In this inspiring story, Rik shares how insomnia brought him to his knees — and how he slowly rewired fear into freedom. From panic attacks to the loneliness of sleepless nights, he describes what it was like to feel trapped in the cycle of anxiety and exhaustion. But through patience, community, and a new understanding of the mind, Rik discovered something profound: freedom isn't perfect sleep. It's letting go of the fight. “The wild thing is dealing with insomnia… it's just kind of letting it be—that's what fixes it.”You'll hear:Why medical fixes (like CPAP, supplements, and strict rules) didn't solve the struggleThe role of community in easing loneliness and breaking the cycleHow Rik learned that sleep doesn't require calmness or perfection to happenWhat it looks like to shift from fighting insomnia to accepting itWhy recovery is messy, non-linear, and still full of hopeThe surprising ways progress shows upHow neuroplasticity helps rewire fear into freedomIf you're struggling, Rik's story is a powerful reminder that hope is real, recovery is possible, and you are not alone

Today we are talking with co-founder of Kirmada Rik Yapp. Rik and his partner Adam created Kirmada as an all in one solution for Virtual Assistants to manage their business and client work easily, without opening a million browser tabs. Kirmada combines all of the technology that VAs need - workspaces, time tracking and management, team task organization, file management and social media, in an all in one system created JUST for VAs. Tune in to learn about: Why this system was created What it will help you do Why it's an essential tool for VAs to run their business Why it's a no brainer to start using And a whole lot more! To get in touch with Rik at Kirmada, connect with him or book a demo here: Website: https://kirmada.com About Kirmada: Adam Engberg and Rik Yapp met for a virtual beer (the beer was real, the meeting was virtual) to discuss “Project Kirmada”. Rik, with a brain the size of a planet, challenged everything, and after a gruelling couple of pints it was decided we should see if we could do it. We brought in another brain, Max Paukovs, overseer of our crack coding team of Kristaps, Ritvars, Martins, Atis and Valdis. They worked on proof of concept code. The code worked. We moved on. Over the next two years, we raised investment, both institutional and private, launched and tested the beta version, got things wrong, made them right, got more things wrong, heard feedback (some harsh, some amazing) and developed Kirmada to become the app small businesses need to organise their client workloads, boost productivity, and increase billable revenue. Everyone who saw the concept during development “got it” and we were able to build an impressive cap table of investors which includes an Australian investment fund and the legendary ex-CFO of Google, Patrick Pichette. Now our team has grown to include Fran, Genevieve, Tim, Callum and Mills and we're pushing ahead with an exciting development roadmap to deliver our goal of the ultimate business and personal productivity tool. Enjoy!
Men vilken låt! Send us a textWhat does it take to transform a teenage fascination with Microsoft Paint into collaborations with global brands like Nike, Apple, and Mercedes-Benz? In this candid conversation, digital artist Rik Oostenbroek pulls back the curtain on his remarkable 19-year creative journey.Rik's story begins in a small Dutch town where his teacher parents emphasized education and sports over artistic pursuits. His creative awakening came during his rebellious teenage years when a friend introduced him to DeviantArt, sparking a self-taught design education that would eventually lead to designing flyers for local events in exchange for free drinks. By age 17, he had landed his first major client—Volkswagen—after his portfolio unexpectedly gained over 100,000 views in a single day.The conversation takes fascinating turns as Rik shares his evolution from freelancer to art director for Cirque du Soleil in Montreal, ultimately returning to independence when he discovered corporate environments stifled his creativity. His philosophy of "always remember why you started" has guided him through the volatile Web3 landscape, where he found both supportive collectors and new possibilities for digital art. Rik's refreshing honesty about the challenges of maintaining artistic integrity while building commercial success offers valuable insights for creators at any stage.Looking ahead, Rik reveals details about his six-month collaboration on a generative art project, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and artistic growth. Whether discussing his dream of living in Japan or LA, his experience getting scammed in the early crypto days, or his obsession with risotto, Rik's authentic passion for creativity shines throughout this conversation.Ready to be inspired? In this episode, we continue to drift along The Currents of Space, floating into chapters 7 through 12. This almost coincides with the second installment in Astounding Science Fiction for November 1952 (Chapter 7 was published in October). This is the middle section of Asimov's middle Galactic Empire Novel (in-universe chronologically, that is). The middle layer of a current is called the laminar flow. It flows somewhat faster than the currents near the water's surface or the riverbed. We'll leave it to you to decide if this part of the novel flows better or more quickly than the rest of the book.A lot is going on.
