extra mile and the marketing for Bone Lake has been inspired. From suggestively placing the R rating to some cool posters, the film's promotion has been eye-catching. The over the top opening adds to this with lots of nudity and a gruesome kill. When it turns things down, it is to an almost shocking degree that may cause people to turn out. Which is a shame, since Bone Lake becomes an excellent psychological thriller that does an excellent job of toying with audience expectations. It also boasts one of the strongest performances of the year.Since returning in 2021, the V/H/S series has put out some great releases. They have taken things to he past along with trying out new things like sci-fi horror. This year the franchise tackles something that John Carpenter was never able to do. V/H/S Halloween sees the found footage anthology turn its eye towards a particular holiday in October. There have been some fun segments, but this is the most fun V/H/S has been as an overall product in years. It perfectly captures the Halloween spirit and presents stories that range from scary to funny. And all of them are gross. This is one of the movies that will become a regular tradition. But there is a major caveat. V/H/S Halloween also has the darkest segment in the history of the franchise. It will be a polarizing watch that many people may skip. Others will think it is great extreme horror. One thing is for sure; the segment is one of the best seen in the V/H/S series, but it feels out of place in this year's edition.

For the first time in nearly 60 years, a Syrian leader speaks at the UN. It was a symbolic moment for a nation long-isolated from the international stage. President Ahmed al-Sharaa says he can rebuild Syria through private investment and a deal with Israel. But how much can he concede in the name of progress, without losing Syrian public support? We came here to record a podcast and chew bubblegum, and we're all out of bubblegum. That's why we're recording a podcast about one of the edgiest super soldiers of the 90s and 2000s, Duke Nukem. But the execs at DT!HQ don't want us to remaster an old DN game, they want us to pitch one for 2025. Preferably, one that will make people mad. Todd is getting introspective. Andrew is getting proactive. Matt is getting interactive. The title of this week's episode was selected by our Patrons in our Discord Community! We have another international guest joining us, as Anshie Shinohara joins me from Germany! After stumbling across her Aerith cosplays on Instagram, I'm happy to welcome her to the podcast. Anshie and I start off with the only topic we could start with, Final Fantasy 7. Anshie talks about how she first got into the video game, back in the original Playstation days. We talk about what kept her coming back to that franchise, her experiences beyond 7, and then returning to the game with Remake and Rebirth. We cover who her favorite characters are, her thoughts on the remake storyline, and what she hopes for how the story ends this time. From there, we go into a topic Aerith would be proud to talk about - Gardening. Anshie discusses how she first got into gardening and her history with it, some of her favorite plants, and her current gardening situation. We talk about a plant she'd love to have, and her advice for those who may be interested in gardening. We wrap up with Cosplay. Anshie has been cosplaying for over 20 years, and she talks about how she first got started with cosplay. This includes a great story about dying her hair pink for a character, some of the characters she's cosplayed over the years, and her love of representing Aerith from Final Fantasy 7. We talk about a few designs she'd love to do in the future, and some behind the scenes talk about some of the photographs on her page. You can find Anshie at: https://www.instagram.com/anshie_shinohara/ https://linktr.ee/Anshie https://anshie.de/

Much of the conversation surrounding Game Pass and its sustainability has been about whether or not it can turn a profit. The Dukes themselves have pondered on this very subject for dozens of episodes. At this point, Game Pass is here to stay. The conversation has evolved from how much money the service makes to whether or not it dramatically impacts how games are made. At first, PlayStation alumni Shawn Layden brought attention to this subject. While well respected and incredibly knowledgable, many believed that Shawn bled a bit too much blue for their taste and that his points may be biased. That's fair to say, but what happens when many of Xbox's own start to say the same? Much of our conversation is about what Pete Hines, the former SVP of Communication and Marketing at Bethesda, had to say on Xbox's premier service. However, it's really about the fallout from it. Shannon Loftis, a Xbox lifer who spent 20+ years at the company, sang a similar tune to that of Pete and Shawn. Even MachineGames currnet studio head had thoughts on how Game Pass players dip very quickly. Even recently, Larian's own Swen Vincke had his concerns about Game Pass. Raphael Colantonio, formerly of Arkane and now at WolfEye, shared a similar sentiment. While indie and even AA have found a pocket from which they very much benefit from Game Pass, AAA is speaking out. The question remains: Are players willing to listen in the face of such value? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. 0:00:00 - Intro0:17:57 - Health Is Wealth0:22:02 - Bethesda finally teases Starfield DLC0:30:16 - Wolfenstein lives on0:38:37 - Hollow Knight Silksong breaks records0:51:10 - Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth due out on Xbox in 20260:53:27 - Physical games live on for another generation?1:05:37 - Dead Island 3 on the way1:12:19 - Helldivers 3 basically confirmed1:16:05 - Resident Evil 5 Remake isn't happening1:22:44 - Old KOTOR Remake concept art leaks1:24:35 - Metal Gear Delta sells 1 million copies in 2 days1:25:22 - 2K is making a “college basketball experience” while EA bails1:34:37 - Batman Arkham Shadow is getting a sequel1:39:35 - IO Interactive finally talks about Mindseye launch1:44:20 - What We're Playing2:23:54 - Pete Hines opens up on Xbox & Bethesda3:12:04 - Xbox's Tokyo Game Show plans3:20:02 - Game Pass Pick Of The Week Learn more about your ad choices. With practically every “important” PlayStation 2 game being remastered, remade, and reimagined, it wasn't a surprise when Konami announced Metal Gear Solid Delta. The question wasn't “would it exist?”, but “should it exist?” This week, The Besties discuss why Metal Gear Solid 3 benefits from a high-definition, low-tweak update. And they debate just how loyal a remake should be to its source material. Get the full list of games (and other stuff) discussed at www.besties.fan. Want more episodes?
