Carl Joshua Ncube isn't just a comedian. He is an astute businessman who has carefully curated his brand over many years to deliver the life he wants to live. In this conversation, he tells us how he sees life as a long game of snakes and ladders, how he became who he is today, and why he and his wife are living on a bus in the resort town of Victoria Falls. If you've ever wondered what it might be like to live your truth, look to Carl and Nelsy, and you'll get the live experience.
Hey guys! This week, I have a long chat to Comedian Carl Joshua Ncube. The last time I spoke to him, he was exiled from Zimbabwe but with the new government, he’s now free to live there once more. In this episode, he shares with me how Zimbabwe has been after the change in government; talking about the former president Robert Mugabe and analysing his plans and decisions as a politician as well as his status as a cultural icon. He points out the similarities between politics and comedy, the importance of understanding your message and audience - even if you don’t agree with it. We discuss one great thing about being a comic living in such tumultuous times and how his priorities have changed over the years. He shares with me what he’s been up to recently, getting involved with communities in Zimbabwe and using his influence to help his countrymen. He breaks down how we can make true changes by starting small, making our own decisions and pushing against powers that try to oppress or suppress us. He already brings up the idea of owning your space as a comic, how Covid has opened our eyes to the flaws of our current systems and what it takes to improve and grow your individual comedy scenes. We discuss social media, engagement online and the traps comics have been falling into. He also comments on corporations like Netflix, platforms like Tik Tok and how they play a part in raising the next generation of comics. I managed to talk to Carl Joshua Ncube, a Zimbabwean comedian. We talked about about his names, the stereotypes of different countries. Carl talked about the difference in food culture between the different countries in Asia compare to Zimbabwe. He too talked about the reason why he went to have a talk in TED as a TED globalFellow. I am trying to not make this clickbait but it seems like this episode might get Carl to be arrested however he still asked me to upload it. The podcast that could get a Zimbabwean comedian arrested.
